Episode 14 - Silence

All was silent after the funerals were held. Toon City held a memorial service for all the fallen heroes from Lakewood and even Black Hat's world, erecting a large stone wall dedicated to them. And at the center of it was Laserblast. His name left Fink speechless, trying to hold back her tears with K.O. by her side watching.

"Fink…I…"

"I know," she interrupted. "You're sorry for my loss. I'm sorry for yours too. I could've done so much better with him…"

K.O. held her, "You did. Believe me. You're the best minion a supervillain could ask for."

Next to them, Carol, trying not to sob along with Mr. Gar faced the mouse as well and finally let it out.

"I should apologize too, Fink."

The rat asked, "What for?"

"For never speaking to you gal to gal. If I knew my husband was raising you, I would've welcomed you with open arms. I know how much he meant to both of us, and…the truth is I never stopped believing in him." She held one arm. "After all the terrible things he's done, or in this case all the things Shadowy's done…he always was a hero in his own sorta conflicted way."

"I always thought being a hero was more or less the same as being a villain, just on different sides. The most evil thing anyone could do to me is leave me in a sewer, but your ex stepped in and saved me. I worshipped him, and he…well…"

"He loved you."

Barely holding back her tears now, Fink finally broke down. She collapsed into Carol's arms and began to sob along with her while Gar and K.O. could do nothing but look. At the headquarters of the Toon Force, the last newly acquired statue was revealed to the masses. One in the shape of Cosma raising her Magisword with a planet on the tip of its blade. The plaque at the bottom reads, "In honor of a villain turned hero."

"Thanks to Venomous and his team, the evildoers affiliated with Black Hat's criminal empire were all detained and are currently being held in the Ghost Zone Prison," Jimmy reported. "P.O.I.N.T. as of now has become a partner company of the Toon Force. And while our initial intentions were to keep everyone in line with the mini-Toon War, we find that it is no longer necessary. Operations will continue as normal."

Neutron ended public communications soon after. Once the services were over, Lakewood carefully rebuilt itself with cooperation from the Toon Force and heroes and villains working as a unit. Potato and Dendy were there overseeing reconstruction while Elodie shook hands with Jimmy and Danny over the acquisition. As promised P.O.I.N.T. would train new recruits and those who showed the most promise would go on to join the Toon Force full-time. Even better, those that remained of the heroes from Black Hat's Earth became members of P.O.I.N.T. as well, hoping to make up for being manipulated so easily by the evildoer.

As life returned to normal, Fink still couldn't shake the absence of her stepfather. Though shortly after the funeral for him, Boxman, and Cosma, Shadowy Fink approached her counterpart with something peculiar. Boxman's office chair. Somehow it survived the explosion of the Voxmore complex, but one of its arms had exposed switches on it. One night, out of curiosity in a private room, Fink clicked one of the nodes, and a projection her size immediately displayed in front of her.

It was Venomou,s albeit an early recording of him as he wore his lab coat and sat in the chair as if it were taped before his meeting with Cosma.

"Hey Fink," he smirked in his message. "If you're the one playing this, your sister gave you the tape, and everyone assumes I'm dead. I'm counting on it so that Boxman and me can lay low while the world, hopefully, recovers from this…Mini-Toon War I wound up starting. By now, we should be in a location unknown to K.O., unknown to everyone. And I'm afraid it's gonna have to stay that way with you as well...indefinitely."

Fink's eyes glistened from hearing him speak. Her ears twitched and she leaned closer to the recording.

"I've made a ton of mistakes. Most of which were directed at you and my boy. I fear that it might have caused irreparable damage to both P.O.I.N.T. and evil development. If the Toon Force isn't already on my tail for the Shadowy business, chances are, Cosma would come after me fairly soon. Better to take a load off everyone's backs if I'm gone, right?"

His visage leaned forward, getting close to Fink as her ears began to tear up.

"You've blossomed so much without me that there's ultimately nothing else I can do for you. You're more than a minion now. You're a master. And masters have no need for their teachers anymore, now do they? Believe me when I say it... I love you. I love my son. I felt I could never treat either of you right by my side. But then again…no parent ever does."

Getting close to the one watching his projection, he smiled and put his arms on his desk.

"Anyway, buck up, young lady. You've got a lot to see out there and so much to do. Don't settle on my old ways. Keep exploring a little and have some fun. And who knows? Maybe you'll make for a better supervillain…or superhero than the ones back home."

He cocked an eyebrow. "Something to show how, oh how should I put this…? How superior you are."

That moment, Fink's frown turned upside down as she rose her head to meet the recording's one last time.

"I'm proud of you, Fink," said Venomous leaning back to his chair. "Take care."

Click

The device in the seat and the Professor's holotape shut down as Fink shed a tear and wrapped her arms around the chair.

Sometimes afterward, she returned to the main section of the fully repaired Irken ship, accompanied by Nanini and Winnie at the bridge. The werewolf's legs were propped up while the native of Planet X finished combing her hair when she overheard Fink walking up to them.

"Didja wanna tell us what was on that thing," she asked the rodent.

Making light of the recording, Fink shrugged, "Eh, it's just Boss telling me I did good. Not really sure if I'm ready to go without him. I'm…kind of a loose cannon."

"Couldn't be any worse than Claws over here."

"HEY, I just like to make art," Winnie retorted. "You ever make a statue out of a man's bones?"

Fink snickered, "Wait, are you joking or…?"

"Nope!"

"Well, that sure makes me feel better about us being roommates."

She sat down next to the pair and crossed her legs looking outside at the starry nebula in front of them. For a moment, she looked on in silence, perhaps in deep thought, while the others joined in enjoying the view. And among the cluster of stars, some of them took the shape of Venomous as Fink knew him.

Boss.

One morning, Carla stepped out of her new cabin in the middle of the beautiful forest of Netherworld. A smokey smell caught her attention and she ran for the source nearby. Anything to feed her curiosity now that she's moved from the outskirts of Lakewood to the distant regions past Elmore. Once she arrived at the smoldering crater recently formed minutes ago, she got on her knees eager to see what was inside, surprised at the familiar outstretched hand sticking out of the rubble. One belonging to Cosma, who began opening her eyes.

The makeshift corridors of the Horde base were large and imposing. Each footstep the three passengers made echoed across the halls, being monitored by the small imp flying from beam to beam at the ceiling. Kitra's ear twitched from hearing them as she brought a cuffed Boah and a second Spinel before the quarters of her leader. Opening the doors and stepping inside, the Gem forced the archer on his knees and Kitra locked onto Hordak's head without a change in her stoic expression. Slowly, her master brought his face up while sat in his high chair, keeping his fingers intertwined.

"Lord Hordak… I'm back."
