A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 Chapter 13
"What's going on here? What's going on?"
Emerging from the gathered crowd, Argus Filch shoulders his way through. Then he saw Mrs. Norris dangling by her tail in the petrified state he freezes in horror.
"My cat! Mt cat! What's happened to Mrs. Norris," shrieked Filch.
Bold releases a yip and Filch's menacing and popping eyes fell on the pup, Bailey, and then settling onto Harry.
"You! You and those blasted dogs have murdered my cat! You've killed her! I'll kill you! I'll-," screeched Filch, deranged.
Arriving on the scene in a perfect timely manner, uncompromisingly, Dumbledore said "Argus, enough!"
A majority of the teaching staff stand behind the Headmaster. Dumbledore approaches Mrs. Norris, detaching her tail from the torch bracket.
"Come with me, Argus," he said to Filch. "You, too, Mr. Potter, Mr. Weasley, Miss Granger. Bailey, come!"
Bailey obediently trots at Dumbledore's heels with Bold beside her as he leads the way to Lockhart's office after the buffoon eagerly offered its use. McGonagall and Snape tag along for the investigation as the rest remain to disperse the crowd and send them on their way. Once inside the office Dumbledore carefully lays Mrs. Norris on a desk's polished surface and begins to closely examine her with Professor McGonagall for hints on what has caused this travesty.
Snape stands silently in observation while Lockhart seems to be taking this all in stride and Filch remains beside himself, sobbing in his hands in distress at Mrs. Norris's state.
Harry can't help but feel sympathy for the man. To be perfectly honest he doesn't like Filch, absolutely no one did in this school. And the unified detest for Mrs. Norris equals that, but if it had been Bailey there on the table instead, he'd probably be lost in the same position. Harry doesn't even want to imagine Bailey hurt in the same death-like condition. To take his mind as far away from that line of thinking as possible he's focusing on the feeling of Bailey lying across his feet and Ranger and Charmer in his lap. Bounder and Friendly are in Ron's and Whisper and Dreamer in Hermione's.
Bailey has a sterm paw on Bold to keep him from causing further trouble. She's already had to tug him back by his tail once.
Dumbledore was muttering strange words, running his wand repeatedly over Mrs. Norris yet no change occurs.
Straightening up, softly, Dumbledore said "She's not dead, Argus."
"Not dead," choked Filch, looking through his fingers at Mrs. Norris. "But why is she all stiff and frozen?"
Stroking his beard thoughtfully, Dumbledore said "She's been Petrified. But how, I cannot say…"
"Ask him," yelled Filch, glaring pointedly at Harry.
"No second year could have done this," concluded Dumbledore, firmly. "It would take dark magic of the most advanced-."
"I'm not talking about dark magic! I'm talking by what he had his blasted dogs do to her! Those mutts have been chasing my cat at every opportunity they can bloody get! It had to be one of them! You saw what he wrote on the wall! He knows I'm a Squib," said Filch, shamefaced.
"I never touched Mrs. Norris," said Harry, disputing the claim loudly. "I never would let Bailey or any of the puppies hurt her either. And I don't even know what a Squib is."
"Rubbish," snarled Filch, not believing him for a second. "He saw my Kwikspell letter!"
It's here that snape intercedes, mentioning that it's highly probably that the small group was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but does not have any inhibitions in bringing up the subject that all of them were absent during the Halloween Feast. Harry, Ron, and Hermione quickly jump into an explanation about the deathday party they'd been attending and how they could be easily allied by all the ghosts that were invited. But it cannot be refuted that they still had to hungry from nothing edible at the event especially when Ron's stomach grumbled loudly. Harry explains that they'd wanted to bring the puppies back down to Hagrid's and had been hoping to grab a bite along the way only they ran out of time. Snape doesn't let up, voicing an idea to exclude Harry from Quidditch until further notice. Something Professor McGonagall loudly objects to big time making it clear that there is no evidence that points to Harry as the one responsible at all.
Decidedly, Dumbledore said "Innocent until proven guilty, Severus."
Snape isn't the only one outraged by this outcome.
Fiercely, Filch said "My cat has been Petrified! I want to see some punishment on those dogs!"
Bold yips angrily at Filch.
Taking a furious step toward the little one, Filch scowled "I'll get you, you little-."
Bailey instinctively jumps to her feet, maternal instincts instantly taking over in a flash. She positions her whole body entirely over Bold baring her teeth at Filch in warning at the obvious threat aimed at her young.
Wrapping a single arm around the two puppies in his lap, grabbing her harness handle to restrain her, Harry said "Bailey, no!"
"See," said Filch, pointing at the poised Bailey in vindication.
Patiently, Dumbledore discerned "You were threatening her son, Argus. Bailey's reaction toward you right now is justified. But just so it's made clear to everyone, I found no teeth marks on Mrs. Norris, so her condition is not brought on by one of the dogs. None of them did this. Do take heart though that we will be able to cure her. Professor Sprout recently managed to procure some Mandrakes. As soon as they have reached their full size, I will have a potion made that will revive Mrs. Norris good and proper."
"I'll make it," said Lockhart, arrogantly. "I must have done it a hundred time. I could whip up a Mandrake Restorative Draught in my sleep."
Icily, Snape said "Excuse me. But I believe I am the Potion Master at this school."
"It is decided then. You three may go," said Dumbledore, nodding at Harry, Ron, and Hermione. He then stops them part way out. "Just tell us one thing. Why were the puppies with you in the first place?"
"With everyone else down in the Great Hall we thought this might be a good time to take them out without any of the litter causing mischief. We'll take them back down to Hagrid's before we go up," said Harry.
"Very well. But be quick about it," ordered Dumbledore.
The group make a break for it. On the way Harry makes an offhanded comment about whether he should've spoke about the voice, but the other two protest profusely against it. It would've made him sound crazy and guilty at the same time.
No other unexpected happenings are thrown in their path.
During their entrance into the pen Bailey keeps track of each one in a strict headcount. In the end she counts six puppies not seven. One of them is missing from the brood.
Dreamer.
Scanning the area for her, Bailey discovers her by a bush admiring a monarch butterfly flittering around the foliage in an absentminded state.
Bailey barks a sharp reprimand and her wayward daughter comes running. Bounder actually moves her along moves her along quicker. Running back outside the pen he circles Dreamer and nips her above the tail in order to get the youngest girl of the lot to pick up speed. The effort works and now all seven are safely secure.
Now safe from danger the pups gambol and roll around in their pen. Bailey is confident that after a little play session they'll tire themselves out. She'd prefer to stay and keep watch over them, but it's best if Harry, Ron, and Hermione return to Gryffindor Tower as soon as possible considering tonight's bizarre events.
The clock chimes midnight, signaling it's time for them to hastily depart.
So, casting one last fond look at her children, giving each of them a lick, Bailey accompanies the three up to bed.
Why does Bailey get the feeling that things are only going to continue digressing as the school year goes on?
Authors Note:
What would you like to see the puppies do during 2nd year whether together or individually? I'm open to suggestions on what you want to see them take part in. In spite of the danger 2nd year holds I intent for there to be some fun bits.
For those of you who are commenting about the remainder of the authors note I have below and seeing it in repeated chapters, saying it's stupid and useless let me just say that you're wrong. I have this up because I'd rather people that are new or old patrons just taking a look for the first time again in a while can be thoroughly warned. It makes me feel better with the knowledge that people are alerted and can keep an eye out for these creeps, be told about changes fanfiction has made, and have their attention brought to the natural disasters happening across the globe and start researching what to do in case they're in those situations. If you don't like looking at the authors note then don't read it, plain and simple. Don't become the person that you're being warned against.
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of days ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
