Chapter Two
"You're tired of being a probie, it's understandable Robert and I am so sorry I didn't give you a chance to explain yourself months ago, and yeah, I know we can't just forget it. but-" Andy stopped talking suddenly and raised a hand to her forehead and stumbled.
"Andy." Robert rushed to her side "Andy. Andrea, are you okay?"
"Rob-Robert." Andy tried to speak, gripping Robert's arm.
"What can I do, Andy? Tell me what I can do?" Robert guided Andy to a chair.
"Call Vic and Trav up here, get me to an aid car." Andy tried to get her breathing under control. "Amelia said to get to a hospital if I started to feel like this."
Robert nodded and called for Vic and Travis. "Andy, stay with me okay? We're going to get through this. I love you."
Robert watched helplessly as Vic and Travis loaded Andy into the Station 19 ambulance. When they got her loaded in, Robert hoped in seconds after. Once they started to make the drive to Grey-Sloan they hooked Andy up to the ECG machine to watch her stats. Robert looked at it and grew more concerned, knowing that this was bad and teared up. I cannot lose another wife. By the time they got to the hospital, Andy had started to flatline and Robert could've sworn his heart stopped too. The doctors and residents that met them at the emergency bay rushed her into a trauma room, setting up the paddles to shock Andy. It took them two shocks to bring her back. Robert breathed a sigh of relief when her heart rate went back to normal. Robert watched the doctors check over her, give her pain meds and then Amelia walked in.
"Okay, you can all clear out. I need to have a word with Sullivan." No one moved. "Alone people. Come on, get moving." Amelia watched the residents pretty much run out of the room and the doctors follow suit. She turned to Robert and saw the concern on his face. "She told me she was going to tell you about her condition." Amelia tried to read him. "Did she get a chance to before this happened?" she asked.
"She did. She also mentioned how she wants to do the surgery and then chemo." Robert told Amelia. "She said she was on the fence about it but she wanted me to know about the cancer." Robert paused. "She also told me about- about um."
"The miscarriage?" Amelia asked.
"Yeah." Robert rubbed a hand over her face. "She told me about everything."
Amelia nodded. "Robert, while she's out now I would like to do the surgery, but it's supposed to be Andy's decision."
"Then do it while I already feel like this." Amelia and Robert heard Andy say from the bed.
"Are you sure, Andy?" Robert asked. "You're already going through enough pain right now."
"Which is exactly why she should do the surgery now." Andy looked from Robert to Amelia. "Can you please do it now?"
Amelia looked at Andy and could tell that she was in pain and exhausted. Since she had taken over Andy's care she saw how much the woman was struggling. "Andy, I can't promise I'll be able to do it today but I'll look at the OR schedule and be right back." Amelia walked out of the room, leaving Andy with Robert.
"I still have your support, right?" Andy asked Robert.
"You do." Robert grabs Andy's hand. "I promise."
"I love you, Robert," Andy told him. "I never stopped." Andy's eyes get watery. "I'm so sorry for everything I've put you through. Just please be here when I wake up after."
"I plan to Andy. I love you too." Robert told her, running a hand over her cheek. Robert watched as she closed her eyes and he sighed. "Andy, any problems we had before this are trivial compared to this." Robert watched as Andy nodded, tears in her eyes.
Amelia walked in and told the couple that they'd be taking her down to the OR in an hour and then left the room as quickly as she came in.
"Robert, are Vic and Travis here?" Andy asked, playing with a loose thread on the hospital blanket. She watched Robert nod. "Anyone else?"
"Everyone else chose to stay at the station, figured since we knew what was going on that they could come and visit after shift but Travis and Vic saw you flatline and refused to leave."
"I flatlined?" Andy asked, surprised. "Is that why my chest is killing me?"
"Yeah, unfortunately." Robert looked down for a second before looking back up. "Andy, is there anything I can do for you right now?"
"Just be here. Just you being here is more than enough right now." Andy told him, grabbing his hand. "When I go under I want you to go home, get a couple hours of sleep. It'll be a long road ahead so you need all the rest you can get." Andy can her husband getting ready to fight her. "If you really don't think you can rest, can you at least grab my stuff from Maya and Carina's? If you want to? I just don't want you sitting around this hospital."
Robert looks at Andy, wanting to protest but knows that his wife would just continue to fight him until she won. "Fine. I'll grab a key from Maya."
"Thank you."
"Yeah, yeah. I'll go and pack up your stuff, bring it back to OURS and then I'll come back." Robert told her, playfully annoyed. "I want Vic and Travis to stay though." Robert can see Andy ready to protest so sticks a hand up. "No. Shush. If I'm leaving I want someone to stay here for you."
"Fine."
"You sound like me" Robert chuckled. "I'll leave when you go under." He watched Andy nod.
The couple sat in comfortable silence. Andy thinks about how much she hates this while Robert was stuck thinking "I can't lose another wife. I can't lose another wide." Robert was caught up in his thoughts so he didn't realize Amelia was in the room until Andy yanked on Robert's hand. "What? What's up?"
"Amelia's getting ready to take me to surgery," Andy told him, rolling her eyes when she realized her husband had zoned out.
"Oh." was all Robert could get out. "Dr. Shepherd, any estimate on how long the surgery will take?"
"No. There's no timer for a surgery like this." Amelia told him and turned to Andy. "You ready Andy?"
"No." Andy lets out a nervous chuckle. "I know it needs to be done though so let's just get it over with."
"I'm so sorry, Andy." Amelia hates this just as much as Andy. Amelia moves over to the bed and puts the railings up. "We have to go now." Amelia motioned for nurses to help take Andy down to the OR and Robert watched, trying to keep his emotions in check.
Amelia looks at him and rests a hand on his arm. "She's going to be okay Robert. I know what I'm doing and I have the highest success rate so just trust me. Okay?"
Robert can't bring himself to speak so he just nods and watches as Amelia leaves the room.
I hope this is an okay chapter :/
