Hailey pulls up at the address that Voight gave her where Jay is staying. Even though there is another woman around, Hailey is willing to hear Jay out.
As she gets out of her car, the front door opens, and Hailey expects Jay to appear but it is not him that steps out. A woman with another man comes walking out.
"Is Jay here?" Hailey asks as they pass her. She's not sure if she's got the right place.
"Yeah, he's inside." The woman points back to the front door and then proceeds to get into a car with the man she is with.
Something in Hailey hopes that is the woman Voight was talking about and that she is on her way out with her husband or boyfriend. But then why would Jay be staying here?
Hailey takes a few seconds to calm herself as she is standing in front of the door before she knocks.
After knocking, Hailey's heartbeat picks up in nervousness. What if this is a mistake?
"Hailey?" Jay questions as he opens the door and finds her.
"I'm listening Jay, talk." Hailey gestures with her hands that she is there and her tone tells him that she wants to get to the point quickly, so don't jerk her around.
Jay sticks his head out the door and looks around. "So, where's Voight?"
"That's strike one." Hailey did not come here to talk about Voight.
Jay looks back to Hailey.
"Who is the woman?" Hailey just cannot let that one go.
"She is the sister of one of the guys that I'm serving with." Jay explains.
"I thought you were back for good. You even asked Voight for your old job back." Hailey picks up the present tense in Jay's answer.
"I was looking at different options." Jay starts to explain. "But I have changed my mind."
"About what?" Hailey is curious.
"I have extended my contract, so I'm on my way back. I'm leaving on Monday." Jay tells Hailey like it's totally acceptable.
Hailey nods like she understands and agrees, while on the inside a piece on her heart just broke off.
"Come with me." Jay says the simple three words.
"What?" Hailey is caught off guard.
"Come with me." Jay repeats himself like it is the best idea there ever was.
"Jay, I can't just leave." Hailey sighs. She feels this is going sideways.
"Why not?" Jay asks like there is no problem with it.
Hailey looks at Jay for a few seconds. "Because I'm not you. I can't just up and leave, leave everyone behind, leave my life here behind."
"Please Hailey." Jay pleads as he takes a step closer to Hailey.
There's a pause.
"Jay, I'll think about it." Hailey tone carries disappointment.
Jay and Hailey share on last look in silence before Hailey turns around and heads for her car.
As soon as Hailey turns the first corner tears starts rolling down her face.
She did not know what to expect but this was not what she had in mind.
Jay is going away again.
He will probably not talk to her while he is gone just like before.
He did ask her to go with him. But like she said, she can't just leave everything and everyone behind.
Hailey finds herself thinking about Voight. She knows that Voight will not be happy but to be honest, she won't be happy either.
A few blocks down, Hailey realizes that the choice that she is faced with is ultimately going to be between Jay and Voight.
It sounds crazy, but it is true.
She has grown far too close to Voight to just leave, and she knows that Voight will probably be heartbroken about it.
Arriving back home, Hailey stays sitting in the car for a while thinking about the situation.
A few minutes later, she enters the house and finds Voight on the couch watching tv. She is suddenly reminded how she started coming to his house in the beginning and slept on his couch.
Hailey sits down on the couch and the two of them sit in silence watching the tv.
After some time, Voight looks over to Hailey. "And?"
Hailey takes a deep breath.
"Jay is leaving." Hailey simply states as she keeps her eyes on the tv screen.
Voight keeps on watching her.
Hailey carefully says the next words. "He wants me to go with him."
There's a moment of silence.
"Uh." That's the only response that Voight gives and then he looks back to the tv.
After some silence Hailey speaks. "What do you think I should do?" Hailey really wants to know what is going through Voight's head right now.
"I can't tell you that." Voight answers without looking to her. The reality of what Hailey said is still sinking in.
"You want some coffee?" Hailey asks as she gets up.
"Sure." Voight answers.
Hailey is off to the kitchen where she puts the kettle on, puts out cups and then waits for the kettle.
"It boiled about two minutes ago."
Voight's voice sounding behind Hailey pulls her out of her thoughts and then she only realizes that she has been standing there staring at the kettle while far away in thought.
Hailey pours the water without responding. She then puts the kettle down but does not do anything else.
Stepping up to her, Voight takes her by the arm to turn her towards him. He then gives her a kiss on her forehead and pulls her into a hug.
"You do whatever makes you happy." Voight tells her as he is holding her in a tight hug.
He does not want to let her go.
He does not want her to leave.
But there is no point in keeping her here and having her be unhappy.
Hailey returns the hug as tears well up in her eyes.
There is a part of her that does not want to leave but there is a part of her that still loves Jay.
When Voight starts pulling out of the hug, Hailey only tightens her hold.
