Quinn was sitting with her back tight to Santana's front, tanned arms wrapped securely around her abdomen with the connected hands laying idly in her lap, allowing her to fiddle with the fingers that had just pleased her immensely. She was a little chilly and so had dressed herself with the first thing that she could reach, without moving too far from her lover, which just so happened to be Santana's fatigue jacket. Santana had snatched a clean pair of boxers for them both and herself a sports bra from the bedside draw.
They had just spent the last two hours making love and re-discovering each others bodies, as they always did upon Santana's return, and now they were wrapped in their own cocoon of post-coital bliss. However, Quinn was far to excited to share the news she'd received the day prior.
"Hey, lovebug?" She whispered into the silence.
A 'Hmmm' is what she gained in response.
"I have a video that I would like you to watch now, but before we start, I know we usually watch them in order over the time that you're back, but I sort of need you to watch this one now." She rambled nervously.
Santana twisted slightly to get a better angle, but never let go of her Fiancée as she noticed the apprehension in her posture, it was also a huge giveaway when Quinn tightened their hands in her hold, as though scared she'd said the wrong thing and Santana was going to let go.
"Okay baby. Want to grab the laptop?" She questioned, to which Quinn nodded slightly before clambering off the bed to retrieve the laptop from the small desk in their room.
She quickly sat back in her previous position and made herself comfortable whilst they waited patiently and silently for the screen to load. As soon as it did, Quinn quickly pulled up her last entry from the video camera and took a deep breath before pressing play.
Shortly after, her face popped up onto the screen bearing a small, shy smile. Santana noticed immediately that the blonde was wearing her favourite sweater and spotted her discreetly sniffing it before looking up into the screen with her bright hazel eyes.
"Hey lover. God how I miss you. Thankfully we only have one more day. I've missed you more than I ever have before. Maybe it's because we get married next week and I finally get to become Mrs. Lopez." The smile that accompanied her gorgeous face when she says this is something that will never not make Santana smile in the same way, so she quickly kisses Quinn's neck, but stays silent and intently watches the screen before her.
"Maybe it's because we've just been together so long now and I never knew how hard being apart from the one you love could be. But don't worry, I don't blame you and I still love you more and more everyday, that's why I agreed to be your wife." She carried on with a slight chuckle.
"But actually this time I think it's for a whole other reason. I haven't been feeling great these past couple months or so but I just thought that because we haven't been able to speak much and I've been stressed about the final touches for the wedding, that that was all it was ultimately, stress. You know what I'm like, I start to panic about issues that aren't really issues and I second guess everything but anyway, I thought after a couple weeks it would die down but it didn't.
I'm really sorry I didn't tell you about this earlier but I didn't want you to worry because I need you to be focused on you when you're there because I need you to come home. I would never forgive myself if something happened to you because you weren't focused. But anyway, I'm losing track.." The on-screen Quinn nervously took a deep breath before looking back into the camera.
Santana could feel herself beginning to panic and her heart was racing but she didn't want to interrupt the video, she knew her girl and she knew she wanted her to watch this now for a reason.
"I decided that it was probably best for me to go to the doctors, so yesterday I made an appointment and went to see Dr. Thymes 2 hours later. She asked me a load of questions and just like me she thought it was stress related and then she asked me her final question and Tana, that's when it all clicked. She ran one more test and to say I was surprised at the results would be an understatement.."
Santana watched as Quinn pulled a stick out of her hoodie pocket and held it up to the camera, a positive pregnancy test.
She felt tears build and immediately trickle down her face, her attention on the video was lost and she quickly manoeuvred herself in front of her Quinn. She immediately saw teary hazel eyes staring back at her.
"We're having a baby?"
Quinn began to slowly nod her head in response.
"We're having a baby!" She exclaimed a little louder with a slightly bigger smile to accompany it.
Quinn nodded her head a little faster.
"We're having a baby!" She shouted as she tackled Quinn, who rolled onto her back with Santana flush against her, giggling like crazy.
Santana pulled back to look into the eyes of her love, she brushed a piece of blonde hair behind her ear before leaning in for a soft kiss.
"You're carrying my baby." She repeated, as if to really confirm it to herself.
"I'm pregnant with your baby Tana." She reassured, quickly but softly re-connecting their lips.
Once they both came back up for air, they sat up, side by side and Santana pulled Quinn in close by her waist.
"You're happy about this aren't you Q?
"Of course I am. It's everything I've ever wanted baby. A family, with you, it's all I've dreamed of. Why do you ask?" The blonde questions, she turns her head to the side and can see the look on Santana's face that she gets when she's nervous. "Hey," she whispers, gently cupping the brunette's face and turning it towards her own, "Talk to me."
"It's just, I know you wanted to be married and finished with school before we started a family. I don't want you to resent me for this. I want it to be perfect for you."
Quinn can't help but think how cute her fiancée is, so she leans in for a quick peck before speaking again. "Santana, this is perfect. I know it wasn't planned but this is our baby. Me and you made a baby. Us. They're going to be ours. We are going to love them so much. We will be married and I will be done with school by the time they're born. I'm only 4 months, we'll be married in a week and I'll be done with school in 3 months. I love you Santana and I love our baby. This is everything to me."
Quinn watched as Santana visibly relaxed, broad smiles stretching across both of their faces. Quinn was so nervous to share the news, she didn't think that Santana would take it badly, but like she'd said, this was not even remotely planned. She was also quite far in not to have noticed that she was already with child and was glad that she wasn't really a party goer and a drinker. Her and her friends were more of a board games night kind of group. But looking at her Tana right now, she feels silly for feeling that way in the first place. The two of them were meant to raise a family together.
"I can't believe it Quinn. I can't believe that we are going to be parents. Mami and Jesus are going to be so happy! God, I love you so much." The tanned girl exclaimed, leaning back in to kiss her future wife.
When they broke for air, Santana shuffled down so that she was eye-level with Quinn's tummy. She gently caressed her hand over the still non-existent bump before speaking in a hushed tone. "Hey baby bug, I'm your Mami. I just wanted to let you know that although I literally just found out about you, I love you so much and your Mommy also loves you so much. You're going to make us so happy and I promise that we'll do all we can to keep you happy and healthy, forever and always."
The blonde looked down in awe at the woman she loved more than life speaking to her belly, murmuring to their unborn child, it hadn't yet sank in that this was happening. She lovingly ran her hands through the brunette's hair, that she had released from its Military standard confinement, whilst she continued to listen.
"I'll apologise now if you feel like I'm never around much, I have a complicated job but I hope that you'll understand more as you get older. But don't worry, your Mommy will always be here and she has a heart big enough to love you extra for the both of us. I can't explain how happy am I about you baby bug, this is something I didn't know I wanted so bad until your Mommy showed me that positive test. Your Abuela and Tio Blaine are going to be so happy, they will spoil you rotten. So will Tio Kurt and Tia Cedes, you're already so loved and they don't even know about you yet.
You just take it easy on your Mommy okay? I don't like seeing her in pain so please be kind whilst you grow to be big and strong and healthy in there, I love you baby bug." She finished and leant forward to place a gentle kiss near Quinn's navel and when she looked back up, her favourite hazel eyes were swimming with unshed tears and she just smiled back brightly in response.
After that first time, every night before Santana went to sleep, she would talk to her baby bug and it was Quinn's favourite part of the day. She would tell them about her day or something that she loved (her main topic was Quinn, so she would tell them how great their Mommy was) or she sometimes read to them. Quinn could never have imagined that her pregnancy would be like this, and she had only known for 5 days.
They had decided that they would get married before they would tell anyone as they just wanted to enjoy the wedding without being cooed all over about their future bundle of joy.
It is now 2 days before the wedding and Quinn has decided that they are not to see each other now until the ceremony, she had already put a sex ban in place, meaning that after their first 'I'm glad you're home' rendezvous, they had not been intimate again.
Santana wasn't exactly thrilled but knew very well that 'What the bride wants, the bride gets' so was willing to do whatever she could to keep Quinn happy. Also now, with the added pressure of the baby, she was just hoping that Quinn would have no crazy mood swings that would give them away, so for now, she was just trying to avoid any preventable crisis's.
The Latina was currently packing so that she could move into Maribel's apartment until the wedding with Alex, meaning that Mercedes could also come home, as it seemed everybody was familiar with the phrase 'What the bride wants, the bride gets'. She turns around when she hears a slight knock on the door and comes face to face with Alex.
"Hey Lopez, you almost packed?"
"Yeah, nearly there, I'm just swapping out some clothes I've warn for new ones. Quinn was hinting the other day that my clothes no longer smell like me. She basically wants me to wear her favourite clothes that are mine and leave them here for her, without directly asking me. If that makes any sense." She finishes, chuckling at her own rambling.
"It does. But it also puts me off ever wanting to be in a relationship." Alex quips back.
"Don't be silly. Relationships can be amazing. Quinn is easily the best thing that has or will ever happen to me. I just want to make her happy, there go, I leave clothes around that smell like me."
"They just sound like so much hard work, like how do you even have the energy for that, you know?"
Before Santana got to answer, a third voice entered the conversation.
"Energy for what?" Quinn questioned as she sauntered up to Santana, curling an arm around her waist and giving her a quick chaste kiss.
"Alex wants to know how I have the energy for a relationship. She thinks they're too much hard work."
"Oh. Well she's right. They are hard work and we probably have to work 10x harder to maintain ours because most of the time it's long distance. But really, there's only 1 correct answer."
"And what would that be, oh wise one? Please share your secrets with us peasants of love." Alex jabbed cheekily, causing Quinn to playfully roll her eyes and Santana to snicker.
"It all comes down to the fact that loving the right person is like breathing. When you meet the right person, you just know how to love them, in a way that fits you both. Loving Santana is the hardest yet the easiest thing I've ever done, all at the same time. I just know how to love her, she flows through my veins, she invades all of my thoughts, she fills the gaps in my life. But we have to work at it and I have to trust that she'll fight for me, just as much or harder than I'll fight for her. We both have to want it." She explains, as if it's the simplest thing that she will ever have to share. Quinn quickly turns her head towards Santana who is looking at her in the way that usually has them undressing each other faster than the speed of lightning, but instead accepts the series of quick pecks she receives in response.
"You summed that up perfectly baby. I will always fight for you." Santana whispered in response.
Alex could only watch and observe the sparks that were flowing between the couple stood in front of her. She must have heard the story of how they met and re-united as children a hundred times, but it was still unbelievable to see the love and passion that they still shared after being together for so long. She could only wish that maybe, one day, she'd find what they had.
She was brought out of her thoughts by her best friends voice, "Right Al, let's get moving. My baby wants us out of here."
Quinn playfully swatted Santana's bottom, both of them giggling.
"It's true. I want some peace and order back around here. I'll see you in a couple days?"
"I'll be the one waiting at the altar." Santana replied with a wink before leading Alex out of the apartment and towards Mari's.
"So Lopez, I need you to get dressed."
The girls had gotten to Maribel's apartment and ordered a chinese. They'd just finished eating their meals when Alex decided now was the perfect time to put her plan into action.
"Oh yeah, why's that?"
"Well as your best woman, it is half of my job to throw you a bachelorette party, so unless you want to go out in your boxers and a tank top, I suggest you get changed."
Santana gently sighed, "Al, as much as I appreciate this, we cannot have a party with two people."
"That my friend is where you're wrong." Alex replied, just as a knock on the door was heard. "You gonna get that?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.
Santana rolled her eyes as she lifted herself off the couch and dragged herself to the door. However, she was not prepared for her brother to be on the other side. Her face lit up when she saw his broad grin smiling back at her. She pulled him tightly into her and her quickly reciprocated.
It was only when she let go of him that she noticed the stragglers behind him.
"My oh my, guppy face! I never thought I would see you again, how are you?" She exclaimed to the blonde she hadn't seen in years.
"Santana, it's nice to see you never changed. Come here!" And before she had chance to move, she was engulfed by large arms. (But really she was happy to see her old friend.) As the newbie released her, she addressed the final person standing at the back, also giving them a brief hug.
"Hey Jesus! I thought you were on the same shift as Mami tonight."
"Nope, we lied to you. Your better half has also been ambushed with her own bachelorette party so your Mami is over there."
"Wow. Mami really does love Quinn the most, huh? I've already been ditched in favour of my future wife." She joked, leading everyone into the living room.
"So, how about you get them clothes on now Lopez, considering you've just greeted everyone in your boxers." Alex chimed.
"It's nothing they haven't seen before, except maybe Trouty, but I'm sure he's got no complaints." Santana winked. She always did love to play with him as she had her suspicions that he may have had a small crush on her. Anyway, she quickly left the room in order to dress accordingly for leaving the house.
Alex knew Blaine and Jesus from her previous visits, so she quickly hugged them before introducing herself to the newcomer.
"You must be Trouty. I'm Alex." She jested, holding her hand in front of her.
She was rewarded with a short laugh before a response, "Actually, I'm known as Sam. Santana just loves to make fun of my lips."
"I can see why, I mean they are abnormally big."
"As true as that may be, I've never had any complaints." Sam smirked which only make Alex break façade and laugh.
"I like you Sam. We're going to get along just fine."
"Right losers, let's get this party started." Santana shouted.
A few blocks over, Quinn was also under attempted kidnap for her bachelorette party, however, she wasn't giving in so easy. Mercedes, Mari, Kurt, Helen and Elaina were all standing in front of her, trying to get her out of the house. Helen and Elaina are two girls that she had met at college and immediately bonded with. They had also been cheerleaders at school and as they were all in the same course, trying to get the same degree, they had quite a bit in common.
"Come on girl! You need to do this. These are your last two nights of freedom. I bet Santana wasn't this hard to convince." Mercedes huffed towards her best friend.
"Santana isn't having a party. We said that we wouldn't."
"Santana is more than definitely having a party Mija. Jesus is over there right now with her. He just texted that they are headed out." Maribel explained.
Quinn seemed to think it over for a second. She knew that she would need an excuse for not drinking because the two of them just weren't ready to tell everyone about their baby. She hadn't drank properly for years as Santana was still sober. The night of prom when Santana realised that she used alcohol of a coping mechanism, she'd promised Quinn that she would never drink again and she has kept that up until now.
"If we're going out, I am not drinking." She states defiantly.
"But Q.." Helen starts but is quickly cut off.
"Nope. I promised S that I wouldn't drink before the wedding because we all know I can't handle the liquor and I have hangovers for days." She mentally patted herself on the back for devising that excuse as quickly as she did, knowing that they all know that's the truth.
"Okay, fair enough. Let's all get ready then ladies, we have one hell of a night ahead of us." Kurt announced, clapping his hands excitedly.
Even though Quinn was appreciative of what her friends were doing for her, she couldn't help but wish she was wrapped in the arms of her love, snuggled beneath a blanket, listening to Santana talk to their baby. But she knew that to be apart was her own decision and knew that in 2 sleeps, they would be re-united and for that, she couldn't wait.
So with them thoughts, she took herself into their bedroom to get ready to go out.
