Chapter 3: Changing Begining.
Five Years Later.
"Hey, get up." The guard yelled slamming his baton on the bars to draw the occupant's attention. Slowly moving the book that was burying his face in, Yusuke looked up at the guard growling face. "You're getting out, standing up."
"Really, after these long years?" Yusuke smiled and hopped to his feet, dressed in a white jumpsuit showing off the height that he gained living there and his body built a layer of muscle to add over the years. His hair looked wild and the yellow branding mark lay across his left eye, a marker of him being a troublemaker to the world, "Why so sudden?"
"Smart ass huh?" the guard growled louder, 'You turned 18 and so you can be free, but I'm sure you'll be sent back here soon enough." Yusuke simply smiled putting his hands out to get them cuffed. That ready, the guard opened the cell and walked down the hall, the yells of the other prisoners at him being freed and not them. Heading into the office, Yusuke was given the stuff that he had when he was brought in and his eyes were locked on the clothes that would not fit him anymore yet back then they were perfect and then there was his duel disk, his deck having been put in after they had collecting them. Slowly, Yusuke took hold of it and watched the guard, seeing if it was a trap as he lifted it up and looked it over, looking through his cards with his eyes looking for one he knew wasn't there, but he needed to see it with his own eyes. "Those are worthless for a criminal like you, might as well leave them here."
"Can't." Yusuke said collecting everything and looked at him, "I ow a friend that I will be back with them." BechdelYusuke ignored the scuff from the guard and turned to the door. It was a normal door, like back when he was in the orphanage and he took the handle. A nerve filled his mind when he felt it and slowly, he turned it and stepped outside.
Outside, the skies were grey which was normal for the Satelite and the air still slightly from the ruins of the city. But it felt right, he was free and stretched out his arms to the sky.
"I wonder if anyone else knows about me being let out." Yusuke said to himself, looking around the area of the large grey building to his back. He knew the way home, but wasn't sure he was welcomed back there.
"Well, I made sure to double-check." A familiar, yet different voice called out to him and Yusuke's head jerked to see a young lady he remembered all to well, yet she stood different. Her hair, once neat was grown out large with two long braided bangs framing her smiling face and her body had been filled out with a noticeable bust with cleavage in her red riding suit and wider hips as she boots and gloves covered her extremities. Her red helmet in hand finished her out fit and Yusuke's eyes ate up every second for a moment before returning the smile.
"Haru, it's been to long." Yusuke embraced her and Haru excepted quickly, squeezing tightly for a moment before pulling back.
"Yeah, five years if I'm counting." She said pulling away, taking in everything about him and how he had changed as she shook her head, "Damn, what did they feed you to get this big?"
"Not much, just gruel and muck." Yusuke smirked and gained a laugh from Haru, not much had changed with that except deeper, "So, where are we heading?" The puzzled expression told Yusuke the answer, but he wanted to hear it.
"Such a kidder, come on." She waved to follow, leading Yusuke toward the parking lot. His mind went from thinking about home to Kia, the last thing he saw before blacking out was Kia running off and he wanted answers. He was pulled back to reality when he saw what she was riding, a bright red runner with violet trim and a headpiece of a bird.
"Whoa, what's that thing?" Yusuke said looking at it, a smile spread across his face since he always wanted a duel runner and here was his friend having one.
"I call it Pheinox Rising, my duel runner." Haru said tossing a spare helmet to him and Yusuke took hold of it, slipping it on with smile hopping on the back with Haru starting it, pealing out of the parking lot like a bat out of hell. The wind hitting them as he looked around the satellite, seeing many posters covering the walls of all the buildings, cars, sidewalks, and even people handing them out every other corner it felt with how many there were.
"What's with all the posters and flier handles?" Yusuke asked looking at Haru, yet felt tension from how she was holding the handlebars and gulped with her speeding up faster.
"The day after you were sent to in, a new man showed up offering to help the Satelite." Haru said, a pause as she seem to be lost in thought with everything that had happen with him gone.
"Yeah, that happens every year." Yusuke replied back, "A politician wanting to look good for voters, taking care of the poor satellites while pocketing the money they claim they misplaced."
"No, this one was different." She finished with a jerk of her head and Yusuke turned, his eyes widening with his jaw hitting the seat. There, near the center of the satellite, towering over all other building was a onyx and silver building with golden trims, the area at the base looked better then the rest of the satellite, yet a large wall surrounded it.
"The hell is that?" Yusuke couldn't really think of other words at what he saw. Silence surrounded them with his eyes pealing from the tower to Haru, "Haru?"
"Mary will fill you in."And that was the last word that left Haru's lips, forcing them to ride in silence.
Yusuke looked in shock riding up to Lotus Ground Orphanage, a once strong building of hope when he was younger was in ruins, board shooting out from the of it, broken windows, and an unkept yard.
"What happened here?" Yusuke asked not taking his eyes off the building, the sound of laughter had once filled the air at this time of day, where gone.
"Well, Neo Domino City started to not send children to a place that raised troublemakers." Haru said, taking off her helmet, not looking at Yusuke hanging head and simply walk to the front door, "Come on, some else has been waiting a long time to see you again." Yusuke followed up through the door, expecting a lecture of all lectures on how stupid he was back when he was younger and how he ruined his future.
"YUSUKE!" A voice called out and his head shot up to see Mary standing there, her hair having grown grey streaks but the smile she sported was something he was not expecting. Pulled into a hug, he felt her warmth and calmed his mind, embracing her as he smiled.
"You half expect getting your head bitten off didn't you?" Haru asked smiling, leaning against the doorway and Yusuke nodded looking down tot he woman that helped raise him when he was younger, and was happy to see him again.
"It's been too long, come in." Mary took his hand, leading him through the door frame to the dinning room and sat him down, "I'll make us some coffee and we can catch up." Haru sat with him, smiling at the confused expression on Yusuke's face, and let out a light giggle followed.
"What's so funny?" He asked, looking at her as Haru simply stared at him.
"Did you really think Mary was going to be mad for so long at you for a mistake?" Her question hung over Yusuke and he hung his head, shame for believe that washing over him and he gulped at the pat on his back, "It's past, you need to move on."
"Move on, yeah." Yusuke had wanted to but he needed answers, and he knew she wouldn't have them. Mary stepping with three steaming coffee cups on a tray with creamer and sugar too pulled their attention from their talk to her and her sweet smile. Yusuke took his and smiled, listening to them over what they had been up too and how much it had changed over the last five years. Yusuke listened to it all, noting things that he remembered where gone and then there was the large tower that they had built in center of the city.
"It's called Heaven Tower, the Hope of the Satelite." Haru spat out, "More like a cult being led by a madman."
"Huh?" Yusuke asked looking to her and then Mary, hearing her release a sigh while holding her cup in her hands.
"The construction was started by a man name Arthur, he promised housing, food, and education to all that agreed to live in the tower." Mary explained, "Many thought it was too good to be true, yet others took up the offer, what else could they do and soon many more joined with Neo Domino City send any and all orphans there, cutting me off from helping them find homes."
"So, do you think their lying or hiding something?" Yusuke asked looking at Haru, who nodded with Mary shaking her head.
"No, I really don't think so." Mary sighed, "He has offered me a job many times to help, but this place is my home and I want to keep it in my hands for as long as I can." Yusuke and Haru saw she was close to tears, and as Haru embraced her Yusuke stood up.
"DO you have any tools?" Mary and Haru looked to him in shocked at his question.
"Oh no. I couldn't just make you work after getting back." Mary protested but Yusuke looked into her eyes.
"I need to help you, since you waited for me and fixing this place up is the least I can do." Yusuke stared at them with his series look as Haru nodded.
"I know where they are, come with me." Haru said as she kissed Mary on the cheek and Yusuke followed Haru, flashing mary a smile before dipping out and sending a smile on her face as she sipped her coffee.
"Okay, do you even know how to fix things?" Haru asked flipping the basement light on and walking with Yusuke in toe, memory of not being allowed in the basement in his youth and a moment of it being locked made him smile slightly.
"Yeah, I read books on it hoping I could help when I got out." Yusuke said turning to look up the stairs, and then turned to Haru his smile gone, "Haru, where's Kia?" The tool box she had found dropping to the ground echoed and her face when their eyes met said more then what most words could.
"K-Kia never came home that night." Haru said rubbing her arm, "At first we thought he was taken in with you, but me and mary were told you attack security when they found you, that's why you were locked up for five years." Seeing her eyes calmed Yusuke down, but something didn't sit right and he sat on the steps to collect himself looking at her.
"Someone knocked me out." Yusuke told her, "I don't know who it was, but they took Shatter Nova Dragon and left me there." Yusuke took his deck out from his pocket and put it in front of her, "I have every other card that night, i checked but not that one."
"And you think Kia took it?" Haru cocked her brow and Yusuke simply shook his head.
"I'm not sure, but someone wanted that card and set me up get it." Yusuke said looking at Haru, she gulped feeling his tension from his stare, "And I will find out who did and get my card back."
