Chapter 11
"That's enough!" Andy shouted. She took a breath to compose herself before speaking again. "We're at work. If you're incapable of doing the job, feel free to leave." Andy gestured to the doors. "We are not talking about this right now, got it?"
"Talk about what?" Andy heard Maya ask from behind her.
Andy looked from Maya and the rest of the team to Travis and saw him motion at Vic's hand and before Andy could stop it from happening Maya spoke.
"Oh. You mean their engagement and marriage?" Maya blurted out.
Vic was surprised she outed them, the rest of the group was shocked and Andy was just frozen on the spot.
It's silent for a moment before questions start flying from every direction and Andy starts to feel lightheaded. Vic notices.
"Everyone shut up!" Vic shouted and everyone quickly shut their mouths. Vic kept her eyes on Andy and saw her breathing start to slowly calm and walked over to her. "Andy." Andy was looking down but looked up at Vic. "It's going to be okay. They were all going to find out at some point." Vic said squeezing Andy's hand.
"Can someone tell the rest of us what the hell is going on?" Jack asked.
Vic looks at Andy and when Andy nods Vic starts speaking.
"Andy and I started hanging out a few months ago, just the two of us. We quickly became closer." Vic smiled. "We would go from watching movies together at home to going out to see new ones. We went from going to bars to going dancing and as we got closer to each other we came to realize that our feelings were stronger than just friends would have." Vic tried to explain, watching all of their faces continue to change from shocked to surprised and surprised to whatever weird face some of them were making right now.
"So you two? Are a thing?" Kat and Deja asked, coming down the stairs.
Andy looked up, surprised by their presence. "Okay, Vic and I will answer all of your questions after shift but right now I have two rookies I need to focus on. Duval, Noonan, meet me in my office. I'd like to have a word before you start your shift today. Everyone else, trucks need to be re-stocked." everyone stood still. "NOW" Andy shouted, getting everyone to move.
Andy and Vic wait for everyone to walk away before turning to each other. "Want everyone to come over to ours after shift tonight? Can answer their questions together." Andy suggested.
"Sounds amazing." Vic leans to kiss Andy on the cheek. "We'll just have to go to my place to move my things in the next day we have off then." Andy smiles and nods, agreeing.
"Okay, I gotta go break in Kat and Deja. Have a good shift babe." Andy said, looking around and when she sees that the coast is clear, pulls Vic in for a kiss on the lips and then turns to go into her office.
"Hey, guys," Andy said, smiling. "Sorry for the dramatics that you saw in the reception area. We're normally not like this." Andy told them, moving behind her desk.
"No no. That was pretty entertaining." Deja said and Andy just shook her head.
"Alright, enough about me. You two are going to be shadowing a couple of the lieutenants for the next few shifts and then we'll see where you guys are at."
"Why? We've been firefighters for over a year now." Deja asked, "You've even seen me in action."
"Duval, You're right. I have seen you in action but that was only for a few months. I need to see where you fit best here." Andy told her. "I know you're not a probie anymore but I need the rest of the team to get used to you being on the team." Deja just nods.
"Now, Noonan. How's rice been working out?" Andy laughs, Kat, joining in.
"It's good. It really helped with drills in the academy and definitely helped within the first two years of working at Station 7." Kat smiled. "I'm really glad you and Hughes helped me out and gave me that motivation and let me tag along on that call."
"Of course. We need all the women we can get in SFD."
"I know right," Kat said.
"Now, Noonan, I want you shadowing Bishop and Duval, I want you shadowing Sullivan." Andy looked at Deja. "Sullivan can be a bit of a hardass but don't let him push you around, okay?"
"If he does I'll just bring up #FireZaddy." Deja laughed.
"Maybe don't. I really don't want him to take any anger he still feels over that whole thing on you." Deja nods. "Alright, go talk to Bishop and Sullivan, tell them what I told you and do whatever they tell you, okay?" the younger women nod and turn to walk out of the office. "Have a good shift okay? Let me know if you have any issues." they turn around to smile at Andy and nod once more before opening the office door.
Andy sighed and sat down in her desk chair. She opened her laptop and saw that she had an email from Chief Ross
Captain Herrera,
I need to talk to you about something that's been brought to my attention. I'll be coming by the station around 11 am.
Chief Ross.
Andy felt a panic rise in her. There's no way my aunt told someone already. Andy thought. Andy looked at the time and when she saw it was 10:50 am she sighed. Fuck.
