S2 E21 AU Hometown Hero
AU stories for NCIS episodes. Each is independent from all the others since this is based on the possibility of parallel universes and multiple timelines…. many, many of them. Later on some may seem to follow something that happened in an earlier AU episode story but it's probably coincidence unless I say otherwise in the beginning. Again, these are AU scenes/stories which means a character may die in one story and be alive in the next one. Or it might be a missing scene.
This is a short alternate universe story/scene for season 2, episode 21 Hometown Hero
The original episode aired on May 3, 2005.
May have some dialogue from the episode.

And finally, all mistakes are mine.
"Richfield case file," Kate stated, and then asked, "What was their case?"
DiNozzo told them, "Officer Krieg says Justin Dobbs was a person of interest."
Gibbs added, "Chief Whalen said he was their prime suspect."
Commander Coleman asked, "Who else was a suspect?"
McGee surmised, "I think nobody. They never looked for anyone else."
"That's what I believe," Gibbs told them.
"Who'd they question about that night?" Kate wondered.
"Kids, the parents and Justin Dobbs."
Gibbs was reading. "It says he never changed his story. Not one bit."
DiNozzo reacted to that. "It's unusual to not have even a minor discrepancy."
Kate added, "Unless they're a sociopath or a psychopath."
McGee asked, "How long did they question him? How many times?"
Commander Coleman was reading now. "Eight times. Looks like about 33 hours."
"His account of that night never wavered?" McGee verified.
"No."
"Boss, if he did it, he only had from when it happened until mid morning the next day when they came to get him for questioning. That's not enough time to rehearse his story, to get it down pat, unless it was the truth."
Gibbs looked around at everyone. We're in agreement?"
Gibbs shook a lot of hands at Justin Dobbs' funeral. Word had gotten around that he was the NCIS agent who cleared the petty officer of murder that allowed his silver star to go through. Commander Coleman watched from the sidelines, clearly impressed and amused at how uncomfortable he was receiving praise. He received a salute from the young marine who had accompanied Dobbs body home from Iraq and posed for photos with him. Gibbs didn't do things like that but the guys overseas deserved whatever they wanted and if it was a photo on a phone, he'd do it.
Chief Whalen and Deputy Krieg were both there, clearly feeling guilty for a lot of reasons. Faith saw a flower arrangement from Kathy Webb, the woman who in the same weekend finally had her daughter's remains and lost her husband.
At the office, the team kept busy. At about 9 Abby couldn't stand it any longer and she called Kate to come down. They went into her office so anybody coming into the lab wouldn't overhear them.
"This time we have to keep it totally quiet," Abby told Kate,
"Yes, we do," Kate agreed. "Using comp time is genius."
"Let's look at days right now," Abby started typing on the computer.
"Going during the week will be great. I bet we can get a reservation sooner."
"We worked all weekend, why shouldn't we get some days off for the spa?" Abby replied, keeping back that it had been Gibbs who suggested using comp time and got Director Morrow to approve whichever days the women wanted, up to three. He'd called the Marine Corps Commandant, who was grateful for the work NCIS had done, to get him to talk to his wife about getting them in without it being another six months. No threats, just a loyal customer asking a favor of a private business. He also purchased a spa gift card for them to use so their cancellation fees were covered and they'd have credit towards eye gel and hot stones, both massage enhancements that cost extra, or whatever else they wanted. Gibbs said he'd make it up to them and this was his way but only Abby would know.
End
Thanks for reading.
