"We're confused. Omega, you hit me with a pipe." Alpha said as he clutched his head in pained confusion.
"Yeah? Call me Omega again and you'll get some more." She told him angrily.
"Something must have gone wrong with the composite." Alpha muttered as he reached towards the computer.
Echo smashed the computer with her pipe, "Nothing went wrong. Every imprint this Active has ever had is alive and awake in her head right now."
"Then why did you hit me in the head with a pipe?!" He yelled.
"It was handy? And you wanted me to kill myself?!" She yelled back before gesturing to the tied up woman that had been imprinted with her original personality.
"No. I wanted you to kill her!" He argued.
"Her is me. You made that very clear." She said as she moved to stand beside 'Caroline'.
"No. Her is the old you." Alpha said as he pushed himself off the ground, "Try and keep up!"
"I'm way ahead of you. You think we're gods?"
"We're not just humans anymore. We're not multiple personalities. We're many personalities. And one of my personalities happens to be a multiple personality, but that doesn't make me a multiple personality. I'm looking for a little nuance here."
"We're not gods."
"Fine! Übermensch. Nietzsche predicted our rise. Perfected, objective, something new."
"Right. New, superior, people with a little German thrown in. What could possibly go wrong? We're not new. We're not anything. We're not anybody because we're everybody. I mean, I get it. I understand it. I'm experiencing, like, 38 of them right now. But I somehow understand that not one of them is me. I can slip into one. Actually, it slips into me. They had to make room for it. They hollowed me out. There is no me. I'm just… a container."
"There's a you. She's right here." Caroline told her softly.
"He may be crazy, but he's right. You walked away from me. You left me alone in that place. Why did you do that?"
"It's complicated." Caroline said.
"Sweetheart, however complicated you thought our life was before, you cannot tell me—."
She was interrupted by Alpha grabbing another pipe and attacking her. Echo hurriedly stopped it with her own pipe, but couldn't stop the kick aimed at her by Alpha. The two fought one another, both fighting viciously in an attempt to gain the upper hand against their opponent. Neither could afford to lose this battle.
"How's that for a complication?" Alpha asked her sarcastically.
Echo used some of the pipes to hoist herself up and used her legs to twist him to the ground. The fight continued until Echo finally managed to gain the upper hand more times than not.
"You don't know what you're doing. What you're giving up!" Alpha yelled from where he'd been thrown.
"Right. Why would I want to live in a luxurious spa-like environment when I could live here with you?" She raged before hitting him with a metal pipe again.
Alpha groaned in pain before kicking her away and throwing his pipe at her, Echo ducking out of the way and the metal hit some wires, causing sparks to fly.
"I thought you were different!" He yelled angrily before calming, "I thought you were exceptional. I thought you were worthy of standing by our side, but I was wrong. You're weak."
Echo smacked him across the face before punching his stomach, Alpha groaning in pain as he bent over.
"I may not know who I am, but at least I know who I am now. I'm not your girlfriend." She told him before knocking him unconscious and going back to check on Caroline, "You okay?"
"Uh… yeah. I kick ass."
Echo quickly began untying Caroline.
"Who are you?" Caroline asked the woman that was both herself yet not at the same time.
"I'm Echo." She answered, knowing with the utmost certainty that that was who she truly was now as she'd been shaped by her experiences even after being wiped time and time again.
"And who is that?"
"She's nobody. I'm just the porch light, waiting for you." She said, knowing she wouldn't ever be complete without her original personality filling in the blanks she knew were there despite not feeling it.
"You have to put me back. You have to put me back in that wedge. 'Cause we need to get…" Caroline reached down and picked up the name tag that Alpha had thoughtlessly thrown away, "Wendy back in her body."
"Why do you have to go back in the wedge? Why don't you come home?" She asked, wondering if Caroline would just abandon her again.
"I did sign a contract." Caroline tried explaining, looking as if she wanted nothing more than to return to her original body yet knew she couldn't.
"I have 38 brains. Not one of them thinks you can sign a contract to be a slave, especially now that we have a black president."
"We have a black president?"
Echo smiled smugly, deciding not to answer that question. She knew Caroline's answer before she even voiced it. Very soon she would finally be complete.
"Okay. I am missing everything. Yeah, let's do this." Caroline replied with a smile.
Caroline was suddenly cut off by the sound of a gunshot and she quickly clutched her neck in shock, gagging on her own blood as she attempted to stop the bleeding.
"Caroline! Hey! Hey! Hey!" Echo said as she at first attempted to help her stave off the bleeding before stopping to turn towards the one that had shot her, knowing it was too late.
"Now… do what I say…" Alpha said as lowered the gun before bringing it back up again to point at the wedge containing the imprint of her original personality, "or I will blow your brain out."
