This is my take on if it was Brooke instead of Peyton in the library(I know plenty of people have done this scenario already), Lucas decided a little earlier to try and get her out, and if Jimmy was a little bit more unhinged.
Now what Jimmy went through I feel for him because that sadly does happen to a lot of kids in school still to this day. What he did wasn't right at all but what happened to him is a true issue that I wish wasn't the case anymore in schools but it sadly is and probably always will be. Hopefully not someday though.
*I Do Not Own These Characters Or This TV Show*
A bullet...
Hard to believe something that something so small can alter or end a human life so quickly just by piercing you. The click of a trigger can cause a man or woman to face the end of their mortality, cause the weeping of eyes, the restlessness of minds, the scarring of souls with loss, and sleepless nights of it all about the person forever sleeping.
One pull of the trigger can change all.
So now here Lucas found himself in the silent, eerily quiet halls of Tree Hill High.
Watching as his half-brother set off to find Haley as he was off to find Brooke. The silence increased the fear that he admittedly had, but after Peyton told him that Brooke was still in there, he could care less about how much fear or worry he had.
They say you're either brave or stupid, well he would be stupidly brave to the utmost degree to make sure she was alright and safe.
Every step he took was calculated, swift, and cautionary. Trying his best to move quickly but not make a sound. Seeing that blood earlier increased his need to hurry up, but he knew he would never find her if he lost his wit and composure.
He reached the door and opened it as silently as he could, ready to swing his bat at a moment's notice if he needed to.
Stepping even quieter than he already had been as he scanned the library from the top floor of it. He was thrilled to not see her but also upset that he hadn't. He knew now that he would have to go down there all the way to make sure but he was hopeful that if she was down there, she be in one piece and just hiding.
Lucas walked through the library now, looking behind him, beside him, and anywhere else but not seeing anything.
He gritted his teeth at the thought of not finding her yet, his heart felt like it had a lump in it from all of this. He would let out a deep breath to keep calm but he was worried that it may be too loud.
His mind was racing with her on his mind until he heard something get bumped from somebody shuffling around too much.
He stopped dead in his tracks. That fear is at an all-time high now because what if it was the shooter? What if it was the shooter with Brooke?! That worrisome thought urged him on with ease to see what that noise was.
He took each step carefully until he got closer to the shelf that the noise came from.
Okay, on 3...
1...2...3
He popped around the shelf ready to swing at whoever the shooter was but a fearful, teary gasp escaped the person and Lucas quickly realized who it was. "Brooke!" He exclaimed as quietly as he could, concern and a sudden panic evident as well. He felt terrible at first for scaring her by jumping around like that but his attention was fully on her now.
He ran to her, her weeping almost made him start to himself.
The fear in her eyes washed away and the relief started taking over, he placed his nurturing hands on her back and leg as he crouched down beside her, he snatched his hand off her leg though as she yelped out in pain.
Brooke bit her lip so she wouldn't squeal so loud in pain. "My leg, my leg Luke!" She closed her eyes at the searing pain and Lucas almost screamed apologies but manage to bite his tongue, he hated causing her pain.
He glanced down at his hand and saw it had blood on it, he looked down at Brooke's leg and saw it had blood going down from above her knee, with a rather large piece of glass that looked like it must have lacerated her leg rather deeply.
"I lost Peyton Lucas." She said through her deep cries & whimpers.
Lucas grabbed ahold of her hand to be as consoling as he could, his other hand placed on her cheek. "She's fine okay? She's fine." He said with a slight breaking in his voice for a moment at seeing Brooke like this. Allowing his thumb to caress her cheek as soothingly as he could to try his best to settle her. He hasn't ever thought it was possible to be this worried.
"I need to get you somewhere safe." He said to her and motioned to help her up but she begged for him to stay down with her. The way she clutched his arm made his chest ache because he hated seeing her this scared.
"No no, don't leave me Luke please!" Her cries came on strong again and the small sniffles were breaking his heart. He crouched down right beside her again this time, rubbing her hand that was grasping his.
"I won't okay? I won't." He placed both his hands on her cheeks and stared deep into the depths of those beautiful eyes. "I'm right here pretty girl, I'm right here." He placed his lips on hers now and they interlocked for a very deep kiss that had tons of emotions in it. Fear, assurance, but so much love in it.
He was about to pull away and sit beside her but she brought him back in for another deep, long passionate kiss.
Their lips separated but they barely moved away from each other, their foreheads now placed softly against each other and both their eyes remained closed from the declaration of love being shared in the moment.
"Thank you" She said through the cries in her voice, sniffing one more time. "Thank you." He didn't say a word but nodded his head a little but still left it against hers. They both opened their eyes and he saw that his hand left some blood on her cheek and used his thumb to caress some of it away.
Brooke felt her heart flutter at the kindness and sadness his blue eyes exuded as they stared at her so attentively, so lovingly. He wiped at some of her tears again and brought her in for another kiss, she placed her hand on the back of his head to bring him in closer if that was even possible.
Their lips separated once again but he pecked her lips with his again, then again. He placed both his hands on her temples and placed a loving kiss on her forehead as her cries were no longer pain-filled but silent.
Something about silent tears hurt the most though.
"Brooke..." He said her name like he regretted what he was going to have to say next. She looked at him to see what he was about to say but she had a bad feeling about what it was going to be.
"It's bleeding pretty bad...We're goin' have to put some pressure on it." He said sadly. More tears streamed from her face and she closed her eyes again at dreading the thought, nodding her head at understanding they had too.
He began taking his shirt off. "Luke...It was your friend. The one from the time capsule...he had the gun." She said and he stopped moving for a moment as she did. He knew Jimmy was having a rough time but this?
"But it didn't look evil or angry, he just looked tired." Brooke swallowed. "Then after he pulled the trigger...he just looked scared." Lucas couldn't move for a moment, he felt responsible somehow for Jimmy falling into this. It was his friend and he let him down.
"I should've been a better friend to him." He said more to himself but Brooke shook her head.
"This isn't your fault Lucas." She said but he honestly could say he didn't agree with that too much but he went back to taking off his shirt to wrap around her wounded leg.
Lucas had the shirt off now but stopped and shared a meaningful look with Brooke. A look that signaled he was about to touch it and her giving him the silent go-ahead to proceed. His facial expression voiced his displeasure in having to do this but he knew he had to.
He softly placed the shirt on the wounded part of her leg, then carefully wrapped it around softly. Now he grabbed the sleeves and crossed them over as if he was tying a shoe.
He sighed because now here comes the hard part. Him having to tighten it into a knot around her leg.
Lucas looked back at her and she glanced back at him. Nodding once again to let him know she was ready, he closed his eyes because he knew she was going to probably be in agony once again and it was going to hurt his soul knowing its because he is touching her but he knows he has to.
So he tried to do it quick as possible to get it over with for her. Grabbing both ends of the sleeves and pulling them apart to tighten them around her leg, she was screaming as quietly as she could with her mouth close and the strangled yelps of pain almost made him shed a tear. He did it to the sleeves one more time to secure it and immediately sat beside her and cradles her head close to his chest as he stroked her hair.
"It's over now, it's over okay? It's over." He was stroking her hair still and placed a kiss on the top of her head. He fought back the tears that tried to escape his eyes for a moment and he just held her.
Her being so strong and not yelling out in pain reminded him of a moment they shared when he first started to fall for her after Peyton was drugged at that college party. "After all this time and I still didn't know you were that tuff. Always surprising me in the most amazing ways Brooke Davis." He said adoringly and she didn't say anything but he could feel her soften against him.
Moving her face up so now she was in the crook of his neck.
The smart thing to do would be to just sit there and wait all of this out, but Lucas wasn't sure that was the right move here. Brooke still was bleeding too much for them to just sit and wait an extended period of time.
Also, he was worried what if somehow her wound got infected or already was.
He was just thankful it wasn't a bullet. From what it looked like to his eyes though, it appeared as if it was a big piece of glass that maybe she fell onto or maybe she fell and she almost got trampled by people, and that's how it happened. The thought sickened him so he definitely wasn't going to bring it up to her right now, she was finally settling down.
She probably could walk a little but he doubts comfortably so he'll have to carry her out of here most likely. "Lucas..." Her sudden mentioning of his name snapped him out of his thoughts for the moment.
Brooke still leaned on his shoulder but arched her head up so she can look him in his eyes. "if we die in here-"
"Hey hey hey" He cut her off in a silent whisper, moving some of the stray hairs in front of her face behind her ear. "We aren't going to die okay?" He placed his forehead against hers once again. "Now I'm goin' have to get you out of here, okay? But nothing will happen to you." He said surely. "I promise." He said that part so firmly and with an intense look in his eyes that Brooke never saw him have before.
Brooke shifted so their faces were aligned from each other once again even if he was looking down at hers since she was leaning against the shelf more. "Peyton says you're always saving her...This time you're saving me." She said so softly that the beautiful sultriness in her voice sounded like music to him.
"Well, it was either this or rack up the assault charges against every guy who said something about you flashing the time capsule camera." He joked terribly and she giggled through her tears.
"I love you." She said so passionately yet so sweetly as if she was worried she may not be able to later. "I love you so much, Lucas." She kissed him once again. It was deep, long, and filled with a loving desire.
Their lips slowly parted away from each other and she watched his for a moment before back into his eyes. "Just in case you can't keep your promise."
"I will." He reaffirmed once again. He took a deep breath. "I'm going to pick you up and carry you out of here okay?" He said to her and she nodded sadly. He could tell she was upset that she couldn't move too well on her own.
Lucas got himself into a crouching position to allow Brooke to wrap her arm around his neck, he placed his right around her back and slowly put his other arm under her knees to prepare to lift her. He looked at her face to see if it was already hurting with him touching it.
"I can't really feel it as much anymore." She informed him and he knew that was very bad news. The only good news if that's what you wanna call it, was that she hadn't appeared fatigued yet but it looked like it was getting started.
"I'm getting you out of here." He said to her and lifted her up now.
It amazed Lucas how despite the situation they were in, her closeness to him and her scent was so wonderful. He wished he could take the bat with him just in case but that wasn't possible, well not in a productive way.
All he had to do was make sure she got out of there.
They arrived at the door to exit the library and Lucas felt his nerves rise because as soon as they stepped out that door, the danger would heighten. He shared a look with Brooke who appeared as if she had that same thought.
Lucas gave her a reassuring nod and then turned his back toward it so he could push it open since he was carrying Brooke.
Okay now...boom!
His thoughts ceased as the door slammed shut out of nowhere. The sound startled him but the action caused him to just close his eyes in dismay. C'mon Lucas. He screamed in his head.
He heard the breathing of Brooke's hitch and she begin to breathe with a lot more panic. "It's okay, you're going to be fine." He said to her but she was more worried about him than herself right now.
Brooke never thought she be more worried for anyone's life than her own besides Peyton until now.
He continued to walk until he saw the blood stain on the floor and the glass so he knew they were about to officially exit the library now. As he approached the door with the broken windows he reached to open it.
"Where do you think you're going?!" An angry voice yelled before he could though. Brooke gasped as she looked in the direction it came from and Lucas stopped dead in his tracks.
Jimmy.
"She's bleeding"
"The school's on lockdown!" He roared, motioning the gun towards him after every passing word he utter. Brooke flinched a few times with each motion and Lucas manage to keep his anger down at Jimmy for causing her such fear. The last thing this situation needed was an angry outburst from him.
He swallowed it and talk some more. "I know Jim...But if I don't get her out of here she's going to die."
Jimmy's face became sorrowful at the sight of Brooke and her bloody leg. "I didn't mean to hurt her." He said as he slightly lowered the gun and Lucas could tell it was genuine because of how sadly he voiced it, there still is who he truly was under all of that anger.
"So how about you help me save her then?" Lucas said carefully.
"No! The school's on lockdown!" He roared again and went back to aiming the gun.
"She's hurt, Jimmy..." Lucas said again, trying to find a way to appeal to the Jimmy under all of the pain and anger.
"I didn't mean it..." He said with tears trying to fight their way out.
"I know Jim...But it happened." Lucas said to him and Jimmy's tears came out for a moment and Lucas attempted to finally open the door.
"No! Get your hand away from it Luke!" Jimmy roared once again and took a step forward, his foot a couple of inches away from a flexible binder on the floor. Lucas could hear Brooke trying not to cry and it was breaking his heart.
Jimmy didn't look like he was going to be letting this go anytime soon.
"How about you let her go and just keep me." Lucas said next and Brooke turned to him in disbelief.
"What?! No!" Brooke exclaimed to him in a hushed whisper, her eyes gleaming from the tears brimming in her eyes. Lucas ignored her though because if he looked down at her face, it would make it that much harder.
"No no no NO!" Jimmy yelled back at him, tears escaping his face again. Lucas slowly put Brooke down even if she didn't want him to. She stood right next to him but he soon realized she wouldn't make it out of there unless he carried her out, she was leaning against him heavily and her lips were losing color. Her skin wasn't too far behind her lips in that regard and her eyes were seeming groggy now.
He only put her down because Jimmy kept waving the gun every time and if he shot it, it would've hit Brooke first if he was still holding her. "Lucas..." She said cautiously, he still had his arm wrapped around her waist from behind to help hold her up. He could feel her need to lean on him increasing though, he had to get her out of here somehow.
He also tried to find a way to slowly but barely move over so he was more in front of the gun than Brooke was because Jimmy was more aiming at her still. "What are you doing!? Stop Moving!" He bellowed at Lucas and Lucas did. Letting out a frustrated sigh at Brooke still being in danger.
"You said you didn't mean it...She never did anything to you Jim." Lucas's voice started to have a slight beg in it now.
"Yeah, well she never did anything for me either did she?!" He roared back at Lucas. Brooke's eyes glazed over for a moment but the roaring kept her awake a good amount. She wish there was something she could think of or do but she was blank.
Lucas was about to speak but stopped as they heard heavy winds outside with something that sounded like fast-moving blades. Must be a helicopter, either the police or possibly the news people.
It must be landing because it was getting louder and louder.
"I'm getting her out of here Jimmy." He said to his old friend and he motioned forward again to open the door.
"No!" Jimmy screamed again and shove the gun forward threateningly as the helicopter was still landing by the sound of it. Jimmy took his angry step forward to spook Lucas into stop moving which he did but Jimmy never saw the binder in front of him.
As he stepped forward his foot ended up sliding backward on it and Lucas could see how bad that was going to end up.
"NOO!" Lucas screamed in fear as he quickly moved to shove Brooke out of the way by hugging her close and throwing themselves to the ground as Jimmy slipped backward' and the gun fired. The glass to the other door shattered now as Brooke and Lucas tumbled to the ground, Brooke screamed even in her groggy state at the gun going off.
Jimmy's eyes were wide with shock, the fear of this all built up in him now.
The glass that fell cut Brooke on the cheek once but she didn't notice, she checked herself to see where she had been shot at but never found anything. Thank god, was all she could think right now, so the bullet miss them. She had trouble sitting up with her leg but rolled around to let Lucas know the bullet missed.
She manage to flip around to him but horror struck her eyes as she heard a cough escape him on the floor. He was trembling and turned around slowly to face her the best he could, coughing again and some blood came out of his mouth. "Brooke..." He said with a voice trembling so much the words barely got out.
"Lucas" Brooke said his name in such fear and terror it barely came out. He had his hand on the left side of his stomach and a big red stain was forming. He coughed again and more blood came out of his trembling mouth. "Lucas!" Brooke exclaimed in even more terror than last time if that was possible.
Jimmy hadn't moved a muscle yet, his hand was shaking in disbelief. "I shot my friend." He said so lowly to himself. "I shot my friend." He kept saying on repeat in dread.
"Lucas Lucas no no" Brooke said with tears pouring out of her, the deep fear causing her to tremble the words she spoke. She slid over to him as he pushed himself against the wall and she joined him. "Lucas oh my god oh my god!" Her voice was cracking through the cries.
She placed her hand on it to help keep pressure on it and turned to Jimmy. "Help him, please! Please, Jimmy!" She begged him, turning back to Lucas now as a cold sweat was building on his forehead and his breathing was a heavy heave but she wasn't sure how long that would be. "Please!" She cried out more.
Jimmy just watched on in fright at it all. "I shot my friend." He said to himself in shocking disbelief once again, the tears escaped his eyes now. "I'm a monster. I'm a monster." He said now as Brooke cried more for Lucas, he was still awake but even she could tell he didn't have long at all.
"Jimmy please!" She begged desperately but it didn't come out as loud as the others because of how hard she cried some more.
Jimmy took a step back then another. "I shot my friend, I'm a monster." He said once again and then just ran off back to the direction he came from. Brooke's eyes widened in disbelief at him just running off but she shouldn't have expected much, Jimmy was broken.
"Lucas, stay with me okay." She said as she coughed herself from how hard she was crying.
He placed his hand on hers and looked up at her with a kind but hurting smile. "Always pretty girl."
