Chapter 1 – Another Japanese Thing
Feli's POV
It started off as a normal winter day here in Primp ("normal" by our standards). It had recently started snowing. So, it was up to Mao, Bal, and me to clear up a path from our house to the street.
"C-Come on…move, you little…GAH!"
*THUD*
"Ow…"
And let me tell you, it is NOT an easy job.
"Gah! This is so freaking stupid!" I yelled as I threw my shovel across the yard. "Why are we using shovels for this crap when we have magical charms?! Let's just burn it all down!"
"Feli…the last time we did that, the whole yard caught on fire." Mao said. "And we got a pretty good scolding from the Mayor, too."
"Well, I didn't know that leaves were flammable…" I pouted. "And besides…why shovel it all up when it's just gonna get recovered the next day? Seems like a waste of time."
"Look, I don't like it as much as you do. But we gotta get this done. So, quit complaining and get back on it. We're almost done, anyway."
"Ugh! Fine! Bal, let's handle that spot over there."
"ARF!"
After about another 30 minutes, we finally got all the snow cleared up. And were now spraying hot water on the pavement to melt the frozen ice all over the place. I really grew annoyed at constantly slipping while shoving this snow.
My ass hurts just thinking about it…
"*sigh* Finally done…"
"ARF! ARF!"
"Thanks, Bal. You were a great help." I said as I patted his head (or rather…helmet).
"ARF!"
"Wow…looking good here, Kuromi Sisters. Wish my yard looked like this more often."
"Hey, Futaba." Mao said.
"Why couldn't you come earlier?" I whined. "I had to shovel all of this snow and my ass hurts from falling so much."
"Oh, boo-hoo. Let me play a sad song on the world's smallest violin for ya."
"I was looking for sympathy. Not smartass remarks, jerk." I gained an exasperated look.
Ever since getting the OK from both her parents and teacher during the summer, my best friend Futaba Okazaki often comes by here from her own world known as Toyama. Normally, you would have to wait a month for the eclipse to show up in order for the path between both worlds to open up. But thanks to a special crystal given to her by Lemres, she and the others can come and go as they please.
Which, in all honesty, makes me super happy. Saying goodbye to them was hard the first time around. I don't think I can handle it again. Especially with how I am towards them.
…
And speaking of the others…
"So, it's just you today?" I asked.
"Yeah…Hinata's busy with her family's store, Naoko's out of town for the holidays, and Rin's stuck doing remedial classes. *sigh* Poor girl…and she was so close to passing, too."
Sounds like Rin's learning disabilities got in the way again…
"Oh, by the way…on the way here, I ran into Famitsu. She seemed pretty excited about something. She said she would call you, Mao."
"Did she now?" Mao said in an exasperated tone. "It'll be interesting to hear what she's been up to these past few months."
Famitsu Hasumi is Mao's friend from high school. When Mao retired from playing as the lead role in an anime called Magical Girl Cutie-Pie Erika's Heart-Throbbing Miracle Cure, Famitsu took her place in a spin-off to that show called Magical Girl Sweetie-Pie Monika's Heart-Beating Miracle Cure.
Now, if you ask me…BOTH of them are the most ridiculous things I have ever seen. And it truly baffles me how Futaba, Rin, and even Amitie find enjoyment in those shows.
…
But, at the same time…I pretty much owe these stupid-as-hell shows for giving me the life I currently have now. As before them, it wasn't that great.
As much as I don't like to admit it…
*RINGTONE CHIME*
"And there she is now…" Mao said as she answered her phone. "Hello?"
"Hey, hey! Mao-chan! Long time no chat!"
"Famitsu…I see you're as hyper as always. What's this thing you have to tell me?"
"Aw~…so, Futaba's already there~. I was hoping I could beat her to it."
"I saw her 3 hours ago. She sure took her sweet time." Futaba said with a sweatdrop.
"Anyway! You are NOT gonna believe this! Someone actually made an official doujinshi about the Miracle Cure series!"
"An official doujinshi?" Mao asked. "Doujinshi can't be official. They're fanmade."
"Well, the producer read and absolutely LOVED it! He even acknowledged it online and the fans went crazy!"
"Is that really a good thing, though? You know how doujinshi tend to be…you know…"Not Safe For Work"."
"Not safe for work?" I asked Futaba. Who's only reply was a simple nervous laugh.
"Oh, come on, Mao. It ain't that bad. It's totally kid-friendly."
"A kid-friendly doujinshi? That sounds just as unbelievable as World Peace."
W-Wait, she doesn't believe in World Peace? I gained a mental sweatdrop.
"Well, if you don't believe me, then come see it for yourself. Kaori and I are gonna go get a copy during Comiket this weekend."
"Comiket?" Mao went silent for a bit. "Oh, yeah. It's the end of December. It's really going to be there?"
"Yep! And the author's gonna give autographs to the first 100 people! I'm totally gonna get mine's signed!"
"But wouldn't it be better if YOU signed it yourself?"
…
…
…
"J…Just get over here!" This was the last thing Famitsu had said before hanging up. leaving Mao more exasperated now than she did when she answered the phone.
"*sigh* Geez…looks like I'm going to Comiket."
"What's this "Comiket" thing?" I asked.
"It's a semiannual doujinshi convention held over in Japan. More specifically, its capital Tokyo."
Still shocked about that world having a capital…
"It's where people can sell their self-made fanworks, also known as "doujinshi", to others who share their interests." Futaba added. "They're usually based on other pieces of media. Like video games, manga, and, most of the time, anime."
"I'm not totally surprised that people started making Miracle Cure doujinshi. But it's shocking that something like that became immensely popular." Mao said. "Usually, that place is filled to the brim with stuff from either Touhou or Kantai Collection."
"Yeah…those two are all over the place."
"So, people actually made stuff about you guys?" I asked.
"Yeah, but…the thing is, these people tend to make these doujinshi "Not Safe For Work". Or simply "R-18"."
"Restricted to those under the age of 18." Futaba explained.
"What's usually in that kind of stuff?"
"Sex. And, well…more sex. It's basically one ginormous sex book based on other people's property that's somehow legal to make."
"I-I see…" I gained a sweatdrop.
My home world truly is a special place…
"In any case…" Mao continued. "…other than Famitsu basically demanding me to go, I am curious to see what this Miracle Cure doujinshi looks like. You guys wanna come?"
"Sure, I'm in." Futaba said. "It'll be my first time going to Comiket, anyway. I always wanted to see what it's like."
"Eh, I'll go." I said. "I'm still not interested in this show. But it'll be interesting to be a part of another ritual of the Japanese people after a while."
"Ritual of the Japanese people?" Mao asked with a sweatdrop.
"You're a Japanese person too, you dope." Futaba said with a sweatdrop of her own.
"Oh, yeah…" Was all I said.
Futaba's POV
Later that day, Feli and I actually ran into Amitie and Lidelle as they were grabbing some hot chocolate from Primp's recently opened café. So, after each grabbing one ourselves, we explained to them what was going on and asked if they wanted to tag along.
And like their friend, they were completely confused.
"So, a place called…Co-mi-ket…is selling fanmade books called…dou-jin-shi…about the Miracle Cure series?" Amitie asked.
"Sounds like another one of those Japanese people rituals we learned about before." Lidelle said.
"Please stop calling them Japanese people rituals…" I said with a sweatdrop.
"We figured you would at least want to go, Amitie." Feli said. "Since it's yet another Miracle Cure event."
"You bet I wanna go!" Amitie cheered. Then went silent for a bit. "But…it's gonna be in that Japanese language, isn't it?"
"Most likely." I said. "People who make doujinshi are highly inexperienced in writing in English."
"Ugh! And I just got the hang of speaking it, too!"
"Wait, seriously? You're learning Japanese, Amitie?"
"We all are." Lidelle said. "We started taking lessons from Hinata and Ichiko. And so far, we're doing pretty good."
"Really, now? Well, I'll be the judge of that. Say something in Japanese."
"Aw, geez…an actual test." Amitie said before going silent again. Thinking of what to say.
…
"Watashi no namae…uh…Amitī. Wagahai wa…j-jū nana sai. Soshite, Mirakuru Kyua mo daisuki! Desu!"
D-Desu? Was that a sentence-ender?
"Kon'nichiwa. Watashi no namae…R…R-Rideru. Wagahai wa…jū roku sai. Soshite, Mario Kāto mo daisuki."
Of course, Lidelle had to throw Mario Kart into it…
"Watashi no namae Fēri. Sengetsu, jū nana sai ni natta bakari no watashi. Soshite, shin'yū no oppai no ōki-sa o itte okora seru no ga daisuki. Fufufufu."
"Okay, screw you." I said to Feli after she had made an insult about my boobs.
"So, how was it?" Amitie asked.
"It's pretty good. Amitie and Lidelle, you guys had a few stutters here and there. But still, I'm impressed. A few months ago, none of you knew a single word of Japanese. So, it's a huge step up."
"Yes! I sound like a Japanese girl!"
"I guess Hinata's brutal way of studying really did pay off." Lidelle said.
"Yeah…she's definitely brutal." Feli and I both gained sweatdrops. Easily remembering the times we would have study sessions with Hinata and immediately regret it.
"So, with this much learned, I should be fine, right?" Amitie asked. "If all else fails, I still got that earpiece Lemres gave me for the Miracle Cure Anniversary Special."
"Well…I guess it should be fine." I said. "I highly doubt you'll be talking to a bunch of people there, anyway. And I can probably get the others to tag along as backup just in case."
"Alright! I'm gonna get the Miracle Cure book!"
"Miracle Cure book?! What do you mean "Miracle Cure book"?!" We were suddenly interrupted when Yu appeared in front of us in an excited fit. Seemingly overhearing our conversation.
"There's a convention over in Toyama that's selling a fanmade book based on the Miracle Cure series." Lidelle explained. "We were talking about going over there and checking it out."
"Ooh~…a book about Miracle Cure~…you guys just GOTTA take me with you! Please, please, PLEASE!"
"G-Geez, Yu. Calm down." I said. "It should be fine letting you tag along. We Miracle Cure fans gotta stick together, you know."
"Hell yeah! I can't wait!" Yu then went silent for a bit. "Oh, wait…I should probably tell Rei, too. Be right back!"
*POOF*
…
…
…
"You know, I keep forgetting that she used to be a ghost…" I said after we watched Yu disappear from our sights in a flash.
"It's rather hard not to." Feli said. "To this day, she still complains about how the human body works. Just last week, we had to argue with her about wearing underwear."
"Sh-She doesn't wear underwear?"
"Up until Christmas…she didn't."
"W-Wow…"
That probably explains why she was always first to get undressed…
"A-Anyway…Comiket starts on Saturday. So, you guys should probably head on over to our world by tomorrow so we can beat the lines…somewhat."
"Somewhat?" The trio asked.
"The lines tend to be long as hell. Simply getting into the building will take at least an hour. Which is why the biggest of fans just spend the night outside."
"Ew, gross." Lidelle said. "People are willing to sleep OUTSIDE for a book?"
"If you're a HUGE fan of a certain series, you'll do pretty much anything."
"Geez…"
"I think I still have my sleeping bag from the class camping trip…" Amitie mumbled to herself.
"You're not sleeping outside." Feli and Lidelle retorted.
"Hey, Feli. There you are." We then noticed another girl walking up to our table. This one had long red hair, blue eyes, white feathery wings, and a glowing halo on her head…
…
W-Wait a minute! Is she an angel?! Does that mean that she's DEAD?!
"Oh hey, Floré. What's up?"
"Well…I was just at your house and your sister said you were out. I…uh…h-had something to give you. Y-You know…for Christmas. A-And such." The girl then held out a present while looking away from us. Even having a small blush on her face.
"Woah…a gift. Thanks, Floré. You're really starting to get this "friendship" thing down."
"Q-Quit saying stuff like that as if I have no friends! It's insulting!"
"Well, do you have friends? Besides me, of course."
…
…
…
"W-Well…sh-shut up!"
She almost sounds like a tsundere…
"Hey, Feli…you know this girl?" I asked.
"Oh, right. This is Floré Hoshinio. She's an angel who attends the Light Academy that's above Primp."
"A-Above Primp? L-Like as in Heaven?"
"They're not dead. They were just born that way."
"O…Okay…" I still didn't get it. But I felt like it was another line I shouldn't legally cross. So, I didn't ask anymore.
"Hmm…correct me if I'm wrong…but you're Futaba Okazaki, right?" Floré asked me.
"Yep, that's me. The girl from the world known as Japan."
"I see…Feli's told me a lot about you. How you're the first friend she's ever made, how you saved her from total despair…"
Aw…Feli still has those feelings about me. It's sweet…
"…how your breasts are so big they can be used as punching bags."
I then turned to Feli with a pissed-off look. And she looked away from me in an attempt to ignore this topic.
She knows damn well that I'm gonna bring this up again later…
"All and all…you seem like a good friend, Futaba. I can at least acknowledge that much."
"Floré's just saying that because she wouldn't be friends with Feli now if you didn't change her for the better." Amitie said.
"She's basically grateful for you, Futaba." Lidelle added.
"Wh-What?! Hey! I didn't even say any of that!"
"It's written all over your face, Floré."
"You really oughta be honest with your feelings." Amitie added. "It could get you more friends, you know."
"I-I…wh…wh-whatever." Floré pouted while looking away from us. Also gaining a small blush of embarrassment.
Yep. She's definitely a tsundere…
"A-Anyway…I heard Yu screaming about some "Miracle Book" thing. What is she talking about?"
"Oh, that." I began explaining. "You see, there's this TV show in my world called Mahō Shōjo Suu~ītīpai Monika-chan no Shinpaku-sū Appu no Kiseki no Chiryō-hō. Or known as "Magical Girl Sweetie Pie Monika's Heart-Beating Miracle Cure" in English."
"W-Wait, what was that language you just spoke?"
"Japanese. It's my world's native language."
"I see…"
"Anyway…someone in my world made a fan book called a doujinshi about this TV show and we're going to go check it out."
"And we just invited Yu to tag along." Feli added. "Since she's just as big of a fan as both Futaba and Amitie."
"So, that's what it is…" Floré then went silent for a bit. "…to go to a completely different world so casually like that…you girls sure are carefree."
"Oh? I sense some jealousy in your tone, Floré~. Did this chat spark some interest~? Fufufufu~." Feli said while in "creepy loli" mode.
"H-Huh? Well…it's always been in the back of my mind. With you guys first going to Ringo's world. Then the world inside that book. Then it was the merging with the Tetris world. And then there's the most recent incident with Dream Land…"
Why is going to different worlds so freaking common here?! I thought to myself.
"…I just can't help but get curious about it."
"Hmm…fair enough." Was all Feli said.
"Hey, Floré. Why don't you come with us?" Amitie asked.
"H-Huh?! R-Really?!"
"Wait, what?" Feli and I asked in shock.
"Sure, why not. The more people that are experienced with other-worldly travel, the better. At least in my eyes."
"That's some dangerous logic…" Lidelle said with a sweatdrop.
"Amitie, is that really a good idea?" I asked. "I mean…no offense to you or anything, Floré. But people in my world aren't gonna be fine with a real angel roaming amongst them. Even if it's just for a day."
"If that's your only concern, then I can just hide my wings and halo." Floré said.
"Huh? You can hide them?"
"Of course." Floré then demonstrated by wrapping her wings around her body. Making them turn into a white jacket. And then she removed her halo from her head and placed it on her right arm. Making it turn into a bracelet. "See?"
"Holy crap…how did you do that?" Feli asked.
"It's a technique us angels and dark angels use on a regular basis. We're not allowed to fly during school hours. So, this really comes in handy."
"That's so totally wicked!" Amitie cheered.
"It's like she's a regular human. No traces of her being an angel." Lidelle said.
"Well, okay then." I said with a more confident grin. "If that solves it, then it should be fine for you to tag along, Floré."
"Wow…thank you so much, Futaba. I'm truly grateful for this experience."
"Don't mention it. Amitie's right to some degree. Everyone should have a chance to experience other-worldly travel."
"That's still some dangerous logic…" Lidelle said with another sweatdrop.
"Ah, it should be fine this time around." Feli said. "After all…we're only gonna be there for a day. Nothing crazy can happen in such a small amount of time, right?"
Oh, Feli, you'll be surprised…
Kyoko's POV
"DA DADA DAAAAAAAAAAAAA! IT'S DONE! I'VE SUCCESSFULLY CONVERTED THE FIRST HAPPY GO LILY INTO A FULL-FLEDGED DOUJIN!"
"Woohoo…" Yui, Chinatsu, and Sachiko all cheered unenthusiastically. Not really caring about this at all.
"You guys could at least be more supportive about this."
"How can we when we're tired as hell from having to help you do this?" Yui asked. "It brought back memories of having to help you do those Mirakurun doujin back in middle school."
"Never did I think that drawing would be such a tedious task." Sachiko said. "The fact that I now know everyone's body proportions gives me freaking chills."
"At least you two GOT to draw." Chinatsu complained. "I came all the way to your house while it's freaking cold outside and all I did was sit here and watch. Like, what the hell, Kyoko?"
"C-Come on, Chinatsu. You were a great help." I said. "Your job was to sit there quietly while not touching anything and make sure everything was coming out smoothly. It was the most important job."
"Why do I feel like it wasn't…?"
Okay, the truth is…there was no way in hell I was going to let Chinatsu draw anything. She's total crap at making things and I don't want traumatic nightmares from my own girlfriend…
"P-Point is…with this baby done, I can make copies and sell these to people at the next Comiket!"
"Ugh! Freaking Comiket…" Chinatsu groaned.
"Why are we dealing with that event AGAIN?" Yui complained.
"Wait, what's Comiket?" Sachiko asked.
"It's a semiannual doujinshi convention held over in Ariake. People there can buy fanmade doujinshi based on other franchises made by authors like Kyoko."
"It's hectic. It's crowded. And it's absolute hell." Chinatsu added.
"I see…"
"You're not really still mad about the last time we went, are you?" I asked. "It was 3 years ago."
"You made me cosplay as Mirakurun the whole freaking day. Of course, I'm still mad."
"But you look just like her." I went silent for a bit. "Well…at least you did at one point. The fact that you now keep your hair in a ponytail makes you look SUPER different from her."
"*groan* Was Mirakurun the only reason why you fell in love with me?"
"Wh-What?! No! Of course not!" I yelled before holding Chinatsu in my arms in a cuddling manner. "I fell in love with you because you helped me during a time in which I thought my heart was shattering. I'm grateful for you coming into my life and I'll love you for all eternity! Don't you EVER forget that!"
"K-Kyoko…" Chinatsu gained a teary-eyed face as she looked dead-on at me. "*sniff* Y-You're right, I'm sorry. I never should've doubted your love for me. You're not your 2nd personality anymore and I'll always remember that."
"Thank you. My little China-chi."
…
…
…
"Man…Akari was right. You two do shove your relationship into every story nowadays."
"W-Way to kill the mood, Sachiko!" We both yelled at her.
"*clears throat* Anyway…" Yui took over. "…what made you interested in going to Comiket again all of a sudden, Kyoko? You stopped when you quit doing Mirakurun doujin, didn't you?"
"Yeah, I did. But this really was my uncle's idea."
"Your uncle…he's the CEO of Yamabuki Works Co., right?" Sachiko asked. "The one that Rukia girl never shuts up about."
"Yeah…that's the one." I gained a sweatdrop.
My cousin really never does shut up about it…
"A-Anyway…my uncle had this idea that if I made an official doujin of Happy Go Lily, then more people would gain interest in the light novel and sales would grow even more. So, he asked me to do this."
"He does know that doujin tend to be Not Safe For Work, right?" Yui asked. "You didn't draw any of us having sex, did you?"
"W-Well, you're not having sex. B-But…"
"*sigh* I knew something was off when you asked for all of our three sizes last week."
"The body proportions have to be accurate, okay? There are people who are real sticklers about stuff like that."
"Ugh…if that was the case, then I should've lied." Chinatsu said. "Give me an actual glimpse of what having a big chest is like instead of begging Chiharu to bathe with me."
"I feel sorry for Chiharu…" I gained a sweatdrop.
"This Comiket thing sounds like something only an idiot would go to." Sachiko said.
"Well, I'm gonna need help moving all of the boxes of doujin all the way to Ariake." I said. "So, you guys are my idiots."
"*sigh* So, I'm going to Comiket again…" Yui said with an exasperated tone.
"Ugh! I don't wanna deal with that crap again!" Chinatsu whined.
"Honestly…you two are making it sound more hectic than it already is. I mean, I don't remember Akari complaining about it."
"You shoved Akari in a Ganbō costume and forgot she was even there." Yui said.
"D-Did I?" I gained a sweatdrop.
I really was an ass back then with my second personality…
"W-Well, maybe her perception of it changed over ther years. Hey, Akari. You wanna go to Comiket?"
"Magical Miracle…"
"Particle Requiem…"
"Hyperkinetic…"
"Kawaii Blast Shot of MIRACLES!"
*BOOM*
"Gaaaah…"
"*giggle* Yeah! Another monster defeated! Thanks for helping me out, fellow magical girls and boys! Let's keep going until no more monsters exist! Cutie!"
"Cutie!"
Meanwhile, Akari wasn't even listening to the conversation. She, Hiro, and oddly enough Ayano were sitting in front of the living room TV watching an anime that the three of them seem to like. According to them, it's about a girl who gains magical girl powers and uses them to battle evil monsters created by a mysterious company. All while trying to live a normal school life.
And, also according to them, the name of this anime is…Mahō Shōjo Suu~ītīpai Monika-chan no Shinpaku-sū Appu no Kiseki no Chiryō-hō. Translated to English as: Magical Girl Sweetie Pie Monika's Heart-Beating Miracle Cure.
…
I may be into weird things like Rum Raisin ice cream and tomato onesies. But that is the most RIDICULOUS name for an anime I've ever heard.
"Aw, man…even though it was a rerun, I finally got to watch the Miracle Cure Anniversary Special." Ayano said. "You guys were right about it being so exhilarating."
"See? We told you it was worth not spoiling yourself on the internet." Akari said. "Especially since it had the return of Erica-chan!"
"To have all three magical girls teaming up to fight against the Demon Lord…who has been secretly helping the STC Foundation from behind the scenes this whole time…it was a once-in-a-lifetime sight!" Hiro said.
"Easily the best set of episodes I've ever watched! Miracle Cure for life!"
"CUTIE!" All three of them then cheered while holding up a piece sign. Seemingly the catchphrase of this anime.
Those three really are crazy for this show…
"Uh…hey, guys." I called out to them.
"Huh? Oh, hey…you guys done with the Happy Go Lily doujin?" Akari asked.
"Yeah, we've BEEN done. No thanks to you three."
"Well, sorry. They were finally showing a rerun of the Miracle Cure Anniversary Special and it was Ayano's first time seeing it."
"We wanted to see her reactions to it live and in person." Hiro added.
"Did you three really only come here just to watch anime on my TV?"
"No, of course not." Ayano said. "We DEFINITELY would've helped you, Kyoko…but then again, I'm not that much of a drawer, so…"
"Me neither." Akari said. "Kinda hard to draw when you only have one eye."
"And I was never good at it, to begin with." Hiro said.
"But you draw doujin with Aoi all the time in the Doujin Clu…"
*BONK*
"Ow!" Sachiko yelled after Hiro threw a shoe at her.
"I don't know what she's talking about."
"Ugh…" I groaned in exasperation.
"You know…I'm highly shocked that you're so into this anime, Ayano." Yui said. "Totally not something I'd expect from you."
"W-Well…I have been getting rather stressed out lately. From volleyball practice and school work…plus, there's keeping this curse under control. Especially after the raspberry incident."
"I said I was sorry…" Akari whined.
"That was when Akari and Hiro told me about this anime and well…I got totally hooked. And having friends who share the same interest really helps, too."
"I see…"
"The show is really REALLY good." Akari said. "Even better than Mirakurun."
"Wh-What?!" I yelled in shock. "No you didn't just say that!"
"I said it. I meant it. And I'm not taking it back."
"Oh, snap!" Sachiko yelled out.
"Why do you care?" Chinatsu asked. "I thought you moved on from Mirakurun.
"I did. But I still watch it from time to time. Even though it has some fault as to what happened that day, it's still a part of my childhood. I can't just COMPLETELY erase it."
"Yeah…fair point."
"So, what's so great about this Miracle Cure show anyway?" I then asked the fangirl trio. "From just reading the plot, it sounds like your basic everyday magical girl anime."
"The main character tries to manage being a magical girl AND a normal school girl." Akari said.
"Literally all of them do that."
"She fights against an evil group bent on taking over the world." Ayano said.
"They all do that, too."
"She has a catchy catchphrase that everyone enjoys. Cutie!" Hiro cheered with a peace sign.
"I'm still not seeing the difference here…" I gained a sweatdrop.
"Well, do any of the others have rumors going around claiming that the magic they use is real?"
"What?" We all looked at Akari, who had a smug-looking grin on her face.
"It's true. Ever since Monica-chan started, people have started to notice a bit of a change to the magic there compared to the predecessor."
"There's a predecessor?" Yui asked. "What's it called?"
"Mahō Shōjo Kyūtīpai Erika-chan's Doki Doki Kiseki no Chiryō-hō. Known in English as: Magical Girl Cutie Pie Erica's Heart-Throbbing Miracle Cure."
"I-I see…"
"Does every magical girl anime have such ridiculous names?" Sachiko asked as both she and Yui gained sweatdrops.
"Anyway…rumors started mid-season about the magical spells being real. And the rumors were backed-up even more during the summer. During the live taping of the Anniversary Special's third part."
"You mean that studio attack, right?" Ayano asked.
"Studio attack?" Yui, Chinatsu, Sachiko, and I asked immediately after.
"Back in August, there was an attack at the studio in Toyama where they had a live audience for the Anniversary finale. They said an evil yōkai named Ridel Honnari woke up after centuries of sleep and attacked the studio. Even killed one of the actors."
"Damn…" Sachiko said. "…and the show's still going after that?"
"It only brought more fans." Hiro said. "And the rumors got even bigger, too. With the biggest one being that this Ridel yōkai was defeated because the people that stopped it used some kind of technique called Puyo Puyo."
"Puyo Puyo? What even is that?" Chinatsu asked.
"Not much is known about it. The only thing backing this rumor up is this picture someone posted a few days after the attack." Hiro then pulled out her phone and showed us a grainy picture of what looked like…a green blob with big eyes. Completely engulfed in a shadowy black flare.
It was super creepy to look at. But honestly…it was also intriguing.
"Whether or not this rumor is actually true, nobody really knows." Akari said. "But if it does end up being true…if magic like that can truly exist…I can finally be like my idol Erica-chan!"
"And I can be like Monica-chan!" Hiro cheered.
"So, I'm gonna be Nadoka-chan?" Ayano asked.
"Well, you two do share some similarities, Ayano." Akari said. "Your powers are kinda similar to Nadoka-chan's."
"And there's the tsundere personality." Hiro added.
"Wh-Wha…I-I am NOT a tsundere! I dropped that trait years ago!"
"No, you didn't." Chinastu and Yui said in exasperated tones.
Magical powers gained from a game with big-eyed jelly blobs…it sounds absurd. But such a thing would be pretty freaking cool if it did end up being real. Plus, it could serve as great inspiration for Happy Go Lily.
I want to know more…but I don't know any of these actresses' names. And I can't just go and ask them face-to-face anywhere…
"Who started this rumor, anyway?" Yui asked.
"Well…you can't really trace a rumor." Akari said. "But some people actually believe that there's one person that knows the whole truth to it all. Due to this person being the one who posted that photo."
"Is that so?"
"It was taken down shortly after…" Hiro said. "…but you know how the internet works. It had already blown up by then."
"Who posted it?" I asked.
"The Twitter account it came from was completely deleted. But I remember someone mentioning that it was a girl named Rin Sugihara."
"R-Rin Sugihara? Are you serious?" Chinatsu asked with a shocked tone.
"Yeah, why? You know her?"
"That's my cousin. She lives in Toyama and is a HUGE fan of the Miracle Cure series."
"Your cousin?" The rest of us asked in shock.
Didn't think that Chinatsu would have a cousin. I thought it was just her and Tomoko because of…THAT backstory she told me…
"I've been wondering why she just deleted her Twitter account out of nowhere. If it's really because of these rumors and that picture…"
"Well, call her and find out for yourself." Hiro said.
"Why? We're not that close to each other. Last I spoke to her was a year ago."
"B-But don't you want to know where these rumors come from?" Ayano asked.
"No. Not really. I don't care about Miracle Cure and I certainly don't care about magic."
"Wow, Chinatsu. Who crushed your dreams?" Sachiko asked.
"D-Don't say it like that! I just never believed in magic. Even as a child."
"Huh…that's actually unexpected of you." Yui said.
"Especially when you used to talk about romance nonstop like a love-obsessed nutcase." Hiro added.
"She still is a love-obsessed nutcase."
"Wh-Why is this coming from my GIRLFRIEND of all people?!" Chinatsu yelled at me.
Because it's true…
"Ugh! Whatever! I'm still not interested in these rumors. And I don't feel like talking to my cousin after this much of a…"
"Shh! Guys! It's ringing!"
"Huh? W-Wait…Akari! How the hell did you get my phone?!"
"Easy. I used what was left of my "lack of presence" trait to steal it from you while you were talking. It was super useful when I would steal money from you three while you forgot about me."
"You did what now?" Chinatsu, Yui, and I each grew a pissed-off look.
"I don't remember Akari ever being this bold…" Hiro said.
"Yeah…she's been like that." Sachiko said. "Probably first started back when she met Akemi."
"Hard to believe she would learn anything from HER…" Ayano said with a sweatdrop.
"Hello?" We suddenly heard a voice coming from Chinatsu's phone.
"Hi there. Is this Rin Sugihara?" Akari asked.
"Yeah…who is this? How did you get my number?"
"My name's Akari Akaza. I'm friends with your cousin Chinatsu."
"Chinatsu? Huh…haven't heard from her in a while. So, if you're her friend, then why are you calling me?"
"Oh, that's easy. I just wanted to ask you some questions about the picture you posted on Twitter."
"*sigh* Again with this? Look, you may be friends with my cousin. But just like how I told others before you, there's nothing to talk about. It's just a picture."
""Just a picture" my ass! That blobby thing totally had Nadoka-chan's magical aura around it! That has to be real, right?! How did someone like you get a close-up photo of something THAT phenomenal?!"
"Ugh! This is already getting annoying. I'm hanging up now. Please don't call again."
"Aw, come on~! What if I trade you for something?!"
"No, I don't want your nudes to sell on the internet. To think some of you would even resort to that…"
"W-Wait, what?"
"Akari, just give me the phone!" Chinatsu yelled as she grabbed her phone back. "H…Hey, Rin. Long time no talk. I guess."
"Chinatsu…are you really calling me after a year because of a rumor on the internet?"
"H-Hey, I don't care about the rumors or the show they came from. But my friends do a lot and they're the ones that led it this far."
"*sigh* And here I thought I was done with these random calls for info…"
"Though, I am curious…why did you delete your Twitter account so suddenly? Was the picture really THAT bad?"
"Well…look, I really can't tell you. Or anyone else, for that matter. But…if you want to hear it from the actress's mouths, I COULD arrange a meeting for you."
"You know the actresses?"
"WHAT?!" Akari, Hiro, and Ayano shouted in pure shock.
"Yeah…they're good friends of mine. They said something about going to Comiket this weekend to check out a doujin someone made of the show. You could meet them there."
"Comiket…well, we were already gonna go there, anyway. Killing two birds with one stone, I guess."
"Well, alright then. I'll give them a call and…h-hey, you two! Don't touch that! P-Put that down! W-Wait, don't shake…"
*BOOM*
…
…
…
"*cough* *cough* I-I'll…just text it to ya." This was the last thing we heard from Chinatsu's cousin before she hung up the phone. Not really explaining what that sudden explosion was.
"She's an aspiring chemist." Chinatsu said. "I'm guessing her younger siblings got a hold of one of her chemicals and made the whole thing explode. A common thing, really."
"Oh…" We all said.
She reminds me of Nishigaki, in a way…
"Anyway…you guys better be grateful. Letting this nonsense get that far…and even worse, I still have to go to Comiket."
"W-Wait, we're going to Comiket?" Akari asked.
"That was the whole reason why I needed help making this doujin." I said.
"Ugh…not Comiket. If I would've known about that, then I would've watched the special at my house."
"You freaking had cable this whole time?! Then why did you hog MY TV to watch it?!"
…
…
…
"Because you invited us." The fangirl trio said with nonchalant smirks.
I should've saw that coming…
"Ugh…I'm so done. I'm gonna go order some food." I got up from the floor and went to go grab my phone from my room. Leaving everyone else busy with some conversation. Once I did, I started texting Cheo a message that had me in giggles. And it was starting to get difficult for me to keep it in much longer.
"Watch me, girl! I'm about to expose ALL of Miracle Cure's secrets! I'll be famous by Monday morning! Hahahahaha!"
Author's Note: A new year, a new story! And this one has been something I've been wanting to do for…years. A crossover fic between Puyo Puyo and Yuru Yuri was always in my mind. But I didn't know how to write it out and I was worried about how people would take it. I mean…both are pretty obscure series in their respective categories. But even then, I still had some doubts.
After REALLY thinking about it, I finally decided to go for it. And based this one on two series being worked on.
The "Life of Feli" series for Puyo Puyo. And the "Inner Struggles" series for Yuru Yuri.
Will this story be canon to the two series? Maybe. Maybe not. I haven't decided yet. Probably give a definitive answer at the end of the story.
Hope you guys like this one. I've been holding back on it for years and…honestly…I don't want to end up regretting it.
Thanks for reading. Later.
