Chapter 93. Sisterly.
- She's still not moving? - Lana asked impatiently, glaring at her gothic sister, as what little appetite she could have was quickly vanishing away with the cooling of the food.
She had never been that exigent with any food, but it was clearly not about that.
- She doesn't seem to respond to outside notions, I… don't know what we can do - Lucy admitted while lowering her head in frustration - …Maybe, we could increase the dosage again -
- Absolutely not! - Lisa interjected, more energetically than expected from her - We need to keep the dose as minimum as possible to prevent further emotional blunting! -
- Yeah, you're right Lisa - Lucy understood - Anyway, I'll go feed her -
- Luz - Lily, who was also on the table, barely even looking at her little breakfast, said softly - Let me go with you -
- …Sure - Lucy didn't even feel the need to object, Lily knew what she was doing, perhaps more than the others.
- I'll go too - Lana wouldn't allow herself to be left behind.
And so, the three girls stood up from their awkward sitting in the Loud table, going again to Lola's room to try and wake her up.
Lisa, on the other hand, headed to her room, enclosing herself within the safe, soundproof walls of her lab.
The house had once again fallen into silence, Rita, in particular, was barely seen coming out of her room, as the pressure to answer to police interrogation had taken a toll on her stability, and the presence of media outlets here and there, asking for "clarification" and trying to access her precious daughter to instill rage among the masses towards Lincoln, the "child rapist", made her effectively block access to the house.
It had only been about a day, but she could very well be assaulting Katherine Mulligan if she so much as dared to talk to her again.
A single call to breakfast was all she ever did, the taste would obviously never be as good as… Lynn's, but that would not stop her basic responsibility towards her daughters.
Lunch and dinner, on the other hand, were unfathomable tasks for her at the moment, so she would just ask Lisa to order the food, same thing with basic chores, she just didn't have the energy to do anything else, not even picking up the pieces of junk food laying on her bed.
She trusted her remaining daughters to assist Lola, her own battle against crippling depression rendering her powerless to do anything on that matter, shame overwhelming her entire being.
So much for asking her son to "trust" her…
As for her older girls: Lori called her, insisting on no contact with Lincoln while she "reviewed the evidence", Leni left soon after spending the night with her, current obligations keeping her side-tracked, Luna had to leave as well, leaving only 5 young girls in the house.
3 of which were now sitting at the creaky side of the blonde's bed, who was still laying in fetal position with half closed eyes.
Lana tried first.
- Lols, are you ok? - The tomboy tried to slightly shake her shoulder, making an effort to at least get her to react - Can you… hear me? -
Lola remained motionless.
- Lola, sis, I drew something for you, wanna see? - Lily tried more energetically, hoping to appeal to her sister's curiosity.
But Lola was still unresponsive.
- Lola, here's Mr. Sprinkles, and Eunice, don't you need to… tell them something? - Lucy tried as well, hoping that the presence of her eternal companions would alert her.
But nothing happened.
Lucy realized that it was still pointless to say anything, she simply made a sign for the other two sisters to leave and prepared the spoon to force feed her…
That is, until a knock was heard on the door downstairs.
- Ugh, not again with those pests! - Lana exclaimed, stretching her arms and clenching her fists - You know what? I'll deal with them today - She said, cracking her knuckles.
And without much hesitation, she walked downstairs and kicked the door open, startling the intruder at the other end.
- Wait, Clyde? - Lana's anger receded slightly.
Only to increase again.
- Where the fuck where you dude!? What were you doing? Did you stop Luan? - She said agitatedly while shaking him.
- Ow, woah, Lana stop, we don't want to cause an uproar here, the police are still patrolling the area you know? - Clyde reacted barely, but stood his ground with annoyance.
- Fuck you, I'm not calming down, do you realize how down the drain everything is? Lola doesn't even talk anymore! What did you say to that clown? How fucked is Lincoln? - Lana wasn't having it.
She wanted explanations and she wanted them now!
- Let's.. get inside first, okay? - Clyde whispered softly, making the tomboy consider it, before ultimately accepting and moving aside.
Once the main entrance was closed, Clyde emitted a long sigh, before angrily locking eyes with the altered twin.
- Lana, next time please… try to be a little more subtle, I'm not supposed to be here! -
- Why not? Do you have something to do with the case or what? - Lana questioned, glaring at the man in front of her with clenching fists - …Other than helping the lunatic with even more evidence!? - She accused him, pointing a trembling finger directly at his humanity.
- That's… part of the reason why - Clyde averted his eyes from the angry blonde, lips trembling - She's serious about this and won't drop the charges, she has very compelling evidence as well -
The ebony chef then took the backpack that he was wearing and knelt in the floor, extracting its content.
Lana was rendered speechless.
- …But I just though that this was probably better here than with her - Clyde notified sincerely while passing over a special storybook to the trembling hands of the confused pregnant girl - …Sorry for being late, I needed things to calm down a little so the police does not attempt to confiscate it -
And just like that, the pastry chef was gone, leaving the dazzled tomboy standing still, looking down at the little "secret" that Lola had kept from her all these years, and that her sister Lucy had worked so hard to hide from her.
A wave of pain hit her like a truck, as conflicting feelings of anger and sadness assaulted her head.
But more importantly, a ray of lightning briefly slashed through her, and she could also recognize that feeling.
Hope.
She rushed upstairs.
A bright, green meadow, adorned with flowers and little bunnies running through them, bumping into each other with playful giggles, dancing in a rhythm of joy as the soft wind blew through the area, emanating an aura of peace and prosperity.
It was an open and wide paradise, surrounded on all directions by a tranquil forest, and up in the sky, a deep blue could be seen with the occasional white cloud running through its endless reach, only temporarily covering the sun, which illuminated the area and provided just about the perfect warmth.
Princess DeLola felt herself staring up to said beautiful sky, breathing in the clean air and allowing the little noises of happy critters fill her ears, she felt at peace, she felt good.
And she felt complete, for she knew that her head was resting comfortably in the soft chest of a figure that she knew all too well.
She could also hear his soft breaths, she could feel the beatings of his heart, which were connected to hers, she could fill the protective embrace of his arms surrounding her own chest.
She was laying on the grass with her trusted companion, Captain Triton.
And she was melting in bliss, to finally have a moment of peace with him, without interruptions, or a pending quest, it was just her and her knight, together, forever.
- My princess - The cowboy asked quietly, slightly disturbing the princess.
- Yes, my love~ - The princess answered, still entrenched in bliss.
- Is this… still the thing that you desire the most? - The knight questioned, more seriously than she could have anticipated.
- What are you talking about? Of course it is! - She responded, dumbfounded, what a stupid question indeed!
- …I see - The cowboy answered with melancholy, to the complete bewilderment of the princess.
- Why ask such impertinent questions, my knight? Can't you see this beautiful place? We made it, we deserve this, we are finally here, just the two of us! - DeLola answered with impatience, her knight was slightly getting through her nerves, she decided to remove herself from her comfortable spot to face her knight directly, perhaps seeing the warmth of her stare would remove whatever long face he could be making.
But when she turned around, she noticed a weird change in her partner, for the classic cowboy hat was no longer there, no equipment for that matter, he just wore a bloodstained crown, like that of a renegade arch-duke.
There wasn't a smile either, his eyes were empty, and…
He was transparent.
- My princess, it's just a thought, but… if I could no longer protect you at some point, would you still choose this life? Just the two of us? -
- W-what are you talking about, of course I would! If for some reason, something happened, and you could no longer protect me anymore… then I will be the one to protect you! - The princess declared with unflinching courage.
- But… my princess, how would you do that? - The knight asked, raising an eyebrow.
- Well, with my… magic…? - DeLola remembered that word, and suddenly, something changed in her as well.
She looked down, and her pink dress was no more, replaced by a black veil.
She then looked back to the front, and the meadow had disappeared, replaced by a black void.
She centered her view on her knight.
- I wonder… can magic alone… save me? - The knight managed to get out, but something happened to his semi-transparent silhouette, as it started fading in and out of existence in a glitching pattern.
- Wait, Triton, w-what is happening!? Where are you going? - DeLola panicked, as his frame became harder to distinguish from the void.
- DeLola, my… sorceress, please, think well about what you want to wish for, the quest for the diamonds is… almost, over… - The duke managed to utter his last words.
As he vanished completely.
- …How is she, writing? - Lana stared wildly at her twin, utterly perplexed, she was still lying in fetal position, unwilling to move a single body part.
Except for her hand, which kept tracing words on the notebook that Lucy had decided to just leave close to her reach in the bed.
Lucy herself was scoffing at the scene, incredulous, the universe seemed to not exist to her younger sister, yet she was still writing, intelligibly as well.
Was it then perhaps, accurate, to say that her universe right now… was the story?
Lily did not take her eyes away from what Lola was writing, seeming heavily intent on trying to grasp any meaning from it.
- Guys - At last, Lily alerted her sisters - Think about what she's writing, she wanted Princess DeLola and Captain Triton to be together forever, just the two of them -
- Well, Lil, that's kind of like, not possible right now… - Lana dismissed her train of thought, getting Lincoln out of that situation wouldn't be the easiest task in the world.
- Well, yeah I get that, I'm not that dumb Lana - Lily rolled her eyes, confusing her sisters further - What I'm saying, is that it's something that Princess DeLola wanted -
- Yeah, what about that? - Lana remained confused, eyebrow raised at the youngest.
- …Princess DeLola doesn't exist anymore, DeLola, the "witch" does - Lily lowered her eyes at the thought, but continued pushing her idea.
- And what about it? - Lana asked again, still lost.
- *GASP* of course! - Lucy, however, had an epiphany, as she proceeded to do the unthinkable.
And removed the book from Lola's reach.
- H-hey! What's the big idea, leave that there, it's the closest we've gotten to talking to her! - Lana complained.
But before she could even do anything, she realized…
That Lucy was writing something in it.
Into the story:
"DeLola woke up, surrounded by darkness
The witch stood up, she's trembling and sobbing
The fall was deep, although with no dampness
The well was a test, how real was the falling?
.
Now she's on her own, no sight of the duke
She felt his presence, but now she's alone
Was it just a dream? Was it just a fluke?
Regardless, she's here, she must go on
.
She used her magic, and now she can see
A building that's hollow, as much as its dark
She felt the despair, she can't just proceed
She is fallen astray, her vow a weak bark
.
How could she stand, when there is no point?
Where's her knight whom she swore she'd protect?
And what is that? Which is looking to join?
The shadow of someone, that she could detect
.
Amidst the darkness the figure materialized, she looked at the ex-princess with brooding excepticism, but not soon after, her smile returned, and exalted, she spoke up.
- My princess, I've found you - She expressed solemnly - I'm Dominic Dunkster, remember me? -
.
The sorceress looked up, but didn't react
A ghost from the past, the same sporty gown
With a written apology, she had to enact
So she understands, that she's not on her own
.
And with no more to add, the ghost disappeared
But this time around it would not be to leave
Just a few minutes later, she calmly reappeared
She was bringing a friend, who's name meant relief"
Back in the real world.
- Lana, your turn - Done with her "part", Lucy passed the notebook and the pen to the other twin, who kept looking at her with complete disbelief.
- What? But, this story is… their thing Luz, we don't play a role in it! - Lana nervously pointed out, her sister's action bewildered her, not in a billion years she would have though on actually writing on that thing - And besides… I'm not that good of a writer - She looked to the side, ashamed, blaming her incomplete education for it.
- Lana, who was DeLola's second most loyal companion in the original story? - Lucy made a simple, if tricky question, rendering the pregnant girl speechless.
- Well… That was, Ribbon the frog, but… he… disappeared, a-and… he was never there for her in the story… - Lana admitted with extreme guilt, lowering her head in the process.
- Yeah! - Lily jumped to the discussion with urgency - That's exactly why you need to show her that this time around, you WILL be with her! - She said energetically, before lowering her head - We told her… that she could trust us, she made an effort to trust us, and we… betrayed her again… - She collected herself afterwards, looking firmly at the tomboy - So that's why we need to show her that she's not actually alone, she can still trust some of us! -
- … -
- Lana, we have to show her, that it's no longer just about the two of them - Lucy begged at last, making sure that Lana was able to see, perhaps for once in her life, the regretful eyes under her bangs.
And so, filled with a new source of courage, Lana's face turned serious.
And began writing.
Into the story:
"And so, well, you know, from the cloud created by Dominic Dunkster, none other than Ribbon the frog appeared, then, he saw DeLola lying on the ground looking like if she couldn't believe it, and of course, the first thing he did was to reach out to her by offering his hand.
And then he said:
- DeLola, long time no see, what's the matter, you look real gloomy -
And then DeLola turned off her magic or whatever and accepted the lift up, then she said
- What are you doing here? This is a dangerous place! -
But of course, Ribbon did not care, he then proudly presented his inflated belly, which was holding a very special glowing tadpole, you know like how those male sea horses that carry the babies, yeah like that!
And then he said:
- Well, I'm thinking that you can use a stronger light source, come on, let's get out of here -
But then she said:
- I… can't, I'm looking for Triton -
And RIbbon said:
- Well, this area looks dark and creepy, do you have any clue where he might be? -
And then DeLola got all sad, and whispered:
- No, I don't -
Ribbon heard that and he became sad himself, then he remembered all the great times that he spent with her in their first adventure, he just couldn't believe that he didn't try reaching out for his (sis)-friend again, so with a new idea, he talked again:
- Then please DeLola, follow me, wherever we have to go, even if it's through all of this darkness, we will not give up until we find Triton again! -
Also, Ribbon looked back at the ghost that summoned him, and with no fear anymore, he said:
- Hey Dominic, come along with us too! Don't vanish again will ya? -"
Back in the real world.
- … what, I told you guys I'm not that great - Lana raised her hands defensively as Lucy and Lily focused on her part, visibly frowning at it.
Then the girls switched their attention from the book back to her.
- Don't worry sis, it's just weird seeing different writing styles, but it still matters a lot, thanks for trying! - Lily commented quizzically, before leaving the book once again at Lola's reach, making an effort to lift it sideways so that her sister could read the new content.
But then, to her surprise, Lola actually moved her arms, and took a hold of the book herself, apparently trying to read it sideways.
- …Ri…bbon? - At last, after a few minutes, the sisters were pleasantly greeted by the incredibly short and quiet whisper of the teenager in pink.
Lana didn't waste a second.
- Lola! Can you hear me!? - The tomboy got out of the bed and knelt in front of the side of the bed that her twin was facing, hoping to establish any kind of eye contact.
Lola remained focused on the book, simply grabbing the pen with a free hand and writing some more.
Into the story:
"The sorceress realized her situation was surreal, she was being dragged by a figure that she remembered distantly, as well as the ghostly appearance that at one point, assisted her selfish commands.
A frog that once ate a fragment of the crystal that powered her kingdom, which she completely forgot about as she focused exclusively on her new mission, was speaking in friendly terms with her, as if she hadn't abandoned him before, she just couldn't understand why"
Back in the real world.
- Dammit, it's not working Luz - Lana threw her hands after snatching the book away from her and seeing the new content.
- Lana, be patient, try again - Lucy replied calmly, being heavily aware of the fact that the girly twin was showing signs of basic awareness.
- Ugh, fine, I will - Lana spat, frustrated, but unwilling to give up.
Into the story:
"Ribbon then saw that his friend was still lost in a trance, but he was convinced that he could do something, so he approached DeLola and placed his arms on her shoulders, he was serious now, and he said:
- DeLola, please, look at me, your eyes are solely focused in the darkness, please, if you want, look at my belly, there's light in there you know? -
But Ribbon had more things to say:
- I know we haven't truly been there for each other in the past, I know that you left me to go to a faraway planet and I forgive you fully, I can now see what you feel for Triton and I want to help you see him again, I will NEVER LEAVE YOU AGAIN if you want me to stay -
- Please DeLola, talk to me, just talk to me! -"
Back in the real world.
- Lola please, talk to me, look at me, don't get lost again! - A few whispers were being heard, but the girl couldn't be quite sure, her sight was foggy and dark, but she was starting to differentiate some shadows around her from the dark background.
- Please Lols, I'm sorry, I truly am, I don't want to lose you ever again, just, let… me… help you - Her ears were now detecting a whimpering voice, becoming stronger and stronger, at the same time that her vision started acquiring more resolution, but even more importantly, her skin reacted to a weird, wet feeling, if felt like warm droplets falling on her face.
It felt weird, but strangely, good.
Her eyes suddenly flicked, and her sight was recovered.
And the first thing she saw, was the face of her twin sister, Lana Loud, crying on front of her, holding her face with her hands in pure distress.
- L-lana? - She whispered.
- LOLA!? Can you listen to me? Can you see me? - Lana, predictably, grabbed her twins face and forced her to look up.
- Ouch, you're hurting me! - Lola quietly sat up, looking at her twin with an irritated expression, still sunk in confusion.
- LOLA! - And just like that, she felt the mighty tackle of not one, not two, but THREE people, as they all launched themselves at her, covering her body.
- Ok, what the heck!? let me go! - Lola tried to lift herself up, but the weigh of the bodies around her wouldn't let her - What's gotten into you? - She said annoyingly.
- Uh, don't you remember? - Lana asked cautiously, rubbing the back of her head, as she softly removed herself from her.
- Remember what? - Lola sat up, confused at the reunion around her.
- …Uh… the story? - Lana quirked an eyebrow, mildly confused.
- What story? - Lola imitated her gesture, she was not getting her point.
Until.
- Wait, what am I doing here? How long was I here? where's Lincoln!? - A rush of memories finally returned to her, making her violently grab the shirt of the first person in front of her, that being her unfortunate twin, making an expression of intense anger and fear.
- Lols, I… - Lana squinted at the panicked state of her twin, and immediately retracted her face, not quite knowing what to say.
Lucy, however, didn't hesitate.
- Lola, Lincoln is currently being held in custody by the police - She decided to skip straight to the point.
And then, just like that, Lola let go of Lana's sweater, sinking her head into her legs.
- …I knew it - Lola whispered softly between her breaths, sinking her head further - I knew it - She began trembling - I fucking knew it! - She exclaimed, sobbing intensely.
She the straightened her legs and jumped off the bed.
- I KNEW I COULDN'T TRUST ANY OF YOU! - She screamed while attempting to open the door.
Lana saw her actions, and became alarmed, jumping over to hold her hand.
- Wait, Lola! - She detained her enraged twin with as little balance as she had.
But then, Lola turned around, escaping from her grasp.
And directed the strongest punch she has ever given to anyone, directly to her cheek.
Lana's face got misplaced sideways, as a drop of blood descended from her nose, but then, as she saw her twin attempting to leave the room.
She ignored the pain, and both her and Lucy restrained her and dragged her back to the bed.
- Leave me alone you two-faced snakes! It's all your fault! - Lola tried struggling against the strength of her other sisters, flailing her legs around.
- Lola please, listen to us! - Ignoring the pain from the strike, as well as her words - Lana applied more strength to her hold.
- I KNEW IT, I JUST FUCKING KNEW IT, WHY DID I LET YOU FUCKING SNITCHES CONVINCE ME TO DO THIS! - Lola began wrestling to escape, but failing as her strength diminished - WHY WAS I SUCH A FUCKING IDIOT! - Her attempts to escape became less rash, as her muscles began relaxing.
And then, her struggle stopped, as nothing but her endless tears began leaking out of her eyes.
- Why did I force Lincoln to do this? Why did I think this was a good idea? - Her voice began breaking even more in profound pain - Why is it that everything I do only hurts him e-even more? Why is it that everything I try just keeps getting him in trouble? -
At last, the teenager in pink stopped struggling completely, allowing her sisters to let go of the hold they had.
And as soon as she noted that she was not being restrained anymore, Lola turned sideways again and continued crying inconsolably.
Lana, determined to be there for her, sat by her side, attempting to calmly place her hand in her shoulder.
- I said LEAVE ME ALONE! - Lola simply moved to the other side, avoiding the touch, as she continued whimpering to herself.
Lucy repeated Lana's action, sitting on the other side.
- Lola, we already left you alone once, and it didn't go well either - The dark girl stated grimly
Lily also sat in front of the body, unbound by fear.
- We are here for you big sis, you can't push us away anymore - She stated seriously.
And finally, Lana used all of her strength to lift her from her fetal position, to then hold her tight in a hug.
- Lols, we will do everything we can to bring Linc back, we are NOT your enemies, we do NOT stand by anything that Lori said, we do NOT stand by anything that Luan did, we are your family… your REAL family - The tomboy said with a kind, sisterly tone, fully meaning every single one of her words, as the only thing in her mind at the moment…
Was her twin's happiness.
And Lola, still in sensory overload, only responded in kind, by accepting the hug from her twin sister, crying on her shoulder.
She also felt the bodies of her other two sisters surrounding her, filling her with warmth.
A good 5 minutes later, after allowing all of her frustration to be released, Lola finally calmed down and straightened her back to recompose, ending the hug.
She then made the hard decision to look at her twin directly in the eyes, realizing the damage that her wrath had inflicted on her face.
She only felt worse.
- I-I'm sorry Lans, I don't know what came over m-
- I don't want to hear a single apology from you anymore Lola, you didn't do anything wrong, we were the ones that made you believe you and Lincoln were safe here, and we were wrong, DEAD wrong! - Lana interrupted her twin's apology with a serious disposition.
- …Still, I just hit a pregnant girl, not exactly a good look - Lola averted her eyes from her sister, hiding in shame.
- Honestly, I think it was a fair payback, in fact, I think it was about damn time I got what I deserved - Lana added amusedly, sporting a small grin of confidentiality.
- We agreed to move on from that Lans - Lola squinted back at her twin, folding her arms.
- I did Lols, the moment you confronted me back at Liam's, but I always felt that it should have honestly been the other way around, and now, I will never leave your side until we get Linc's ass out of there! -
- Lana… - Lola looked at her twin's decisive expression, lost in thoughts - You… also need to go back, Luan recorded your confession remember? Once that evidence is presented… - She then grabbed her twin by the shoulders - You and Liam will also be in a lot of trouble! -
And Lana just couldn't believe her ears, as Lola continued to show concern for her, even in a situation that should be all about her.
Regardless, she was now dead set in a single goal.
- If that's to be the case… then I'll just tell Liam to leave for his own good, but I'll be here with you Lols, to the bitter end - Lana responded without a trace of doubt.
Lola then felt her arm being grabbed by her somber sister.
- Lola, we are your sisters, and we'll be there for you, on the good, and the bad times - Lucy said with a relaxed smile.
Which made the angsty teenager relax her muscles, taking a small breath and releasing it, before finally, turning back to look at her goth sister.
- …Ok, I'll take your word for it - She finally spoke again, wearing a comforting smile.
- And you can bet your ass that we will help you be back with your Linky - Lily added confidently, not wanting to be left out.
- LILY! - All of her sisters, however, called her out - Language! - Lola said with authority.
- Seriously? We're going to be arguing about that? You do realize you haven't exactly been the most clean mouthed bitches these last days right? - Lily crossed her arms with a bored expression, tired of her "Innocent girl" treatment.
- Oh, ok, you want to be a part of the grown-ups? - Lola rose from the bed and approached her little sister, hand on her hips.
And then, the taller girl crouched a little, and directed a mighty *SLAP* to her little sister's butt.
- OUCH! What was that for? - Lily complained while rubbing her butt cheeks from the impact.
- That's what you get for playing matchmaker with your sister and your brother, dumbass - Lola accused while looking sternly at her, rubbing her hand after the impact - But… thanks Lil, I guess I did need the wake up call - Nonetheless, Lola stood up and replaced her frown with a warm smile.
She then turned to her dark sister, and, likewise, directed another *SLAP* to her, making the goth flinch.
- And THAT, is for kissing my boyfriend! …without my permission~ - She said with sly wink.
- …Ugh, right, sorry about that - Lucy also rubbed the affected area, while lowering her head.
And once again, Lana became frozen in sheer disbelief, Lola wasn't just back up, she was acting just like her old self, despite having just recovered from the most traumatic event in her life, her strength was unrivaled.
And her ability to forgive was even more impressive.
- So, Lola, uh - Lana struggled coming with words, but she still felt like touching that subject again - About Linc - she played with her fingers shyly - We have talked with Lisa about-
- Lans - Lola interrupted her, looking down with a melancholic grin - It's better If we play by the legal system's rules, we need to wait until at least the first hearing to try anything, trust me, as an avid watcher of Prison Pageant Wars, I know nothing good happens if we try to get him out of the station by force -
- B-but, it doesn't matter if they don't catch us… Lisa can send you two to Europe or something so that you don't ever have to be near shitheads like Luan again -
- You know it's not that easy Lana, this is real life, crap like that can get you and Lisa in a lot of trouble - Lola commented seriously - Besides, I don't know why… but, I, think I can wait, at least i'll be with you guys - The ex-pageant girl said warmly, leaving everyone in the room at a shock.
- Lola… - Lana sighed with glistering eyes at her twin, and she was about to say more.
But then, she began feeling rapid, intense waves of pain, as her insides contracted.
- Gah! - The rowdy twin complained, making all of her sisters pay attention to her.
- Lana! What's wrong? - Lola rushed in to hold her twin, as she started spreading her legs.
Then, an unfamiliar wetness started staining the bed.
- Dang it, her water broke, quick! Call Lisa - Lola alerted her other sisters, as they proceeded to rush out of the room.
- We… need to go to the hospital? - Lana said with big effort, holding her belly with unconfined fear.
And Lola thought about it, unsure of what to do.
- We… should, but then, your baby would need to have a birth certificate… and the social workers would ask questions about the father - She place her hand on her chin, trying to come up with something.
And just then, Lisa slammed the door.
- It is a very pertinent observation, Lola, which is why she'll be giving birth in my laboratory, I have all the equipment ready, please, redirect our sister to my room -
Lola and Lucy then assisted Lana to her feet, being careful in handling her body.
- …Lols - Lana whispered between huffs as she was being evacuated.
- hmm? - Lola only muffled an answer, focused on the objective.
- I-I'm sorry - She said, looking down.
- For what? - Lola raised an eyebrow at her rowdy sister.
- I… didn't wanna make this moment about myself - Lana said, ashamedly.
- What are you talking about, you're about to give birth, this exact moment is literally all about you - Lola commented, weirded out at her twin's behavior.
- N-no, it should be all about you, you're the one that got fucked by everyone here, so please, don't play strong now, you're allowed to think of yourself and do what you want right now, don't worry about me -
And then, Lola stopped briefly, slightly halting the operation at hand, as she took a moment to think for herself.
Finally, she turned around to look at her twin, with a strangely nostalgic smile adorning her face.
- I'm doing what I want, and what I want, is to be there for you too Lans - She said confidently - and honestly - She retired eye contact, facing the ceiling - …maybe we should take a break from making things all about myself, for once -
Lana just kept staring at her in complete disbelief, not quite knowing what to say herself.
- Hey - Lola looked back at her twin with a warm smile - Now that I think about it, shouldn't we contact Liam? -
- … He doesn't use technology that much Lols, no way to contact him right now - Lana lowered her eyes with evident sadness, as she was being placed with care on Lisa's surgical bed.
- Well…wouldn't it be sucky if he couldn't be present? - Lola asked her twin with a quizzical smirk, sitting on a chair near the bed.
- …Yeah, but it is what it is, I guess we'll meet up later in secret or something -
- And what about deciding the name? - Lola commented further, never taking away her teasing smirk.
- You're not making this any easier Lola - Lana complained, slightly altered, as she struggled to contain the pain.
- Yeah, you're right, I'm not very good at comforting people - Lola admitted while looking to the side - But… - She then centered her view on the pregnant woman - Thankfully for you, I know how to get shit done - The ex-pageant girl beamed proudly, as she proceeded to use her phone to call someone.
The person in question answered.
- Hey, McBride - Lola spoke from her line - …Yeah yeah I'm ok, whatever, I want to ask you a favor - Lana could only hear the gibberish chatter on the other side - … Nah it's ok, I know you can't contact him, look, I want you to go to the Hunnicutt farm and get Liam on camera, and please be fast, Lana's about to give birth… Nah, he won't shoot you, I already tamed him it's ok… ugh, just hurry up will ya? - Lola said impatiently, before ending the call and hiding the phone.
- Aand done, you're welcome - The teenager in pink announced with pride.
- Lola… - Despite the specific instruction to not move, Lana became overwhelmed with emotion, leaking tears in the process - …Thank you - She said weakly-
Not soon after, she went into labor.
Author's Notes: Welp, I've done it, I've lied to you guys and the synopsis for this fanfiction is actually not that accurate anymore, but I had a feeling some of y'all already knew where this was going, thanks a lot for following the story and commenting about the plot in detail, we are now just a few chapters away from the end! Also, If anyone wants to help me name Liam and Lana's baby, you can comment it on the reviews or PM me.
On a side note, I want to comment of the soft renaissance that the show's had over the recent episodes themed after a Road Trip, I've seen a lot more people talking about it and it fills my heart with joy that there are still so many passionate content creators and fans around, the episodes themselves were really good and managed to recreate the spark that the show had in its earlier seasons, comfy family fun all the way around, and the always entertaining clash of colorful personalities that Lincoln and all of his sisters bring, showing that if the writers try hard enough, they can still bring the community back to its former glory! The only problem is that now I feel guilty for painting Luan as the bad guy, "Doll Day Afternoon" showed us that she's a real sweetheart :( regardless, the show must go on.
Until next time, cheers!
