Mind Over Matter
Chapter 6
-Izuku-
Whistling to himself, Izuku made his way over to the Support Workshop, idea sketchbook in hand. He'd almost gotten to the door when there was an explosion from the support lab, the door being sent flying off its hinges.
"Is everyone alright?!" Izuku burst into the lab concerned, Super Computer brain taking in every detail in an instant. Various Support course students taking shelter behind their desks, a charred and twisted lump of metal at the center of a scorch mark, and Power Loader holding up an unrepentant Pinkette that he remembered arguing with the man during move in day.
"I'm okay Midoriya." Shield coughed as she got up off the ground, giving an annoyed look at the Pinkette who was complaining at not being allowed to get right back to experimenting.
"Um…who's he?" one of the support students he didn't know blinked in confusion before noticing the primary pin on his uniform, "Hero Course 1A? Here for some costume upgrades?"
"Babies?!" the pinkette somehow got out of a confused Power Loader's grip as she rushed over, trying to get his measurements, "I can make you anything that you-"
"Gonna stop you there." Izuku held up his hand, "I'm actually multi tracking. I tested out of General studies, so I'm enrolled in the Hero, Management, and Support courses simultaneously. I just came here to get started on my work."
"He and I were the two Recommended students for this Support course." Shield added helpfully before pausing "Actually, he got a recommendation for all three tracks."
"And since he and Shield are recommended, they already have work stations." Power Loader grabbed the pink haired girl once again, "So, what are you working on today Midoriya? More flying tech?"
"Maybe later." Izuku shrugged "Want to finish the redesign before I make Tokage's hoverboard." His classmates' gazes snapped towards the board on his back at that title "For now I'm working on my personal Hero Gear."
"Battery?" Shield seemed amused.
"Battery." Izuku nodded with his best 'Nezu' grin.
"…Battery?" Power Loader seemed nervous.
"You'll see." Izuku sing songed cheerfully as he approached his workstation, "Shield, wanna join me? You're Shinso's main support technician right? His Quirk factor is so absurdly high he'd be able to use something like this pretty well."
"Gladly." The beautiful blonde joined him at his worktable, sliding hers next to his so they'd have more space as he went over his schematics, already patented through Nezu's help.
Ideas flowed between the two like water as they went back and forth, designing and tweaking the concept. He'd never worked with someone like her before, her ability to create rivaling his own.
"You made something that could handle All Might's full strength?" Izuku gaped in awe as she showed him the design for her 'Full Gauntlet', "That's amazing!"
"I'm sure you could have made something like this." Melissa brushed it off red faced, seemingly unused to praise like this.
"Melissa, I go for the most 'obvious' solution. I can think out of the box for how to utilize a quirk but making something like this?" he shook his head, "You've got a gift. This is Art." He never even noticed when he'd started using her first name. He never noticed Power Loader pulling out his phone to text Nezu as they worked together, lost in their own little world.
-Nezu-
Seeing the text from Power Loader Nezu smiled, "Ah, young love. So innocent, so oblivious." He chuckled before setting down his small phone, noting that his guests were approaching his office.
"Enter!" he called out cheerfully before they could even knock, All Might and Sir Nighteye striding into the building.
"Nezu. You asked to speak with the two of us?" Sir Nighteye didn't pause to beat around the bush as he took a seat, the man prizing efficiency.
"Yes, it's about All Might's successor and one of his friends." Nezu nodded, "Said friend is a personal pupil of mine. I bring him up because I believe you would also be a quality mentor for him Nighteye. And I believe there is a high likelihood of him discovering the nature of One for All on his own."
"How?" Nighteye narrowed his eyes in suspicion.
"Young Midoriya possesses the Mutant Quirk 'Super Computer'." All Might explained with one of his usual boisterous laughs, "His brain is, quite literally, a Super Computer. Capable of rapid calculations, accessing the internet, interfacing with technology, and he even produces his own WIFI."
"He made me a hoverbike." Nezu said smugly, enjoying All Might grumbling in petulant jealousy at not having one too.
"…A hoverbike?" the usually stiff Sir Nighteye was gaping slightly.
"For Nezu. He uses a hoverboard for himself." All Might added.
"And at the moment he and young Melissa Shield are working together on some new gear, some of which will work well with your Successor, All Might." Nezu smirked his mischief showing "They haven't even noticed they're using first names yet. Ah, you humans are so amusing when you're in love and oblivious." And, just as he hoped, he got a shocked blood spit take from All Might. If Recovery Girl hadn't thoroughly tested the man to make sure that wasn't drastically making things worse, he might have felt bad.
"So, why send him to me?" Nighteye coughed, straightening his glasses and offering All Might a handkerchief to clean up the blood on his face "I would assume a Hero who uses more support gear would be more applicable. Or just a quality support engineer."
"For his recommendation to the Hero Course he ended up exposing a criminal swine who was not only hacking the phones of various pro heroines, but some of my students to take inappropriate images." Nezu's mischievous smile was a furious snarl in an instant, his claws digging somewhat into his desk, "Including young Togata's best female friend Nejire."
"Ah, I'd heard about that." Nighteye's tone was cold, "I'm starting to see your angle. You wish for me to help train his deductive reasoning and how to properly utilizing his Quirk for research and detective cases?"
"Precisely." Nezu nodded, making himself calm down.
"Hang on, what's this about Midoriya and my niece?!" All Might coughed, having finally gotten his voice back, but was promptly ignored.
"You'll have to contend with the army of Heroines and several heroes seeking him as an intern admittedly." Nezu smirked as Nighteye blinked.
"He's already being scouted?" the foresight Hero blinked, "From the Heroines grateful for his assistance I assume?"
"In part." Nezu admitted, "But it's more the fact that they realized that with his brain being a super computer he could go through their office's paperwork at an absurd pace. They're not exactly wrong either. It only took him seven minutes at most per test for each of the tests he took, and he scored perfectly on each one."
The room was tense and silent for a single moment before Nighteye's gleamed "I must recruit him!"
"Will you two stop ignoring me!" All Might continued to protest just as he continued to be ignored.
-Shinso-
"So…" he trailed off as he walked beside Tokage, Midoriya and Melissa ahead of them, "Do you think they've even noticed that they're using first names yet?"
"Nope." Tokage snickered, "Gonna be honest, it's kind of nice that his brain isn't 'god tier' you know? That he's still human."
"I get ya." Shinso nodded with exaggerated seriousness, "It's like seeing All Might Struggle to Open a Pickle Jar."
"Wait seriously?" Tokage blinked in shock at the mental image.
"Yep." Shinso chuckled as he wiggled his phone "Got video evidence too. Although to be fair I think he started doing it to mess with Melissa when she was younger, and it became a habit or in joke between them."
"…Okay, that's adorable." Tokage admitted as they got closer to the Height's Alliance dorm.
"Yep. Anyway, about the name thing…I'm gonna tell them." Shinso smirked before raising an eyebrow as Tokage smacked his chest with the back of her hand.
"Don't you dare…cause I'm gonna!" the dinosaur obsessed verdette grinned before taking off, reaching the two tech dorks and throwing an arm around each of their shoulders. Given the rapidly reddening faces she did indeed point it out, and they were suddenly realizing how long they'd been doing it.
"Whelp, guess I'd best prepare my shovel talk." Shinso stretched as he gave his best scary smile "Now where to find a shovel though?"
AN: Alright everybody, I have plans for Izuku's 'end game' gear but I need to figure out the immediate stuff. The stuff he'll get to use in the Sports Festival since the rules state that Support Course students get three things that they've made each. Hoverboards are an obvious one, but we need two more. I'm planning it out so if anyone has any requests or suggestions then now's the time to make them.
