Jade got up and walked to the doors, cautiously pushing one open. Inside was a large closet with plenty of room for her belongings. She smiled in satisfaction as she realized it was a large walk-in closet that looked like a dressing room from a fancy mall she'd seen on TV. All her clothes were already there. She assumed one of the Malfoy elves had brought her things here and smiled again. She grabbed a black shirt that said "Senpai noticed me!"on the front in white letters. Then she picked up a pair of black ripped jeans to wear with the shirt. She then left the closet and entered the door next to it assuming it was a bathroom. Despite being right, she was stunned by how big it was. It seemed large enough to easily hold ten people and still have plenty of space. She looked around in awe at the room's sheer size. She wondered who it was originally built for and why it was so big.
She quickly snapped out of her reverie and headed to the other side of the room. The shower had clear glass surrounding it, and three golden cobra-shaped showerheads with open mouths. Their fangs were missing and Jade realized moments later as she entered the shower, it was because that's where the water came out. Making it look like snakes sprayed venom over her head. Jade giggled at the realization, as she rubbed her body with vanilla rose-scented soap. Then she washed her hair with green apple-scented shampoo. After she was done she got out and dressed in the clothes she'd picked out. It was then that she realized the room was so large because of a bathtub the size of a pool. She brushed her wet hair and teeth after dressing. She admired the tub for a few moments before exiting the bathroom. She smiled with satisfaction, feeling refreshed and ready to start her day.
When she was done she walked back into the closet to grab a pair of socks and put them and her shoes on. She left her room to explore the manor. Jade decided she'd better leave exploring the floor she was on for later as she didn't want to just walk into someone's room without their okay first anyway so when she found the stairs she climbed down them to ground level. She first found the dining room but remembered seeing it from eating in there last night, so moved on to the room across from it, the drawing room. The room was boring to her, with only grey and brown colors. The only thing she found interesting was moving pictures of Malfoys from the past. She looked at the pictures for a few moments before exploring the rest of the house. She left the drawing room and headed down the hallway to see what else was in the house. Soon she left that room and entered another.
This was a sitting room, as the room indicates, with plenty of comfortable seating areas. What threw her off was the girly feel of the room. There were lots of shades of pink, blue, and purple scattered all over the place. This made her feel like she was back at the Greens' house sitting in their living room. So again she walked out.
~timeskip~ an hour
At this point, Jade had wandered in and out of fifteen different rooms, most of them intrigued her by how different they all looked. Now she'd just entered the ballroom. It was large and had plenty of space to move around which she guessed should have been expected from the name of the room itself. She admired the high ceilings and intricate wallpaper details. She was in awe of the room's grandeur. As she looked around, she noticed the large chandelier that hung from the ceiling. The room was decorated with various beautiful things, but the one thing that caught her attention was the grand piano in the center of the room. That was facing the large floor-to-ceiling windows that provided a wonderful view of the gardens and pools. She'd never played on one before.
'But maybe Draco or his father might not mind...' she thought as she reached toward it, aching to touch it.
Jade sat on the bench and ran her fingers gently across each key starting in the middle. After that, she began doing something seemingly random. However, she didn't know it had been charmed so each key hit was heard through each room in the manor. After about fifteen minutes of doing this, she realized what she was doing and briefly stopped.
'How can I play this? I've never played on one before nor watched anyone play... So how can I?' She thought to herself.
When she couldn't answer that question, she thought of a song she really liked and began involuntarily playing it on the piano and singing the song.
Ka-ching by Shania Twain
"We live in a greedy little world...
that teaches every little boy and girl...
to earn as much as they can possibly...
then turn around and spend it foolishly..."
She sang with a sneer on her face as she remembered all the times Mr. or Mrs. Green had told her they couldn't afford something she wanted. However, they bought something they wanted from the very same store and it cost a hell of a lot more than the thing she'd asked for.
"We've created us a credit card mess...
we spend the money that we don't possess...
our religion is to go and blow it all...
so it's shopping every Sunday at the mall..."
'At least I don't have to see their lying faces again.' She thought to herself as she sang.
"All we ever want is more...
a lot more than we had before...
so take me to the nearest store..."
Lucius came down to see who was playing. Draco didn't care to play even though he'd been taught by his mother, who was the only other person who had used this piano since it was gifted to him.
"Can you hear it ring...
it makes you want to sing...
it's such a beautiful thing, ka-ching..."
She sang with a smile as she closed her eyes and let the music guide her.
"Lots of diamond rings...
The happiness it brings...
You'll live like a king...
With lots of money and things..."
Lucius was bewildered by her words and happiness while singing them.
'How could she enjoy such things?' He thought. 'When I met her at her 'parents' house, they didn't look poor... but certainly they weren't wealthy either... so how?'
"When you're broke, go and get a loan...
Take out another mortgage on your home...
Consolidate so you can afford...
To go and spend some more when you get bored..."
She sang as she opened her eyes. She noticed there were at least ten different elves dancing around her. Mr. Malfoy looked at her curiously. A look you wouldn't recognize if you weren't that observant. In that case, you might think he'd glared at her.
"All we ever want is more...
A lot more than we had before...
So take me to the nearest store..."
She smirked at him trying not to laugh because she didn't want to ruin the song.
"Can you hear it ring...
It makes you want to sing...
It's such a beautiful thing, ka-ching..."
He was surprised she didn't stop singing when she noticed she was being watched. His ex-wife didn't like knowing she was heard when she played. He smirked at this girl. She was a puzzle to him and what amused him most was that she was only thirteen.
"Lots of diamond rings...
The happiness it brings...
You'll live like a king...
With lots of money and things..."
She smirked again as she realized there were two candles in front of her on the piano. She got an idea of what to do with them.
"Let's swing..."
She sang as the piano stopped for a moment and raised a hand over the candles. After that, they danced as she played again.
"Dig deeper in your pocket...
Oh...
yeah...
Come on, I know you've got it...
Dig deeper in your wallet...
whoa!"
She sang as the candles slowed to a halt.
"All we ever want is more...
A lot more than we had before...
So take me to the nearest store..."
At this point, Draco walked in smirking at his father.
"Can you hear it ring...
It makes you want to sing...
It's such a beautiful thing, ka-ching!"
Lucius then walked over to where Draco sat and whispered. 'Is this what you meant when you said you wouldn't tell me what you saw her doing?'
Draco nodded. 'Different song and no instruments but yes.' Draco whispered back.
"Lots of diamond rings...
The happiness it brings...
You'll live like a king...
With lots of money and things..."
She smiled happily as she saw Draco talking with his father.
"Can you hear it ring...
It makes you want to sing...
You'll live like a king...
With lots of money and things..."
She sang as her fingers slowed down on the piano keys.
"Ka-ching!"
She smirked as she turned to Draco and his father.
"When did you learn to play the piano?" Draco asked.
"Never." She answered simply.
"I'm sorry, what?" Lucius asked surprised.
"Never... this was the first time I'd played the piano." She told them with a shrug.
Over the next two weeks, Jade spent her time in the manor talking about the music she heard in the muggle world. She also complained about the Greens' actions. Lucius didn't really care for muggles much but apparently liked their music if it was sung by her. He offered to take her to a music club to hear more of it, but Jade declined. She said she'd rather stay in the manor and kept talking about muggle music. Lucius smiled and stayed with her, listening to her stories. He'd tried listening to some of it on her MP3 but realized he didn't care for the music at all. He just liked the way her voice made you feel what she felt while singing. Draco left every other day to spend time with his mother and her new lover during the holidays. At first, he felt guilty about leaving his guest alone but Jade assured him it was okay and he left. In any case, it was Christmas day now and the house was bustling with joyful vibes.
Draco was excited to open his gifts from his father. He also wanted Jade to open a gift he bought her when he was out with his mother a few days ago. Draco knocked excitedly on her bedroom door as she wanted to sleep in.
"Jade wake up..." he shouted through the door.
When there was no response he spoke again.
"If you're not out here in five minutes I'm coming in and dragging you out," he said but before he left he heard her grumble.
'You wouldn't dare.'
'Count on it.' He smirked as he headed downstairs for breakfast.
He smiled to himself, knowing she would never expect him to follow through on his threat. He returned to his room, confident she would be outside when he went back to check. Sure enough, she was already out there, waiting for him with a scowl on her face. Jade walked tiredly down the stairs with a brush in her hand. This was because she had not yet brushed her hair. Lucius who was the first to wake up as usual watched as she sat to his right. Following that, she began brushing her hair with enough care to not rip it out of her head. However, she was still clumsy enough that her hair was now a frizzy mess in its combed state.
After seeing her hair turn out this way, Draco snickered and asked her, "Has hanging out with Granger rubbed off on you, or did you sleep with a lightning bolt in your pillow?"
"Ha. Ha. Very funny Draco, this is your fault."
Lucius raised a brow at this waiting for his son's response.
"My fault? How?" Draco asked with a half-hearted glare at her.
"Well if you hadn't given me a time limit on how fast I had to come down here I could have completed my morning routine. Now you can figure out the rest." She said as she handed the brush to an elf that had been bringing breakfast to the room and asked him to bring it back to her room with a gentle smile.
Draco just sat there trying to figure out what she was talking about, then suddenly he realized she didn't smell like fresh apples.
'Oh, so she didn't shower.' He thought as he cringed at the thought of not showering.
"Oh... um well then just go back up and finish then." He said nervously scratching the back of his head.
"Oh, I will. But I'm eating breakfast first."
'And make you suffer from the knowledge.' She smirked as she ate her breakfast.
Draco sighed, he knew he should have expected that. He watched her eat her breakfast as he walked back to his room. He couldn't help but smile. She really was something else.
~Time skip~ Jade took her shower
Jade had just finished showering and was getting dressed again. When she finished she met Lucius and Draco in the library on the main floor. Lucius told her they'd wait for her to return.
'Why would they wait for me?' She thought as she walked through the manor.
Yes, she knew it was Christmas but she wasn't expecting anything as they weren't her family so they hadn't a reason to gift her with anything. When she finally walked into the Library she noticed instead of books upon books surrounding the room it had been transformed into a room for this particular holiday.
(I'm not describing it fully so just use your own imagination for the room)
However, the room itself isn't what surprised her the most. What surprised her was that the Greengrass sisters were here as were Crabbe, Goyal, and Pansey. She smiled as she walked over to them.
"What are all of you doing here?" she asked.
The question would've sounded rude if she didn't have a smile on her face and in her tone. She hugged each of them except Astoria since she'd never met her previously.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I'm Jade Green. You are?" Jade asked, introducing herself with her hand out to shake the young Greengrass girl.
"I'm Astoria Greengrass." The girl replied timidly shaking her hand in return.
"Father invited them over to join us in unwrapping our gifts," Draco answered like it was an everyday thing.
They all gathered around the tree, eager to open their presents. Astoria was the first to open hers, followed by the others.
Jade frowned. "Wait, did you say 'our gifts'? I'm not family, why-"
"Because while you aren't family you are one of my best friends and that's as good as family to me." He interrupted as he gave her a friendly hug.
Lucius then walked in as they separated.
"Sorry, I'm late. I had to get a few things from my study." He began as he took a seat nearest to the fire, which Jade noticed to be his favorite spot no matter what room he was in.
"Draco, will you please hand out the gifts to everyone?" He asked, but Draco knew it wasn't really a question.
Draco then passed each gift to the person whose name was written on them. Jade, however, hadn't opened a single one until they were all passed out.
When Lucius looked over to her and noticed this he asked, "Miss Green, why haven't you begun to unwrap your gifts?"
"Because I was raised to wait till the one passing them out has started to unwrap theirs, and to open your gift before they have is an act of selfishness and disrespect." She explained which caused everyone else to completely stop unwrapping their gifts and wait for Draco.
Draco looked uncomfortable but opened his gift. Everyone else followed suit, and soon the room was filled with laughter and admiration as they showed each other what they had received. The group then thanked Jade for reminding them of respecting others.
Lucius smirked 'She is intriguing. She follows both muggle and magical traditions without even knowing she's from our world.' He thought to himself.
"Never thought I'd appreciate a muggle custom." He said barely loud enough for her to hear, but she had.
"Well, there's a first for everything, Mr. Malfoy." She said with a smile in a sassy tone.
Lucius was stunned into silence when he remembered Bella saying those exact words to him when she was a teen, after beating him in a duel. Jade watched as Draco opened his first gift from his father. It was a broom, Comet Two Sixty which caused Draco's face to light up before he opened another gift. She opened each of her gifts. She got a coffee mug from Draco. It was black and decorated with silver stars with the phrase "Good friends are like stars. You don't always see them, but you know they're always there..." written in the center. From Daphne, she got a silver bracelet with green writing on the inside that said, 'To the end, you will be my friend'. At each end of the bracelet was an infinity symbol. From Crabbe, she got a simple wine glass that said 'Classy, sassy, and a bit smart assy' on it. This caused her to laugh as she realized it was bought because he had no idea what to get her.
Goyal got her something similar that said 'Life is better with friends'. She smiled at it as she realized she'd made wonderful friends who were very thoughtful and caring even if they don't always show it.
