AN: So yeah, I decided to add this story to the list of active stories to celebrate my new computer! It was the second place from that first My Hero Academia poll back when 'What Doesn't Kill' me won and was the only other one to have a strong lead. I'd honestly expected it to win then and it's been on my mind ever since so I'm starting it now. If you accuse me of being so eager to start this story just for the hoverboards…then I plead the fifth.

AN2: So yes, the plan for this is Melissa Shield being the main pairing (I do have a plan for her to actually be interacted with more) with Tokage becoming best friend.

Mind over Matter

Chapter 1

-Izuku-

Grinning widely, Izuku rocketed towards UA, the wind whipping through his hair as he rode his hoverboard. As he rode, his quirk was keyed in to a GPS app, allowing him to see a guided route to make sure he got to his recommendation exam on time, wanting to find the best route to avoid any traffic jams. "Holy fuck that thing's awesome!" glancing over his shoulder, Izuku saw a floating head trying to keep up with him, the body running behind frantically.

"I know, right?" Izuku grinned, slowing down to let them keep up, especially now that the UA gate was within eyeshot, "Built her myself."

"Sweeeeeeeet!" his fellow verdette grinned as her body caught up, the head reattaching itself "You here to take a support course test or something? If so, then I call dibs! I want a fucking hoverboard damnit!"

"Took the Support test last week, I'm here for the Hero Recommendation exams." Izuku grinned, coming to a stop and attaching the board to his back, the harness built into his jacket magnetizing the board there so it wouldn't fall off "Got an invite from the Principle himself."

"Wait…you're taking more than one test?" the other green haired applicant tilted her head curiously.

"Took and passed tests for both the business and support courses." Izuku gave her a smug grin, "This'll make it three, a perfect hat trick."

"SUCH PASSION!" an energetic giant shouted happily as he seemingly popped up out of nowhere.

"Uh…thanks?" Izuku blinked at the big guy, "Anyway, my name's Izuku Midoriya."

"Setsuna Tokage!" his new green haired friend gave a toothy grin.

"I AM INASA YOARASHI!" the big guy shouted happily.

"Indoor voice big guy." Tokage patted his arm, "We're right next to you, no need to shout."

"My apologies!" the still shouting, but not as loud, giant apologized, bowing so hard and fast he slammed his head into the ground causing a small crater.

"Oooooookay." Izuku shook his head "Anyway, I've already exempted out of a lot of the general education classes so the plan is for me to spend most of my morning classes doing the business course work while the afternoon I'm with the Hero courses and I have various periods I'm permitted to work in the support workshop."

"…Good fucking grief man, when are you planning to sleep?" Tokage gaped at the apparent workload both already done and yet to come.

"Sleep is for the weak, I have caffeine and the internet." Izuku gave a mock 'evil' laugh, a habit he'd taken up jokingly after meeting Nezu "But yeah, the UA principal is the one who recommended me and approved the schedule."

"The principal?" Tokage blinked before giving him an impressed grin, "Niiiiice. I got recommend by Death Arms when he came to my school looking for a student to put forward. What about you big guy?"

"Fourth Kind!" the massive Inasa happily took a flexing pose. Before the conversation could continue though, they were being ushered into the building to take their written test, the multitude of recommended students shifting about nervously at their seats.

Grinning eagerly, Izuku waited for his to get handed to him. For the business course the test had been about business laws, marketing deductions, and other questions designed to show the understanding of the basics of how to market someone to the public, alongside the regular course questions. The Support course was about understanding of engineering, support company laws, and applications for gear while still doing the regular subject fields. The Hero course one, once he got it, Izuku saw was full of questions about Hero laws, hero history, and theoretical scenarios while still asking questions about regular subjects.

Thanks to his quirk, Izuku flew through the test, the basic knowledge ones being something he could get the answers to in a flash, his quirk being permitted for the test as it was both a mutant one and part of him which UA encouraged. The theoretical scenario questions were a bit harder, but he was able to run mental simulations rapidly to get answers he was satisfied with. The stunned glares sent at his back after only seven minutes, he did have to actually spend time writing after all, fueled his inner asshole. As he went outside the testing room to wait for his fellow applicants to finish the written, Izuku could practically feel Nezu cackling from wherever the little rodent was hiding to watch the tests.

"Duuuuuude!" Tokage rushed over to him once she got out of her own written test "How'd you get through that so fast man?!"

"My quirk." He grinned at her smugly as he sat reclined in a chair in the lobby, using his hoverboard as a footrest while mentally browsing the internet.

"You really gonna do me like that?" Tokage pouted as she dropped down beside him with a huff, the test still having a good half hour for those who hadn't finished.

"Yep." Izuku nodded happily as the two waited, eventually getting led into a large amphitheater where the various members of the UA staff and respected Pro Heroes and Heroines who hadn't recommended anyone at the test waited to judge them.

"Wassup little listeners!" the ever-excitable Present Mic shouted as everyone took their seats "And welcome to the practical portion of the UA Hero Recommendation exam!" the man was very much hyped and energetic as Izuku could practically feel the energy in the room growing, "Now, while that written test you all just took may have been standard, what comes next will be anything but. You wild cards will be demonstrating your skills for the different Pro Heroes, Heroines, Sidekicks, and UA staff that are here today. It can be related to your quirk, base combat ability, intellect, or any other field of skill you have that would demonstrate your ability to be a worthy Hero. Anybody got any questions?"

"Yes, I have one." Izuku raised his hand as he stood up, a spotlight shining down as he looked at the gathered examiners "This question is directed at several of you. Midnight, Mirko, Ryukyu, Ms. Joke, Mt. Lady, Ragdoll, Mandalay, Pixie-Bob, Uwabami, Cow Lady, Bubble Girl, Sirius, and Burnin."

"Quite the lineup little listener, but ask away." Present Mic faltered for a moment but pushed on despite his confusion. Many of the other test takers were muttering, most thinking the 'cocky little shit' was going to try and make a pervy remark or pass at them, his fellow test takers still salty at him breezing through the written.

"I wanted to ask this now, so I didn't risk you all leaving and me missing the chance but were you all aware that there are taps on your phones?" Izuku asked as you could hear a pin drop in the auditorium.

"…Green bean say what now?" a flummoxed Present Mic, who was still holding the microphone, blinked dumbly.

"Kid, you'd best explain." Cow Girl took the Microphone and gave Izuku a serious look.

"My quirk is that my brain is, quite literally, a super-computer." Izuku shrugged "I can run calculations rapidly in my mind, access the internet with a thought, interface with machines, and I even produce my own Wi-Fi." That one was admittedly one of his favorite parts of what his quirk could do "It's been a habit to scan for stuff like taps and hacking ever since my mom's computer got hacked a couple years ago and I found that all of you have taps on your phone that send data back to the same spot."

"And do you know what that spot is?" Mirko growled, leaning into the Microphone in Cow Lady's hand as she cracked her knuckles ominously.

"If I'm allowed to use my quirk beyond the boundaries of this room I can find out." Izuku nodded warily, not wanting to further anger the upset roster of pro heroines but also knowing damn well he'd have to be careful to stay within the bounds of the law.

"I authorize you, now check." Mirko was serious as she nodded. The second he had approval, Izuku's mind was taking off like a rocket, lines of code flying across his field of vision as he worked to follow the taps to their source, even noting various other branching paths that other tapped phones had that weren't in the room.

"Got it." Izuku nodded, casting an image onto the large screen in the auditorium wall along with some text "That's the tapper face, name, and address, he apparently works at a cellphone store and has been putting taps into the phones of every pro heroine or sidekick he could as it's not just the phones of those here. There's also an image folder but I didn't look inside."

"Smart move Kid." Mirko had a dangerous smirk on her face.

"Thanks." Izuku nodded before doing another mental cast "I just sent a full list of all the taps I could identify to your phones, the other illegal activities I found on his computer, and I even put a reverse tracking tap on his phone so you can find him if he moves."

The heroines all opened up their phones, showing various expressions of shock, disgust, and outrage until Ryukyu let out a murderous aura "Nejire-Chan is on here." Izuku wasn't sure who that was but judging by the expression on the UA staff's face he'd guess she was a student intern.

"Well, that kid has my vote!" Mirko called out, "Come on ladies, we have some ass to kick!" as several of the female pros gave statements of agreement, most stating they'd watch recordings to give their opinions on the others before filing out along with Mirko, Tokage stood up beside him.

"I have a statement to make too!" Tokage pointed at him, "He is MY sidekick now! Find your own cause I call dibs! GREEN HAIR FOREVER!"

"Who you callin a sidekick?!"

AN: Also, yes, I changed the practical from being a foot race to this because having JUST a foot race is exceptionally dumb. (If it was more than just the foot race, I apologize but I'm unaware of anything besides that for those being tested here)
