Young Mirabel was walking in the town all alone, crying uncontrollably on a dark night. The houses have no lights on, no people were around walking by, and she can't go back home. It happened on her failed ceremony. She was supposed to get a gift and her own room until the door vanishes. Her abuela, Alma, told everyone to go home and after that... she kicked her nieta out of Casita and the rest of the family agreed.

Once she got past the town, the little toddler sat on a rock and couldn't stopped crying. Her dress was already soaked from her tears, her eyes are red, and her glasses become messy. She looked up at the night sky, seeing the stars twinkling and the moon was shining until she spoke in a sobbed voice.

"Why? Why didn't I get a gift? Why didn't I get a miracle? Am I not special or anything?" Mirabel sobbed, "I wish... I wish you could show me what I should do I wish you could show me a miracle."

Mirabel kept looking at the starts until she looked down and continued sobbing. She hoped that maybe her other family members will come find her and bring her back home. Maybe they will apologize and be good for them. But the toddler didn't hear their voices hollering and heard any footsteps coming close.

Suddenly, she felt something warm like a candle that is close to her and she saw something glowing around her. Mirabel looked up and saw a gold butterfly, fluttering in front of her. Mirabel wiped the tears from her eyes and looked at it. The butterfly flew around her a couple of times until it flew to a different direction, but it stopped.

"You... you want me to follow you?" Mirabel spoke as she hiccupped from her crying.

The butterfly went up and down as it was saying yes and continued flying away. Mirabel quickly got off the rock to where she sat at and starts following the butterfly. The toddler doesn't know where the butterfly was taking her in fact, she wasn't paying attention as she went through a small tunnel through the mountains.

As the daytime approached, Mirabel kept on going until she saw a town from the distance and the butterfly disappeared. The toddler looked at the buildings and houses. Curious to know what the town was called but also...

'Why would the butterfly lead me there?' she wondered and decided to go down the path that leads to the town.

Mirabel finally made it there as she walked by seeing house after house, building after building. So many wondering for her as to why the butterfly led her to the town. Perhaps, maybe a kind couple would take her or maybe a single person would. As Mirabel kept on going, she stopped as she saw something that she has never seen before.

It was big, shiny, and it was covered with metal. Mirabel just stood there in awe and don't remember those kinds of things from books. But once she looked at it, she heard something that sounded really close. Mirabel turned around and to her fright, a bunch of people in crowd was coming straight towards her.

Mirabel tried to move out of the way, but it was too late. The crowd has already approached. The toddler tried to make through, but she felt as it the people were pushing her. Mirabel doesn't know what was going on or what's going to happen until everything was dark and there was a sound something closed. The toddler somehow finally got free from the crowd but as she looked at her surroundings, there was metal everywhere including lights. Mirabel wasn't so sure where she is until...

"Hey!" a voice spoke, and a hand touched the toddler's shoulder.

Mirabel screamed in fright as she turned to see a man dressed like a military soldier.

"What are you doing here, kid? You're not supposed to be here."

"I'm sorry, señor. I-I've got pushed in by a bunch of people. I didn't mean to come in." Mirabel stuttered as she was scared.

The man looked at the child as she was scared until she grabbed out a walkie talkie.

"Julio, can you hear me?" he spoke through the device until he heard another voice.

"Yeah, I hear you Carlos. What's up?"

"Can you open up this latch. We have a child here and she needs to be out."

"I can't do that, Carlos." Julio's voice spoke through the walkie talkie, "The latch is sealed and locked. It won't open until... Hold on. Did you just say a child is in the ship."

"Yeah. A little girl about four or five years old. I'm pretty sure her family be worried about her."

"They don't want me."

Carlos stopped as he heard those words and turned to look at Mirabel.

"I'm sorry, what? What did you say?" he questioned.

"Mi familia... They don't want me." she replied.

The soldier looked stunned as he kneeled down to the toddler's level.

"What do you mean they don't want you?"

"My abuela kicked me out of the house because I'm not special. The rest agreed with her." Mirabel answered as she sobbed.

Carlos couldn't believe it. How could family throw a toddler out of the house? What does she mean that she's not special? Everyone's special in their own way. There so many questions in the soldier's mind until Julio's voice interrupted.

"Sorry, Carlos. I tried everything. The latch won't open until we reached to Pandora. Any ideas on the kid?" Julio spoke.

The soldier looked at her and sigh as he starts to speak through the walkie talkie.

"We'll take her with us. Pretty sure we have room for one more on this ship. Hope someone can look after her when we reach there."

Mirabel looked at the soldier as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

"Where are we going señor?" she wondered.

"To Pandora." he answered, "It's actually a different planet."

"You mean... we're going to space?"

"That's right." Carlos replied as he picked up the little girl in his arms. "But you won't get to see very much cause you'll be in cyrosleep."

"Cy-o-sleep?" Mirabel tried to pronounce it.

"Cyrosleep." Carlos corrected as he starts walking with her. "You know the story: La Bella Durmiente?"

Mirabel nodded.

"It's something like that but a little different."

As the soldier kept on walking and explain to Mirabel for her to understand easier, this was now the start of the young Madrigal's journey. Knowing what would happen next for her.
