Another Life

Chapter 1

Deep in space many years ago, an asteroid and a comet collided, splitting the comet into two pieces. The smaller piece quickly headed to Earth and crashed into a small tree house, affecting five children with rainbow powers. The large piece also headed to Earth, but a slower, darker, and unseen comet was heading for Middleton.

It has been five years since graduation and the alien invasion. Ron was walking through the park, wondering what his life had to install for him now. Ron's prospects of a life with Kim were destroyed when he discovered she was gay. Now all he has is memories and a few secrets that Kim will never know about or even wonder about.

Kim never had the love for him that he had for her; it was all about her. At first, the love for a hero saved her life and the world through the many missions they did together. Then as they grew, her love for the missions turned into pride. Ron was then forgotten, and his popularity began to fall when they were at school. His antics became an embarrassment and shame as Kim fell out of love with him. His heart broke as the relationship ended only two months after graduation when he walked in on her while she was with another lover.

Ron would have understood if it was another man, but it was another woman, and that hurt. Ron had drunk himself stupid for a long time, trying to understand why he hadn't noticed Kim being gay before. Even though all the signs were there, he had just closed his mind to them.

When Ron ran out of his daily allowance, he headed home through the local park towards his unit on the other side of the park. What was left of his parents place after the invasion was deemed unlivable. Ron began walking over the road bridge to get to the park. He heard what sounded like a woman crying from the bridge's ledge. The bridge was a popular suicide spot, and attempts were made to stop the high death rate. But since the invasion, those that could not leave Middleton started to use the high bridge again.

Ron stopped to find a blonde woman sitting on the walkway's edge with her head in her hands. She was at the highest place on the bridge, almost 200 meters above the dry river bed. He called out to her as he slowly walked up beside her.

"Are you okay," and she never answered. "Ma'am, if you are going to do what I think you're going to do, please don't!" said Ron as he started to forget his troubles for a few minutes. The woman still said nothing, "Please miss, let's talk about it," She then lifted he head to see who was talking with her, and it was then that Ron recognized her, "Tara! Is that you? Are you okay? Please don't jump?" and he sat beside her. "It's me, Ron Stoppable!"

"I know who you are?" said She. "Just leave me alone; I can do what I want,"

"Why? What happened, Tara? Maybe I Can help?" asked Ron

"Why are you even doing here? You had your chance and didn't want anything to do with me? Now piss off!" yelled Tara

"What! When did I have a chance with you? I knew you once had a thing for me, but I never dated you?"

"A thing? How did you know I had a thing for you?" said Tara

"Kp told me?

"Did she! And when did she tell you?" asked Tara

"When you started to go out with Josh," said Ron

"Not before?" Ron shook his head in the No, "fucking bitch!" and she started crying even more.

"What?"

"I asked her a year before you went to Japan, after Camp Wannaweep, if she could ask you out for a date for me; she said you were too busy and didn't have the time for a girlfriend," said Tara

"She said that?" and Tara nodded, "Why would she say that? With all the crap I took from her, I could have been with you?"

"Go and ask her why?" said Tara.

"We are not friends anymore,"

"Did she finally tell you that she was gay?" asked Tara

"You knew?" said Ron.

"We all had an idea, but how did you find out?" asked Tara. She might forget about her troubles if she could get him talking. Ron sighed and looked down at the riverbed and tears started to run down his face again, and he sat beside her.

"I walked in on her one day with another woman. She admitted that I was only supposed to be the sidekick, and she couldn't go through a day without being embarrassed by me. Kp then told me that she used to go to Go-city to a gay bar so that no one in Middleton would know she was gay. That was when her girlfriend and Kp pushed me out of the until together and told me that I was nothing but a loser," said Ron

"Who was this other woman?" asked Tara

"You know her very well," said Ron, and Tara just looked at him a blank look. "It was Bonnie,"

"Bonnie! I knew she was gay! She was using the boys. She never did anything with them," said Tara.

"They weren't the so-called rivals as they always said they were. They had been lovers ever since they started high school," said Ron, Tara was just as surprised as when he first knew. "Didn't you know?"

"Oh yes, we did have an affair a few times! I was in love with you mostly," said Tara. Tara thought that now he had told her everything, it was her turn to spill the beans.

"Jason Morgan raped me and got me pregnant; when I told him that I was going to have a baby, he just laughed and left me out on the street," Tara cried again, and Ron put his arms around her and hugged her close,

"Couldn't your mum help you?" asked Ron

"She could have, but she moved out of Middleton after graduation with her new boyfriend, and I don't know where they are now. So I am stranded in old Middleton with no money and place to stay. I even went to my real father to ask for help, but they were gone as well," said Tara

"Your real father?"

"Mum told me during high school that she had an affair with Kim's dad and became pregnant with me. It was my mum's shame if anyone found out," said Tara

"You are Kim's half-sister?" asked Ron, and Tara nodded, "Did she ever know?"

"I think that was one of the reasons why she didn't ask you to be my girlfriend, but I am not sure," said Tara

"Well, I guess we both been shafted by the possibles, but you don't look pregnant?" asked Ron

"I lost the baby last week after I was mugged and robbed of my funds. I have only now been released from the hospital," said Tara

"I am so sorry, Tara. I have a spare room at my place that you can stay in if you want somewhere to stay," said Ron

"Are you sure this time?" asked Tara

"Yes, you shouldn't be on the street," said Ron, and Tara cried hard as Ron hugged her.

"Okay, Where is it?"

"On the other side of the park," said Ron, and Tara thought for a minute.

"Thank you very much. I will be happy to stay at your place," said Tara as Ron grabbed her suitcase with all her worldly processions and held his hand out. She looked and grabbed his hand, and he helped her to stand, and the two walked to his unit. They arrived at a large apartment block, and Ron helped her into the elevator and rode it to the top floor. Then Tara saw that the unit was on the whole top floor. They walked out of the elevator and straight into the lounge room.

"Here we are; there are four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and toilets on this floor," and Ron opened one of the doors, "This is the main bedroom," as he walked around the room, grabbing all the pictures of Kim that he had placed, "Sorry, this is the first time I had anyone else in here,"

"Wow, this is beautiful, Ron; how could you afford all this? Didn't that villain take all your money?" asked Tara.

"You mean Drakken?" and Tara nodded. "Many people failed to understand that you can't keep 99 million dollars just in your pocket; it's a lot of money. Have you seen how much only a million dollars is?" said Ron.

"No!" said Tara

"You would need to have a dump truck to carry it around. Anyway, I only ended up losing about 40 million and got that back from the insurance; then Bueno Nacho restaurant was giving me a further 20 million dollars in royalties into my bank account every month until the invasion," said Ron

"So you didn't lose it all?" asked Tara

"Nope, I didn't know who to trust at the beginning. After I found out about my parents burning up all my money for overseas holidays and leaving me home alone with no food in the house, I would have been broken by the end of the year. So when Drakken came along, I came up with a plan to let everyone think I was broke,"

"And that got rid of Bonnie as well," said Tara

"Yeah, she was the first and easiest, then all of those others started to drop off," said Ron

"What did your parents say?"

"They were disappointed in me! But they still had 10 million dollars for themselves. I had 60 of the original 99 left by that time! So I froze it, literary froze my card in a block of ice," said Ron

"That would be something you would do; you didn't tell anyone else?" said Tara, and Ron shook his head, "So what are you worth now?"

"I am not sure. I have a few restaurants and other investments; I even own Bueno Nacho," said Ron.

"You own Bueno Nacho?"

"Yep, do you remember that time with Drakken and his robots," said Ron, and Tara nodded, "Well, I used my skills and a USB to take over the company from Drakken; I then started to rebuild the company's reputation as it was before. Then the invasion came, and I had to start rebuilding the stores; I even opened new stores in many places where they never were before. The only place I couldn't rebuild is in Middleton,"

"So your filthy rich, and no one knows about it,"

"No one in Middleton doesn't even know that a billionaire lives here, not even Kim and Bonnie. Now get yourself settled; there are clothes in the cupboard; they were meant for Kim, but if you don't mind wearing them, you can have them,"

"No, I don't mind, thank you, Ronnie," and Tara walked into the room and put what she had on the bed; this room alone was nearly three times bigger than her old bedroom at home, "It's perfect,"

"Shower through there; I'll go and cook us something to eat," said Ron, and he left the bedroom and shut the door behind him after she had a shower, put on a full-length black dress, and returned to the kitchen and the best meal she had in a long time. Tara stayed up as long as she could until heading to bed; after changing into a nightie, Tara just sat on the bed and cried; how could she ever let Ronald go in the first place? She should have fought for him.

The next day would be very different; life as he knew it was starting to look up. Ron took out the block of ice with his card inside before going to bed; he was thinking about why he had been so stupid as not knowing how much Tara Liked him in high school. If only there were a way to go back and start all over again.

The following morning, Ron placed the card into his wallet and made Tara a huge breakfast. He had just finished making Breakfast by the time she walked into the kitchen wearing the same nighty she found last night. As she ate, "Ronnie? Why are all those clothes in the cupboard black?" asked Tara

"Well … I don't know why! After the invasion, I found them in an abandoned shop and thought Kim might like them, but she never saw them. We could go to the department store and buy you new clothes if you don't like the color. Money is no option," said Ron.

"No, I love black, but I would like to get some underwear. I lost most of mine when I was mugged, and these are a little tight," said Tara.

"Okay, but then I like to check our old high school in the old Middleton area," said Ron

"Why? I thought the government abandoned it?" asked Tara

"They did, but I have just bought all the land that old Middleton high school is built on. I thought if I can rebuild it, then Kp may come back to me," said Ron

"Oh, Ronnie?"

"I know; call me sentimental if you like. But now that I found you, life can be a whole lot different," said Ron

"I know it will be; I won't leave you this time. Now eat up, and we can get started," said Tara. After Breakfast, the two spend most of the day in Go City shopping. Tara even spent some time in the beauty parlor getting make-up to look beautiful for Ron. The items they bought for her had to be delivered to the unit by a small truck the next day. That day was very busy for the two, and Ron spoiled her rotten.

Ron and Tara drove through the condemned parts of Middleton before they visited Tara's old home. Tara did find some of her old clothes, which still fit her. She even found items left behind when she and her mum left after the invasion. It was one of many places left untouched by the aliens and the homeless criminals who were in the area. Bonnie's place was in the same condition as Tara, and they found just as much left behind as well.

The next place was Kim's, but they only found a few broken pottery pieces. The Aliens destroyed her house during the invasion; since then, the house has been used as firewood. Kim's family did remove all their personal things before they, too, left.

Then they stopped at their old high school and began walking through the halls and classes, remembering the good old days. Some of the school buildings were still standing; many were still badly damaged and looked too spooky to enter. After the invasion, most residents left to either Go-city or the state completely. Those that wouldn't leave move to Upperton or Lowerton. Old Middleton, as this area was called, became the home of drunks, stoners, and the homeless, and Ron knew he had to get Tara out of there before dark.

The two walked through the school, checking out the canteen, the auditorium, and their old lockers. "I wish we knew what we know now back then," said Tara

"So do I; life would be very different than it has become," said Ron.

"I would have fought for you than just giving up," said Tara.

"Only if I understood that you had liked me back then as well," said Ron

"But I gave you plenty of signs I fancy you," said Tara

"But back then, I didn't understand girls at all," finished Ron. As the two checked their old lockers. Tara finds one of her old cheerleading uniforms still intact.

"Wow! It still here!" said Tara as she put it up against her, "And it looks like it still may fit,"

"Take it with you; love to see you in it when it's washed and repaired," said Ron.

"Oh, you kinky boy, I would love that," said Tara

"Let's go home; it's getting dark, and it's not safe to stay here at night," said Ron.

"I know," said Tara. Just as they stepped out of the door, they heard the tornado warning sirens blasting across new and old Middleton and wondered what was happening. Tara then yelled! "Ronnie, look!" she said, pointing to a giant yellowy-red fireball approaching them. Grabbing Tara and throwing her over his shoulder, he turned blue and placed a barrier around them, it was no good to run as everything around them instantly turn into fire.
