Chapter 6

Felix was well aware of what a goblin was. But what kind of idiot would let goblins handle their money, yet alone the finances of every magical person in the country? They were useful, certainly, and their enchanted items and weapons were on par with that of dwarven make but they were cruel and greedy. They would not hesitate to exploit any weakness to line their pockets.

His words were heard by the professor "I assure you Mr potter I am quite serious. It might come as a surprise but there are other magical beings and creatures out there in the world, most muggle myths have some truth to them." she explained.

Felix's momentary shock had caused him to slip up. It was fortunate that the professor had assumed that he was in awe of finding out about other magical creatures and beings. On the outside of the doors where two goblin guards stood, there was something written in English.

Enter, stranger but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed,

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay dearly in their turn,

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.

They went inside and waited in line for a few minutes. Once they reached the front where the goblin teller was written on a book with a quill. He glanced at the two of us for a moment before returning to his work. As if our mere presence was an annoyance.

"We are here to withdraw some money out of Mr Potter's trust vault." the professor said.

"And does Mr Potter have his key?" the teller said with a sneer.

The professor placed the key on the table, the goblin inspected it for a moment before calling another goblin, they spoke for a moment in what Felix assumed was gobbledigook. The other goblin turned to Felix and the professor and said "Follow me."

They were led to a room with what looked like a minecart on rails. The three of them got it and the goblin pulled a lever. Instantly the cart hurtled down the track, turning left and right and going up and down with a few twists and loops thrown in for good measure. Finally, the goblin pulled another lever and the cart abruptly came to a stop. The three of them got out and the goblin walked up to the door "Key," he said. The professor handed the goblin the key and it opened the door. On the other side lay a sizable pile of gold which was taller than Felix. The professor handed him a pouch.

"I took the liberty of purchasing you a money pouch. It has a few charms placed on it so it is bigger on the inside, it has a space of 50 cubic centimetres. It also has some anti-theft charms which require you to smear a drop of blood onto it. She pulled out a needle before holding her hand out. Felix, understanding what she wanted, held out his hand. Quickly she pricked his finger and a drop of blood was smeared onto his pouch. The small cut had a head as soon as the blood was drawn. Felix could feel the magic healing his small cut.

She handed him the pouch and Felix walked into the vault and took enough Galleons to fill the pouch halfway.

"I don't think that much gold will be necessary Mr Potter." She said

"Better have it and not need it than need it and not have it, besides I might want to buy some extra books. I am quite curious about magic." He said there was also the fact that he would require lodgings until the start of school. But he did not mention that.

They left the bank and then spent the next few hours buying school equipment. He also procured some extra books not required for the first years. Such as a Standard Book of Spells grade 2, Defensive Magical Theory, Ingredients Encyclopaedia, Intermediate Transfiguration, Numerology and Grammatica, Law and Literature, Ancient Law, The Dark Arts a Legal Companion, Ancient Runes Made Easy, Important Modern Magical Discoveries, Great Wizarding Events of the Twentieth Century, Book of Potions and Charms of Defense and Deterrence.

Felix was interested to see how magic had developed things like charms and transfiguration hadn't existed. From the bowsing he did of some of the first-year books, it seems as though charms seemed to spell which do not change the intrinsic nature of an object on which it is cast. In his first life, he could think of a spell or two which fell into this category. Transfiguration however was something new entirely, some aspects had been present in his first life, like some rituals which turn people into animals and objects. When he had asked the professor about transfiguration she had briefly touched upon conjuration which was something he was familiar with, he had attempted to create a stone golem to rival the Colossus of Rhodes. He had never managed to create one which was bigger. His was half the size that Colossus had said to have been.

He had picked up some history and law books. He picked up a law book about the "dark arts". Felix was intrigued as to what was classed as "dark" by the wizards of today. He like many of the learned of his time knew magic was neither light nor dark, it simply just was. A force of nature which binds the earth and will exist long after the human race. After he had left the company of the professor he would have to go exploring to see if there was a black market of some kind. He would not be restricted by the narrow-minded views of the governing body of magical Britain. Potions were something which were around during his time but his knowledge of it had never gone beyond that of an adept potions maker. It also seems as though a few of the recipes he knew have been lost. And others altered simply to due the fact that the ingredients were extinct. Alchemy was in its infancy during his first life so his knowledge of it was very limited mostly because of his lack of interest.

After seeing some of the books he had picked, the professor looked at him with a raised eyebrow but said nothing. They had gotten everything he had his robes fitted, he brought all the other books or equipment that he required. The one thing left was for him to buy a wand. Something he was most excited about. He was intrigued by wand lore and wished to find out what they were made from and how they worked.

They had taken a break and had some lunch to eat as it was already past midday, right after they had finished eating the professor started to say "Harry there is something I need to tell you."

"Years ago, there was a dark lord who terrorised magical Britain. He started a civil war he believed that muggles and other magical people who shared their blood should be killed. Your parents were one of the people who opposed him, one night he went to their home and killed them using the killing curse, a curse which no one has ever survived. He also tried to kill you using the killing curse. However, somehow you survived and he was vanquished. From that day on everyone knows you as the boy who lived. The one who defeated the dark lord He who must not be named." she said.

"This dark lord, what was his name?" Felix asked.

Professor McGonagall looked around before leaning in close, "Voldemort." she whispered

Returning to her original position and speaking in her normal voice "I thought it best I tell you now so that it doesn't become a shock when you get to Hogwarts. Everyone in the wizarding world knows your name."

Wow if Felix was any other 11-year-old child he might have gotten a little arrogant hearing that he was famous for defeating a dark lord who terrorised magical Britain. He doubted that Harry would though, the way he was raised would have led to him being shy and insecure about his fame.

The professor had directed him to Ollivander's wand shop. They must have become more popular since his time. The professor had waited outside telling him to go in. Felix had walked in only to be surprised by the sheer concentration of magical energy. It was a stark difference from what he has felt since entering this body. Even Diagon Alley, which had a higher concentration of magical energy than Surrey and the rest of London, did not match the amount of energy permeating through the shop. It was the closest he had come to how it felt during his first life.

"Hello," Felix shouted confidently.

"Ay Yes," said the man Felix assumed was Ollivander " I wondered when I would be seeing you."

"You have your mothers eye's. It seems only yesterday that she came here to buy her first wand. Ten and a quarter itches, swishy, made of willow, great for charms."

Ollivander stepped closer he stared at Felix with his silver eyes and Felix met his gaze.

"Your father, however, favoured a mahogany wand. Eleven itches, Pliable. A little bit more power and an excellent wand for transfiguration. Well I say that he favoured it, it's the wand which chooses the wizard, Mr Potter.

"Are you implying that the wand has some level of sentience?" Felix asked.

"Yes, yes each wand has a will of its own. They choose a wizard or witch which would be the most fit to wield them." Ollivander replied.

"And the chosen witch or wizard's personality or talents would mirror that of their wands?" Felix asked.

"Yes, an excellent observation Mr Potter. You will make a fine Wizard." Ollivander said.

"What do you use to create your wands sir?" Felix asked

"Well, they are made from various different types of wood, and they have a magical core inside. The cores which I use are: Unicorn hair, Phoenix feather, and Dragon heartstring."

"An incredible feat to slay a dragon for its heartstring no less, the population of dragons must have increased significantly since my time." Felix thought. During his first life dragon's were a rare sight, they were a magical creature with 4 legs who could speak human languages. They were intelligent and powerful beings. Who had great magic at their disposal. They could spit all different types of elements from their mouths and not just fire as it is often portrayed in the media. They had great control over the element which they were born with. However their Eggs were difficult to hatch, and due to their long lives they seldom mated. Their cousins the Drakes and wyverns were much more common when compared to the dragons, however they were just animals who didn't possess the level of intelligence seen by dragons.

Felix made a mental note to do some research on dragons, he had a feeling that something had changed.

"Dragons?" Felix said in an excited voice "What do they look like?"

"Well, they are Winged fire breathing lizards, they can grow to be the size of a city bus. They have two front wings and two hind legs. They are terrifying and awe inspiring creatures." Ollivander said.

Felix was almost concerned. That didn't match the description of dragons which he was familiar with, the size was far too small. It resembled a wyvern more than it did a dragon. He had the pleasure of meeting and befriending two dragons both on different continents. They had expressed their concerns about the changes of the world, and that soon their kind would die out. He didn't pay much heed at the time. Dragons are long lived creatures afterall, several lifetimes of a human was but the blink of an eye to them.

Well at the time he didn't expect to be standing 16 centuries in the future, while in the body of a child.

"Wow!" Felix exclaimed in mock excitement.

"Yes, it is rather fascinating isn't it, now back to the matter at hand. Which is your dominant hand Mr Potter."

"I can use both proficiently but I favour my right," Felix replied.

"Stick out your right hand then Mr Potter" Ollivander said and Felix complied.

A tape measure which was sitting on the table shot to life and began measuring his arm.

"You see Mr Potter, no two wands are alike, just like no two Unicorns, Dragons, and Phoenix's are quite alike."

As Ollivander was talking the tape measure had finished measuring his arm and moved on to his head. Once it had completed its task it went back to its original position.

"Right then, Mr. Potter, try this one. Beechwood and dragon heartstring nine inches, quite flexible." Olivander said.

The wand was cold to the touch and Felix couldn't feel any connection to it. "Interesting perhaps it has some level of sentience after all," Felix thought.

He could force his magic through but it wouldn't be as effective. Felix placed it back on the desk and Olivander swiped it and replaced it with another.

"Here try this ebony with unicorn hair, eight and a half inches springy."

Felix picked up the wand and felt a faint warmth with a slight connection to his magical pathways. He felt good about this wand and gave it a wave allowing his magic to pass though, a few sparks flew out but the overall effect was underwhelming.

Olivander snatched the wand out of his hand and replaced it with another. After a few minutes testing wands which produced different but volatile effects.

Felix was given a cherry wand, from the moment he picked up the wand he could feel an instant connection, it connected to Felix's magical pathways in a way which was almost unnatural. It was like the wand was an extension of Felix's own arm. The magic flowed through right to the tip without any prompting. This wasn't right: a focus should only draw upon the magic of a user when their magic is called upon.

"Cherry, with a Dragon heartstring, 10 and a half inches, slightly springy. A powerful combination. Cherry is known for its truly lethal power, and Dragon heartstring produces powerful and flamboyant magic. We can expect great things from you Mr Potter," Ollivander said.
