Yes, I am jumping on the 'character X from some other franchise wrecks the Kuroinu thing'. This idea has been in my head for a while cause I thought that an Inuyasha character would be a good fit for this kind of thing, but I couldn't find a fic on it. So I decided to write one.
The boundaries of life and death had always been rather malleable for Toga.
The purpose of Tensaiga had always been to teach his elder son the value of compassion, not to give Toga the ability to resurrect the dead.
No, that was a power he had already held. Tensaiga had been made from his fang, after all, and how could his fang have a power that he did not already hold?
If he truly desired it, he could leave the beyond with relative ease - it would take him a century or so, but he was capable of it. But he had no desire to.
He could somewhat observe the living world through his fangs. Sesshomaru had finally learnt the value of caring for others, and had even exceeded Toga's expectations in his dedication for his ward. Inuyasha had grown into his power, and had even gathered a pack and mate of his own.
Both of his sons were no longer alone. They both had a pack they could truly protect and care for, and would protect and care for them in return for them in return.
This was Toga's greatest wish. It was why he had refused to forget his life and let himself be taken into the cycle of reincarnation for as long as he had.
Now, he was content. He could go onto his next life knowing that his sons were happy.
But as he surrendered into the haze of remaking, he felt a spark of foreign power.
Toga considered it for a moment, before reaching for it. One last curiosity for this life.
He brushed it with his yoki, and the spark became an inferno. Images flashed across his mind of a world that was not his own, of a dark castle being invaded by a group of men.
Of the lady of the castle and her servant being enslaved and defiled by their invaders, of the leader of the men declaring himself ruler of a land where women would be chattel for the monsters and men of his would-be kingdom.
He snarled at the injustice of it, and the power began to coalesce around his spirit, shaping into a spell he had only felt a few times in his existence.
A Summoning Spell. One that would reach into the depths of the beyond for a powerful spirit to do the caster's bidding in exchange for a price.
Toga heard the voice of a woman, the lady of the castle, giving her demand.
Destroy Vault and his ilk. Do not harm my people. In return, I offer myself.
In other circumstances, the spell would hold enough magic to summon a being of Toga's caliber, but he had the power to bring the dead to life. He was perfectly capable of making up for what this spell lacked.
But did he want to?
This foreign land was not his own. They were not his people. And he had no desire to own the caster of this spell.
But he could not and would not stand aside when he could end the travesty he had just borne witness to. And if he rejected the spell and returned to fading into the cycle of reincarnation, some other spirit more malevolent than he would accept the summoning.
He could not, in good conscience, allow that to happen.
Toga fed the spell with his own power, to give it the strength necessary to pull him from beyond, and allowed the summoning to overcome his spirit.
Olga smiled, despite the condition her body was in, when she felt her spell take hold.
She had felt the sheer power of the being through her summonings. Yes, this demon would more than suffice.
Her breath caught, for a moment, when the thought of what the demon would do to her in repayment for its presence, but she banished it.
What was her freedom in comparison to Chloe's? Or her people's?
Olga had known that her sins would come back to haunt for centuries now. She had known that the decision to protect her own people at the cost of Celestine's would eventually lead to her own downfall from the moment she had bent the monsters of Eostia to her will, but at least this way she had some control of her own fate.
She had given herself to this demon. She hadn't been taken by it. That thought, at least, gave her some semblance of comfort.
Olga knew that Vault and his close circle were no longer here - those remaining here talked, when they weren't using her or Chloe's bodies - which meant that they sadly wouldn't die immediately. But she would certainly enjoy the slaughter of the monsters who were still here.
She heard a vague commotion coming from the upper levels of the fortress, a commotion that steadily grew into the shouts and cries that came with combat. Moments later, a dark oppressive energy unlike anything Olga had felt before filled the air.
Olga smirked, knowing that the demon had come.
She crawled to her ward's side, wanting to be beside her in these last moments before the demon exacted its price.
Chloe stirred.
"My lady?"
Olga smiled down at her loyal guard, in an attempt to give her some comfort.
"Hush, Chloe. You will be free soon."
She saw the moment Chloe sensed the dark, abrasive power. Her eyes widened and got to her knees, but the door to their cell clanged open before she could say anything.
It was one of the Kuroinu, panicked and fearful, holding a sword in his hand. Olga thought that those emotions suited him more than the lust she had seen on his face when he touched her.
He pulled her roughly to him, ignoring Chloe's protests.
"You bitch, what have you done?!"
Olga only stared at the mercenary silently, gathering the remains of her dignity around her like a cloak. The Kuroinu pushed Olga to the ground, and held the point of the sword to her throat.
"How do we stop it?"
Olga smirked. Blood began to well up under the sword's point. "You can't."
"Tell me, or I'll -"
"You'll what? Beat me? Rape me? Throw me to the Orcs?"
The Kuroinu's nostrils flared in rage, much to Olga's satisfaction, and he kicked her firmly in the ribs. Olga gasped in pain, and heard Chloe's cry of "My lady!" from behind her. But before the man could do anything more, the caustic energy in the air thickened, as the demon approached.
The man cursed violently, and ran out of the cell, the door clanging shut behind him. A terrible shout - a death cry - arose moments later.
Olga's heart began to pound as footsteps approached the cell, and then she got her first look at the demon she had summoned.
It - he - was tall. Extremely so. His eyes were glowing a hellish red and slit-pupiled blue. He had long, silver hair gathered into a high horsetail, with bangs framing his face. Olga could see lethal looking claws, reddened with blood, on his hands. His clothes were reminiscent of Celestine's Princess Knight from the East, though the demon had a beaten-looking breastplate and pauldrons over his chest and shoulders. His face was marked with jagged blue on his cheekbones and red on his eyelids. Hanging like a cape on his back was a swath of pristine white fur.
The demon wrenched open the locked door to the cell with no visible effort. His glowing eyes lingered on Olga, before flicking over to Chloe. Panic rose in Olga's chest, though she refused to show it.
"She is one of my people. You cannot touch her." Olga ordered, with all of the authority of the Dark Queen in her voice. Their pact was not technically complete, not until the demon took its price. He would have to obey her terms if he wanted to stay on this plane.
The demon's expression softened ever so slightly, much to Olga's surprise, but then his gaze fixed on her again. He walked into the cell, the door falling to the ground with a clang behind him. The malicious energy was still heavy in the air.
Olga flinched away from him, despite herself.
Oh. So he was going to solidify the pact by indulging himself on her. Olga steeled herself for what was about to come. She had been prepared for this possibility.
At the very least…nothing the demon could do to her now would be worse than what she had already suffered.
"Do not interfere, Chloe."
"My lady-"
"Do as I say."
Chloe fell silent.
Even if the terms of the contract protected Chloe from the demon, Olga didn't want her to try to interfere. If she did, then the pact would be void, and demon would be well within his rights to hurt Chloe if she attempted to keep him from his payment.
The demon stopped in front of her, but instead of the pain and violation Olga was expecting, something soft landed gently atop her body.
She looked up in shock, grasping the blanket - for that was what it was - around herself, relishing in the ability to cover her body.
The demon was crouching in front of her, his expression…gentle. He held out his hand, and within his grasp was another bundle of cloth.
"Here. For her." The demon's voice was deep, and held a hint of a growl.
Olga took the cloth from him, scarcely believing what was happening, and gave it to Chloe.
This demon…he would have had to go out of his way to get these. They were clean, and freshly washed, and didn't so much as hold a hint of the putrid stench of the monsters or mercenaries.
He stood up, and backed a meter or so away.
"Come."
Olga looked at Chloe, who had crept up beside her, and then she stood up. Her body throbbed in pain as her overused muscles protested the motion, but Olga did not let her expression change in the slightest.
Chloe had a similar mask of pride on her face, though Olga knew her well enough to read the discomfort in her tightened lips and furrowed brows.
The demon stood outside of their cell, though his form did not block Olga's view of the Kuroinu from earlier.
His eyes were gazing sightlessly at the ceiling of the dungeon. Blood was pooling around his head, from the jagged gash where his throat used to be. His features were forever fixed in an expression of terror.
Olga stepped out of the cell with Chloe, satisfaction filling her as she looked at the body of one of her tormentors.
If this was any indication of the rest of those in her fortress, then summoning this demon…it was a choice she would never allow herself to regret.
No matter what the eventual price.
Toga was brought back in the clothes he died in, hence why his armour isn't in good condition. His clothes are made of fire rat, and are self-healing. His armour is not.
My initial thoughts as far as pairings go is Toga/Olga. However, I'm open to suggestions for any pairing anyone might like to see in this fic. My only hard no is a harem.
