2 months later...

Rosco was back to his job as sheriff, and Pricilla an' Corey'd moved into a house near Hazzard square.

"I've got to go to work now, Corey. Here's your lunch, now get on to school." Pricilla kissed the top of his head as she headed out the door.

"Rosco said he'd drive me to school today!" Corey called to his mother.

"Okay, see you tonight!" She called back.

Corey grabbed his school bag and stood outside, waiting for Rosco.

Meanwhile, Rosco was driving to Corey's house from the Boar's nest.

"This is J.D Hogg callin' Rosco P. Coltrane, come back."

"This is sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane, come on."

"I need you to get your butt over to my office at the Boar's Nest as fast as you can." Boss ordered.

"That's a big 10-4 little buddy! I'm gone."

Rosco pulled up at Corey's house.

"Hey, Corey. You ready to see how a policeman does his job?" Rosco giggled.

"Yeah!" Corey clmibed into the car.

"So, you wanna be a deputy when you grow up, huh?" Rosco asked.

"Yes sir. But I have one question."

"What's that?"

"Why do you always bust the Dukes when they ain't done nothin' wrong?"

"That's police procedure! You wouldn't understand!" Rosco giggled proudly.

"It seems to me that if they ain't done nothin' wrong, that they shouldn't be charged fer doin' somethin' wrong."

"You see, that's how the world works, Corey. In order for me to get my 50% of 50% of 50%, I have to bust the Duke boys." Rosco explained, rather proud that he could impress the child with '50% of 50%, of 50%'.

"Do the Duke boys mind?"

"Well, they mind 'cause they don't get no 50% of-"

"50% of 50%, right. What exactly is that?"

"Well, it means that I get 50% of 50% of 50% of what Boss Hogg makes."

"Ain't that jus' 12.5%?"

"Yeah, that's what it boils down to." Rosco was upset that he was no longer impressing Corey.

"So you bust people, fer things they ain't done, so's you can get 12.5% of the money?"

"Yeah, professional, ain't it?"

"No! I think it's downright un-fair! I thought the law was s'posed to be honest?"

"Well, Corey, I-"

"I don't wanna hear your excuses! You can't cheat people, Rosco!"

"Well, it ain't exactly cheatin' see-"

"It is cheating! An' when I grow up, I'm gonna clean this town up! I'm gonna clean out Boss Hogg and get an honest system!"

"Now, Corey, you're just a little boy..."

"I won't be when I grow up, now will I?"

"I reckon not."

"Unless you change your ways, I'll have to kick you out of office!"

"Now wait just a purple pea-pickin' minute! You can't do that!"

Just then, they arrived at the school. "Bye." Corey got out and went into the school.

"That's jus'... oohh..." Rosco muttered as he drove off.

By the end of the school day, Corey'd calmed down. He was going to try and talk to Rosco again when he picked him up, but Enos came to get him instead.

"Hey, Corey. I know Rosco promised to come get ya today, but he had real important business with Mr. Hogg." Enos explained as he opened the door for Corey.

"Oh." Corey got in.

...

"Enos, can I ask ya somethin'?"

"Sure, Corey." Enos smiled.

"What do you think 'bout always bustin' people fer things they ain't even done?"

"I don't much cotton to arrestin' people fer no reason myself." Enos sighed.

"Hows come Rosco an' Boss always do that?"

"Well, I ain't never figured that out myself. But I did figure one thing: lots of the people around here are smart, real smart. Especially the Dukes. For the most part, they're able to stop Boss Hogg in his tracks." Enos explained.

"Why do you still go on as a deputy here if it's all corrupt?"

"I love Hazzard, and there are things I can do for this county as a deputy that help an' don't hurt." Enos explained.

"You think I could do that when I grow up?" Corey asked.

"Sure, you could." Enos smiled. "There's another thing you gotta remember though: Boss an' Rosco don't allow fer no one to get hurt to carry out their plans. Even though he didn't have anything to do with what happened to ya, he was there, and he protected you." Enos reminded him.

"Yeah, I reckon he did."

"When it comes down to it, Rosco's a pretty nice guy. He used to be real honest, too, until his pension got voted down in a bonds election."

"What's a pension?"

"Extra money that ya get from workin' at one place fer a long time." Enos didn't really know himself, but he tried his best to explain.

"I guess I understand now." Corey sighed.

"Hazzard's a real nice place, Corey. You're real lucky to grow up here. The law might not be perfect, but there'll be deputies like you to even it out." Enos patted his shoulder.

I've always wanted to do a bit of a deep dive on Enos. so there it was.

Enos dropped Corey at home and went back to the Boar's Nest, where Boss was arguing with Rosco.
