It had been precisely ten months, six days, five hours, and thirty-one seconds since his fourth birthday, and Izuku still hadn't received his quirk. Everyone else at his school had gotten theirs, so why hadn't he? Where was his quirk?

Izuku stared at the clock for another second before turning and trying to move the book on the desk towards him with his mind.

Nothing happened.

"Izuku, honey, what are you doing?"

"Mom!" he squeaked. "Um…trying to get my quirk."

His mom's face fell. "Oh, Izuku, I'm so sorry," she said, wrapping him in a hug. "Don't overwork yourself. If you're worried, we can go see a quirk specialist after our vacation."

Izuku frowned. He'd been avoiding going to the specialist out of fear they would confirm something he would rather not hear. But he was getting closer and closer to turning five, and he knew the chances of being quirkless were high at that age.

"Let's just enjoy our vacation now, okay?" she said. "Mommy wants us to have fun and not think too much about quirks."

"Okay," he agreed reluctantly. He didn't want his mom to worry. She'd taken a week off work just to take him on a rare vacation.

"Thank you. Now, it's time for us to go to bed. We have a long day ahead of us, and we're going to need all the energy we can get."

It was now ten months, seven days, one hour, and three seconds since Izuku's fourth birthday, and he still didn't have a quirk. He was trying his best not to think about it, but it was hard not to when there were so many people with mutant quirks around him.

At least today, he had something to distract him from his quirklessness. His mom had brought them to Mei prefecture for a vacation, and they were currently touring around. Their main attraction today was a famous shrine, if his mom's words were to be believed.

It took them an hour of walking to get there. There were a ton of other people there already, as it was a weekend. Izuku had been to shrines multiple times before, but none of them were as big and pretty as this one. He couldn't help but gawk at the structures and the scenery. It was entirely different from the smaller ones he'd been to.

"Excited?" his mom asked with a small smile.

Izuku nodded.

"This is the Ise Jingu shrine," she explained. "It is one of the holiest sites and Amaterasu's main place of worship. Would you like to try praying?"

"Sure," he said. He'd prayed at shrines before, but nothing he asked for had ever come true, so he was more or less skeptical about the whole thing. He wondered if the size of the shrine mattered, however, this shrine, while big, didn't feel any holier than any others he'd been to before.

Oh well. He knew his mom liked these things, so he'd happily accompany her.

Izuku's mom helped him rinse his hands and mouth with the pure water before leading him to the enshrined deity. "Follow my lead, okay?"

He nodded, not feeling too enthusiastic.

His mom bowed twice, then clapped her hands twice. Izuku quickly scrambled to follow, his head bowing so low his hair touched the ground. Even if he didn't exactly believe in what he was doing, he still wished to show respect.

Now, Izuku knew it was time to pray, but he wasn't sure what to pray for. He'd already prayed for a quirk so many times before, yet nothing happened. He didn't want to be let down again.

My name is Izuku Midoriya, and my address is XXX, Shizuoka Prefecture.

He paused, feeling kind of silly before pushing on.

Um…I'm four, and I haven't gotten my quirk yet. I was hoping that um…you could help me get one soon. I don't really mind if it's weak or anything. I'll be grateful for anything.

He tried to push down the embarrassment and be more sincere, but it was hard to do while facing what was essentially white clothe.

Please? I promise I won't do anything bad with it. I'm going to be a hero and help everyone in the world! I just want a quirk like everyone else.

His mom was finishing up next to him, so he decided to wrap up too.

Thank you so much! I um…appreciate you hearing me out.

Izuku gave one last low bow and stepped away.

"Good job, Izuku!" his mom said. "Did you finish your prayer?"

"Yeah," he said. "Does praying really work?"

"I'm not sure, Izuku," she admitted. "Maybe, maybe not. We'll just have to see, don't we?"

Izuku nodded slowly. It didn't hurt to pray, he supposed.

"Now, let's go explore the rest of the shrine, shall we?"

"Okay, mom!"

By the time they finished up the tour of the shrine and the surrounding areas, Izuku was beat. He leaped on the soft hotel bed the moment they got back, relieved to let his sore legs rest.

"I'm going to go grab us some food. Stay here and don't go anywhere, alright?"

"Yeah! See you later, mommy!"

As soon as she was gone, Izuku sat back up. He'd been waiting for this all day—quirk testing. He wasn't sure how fast the goddess acted, but how hard could it be to give him one quirk? There were lots of other people at the shrine though, so maybe he was at the end of the queue, but then again, it was the end of the day.

He took a deep breath, and tried to breathe fire.

Nothing came out.

Izuku sighed, and slumped. He shouldn't have gotten his hopes up.

"Izu, I'm back!"

Izuku stewed in his disappointment as they ate dinner together, as he showered, and as they lay down on the large bed to sleep.

What was he going to do? If praying at one of the most famous shrines wasn't enough, then Izuku was officially out of options. He'd have to go to that quirk specialist like his mom had wanted, and…

Wait. What was that? A large, blue rectangle had appeared in front of his eyes.

"Mommy," he said, poking his mom. "Wake up!"

"Izuku, I'm tired," she mumbled. "Can it wait until tomorrow?"

"Oh, okay, sorry," he said. That was weird. The blue rectangle was bright, like a large computer screen. Could she not see it?

"Thank you."

Izuku looked back to the rectangle. To his surprise, there were large words on it.

"You have unlocked the ability of an Oracle," he read. Huh? What did that mean?

The words shifted, and new ones appeared.

[1/1] Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, has entered.

HUH?

Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, uses her blessing on you.

Izuku gaped. Was someone using their quirk on him as a prank? How did they know that he prayed for a quirk, of all things?

"Is this a prank?" he whispered, looking around suspiciously.

No one responded. Izuku swallowed and looked at his hands. What if he really was given a quirk? It wouldn't hurt to try, right?

Right. He'd tried and failed so many times that he barely even felt disappointed now. Izuku pointed his hand to the lamp next to him, and tried to levitate it. For a second, nothing happened, then his entire hand was engulfed by an intensely bright light.

"EEK!

"Izuku? Did you turn on the lights?" his mom asked, rubbing her eyes.

You are unable to receive the blessing, as your divinity level is too low

The light disappeared, leaving the room in complete darkness once more.

"N-nothing, mom, I turned on the lamp accidentally," he said shakily. "Sorry."

"That's okay. Just be careful," she said, going back to sleep.

Izuku sighed and relief, turning his attention back to the blue rectangle. It was now displaying new text.

Amaterasu, the goddess of the sun, wants you to go to sleep, as using the blessing took up too much energy.

What? Izuku was feeling exhausted, but he had just gotten a quirk. There was so much he wanted to learn, like what it meant by his divinity level being too low and what the blessing was before. His heart was pounding, and he was so, so excited. There was no way he would be able to sleep.

Sleep. Now.

Izuku hesitated but reluctantly lay down on the bed. If it really was the goddess on the other end, he didn't want to make her angry on the first day after getting a quirk from her.

He closed his eyes, still thinking about his quirk. He'd never seen or heard of anyone with a quirk like this—one that had something sentient on the other end. The light that had come out of his hand was definitely real though, if his mom had seen it.

For the first time in a while, Izuku looked forward to the next day. There was so much he had to do. He had to start a new hero analysis notebook for himself, try to do the light thing again, and tell his mom and Kacchan. He couldn't wait. He wished he didn't have to sleep.

Izuku yawned, and the tiredness seeped in. Within seconds, he was completely knocked out.

It had been precisely ten months, seven days, ten hours, and thirty seconds since his fourth birthday, and Izuku had finally received his quirk.

A/N: This fic is vaguely inspired by a light novel called 'I'm a fake saintess but the gods are obsessed', just with Japanese gods and stuff. Also, I'm neither Japanese nor religious, so this might be a bit inaccurate lol.
