It was done. She has sent her parents off to another country to keep safe until this war was over. She had caught some Death Eaters by surprise already with their first attempt on her wards. Unlike all her friends who were just turning 17 now, she had been since last year. She took advantage of that to prepare for the inevitable.
They had hugged for awhile before they let her go. She checked their wrist as they walked out the front door. The glamour bracelets they wore were a prototype that were made with string and stones instead of metal. She didn't want them coming off going into the terminals.
She wandered the house adding momentos into her already packed purse. Her and her parents had put more in the purse than expected. They thought of things she didn't. She felt lucky to have them. She hoped she got to see them again.
It had never mattered to her that she was adopted because she had such loving parents. Maybe when this was all over, she would let herself know. For knowledge sake. Maybe know why they gave her up... either way it wouldn't change how lucky she was to have the Grangers.
She sighs as she places the stasis on what was left in the house. It wasn't much. Furniture really. Her room was completely empty.
She had first shuddered at the thought of blood magic but after learning it, realized the way it was described by people was not what it actually was. She was glad she looked as she completed the blood wards on the large property. She pulls out the small vials with her parents blood to mix in. In case she couldn't remove it herself later when they eventually came back. If she didn't survive...
Walking away was hard. She sent her Patronus out to Harry and to Ron each that she had left home and was on her way.
The Order wanted to collect Harry a week before his birthday because of the protection on the house would drop on his birthday. They were sure Voldy would attack when they fell.
Harry didn't want to stay that long though. He felt like a prisoners there. Being locked into his room. Barely fed. Not able to do magic for another 2 months. She heard it all at the end of the school year. Then she smacked him on the back of the head.
He was a wizard. The wand had the trace, not the body. The wand was just to help you guide and control your magic. To help use it. She reminded him he could learn wandless magic. It just took practice. And despite what the Order thinks, he could just walk out the front door. As long as no one saw him, he could slip away entirely getting caught.
The boys had looked sheepish as they realized she was right. Even Ron could slip out the Burrow. He had just turned 17 in March. Take the night bus or learn to apparate. Portkey, floo. Plenty of options. She rolled her eyes at them and sent them to the library.
They had started learning with her as their tutor and when the last days of the school neared, she made copies of the textbooks she wanted them to read. A continuation of what she was teaching them and a book on healing magic. And a book on camping. They looked confused at that one but she reminded them the possiblities of what bring on the run means. They took the books. Promised to read them. Their magic glowed with the promise. It made her proud how much they've grown. She had worked all year to get them to think independently. And to take their parts in responsibility. She didn't want to feel like she was babysitting them when they were hunting for the Horcruxes.
Her musing as she left the neighborhood was her mistake. She wasn't paying attention. Dumbledore appeared before her. His hand was as dark as coal now.
"Miss Granger, where do you think your going?" He tries the disappointed expression on her. Like she did something wrong. Righteous git.
"Just walking to get Pizza around the corner sir," she tells him. What was he doing here? He had been watching her for months now at school. He had thought he properly looked grandfatherly as he was caught staring at few times. His eyes gave it away though. Like right now.
"It might be best for your to walk back home. I'm sure you can have it delivered. We can come get you the day before we collect Harry," she worried she might die this evening. It felt like a stone had dropped on her stomach. There was no way Dumbledore was her to make sure she stayed home. He thought too highly of himself to do such a small job like that. He was not here to protect her and not here to protect her parents.
She pulls out her wand and throws a special blocking hex of her own creation. As it was still new and needed work to lay long she has mere seconds. That wasn't enough to get away from someone like him. She didn't know what was going to happen to her but she wasn't going to let anything happen to her boys. She calls out her Patronus. "Run. Dumbledore bad. Be safe. Don't be stupid, " she sends it to the boys right as the magical barrier breaks.
He sends a hex at her that she blocks with a shield. She can not hold it for very long as he put all his worth into the hexes. This was no light magic.
After consideration, she uses her wandless magic to keep the world up while she slips her wand into the purse. The blood charms on the bag kept it from being opened by anyone not her and the purse could not be pulled off her. The notice me not spell placed on it as well made it easy to cover as he wasn't even paying attention to her actions, just trying to do any kind of damage he could.
She needs to apparate away. He could still follow her but it would delay the attacks and possibly give her a chance to get away. She feels the magic pull at her navel but then it stops. Bloody hell, he must have placed anti-apparation wards alive the neighborhood. She didn't want to ruin into the neighborhood, as the people in these homes were muggle. He was blocked the street out of there.
She seems hexes back at him. Her shields compared to him were nothing. She had no plans to go down without a fight whether he imprisoned her or killed her.
It felt like hours but in the few minutes of dueling, she was growing a bit tired. He wasn't even breaking a sweat. Wasn't he like a hundred?
What a fool she was to not have a backup plan of her own to leaving in secret. She hoped the boys had not been ambushed as well.
He finally got a hit. Pain radiated through her body as she fell. What had she done for him to do this? Was the last thought she had before everything went dark.
