A/N: Hey everyone! My apologies for the long hiatus but I've had a lot of things going on in my personal life the past year and this story in particular was pushed to the back of my mind. I'm planning to re-start this story with regular updates, so if you want to see more please review:)
Linda's brow furrowed as she heard an incessant knocking at her door, peering at the clock to see it was only a few minutes past eight, long before her first patient of the day. She was surprised to see it was Kami on the other side of her office door, a panicked expression on her face. She barged into the room, running a hand through her hair, only confusing Linda further. She was the last person Linda expected would be in need of a therapy session.
"Did you need—" Linda began, but Kami was quick to cut her off.
"I keep seeing you in my head. Like this recurring dream, I can't get away from. That's...that's not a good sign, right? I'm losing it, aren't I?" Kami ranted, flopping down on her couch.
"Maybe you should start from the beginning" Linda suggested, perching herself on the seat opposite.
"A few days ago, Lucifer apprehended this drug dealer, a right scumbag, and I don't know what he did...but he scared this guy to death. And then suddenly...I'm seeing this...this memory of you. You said you were scared of Lucifer, that it was all real and...wait, why are you twitching right now?" Kami blurted out, as Linda's left eye continued twitching.
"I'm not" Linda retorted, her other eye beginning to twitch too.
"Uh, you definitely are. Hold on...did we actually have that conversation?" Kami realised.
"This sounds like something you should really speak to Lucifer about" Linda murmured.
"No. No, I can't. I'm avoiding him" Kami admitted, leaning back against the couch, scrunching her eyes shut.
"He's not going to like that" Linda mumbled, hearing Kami snort.
"Hmm. The thirty-six missed calls from him tell me that" Kami sighed, running a hand down her face.
"You were scared of Lucifer. You said you were gonna' run...so, what changed? Why are you still here?" Kami frowned.
"I remembered that Lucifer is my friend" Linda answered.
"...His eyes were red" Kami announced, pushing herself upright, her eyes connecting with Linda's.
"What?" The blonde gaped, a bead of sweat rolling down her forehead.
"I swear to God, for just a second, Lucifer's eyes looked...I mean, that's impossible, right? C'mon, Doc. I really need you to tell me I'm losing my mind right now" Kami insisted.
Linda shifted uncomfortably in her seat underneath Kami's pleading gaze, not sure what she could say to the younger girl. If she told the truth, she doubted Kami would cope, but if she lied...wasn't she only prolonging the inevitable?
"Call Lucifer" Linda told her.
"Not really the answer I wanted to hear, Linda" Kami muttered.
"You're not losing your mind, but you don't understand the...complexities of what is happening around you. And I can't be the one to explain it to you. It's not my place" Linda explained, as the brunette pursed her lips.
"You're lucky this isn't a paid session" Kami huffed, as Linda gave her a look of sympathy.
"I have known Lucifer for over a year now, and I'd like to think I know him rather well...and I have never heard him speak about anyone the way he speaks about you, Kami" Linda went on.
"Somehow I think that makes all this worse," Kami said, dropping her head into her hands.
"...On the other hand, that might be just what I need to use to get the truth out of him" Kami realised, her eyes widening.
"That's not exactly what I was..." Linda trailed off, as Kami was racing out of the room before she could stop her.
"They're truly made for each other" Linda muttered, with a shake of her head.
Lucifer tapped his fingers against the steering wheel of his car, along with the beat of the song on the radio, trying his best to ignore the way Kami was staring at him. He dared to look toward her for a second, watching as her eyes narrowed, as if they were looking for something. He had been overjoyed when she had joined, him and Chloe on their newest case that morning, but his optimism was quickly diminishing. She had gone from avoiding him like the plague to watching him like a hawk.
"Do I have something on my face?" Lucifer exclaimed, rubbing at his cheeks self-consciously.
Kami simply shook her head, before pulling out her phone and turning on the torch, shining it on his face, almost blinding him. He gave her a look of disbelief, before exiting the car with a huff, checking his reflection in the car mirror.
"I can't believe I'm the one to say this, but you are acting very strangely today" Lucifer murmured, as Kami pulled herself out of his car.
"Ironic coming from a guy who called himself Lucifer Morningstar" Kami agreed, placing her phone back in her pocket.
"Have I done something wrong?" Lucifer asked, softening Kami's resolve somewhat.
"You told me a few weeks ago, you were going to tell Linda the truth. Well, now I want to know it too" Kami explained, watching Lucifer's eyes widen.
His mouth opened and closed a few times, desperately trying to think of something to say, when he spotted a familiar blonde behind Kami's shoulder. He was calling out for Chloe, racing toward her before Kami could ask him any more difficult questions.
"Hello to you too, Lucifer" Chloe laughed, as the man all but hid behind her as Kami approached.
"So, what's the case, Chlo?" Kami questioned.
"Some maniac with a God complex. He threatened Johnny Kane to—" Chloe began, when Kami interrupted her.
"Woah, woah. Johnny Kane, Johnny Kane?" Kami tried to clarify.
"That's exactly what I said" Lucifer grinned.
"You both can fangirl later, just listen. This killer told Johnny Kane that unless he cut up his face, a student at Malibu State would die. Twenty-four hours later, a teen's dead. We traced the e-mail to a grad student named Matthew Hoffing" Chloe explained, gesturing for them to make their way into the building.
"You really think this killer is gonna' be stupid enough to use his own email?" Kami scoffed, as Chloe shrugged.
"It's a possibility. He works part-time in the library here" Chloe replied, as they approached a long staircase.
"I find I must agree with Kami. His profile doesn't exactly scream manic killer, does it?" Lucifer mumbled.
"Oh, I don't know. People can be pretty deceiving in my experience" Kami huffed, crossing her arms as she stormed up the stairs.
"What did you do?" Chloe sighed, glaring at Lucifer.
"Nothing!" He insisted, holding his hands up in mock defence.
"Alright, well I'm gonna' ask at the reception desk where I can find this guy, you both just...stay out of trouble" Chloe ordered, as they entered the quiet space.
"...I want you to try your hypnosis thing on me" Kami told him, all of a sudden, causing Lucifer's mouth to go slack.
"But...but you asked me to never use it on you" Lucifer pointed out, as Kami shrugged.
"Well, now I've changed my mind. Prove to me what you can do" Kami pushed, as the muscle in Lucifer's jaw twitched.
He knew what she was doing, trying to find out whether there really was any truth to his 'powers'. What would she do when she found out the truth? Still, a darker part of him felt a desperate urge to find out what the brunette in front of him truly desired. To rid himself of any doubts, once and for all.
"No. Some things are better not known" Lucifer retorted, as she pouted.
"Luce, enough. Just tell me what's going on. You, Maze, Amenadiel...you've been walking around on eggshells around me for weeks now. You're lying to me" Kami exclaimed, as Lucifer shook his head, vehemently.
"I never lie" Lucifer murmured, as she threw her hands up in exasperation.
"But you're not telling me the truth either, are you?" Kami accused, as Lucifer's gaze dropped to the floor.
His heart sped up as Kami reached out for him, taking both his hands in her own, and looking up at him with pleading eyes. She squeezed his hands, before taking a step closer, leaving their faces just inches apart.
"Whatever it is...I can deal with it—" Kami's words were cut off as a sharp scream echoed through the library, causing the pair to spring apart.
They were racing toward the noise without a second thought, barging into one of the library's offices, and finding a man sitting behind a computer desk, as loud, excited sounds came from his laptop. It took half a second for Kami to realise what they had stumbled upon, her face turning grey as she saw where the boy's hand was. She made a gagging sound, only adding to Lucifer's obvious amusement.
"LAPD. Show us what's in your hands" Lucifer grinned, as the boy pulled his hand out of his pants.
"No! No, definitely do not do that. I'm already gonna' have nightmares as it is tonight" Kami grimaced.
"But he might have a gun, Kami" Lucifer teased, making her snort.
"Looked like a pretty small gun to me" Kami scoffed, earning a laugh from her companion.
"Hey!" The teenager complained.
"We need to speak to you...after you've bleached your hands" Kami muttered.
Ten minutes later, after the student had washed his hands free of any bodily fluids, and Lucifer had squirted hand gel onto his palms for good measure, he was explaining to them that he had no idea about the emails. And Kami found she believed him, especially when she saw the latest footage from the deluded killer, who appeared to be over fifty, despite the mask he wore that hid his identity. He had threatened a Doctor Scott this time, instructing her to destroy her hand or an innocent sophomore would die from poisoning. It looked like the masked man was planning to become a serial killer.
Later that night, Chloe and Dan had tracked down the doctor, leaving Lucifer and Kami to find the student, who just so happened to be attending a sorority party. The pair began their ascent up the steps of the sorority house, when Kami stopped Lucifer in his tracks, reaching out to pull free a few of his shirt buttons, leaving the man speechless for once. Once she was satisfied enough of his chest was showing, she pulled back to admire her work.
"We need to look the part, right?" Kami pointed out.
Before Lucifer had a chance to reply, Kami was tugging the sweater she wore over her shoulders, leaving her in just a thin tank top and tight jeans. She pulled at her bra for a moment, emphasising her cleavage a tad more, before running a hand through her hair. Lucifer stood where he was on the porch, mouth hanging agape as his eyes roved over her form for a few more seconds.
"So, would you talk to me if you were a horny college student?" Kami questioned, as Lucifer clamped his lips together finally.
"I think we both know the answer to that" He mumbled, as a smirk broke out on her face.
"Let me take the lead, alright? I could still be a college student whereas you're looking a little..." Kami trailed off.
"What?" Lucifer pushed.
"Old?" She replied, in a teasing tone.
"Old?!" He gaped, as she burst into a fit of laughter.
"Hey, I'm sure you've still got a few years left in you before we have to send you to the nursing home" Kami continued, reaching down to grab his hand and drag him into the noisy party.
Whatever retort Lucifer was planning to give, it quickly died on his lips as soon as he felt her intertwining their fingers together. It felt strangely...normal. Right. Kami was quickly reaching out with her free hand to grab a blue cup of some sort of alcohol, passing it to Lucifer, who downed the contents in a matter of moments. Kami pursed her lips, nudging her way into the crowd and grabbing another cup from a tipsy student, thrusting it in Lucifer's face.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you were trying to get me drunk, Nurse Decker?" Lucifer exclaimed, as she gave him an innocent smile.
"And hope you spill all your secrets? Course' not" She shrugged.
"Well, in that case...maybe I can interest you in a dance? Or quickie upstairs?" Lucifer stated, as Kami shook her head, fondly.
"You never give up do you?" She laughed.
"Not where you're concerned" Lucifer replied.
"Alright, Romeo. You go that way, I'll go this way. Keep your eyes out for Ashley. And don't make out with anyone, yeah?" Kami told him, pulling her hand away from his.
"Jealousy is a good look on you" Lucifer called after her, as she disappeared into the crowd, a smile growing on her face.
It was almost impossible to force the drunk teens to focus on anything else than alcohol or sex, but eventually, she managed to get a group of boys to check out the photo on her phone of Ashley. She knew the girl's time was running out and hoped that she hadn't put the girl in danger by wasting time flirting with Lucifer.
"Have you seen this girl?" Kami asked, a blond boy.
"Yeah. Yeah, I have...in my dreams!" He cheered, high-fiving his friend, as Kami resisted the urge to punch him in the face.
"Wow, thanks for nothing" Kami muttered under her breath, looking around the room for anyone who had half a brain cell left.
Instead, she spotted Lucifer being led up the stairs by half a dozen pretty women, causing her jaw to clench. She wasn't sure what she was angrier at...the fact that he was putting a woman's life in danger, or that he was planning to have an orgy after everything that had happened with them. Storming up the stairs, Kami had to barge her way through the crowds and shoved open the door she had seen Lucifer and the girls crowd into.
"Damn it, Lucifer, there's a woman's life is on the line and here you are...having a slumber party?" Kami frowned when she saw the group sitting on beanbags on the floor, gossiping.
"Well, I was actually working, Kami" Lucifer told her.
"Oh, my God. Is this her?" One of the students gaped, placing a hand on her heart.
"Yes" Lucifer nodded, with a proud expression.
"She's so pretty!" The student exclaimed.
"Aw. How much did you pay her?" Kami whispered to Lucifer, making the girls giggle.
"Funny too" The student added, patting Lucifer on the shoulder.
"Well, I-I mean I was working and maybe, sort of, you know, asking about you..." Lucifer trailed off.
"About me?" Kami questioned, as they heard a hacking cough come from the bathroom.
"Oh, that's Ashley in there. Don't know what's taking her so long" Lucifer murmured, as Kami rushed over to push the door open, her face falling when she saw the teen with blood running down from her nose.
"It just won't stop" Ashley exclaimed, in a panicked tone, as Kami and Lucifer shared a worried look.
Luckily, through going through Ashley's schedule they were able to work out the girl had received a flu shot the day prior, just as their other victim had. It made Kami feel sick to think that the students were unwittingly letting some psycho poison them.
"The guy who gave the flu shots was Doctor Jason Carlisle. This is footage of a car accident he was in. He was a professor at Malibu until this video went viral" Dan announced, back at the police station.
Kami grimaced as he pressed play, and they watched the professor run out of a car that had been thrown upside down. He was then crouching down to pick up a briefcase, not bothering to help the young man in the driver's seat pleading for him to come back. A moment later, the car went up in flames, killing the driver instantly as Dan paused the video.
"He saved the dissertation he'd been working on for four years, while an innocent college student working as an Uber driver died. He was publicly humiliated, his wife left him, he lost his job, his entire world spiralled out of control. So, he took a job as a mobile health tech" Dan continued.
"I thought our killer was just raving mad, but he's trying to prove a bloody point. That everyone would make the same choice he did. Saving their livelihood over someone else's life" Lucifer shrugged, earning a glare from Chloe.
"Says the guy who's been putting his life on the line for strangers for the past year?" Kami argued.
"Well...that's different" Lucifer muttered, not meeting her gaze.
"Uh-huh" Kami said, with a teasing smile.
"He's recreating his own moral dilemma. He's picking everyone by design. The kids, the professionals..." Chloe trailed off.
"And he's not done. Unis searched the professor's house. They found files on over a dozen possible targets" Dan informed them, as the smile dropped from Kami's face.
"How're we gonna' bring them all in before this psychopath gets to them first?" Kami sighed.
"We could just get a big stick and poke the bear as hard as we can. This man clearly has an oversized ego, comparing himself to the likes of Johnny Kane and Dr. Scott. If we threaten that ego, trust me, he'll respond" Lucifer advised.
"How do you know?" Dan frowned, not liking his train of thought.
"Because I know his type, Daniel. Used to live with him, in fact. Called him Dad" Lucifer huffed, as Chloe marched over to her computer desk, pulling up her email.
"Chlo, what're you doing?" Kami asked, as the three crowded around her.
"Sending him a message" Chloe mumbled, beginning to type.
" You pathetic sad sack, "no wonder you didn't get tenure, your experiments are as ugly as you are'. Well said, Detective" Lucifer congratulated, as Kami couldn't help but agree.
"Seriously? Insulting the serial killer? That's an awesome idea" Dan said, sarcastically.
"Thank you" Lucifer grinned, making Dan roll his eyes.
"Also, his mask is a bit lame. Could be much creepier. Put that in" Lucifer exclaimed, gleefully.
"Neither does it hide his wrinkles" Kami added, making Lucifer snort, as Chloe typed their words in.
"Chloe. Don't send this. All right? It's not you. This is...This is, it's a rash move" Dan warned, as Kami leant down to press send before he could argue further.
"I do love a woman who can take control" Lucifer smirked, wiggling his eyebrows at her.
"Great. I mean, what could go wrong, right?" Dan scoffed, shaking his head in annoyance.
In only a few minutes, the Professor had replied to their goading with a link. He greeted them over a video call, revealing he had already kidnapped his next victims. Two college students, one with their leg in a vice, and the other already with poison running through their veins. He wanted them to choose who would live without interference from the police. Chloe wasn't going to let that happen. She soon realised that the Professor would likely go to Malibu's rival college to conduct his experiments, and when she heard the lab in the school was closed for renovations, she was sure she was in the right place. Chloe gripped her gun tightly in her hand as they entered the lab, finding the Professor on the other side of thick glass, the two students he was threatening bound to gurneys behind him.
"Well, well, isn't this a surprise" The Professor grinned, as Chloe rushed forward to try to force the glass door open that was separating them.
"It's locked, Detective. But with that said, I'm actually glad you made it" The Professor exclaimed, as Kami's gaze fell on the student with his leg in the vice, tear tracks clear on his cheeks.
"Why, because you'd like to surrender? It's a bit anticlimactic, but very well, we accept" Lucifer murmured, barely able to control his anger.
"No, because now you get to see firsthand what I'm trying to prove" The Professor told them, as Chloe raised her gun out and shot at the glass door.
"Acrylic glass, Detective. Please don't kill yourself with your own bullet. We wouldn't be able to conduct the final part of this experiment. Time for you to make a choice. In this vial, an antidote that will save Benji's life. In vial numero dos, poisonous gas that will kill you if you enter the room. Simple, really... You decide what's more important" The Professor stated, as he placed a gas mask over his face.
"You goddamn coward!" Kami cried, as the Professor threw the green vial on the floor, and gas began to emerge.
They watched as the Professor turned on his heel and began to sprint out of the room, leaving them with an impossible choice. Chloe looked down at her gun, her jaw clenched, before she seemed to make up her mind.
"You should get out of here. I don't want you to get hurt" Chloe told her sister, before raising the gun toward the glass door.
"Chlo, you can't!" Kami gaped, placing herself in front of the door.
"If I don't get in that room right now, that kid is gonna die" Chloe pointed out, as Kami opened her mouth to argue, but she didn't know what to say.
Could they really stand by and watch the student die?
"Word of advice, Detective. If you go into that room right now, you'll die" Lucifer insisted.
"What are we supposed to do?" Chloe retorted, a desperate look in her eyes.
"I can save him" Lucifer announced, causing Kami's brow to furrow.
"What?" She questioned, pushing forward to stand by her sister.
"But in order to do so, you need to go after the professor right now, before it's too late...I promise you I can get to that antidote without harming myself" Lucifer argued, as Kami began shaking her head.
"How?" Chloe pushed.
"I don't have time to explain. Please, Detective" Lucifer all but begged, as Chloe grit her teeth together, but was rushing off after the Professor a moment later.
"Lucifer, you can't do this. If you go in there, you'll die!" Kami cried, in a panic.
"Do you trust me?" Lucifer replied, his brown eyes boring into hers.
She knew he was keeping things from her. That nothing about his life made any sense. That everything logically told her not to trust him but...
"Yes. Of course, I do" Kami sighed, as he reached out to take her hands in his own, just as she had done earlier that day.
"Then go. I'll be alright. I promise" Lucifer told her, squeezing her hands.
Blinking away the tears that had begun to well in her eyes, Kami was running away from the lab without another word. She sprinted through the corridors of the college, hearing shouts coming from the front of the building. Kami soon spotted Chloe wrestling with the Professor on the grass, her eyes widening as the older man punched her sister in the side, causing him to get the upper hand. He was pushing himself on top of her, his hands going for her neck when Kami was suddenly lunging at him, throwing him away from Chloe. He was back on his feet a split second later, running further away from the college, as Chloe rolled onto her back, still clutching at her neck.
"Kami...Kami!" Chloe shouted, as she watched her sister pick up her discarded gun and chase after the killer.
He soon led them down an alleyway, as Kami ignored Chloe's cries, staying close on his heels. The Professor seemed surprised when they arrived at a dead end, a metal fence having been placed at the end of the alleyway. Kami was raising the gun toward him, calling out for him to turn around.
"Don't fucking move" Kami warned when she saw him pull out a knife from his jacket pocket.
"I knew you'd save yourself. It was the only choice you could make" The Professor stated, as she took a step forward.
"You're wrong. Lucifer will be walking into that room as we speak, he'll be giving that kid the antidoter" Kami goaded, as the man's forehead wrinkled.
"He...he can't. No one could survive that gas" The Professor muttered.
"Well, Lucifer Morningstar isn't just anyone" Kami smirked.
All of a sudden, the alleyway became darker, as a shadow was cast over the pair. The Professor looked up at the sky, finding the sun was still shining brightly, despite the darkness they found themselves engulfed in. He felt a shiver go down his spine as he noticed the girl's eyes had darkened, appearing almost black in the dim lighting.
"Put the knife down" Kami ordered, as the Professor's hand twitched, and found his palm opened instinctively to let go of his weapon, which fell to the ground with a thump.
"You still don't get it. I didn't want anyone to get hurt, but I needed people to understand I'm not a monster, I'm human. You call it biology, call it God, but choice is an illusion. I didn't have one when I pulled myself out of that burning car. And I certainly don't have one now" The Professor told her, as Kami tilted her head.
"You know what...neither do I" Kami exclaimed, as a gunshot rang out.
The Professor stumbled back a step, looking down at the blood pooling underneath his shirt, as pain ripped through him. He was dropping to his knees a moment later, looking up at Kami in shock as he realised she had shot him. The blood dripped down from the left side of his chest, right above where his heart was. Almost a perfect shot.
"You failed, Professor" Kami told him, as the man let out a stuttering breath before he fell forward, going completely still.
Kami blinked a few times, before she stumbled back a step, feeling as if she was coming out of a trance. She dropped the gun to the floor as she watched blood pool out from under the Professor's body. Her hands were still shaking as Chloe rounded the corner, her eyes going wide when she saw her sister looming over the body.
"Hey. Are you okay? Did he hurt you?" Chloe questioned, reaching out for Kami's shoulder.
"N-no. I...I just..." Kami stuttered, as her bottom lip wobbled.
"Don't. It's alright. It was you or him. You did the right thing" Chloe insisted, squeezing her shoulder, when Kami's head snapped up.
"Lucifer" She murmured before she was sprinting back in the direction they came from.
Her legs were moving as fast as they could to reach the labs, only coming to a halt when she found the two college students sitting on a bench outside, appearing pale but unharmed. Her heart hammered in her chest as she realised what that meant. Lucifer had saved them. But where was he?
"Lucifer?!" Kami shouted, looking up as the college doors opened, revealing the man in question.
"I'm right here. See, I told you everything would be alright" Lucifer stated, as he walked down the steps toward her.
Before he had even reached the last step, Kami was rushing toward him, wrapping her arms around his shoulders, and pulling him close. Lucifer was left taken aback as he felt her hands gripping his suit jacket, her chin resting on his shoulder. He slowly moved his arms to circle around her waist, as she trembled against him.
"I thought I lost you" Kami admitted, as a shy smile spread over Lucifer's lips.
"That's never going to happen" Lucifer promised, as she pulled away, a nervous expression on her face.
"Whatever secrets you're keeping, whatever you've done in the past, I...I don't care anymore. I just want to be with you. That's all I want" Kami told him, as Lucifer appeared almost giddy at her words.
"I'm...all you want?" He questioned, in a soft tone.
Lucifer's heart stopped beating as Kami suddenly leant forward and pressed her lips to his, his eyes fluttering shut in pure bliss. His heart started pounding again when he felt her reaching up to tangle her hand into his dark hair and pull him closer, as her lips parted. Lucifer kissed her back feverishly, one hand cupping her cheek, and the other wrapping around her waist to pull her flush against his body. He couldn't get her close enough, the taste of her lips causing something to stir within him. They were both panting as they eventually pulled away, Lucifer's lustful gaze causing Kami's cheeks to heat up.
"Does that answer your question?" She smiled, as Lucifer brushed his thumb against her cheek gently.
Lucifer simply nodded, before pressing his lips to hers once more, as if he couldn't get enough. Kami's stomach fluttered pleasantly, as they pressed their foreheads together, eyes fluttering shut once more, just enjoying the moment. A loud cough from behind them had Kami twisting around to find her sister standing a few feet away, a hand on her hip.
"You two done yet?" Chloe complained, despite the grin on her face.
Lucifer was grinning from ear to ear as he walked into the grotty bar Maze had asked to meet him in. He assumed Chloe had told her of the recent development in his relationship with Kami and seeing as the woman wanted to talk to him, rather than stab him, he could only see that as good news. His smile faltered slightly when he saw his mother sitting opposite Mazikeen, both women wearing the same grim expression.
"Right, let's just get this over with. Say your piece" Lucifer exclaimed.
"Why don't you have a seat, Lucifer. There's something that we need to tell you" The Goddess explained, as Lucifer had to fight the urge to roll his eyes.
"I'm guessing Maze told you as well? Well, I'm happy, Mother. Kami makes me happy. That's all that should matter to you, is it not?" Lucifer huffed, taking a seat next to Maze.
"Happy?" Maze frowned.
"I know this must be hard for you, Mazikeen but...Kami and I are together now. We're real. And I hope in time, you'll be able to accept that..." Lucifer trailed off, watching as Maze grit her teeth.
"Oh, don't look at me like that, Maze. Linda is the one you should be blaming. She's the one who told me to say that little speech" Lucifer shrugged.
"You son of a bitch" Maze muttered, her hands balled into fists.
"A little uncalled for" The Goddess huffed, as Maze glared at Lucifer.
"You knew how much I cared about Kami. Out of everyone, why her? Why?" Maze spat out.
"But...you two broke up. You said it yourself it's over. She's free to move on" Lucifer suggested, as oblivious as ever.
"Not with you!" Maze growled, pushing herself to her feet, before storming over toward the bar, ripping a photo off the wall.
"...I'm sorry, Lucifer. But you can't be with Kami. Not if you don't want to follow your father's plan" Maze explained, throwing the photograph onto the table.
His mouth went slack as he realised, he recognised the pair in the photo. It had been taken many years ago. A long time before the two should have met.
"What the hell is this? What's Amenadiel doing with Chloe's mum?" Lucifer questioned, snatching the photo off the table.
"I think you already know" The Goddess murmured, as Lucifer glared at her.
"Don't toy with me, Mother. What is this?" Lucifer insisted, as Maze averted her gaze to the ground, a guilty expression on her face.
"I've been trying to find the right way to tell you. But there is no right way, because the truth is...this is your Father's doing. Chloe is His doing...He put her in your path. Which means..." The Goddess trailed off, as Lucifer flinched as if he'd been struck.
"Kami is also his doing" He mumbled, breathing heavily as images flashed behind his eyes.
All the times he had conveniently bumped into the two women. The instant interest in had in their family. What made Chloe and Kami so special...it was all his Father's plan.
"So, none of it was...none of it was real" Lucifer realised, in a devastated tone.
Lucifer was shaking with anger, despair, sadness...more emotions he had ever experienced since arriving on Earth. He felt like such a fool. He should have known better than to think he could have something good in his life. He was momentarily surprised to find Chloe and Kami's apartment had been left unlocked, as he barged through the front door, but he didn't lose sight of the task at hand.
"Kami! Detective, I need to talk to you both!" Lucifer called out.
He heard shouts coming from upstairs and was quick to rush up the staircase, finding Chloe's bathroom door left ajar. Angry words threatened to spill from his lips as he pushed the door open, finding they all died on his tongue when he saw what was inside. Chloe was bleeding profusely, wads of tissues trying to soak up the blood, as Kami clutched onto her sister's shoulder, looking close to hyperventilating.
"It won't stop" Chloe sobbed, turning to find Lucifer standing in the doorway.
"What do we do?" Kami pleaded.
