God he was bored. Leon sighed. This was standard procedure of course. After having a run in with those things. After the Raccoon City event, and he had technically been infected by the plagaus, if only for a few hours. Still... quarantine was only suppose to last a month. While it was hard to tell, Leon was sure it had been at least 2 months now. Maybe longer.
People rarely came to his holding apartment anymore. It was rare to hear the elevator humming. The first few days had been crazy. Debriefings, medical scans, blood work, scientists talking, more debriefings. Then there had been less and less people coming to check on him. He had asked about Ashley, no one would tell him anything until he started to lose his temper. Finally the major had told him she was being check out the same as he was and if healthy would return to her parents and start forgetting about this nightmare. And him.
Groceries still came like clock work down a dumb waiter which was too small to climb. Leon had thought about it though. Mostly prepackaged microwave meals. His kitchen was lacking anything sharp. He had one fork, one spoon, one plate, one bowl and one mug.
He had figured he was someplace underground. And while this place had all the comforts of a studio apartment. It was still small. No TV, no radio, no gaming systems. He had been given three books. Classical novels written decades ago on subjects he had little interest in and a treadmill to burn off any excess energy he had and keep fit.
But there was only so much cardio he could do. Thankfully he had a good body weight strength training workout memorized.
From this place on the couch Leon ran his eyes over the white wall that surrounded him, making note again of where all the 'secret' cameras were that watched him day and night. Even the bathroom had cameras. He could have easily covered them but after the first few weeks he thought better of it. Best not to play his hand.
Still he couldn't shake the feeling something was terribly wrong.
A feeling that proved right three days later. His weekly food delivery was late. Leon had started rationing his food the moment the weekly delivery didn't come. He estimated he had about five days worth left. If a supply didn't come by then or if he didn't think of a way out by then. He was screwed. He had tried waving at the cameras, shouting for attention, even covering some of them up in an attempt to get someone to come down. Nothing worked.
Leon gritted his teeth. Damn it! If they were going to kill him, least they could do would be make it quick.
Then again, anyone who came in with a weapon would be more likely to die than Leon.
Two more days passed and Leon was running out of ideas. He had torn holes in the drywall only to be met with sheets of metal. They were serious about keeping him in. He could appreciate that, couldn't have a monster getting lose and infecting the city but now it made it more like a tomb. The door controls were his next thought. He had found them but the wires were sealed, no access from his side. He was leaning against the door when he heard the humming of the elevator.
Someone was finally coming down. Leon gritted his teeth and moved to the back of the door. Grabbing the floor lamp he waited. He was getting out of this room or going to die trying.
He heard the beep blip of a key card and the door pulled open. "Leon?" A voice called softly. "Are you in here?" A blond head bobbed into view.
"Ashley?" He had to be seeing things. What was the presidents daughter doing down here? And alone?
She jumped slightly at how close he was before shouting his name once more and hugging him tightly.
"Hey whoa. What's wrong?" he looked around. "Where are the scientists? Where's your protection detail?" He couldn't believe she would be allowed to go anywhere alone. Not after what happened.
"They didn't make it. Leon there's no time to explain. We have to go. Here." She shoved a gun into his hands and moved out into the hall.
He checked the clip and the barrel out of habit. It was a good gun. Not the best but not a bad weapon. Common gear for secret service. "Ashley wait."
"We've got to go before they find us." She was rushing back towards the elevator.
Leon easily caught up to her. "Before who find us?"
The elevator binged and Ashley slid to a halt, nearly falling. "I think if followed us from Spain."
The elevator opened and Leon raised his gun out of habit, taking a protective step in front of Ashley. The five shambling forms that stumbled out towards them were dressed in secret service clothing. Blooded and ripped, one was missing an arm. Leon narrowed his eyes. "Your detail?"
"Yeah, we were attacked on the way here. They told me to run, to find you, but I don't understand. Plagaus doesn't work this fast."
Leon aimed his gun as the undead continued to come towards them. "It's not plagaus." he said, shooting the closest one in the head. "It's the T- virus."
