Jon-El could feel the whole universe and the space around him crumbling and vanishing… So this is it! It was his destiny to die! To end his life in despair. Because he was not fitting in a family of Superpeople. Jon was sure… in a few moments he will vanish into nothing… Wondering what expects him in the hereafter. If he goes, there? What about the hell? Suicide is a sin!
His whole life was flashing in front of his eyes but also all around him. His both lives! The live he had in Boston and later in Argo! And the live he had with his real family in Metropolis and later in Smallville. Jon saw that not everything was bad… it just went downward after some serious mistakes… of him, of his family, of the wrong people he trusted, of the wrong people his father called friends…
Jon was mentally preparing for everything. But it was a huge surprise for him when he opened his eyes and found himself in a soft, comfy bed in a bright modern bedroom. His bedroom! In Argo City!
"Look he is waking up!" someone said in Kryptonese.
Jon opened his eyes and looked into the concerned faces of his relatives: Kara, Zor-El and Alura! He was back in his room in Argo. Feeling something cold and wet on his head, while laying in pajamas in his bed.
"What the hell is going on here?" Jon said shocked in English.
"Jon-El, how are you?" Kara asked concerned, switching the conversation back to Kryptonese.
Jon was confused. How did he get back here? How did he survive?
"What happened?"
"You suddenly got high fewer after we watched the latest footage from Earth. You were sleeping since them. You had intense fewer; you were hallucinating! You have to take it easy! You are still weak!" Alura told calmly but also full of worry.
"How is this possible?" Jon said and turned his head towards the window to see if it was really true.
Against his relatives' protests, he lifted from the bed to walk to the window and see it with his own eyes. He was back! He could feel the cozy red sun on his skin again.
"Jon-El, my dear nephew! Please, you have to take it easy. Your fever was intense and you need to recover." Alura said.
"What happened? I…" Jon said before his eyes met the clock…
He was used to the Kryptonian time-system by now. And a look on the clock revealed that it was the same time, he was supposed to be on Earth, now! But he was here.
"Jon, are you okay?" Kara asked patiently.
"I… how long did I sleep?" Jon asked. He looked down on himself and saw that he was wearing a white pajama with the House-of-El crest. "And how did I get back to Argo?"
"You arrived here four years ago in a pod!" Zor-El answered.
"But I was on Earth, my pod's energy core destroyed Chisinau, I flew over Lake Yellowstone, I saw Uncle Tal in London and I… and I…"
"Jon, what you are talking about! You never left Argo! You saw the footage of your father and you collapsed…" Kara explained.
Jon looked out of the window again and wondered again. Was everything just a dream? Was his overhasty departure to Earth, his reunion with Tal and the meeting with his family just imagined? But Lois Lane? Nattie? His doppelgangers? Was everything just a bad dream?
"Jon? You should rest!" Zor-El said.
"I never went to Earth?" Jon asked in disbelief.
"You wanted to! But due to your fever you never arrived the lab!" Kara said, embracing Jon in a hug. "Go to bed again! We talk about it when you feel better! We travel to Earth one day all together! Don't worry! But now you have to recover first!"
After that, Kara and her parents left the room to give Jon some space. And Jon was just confused. But maybe this was his true destiny? To be supposed to live and study here in Argo! To be a part of the House of El and live his life!
A careful smile appeared on Jon's face when he thought about the possibility that destiny gave him a second chance to live. To reach something! To grow on it and to not let it destroy him like it did with his doppelgangers or his alternate self!
Jon turned around in his bed, now facing the wall and suddenly spotted something…
Jon knew every device in his room. All the holographs and crystals he used to create pictures of Earth or his own inventions. Jon lifts from the bed again, walked over to the shelve and took the new foreign crystal. Jon then walked over to his lounge chair, that he used as desk, too and inserted it to see what was saved on this crystal. And what he saw was a huge surprise…
Everything on the crystal was in English. Newspaper-articles and TV-reports about him! Or better, the scandal his suicide-caused on Earth? Mixed with disgracing articles about his father, his brother and his grandfather…
'Superman abandons son for being powerless'
'Scandal: Superman the house-tyrant'
'What he has done to deserve this: He got not powers earlier!'
'Superboy gets powers taken away: Shame for the house of El, says Superman's mother!'
'For the greater good: The real reason for General Lane's behavior.'
'Smallville football-coach arrested for abuse.'
'America's worst town: How Smallville turned Superman into a Monster.'
And a lot of other disturbing articles.
"What? Did he… Interdimensional-discrepancies… aww… the reality was changed…" Jon realized.
It was obvious: Their reality had changed. When this world got reset, their past was changed. Somehow his past and the original past got blended. While looking through the articles and the footage, Jon realized that his both lives somehow collided and that in this new reality on Earth, his father got disgraced, his brother lost his powers, and his mother divorced them for everything they did to him.
"That's what the other Superman meant when he said, his world got blended with another one!" Jon realized.
He had no memories on the bad things, he read in those articles. Just the good ones he had with his life. Which was a good thing. Suddenly he found an old article about the trial of his father… together with an interview.
'…I made mistakes! Terrible ones! Unforgivable ones! If I could turn back time I would undo everything and make it better. Jonathan was a good boy. Reliable, friendly, good and full of potential. He deserved better! And I failed him! And I say… I am so terribly sorry! And I beg for forgiveness!...'
Jon read the full interview ever and ever again and realized that he was right. But also, that he was right were he should be: With people who believe in him! With people who love him! Who trust him and who support him!
Jon took the crystal out and put it back in the shelve to forget it… right now he was just glad that he was home! And his home is Argo! With that in mind, Jon left the room to hug his family… telling them how happy he is to be with them here, in his home!
On Earth-AU…
Connor travelled to Juneau and successfully launched his foundation. Living on to be the local hero of his chosen hometown, without using his powers. Eagerly awaiting the birth of his daughter.
And on Earth-TUD25…
Jonathan continued working on the firehouse. It was obvious that his parents could remember everything. But Jonathan was too embarrassed to admit it. His family meanwhile wanted to make things better from now… especially Sam, but he shouldn't get a chance to…
Meanwhile on Earth-Prime…
After witnessing the terrible fates of his doppelganger's Jonathans, Earth-Prime-Clark was determined to make it better to his own, too.
After they were sure that every Jonathan was on the way to a better live, that Jon-El really survived and that the device really got destroyed properly to prevent another antimatter-crisis for good, the Kents prepared for the big reveal.
Lois took Jonathan and Jordan for a spontaneous trip to the farm, while Clark handled everything with the other worlds. Martha took care of the boys as long as they prepared everything, and Kara went back to inform all the other Superheroes about the recent events.
And finally, the big moment came: They were all together on the porch of the farm. A farm that looked much better and much more inviting than the one on the other Earths. They do it here and now! Their way! And because they want to do it! Not a forced reveal like on the other Earths, the boys being younger and Clark more open to both of them. One day he will tell them what let them to confess everything today. But that can wait until the boys are able to understand it. For now, he had to focus on the big one…
"Boys, I guess you wonder why we came here so rushed?" Clarks said. He and Lois were standing on the porch. The boys were sitting on the swing bench and Martha not far away on a wicker chair. Watching them eagerly. She warned Lois and Clark before that if they ever do that what their doppelgangers did on their respective Earths, that she will never forgive them. And Martha was the last person, Clark wanted to hurt.
"Is something wrong?" Earth-Prime-Jonathan, 11-years-old, asked a bit worried.
"No! Everything is fine! But, it is about this… dream you had a couple of days ago! And some other things we recently figured out!" Clark explained. Suddenly realizing how itchy the suit under his street-clothes became. "And there were some developments, that let me and your mother realize, that we have to tell you something. Something that is affecting you, too!"
"Your father and I thought about it very long! We were not sure when we should tell you! Or how?"
"Oh… are you two divorcing?" Jordan asked now very worried.
"What? No! No no no! Never! Your mother and I are a team! And we will always be!" Clark said while he and Lois looked on each other like a couple that was just newly fell in love. "And as long as I don't do that barn-scene, it will always be!"
"Barn-scene?" the boys asked confused.
"We explain you that later!" Lois said. "Boys, we love you! You two mean everything for us. And you deserve to know the truth!"
"Before we start, I want to say that the reason we hadn't told you earlier was to protect you and to make sure that you are not bothering yourself." Clark explained.
So, this is it, Lois and Clark thought and looked on each other one final time! If the latest events taught them one thing, it is to be fully honest to the boys, always treat them equally and don't allow Kryptonian powers, or an overhasty move, or criminal football players, or anything else tearing them apart. Clark loved his boys so deeply. And he knew he wouldn't bear the pain if one of them leaves because he feels unloved.
The good thing was: They could make the reveal their way! Not forced, or rushed, or under pressure! Here they were safe and calm.
"Okay… Boys we are going to fill you in with a big secret today! A secret just a few chosen ones know so far. And it is time for you to know the truth, too!"
Clark took a deep breath and mentally prepared for it. He and Lois rehearsed it years ago. But it was something entirely different when it is actually happening. Before Clark took of his glasses, he tried to find the right words again.
"Boys, you remember that we always told you to not to go into the storm-cellar under the barn. There was a reason for it! Not that it is dangerous. But something else is there. Something we didn't want you to see! But today we will show you! After… we are done here!"
"What is it?" Jonathan asked.
Clark took a deep breath again before he answered: "A spaceship!"
That answer caused both boys to look on him with big eyes and in disbelieve.
"A what?" both boys answered confused.
"A spaceship!" Clark repeated. "This spaceship… brought me to Earth! After the planet I was born on, Krypton, got destroyed! I… I crashed right into the field over there. Your grandparents found me and raised me! But because I was born on Krypton… I developed certain powers… here on Earth…"
The boys glared on their father with big eyes. At first not believing what their father just said.
"Krypton?" the boys asked both still confused.
"Krypton!" Clark confirmed.
"You… you say you are… Superman?" Jonathan asked.
Clark didn't answer to that verbally. He just took off his classes slowly, handed them to Lois and opened the buttons of his shirt to reveal the suit below…
The boys remained silent for a while, while Clark continued telling them everything. About how we grew up, how their grandmother made his first suit, how he decided to become Superman and about their birth. Of course, he apologized to the boys for not being present as much and that he wanted to change this. By being more present, sharing more with them and introducing them to this part of their unique heritage.
The first shock of the reveal faded quickly. And in fact, that their father decided to tell this to them on his own let the boys forget their anger quickly…
Clark knew he was not always a good father. That his constant absences had negative effects. And he knew he must work hard to show both his sons that they will come always at the first place for him. Seeing his son's doppelgangers made him very wary and reminded him to be always very careful with their feelings.
While they were flying together through the skies and the boys had fun like they had never before in their lives, Clark decided to always take both his sons to the fortress. To introduce both of them to his father. To let them both scanned. And if Jonathan is powerless and only Jordan gets powers, he will at least do everything in his power to don't let Jonathan feel left out and at least tell him the reason for his powerlessness and give him answers. And who knows, maybe he finds a way to give him powers, too. In the fortress, they will figure out everything. Together!
Everything he had to do was to make it not like his doppelgangers. Clark was not going to repeat these mistakes. He will make everything different. And he will be good father… to both his sons…
