Jade momentarily forgot the last two gifts she had left while hugging and thanking them for their thoughtful gifts. Lucius, however, wouldn't let her forget the last two gifts and cleared his throat to get her attention.

"You have two gifts left, why not open them as well, then we can eat lunch after?" He told her, but when she read that the remaining two gifts were from him she realized that was also the main reason he called attention to himself and chuckled a bit.

When she opened the first one she was confused for a moment. It was a record for the weird sisters, which she assumed was a band of some sort but she'd never heard of them before. Noticing her confused look, Lucius walked over to her and gently took the record from her.

"Open the last one then I'll explain them both to you." He told her as he held the record.

When she opened the last gift, she realized it was a record player. However, it looked slightly different from the muggle one she'd seen at Grandpa Green's house a few years ago. This one was black with green snakes with silver eyes on the bottom. However, what made this one so different from the muggle one was that it didn't have a needle to play music.

"I got you these things the other day when you let me use that muggle device you listen to music with." He began. "I thought hearing music from this world might be enjoyable for you since it seems you have a natural affinity for it." He smirked. "Plus this seems to be what everyone listens to these days." He said as he looked at his son and placed it in the record player.

It played immediately. She covered her ears after hearing the song's first few words. The man singing spews random nonsense in her opinion. She tried to keep her facial expression neutral but failed.

"You don't like them do you?" Lucius asked with an expression mixed with surprise and hurt. She gave him a fake smile and wanted to lie to him to spare his feelings, but thought better of it. She didn't want to get deceived and is usually unforgiving when it happens. She sighed as she shook her head to give him an honest answer. He smiled genuinely, but disappointment flashed across his face moments before. Pansey then walked up to her and patted her shoulder.

"Here, I forgot to place it under the tree." She said as she handed Jade the gift in her hands.

Jade reluctantly opened the gift, afraid she might have to tell her she didn't like whatever she had given her. She absolutely hated disappointing people she cared about. After opening the gift she saw it was a wooden cube-shaped picture frame with all her friends' moving faces on each side other than the top which said: 'Best Friends are the people you can do anything and nothing with and still have the best time.' She smiled and hugged Pansey.

~Time skip~ Back to school a week later

The snow still hadn't melted so Jade aimlessly wandered the halls since she had nothing else to do.

"Want to play chess, Jade?" Draco inquired.

"No, thanks. Maybe Daphne or Goyal will play with you." She told him as she walked out of the dungeon.

Draco sighed and looked around the room, searching for someone he could interact with. He spotted Goyal, who was also looking for something to do and asked him to participate. Goyal was delighted and the two began an intense chess match.

As she passed the great hall she heard, "Why don't we go visit Hagrid?" Ron asked Harry.

"No... you go..." Harry said with a look on his face like he wasn't really there at all.

Jade recognized that look all too well. It was the look she'd given people when she was upset over the Greens when she'd missed them.

"I know what you're thinking about, Harry, that mirror. Don't go back tonight." The redhead told him.

"Why not?" Harry asked in a challenging tone.

"I dunno, I've just got a terrible feeling about it, and anyway, you've had too many close calls already. Filch, Snape, and Mrs. Norris wander around. So what if they can't see you? What if they walk into you? What if you knock something over?" Ron warned.

Jade was curious, so she walked up to them.

"What's so significant about a stupid mirror?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.

The boys rose and looked at each other as they realized she'd heard everything they'd just said. Jade sighed.

"You might as well tell me, or I'll just tell Filch you've been roaming the halls at night."

"You have no proof of that," Ron said angrily getting dangerously close to her personal space.

"No," Jade said calmly with a promising smirk on her face, "but I'm sure Filch won't have trouble believing me."

The boys suddenly looked scared.

"We'll tell you," Harry responded quickly.

"Good boy." Jade said mockingly.

Harry sighed in annoyance and told her about seeing the Mirror of Erised without saying its name. He also told her about seeing his dead parents in it while Ron only envisioned himself as a Quidditch Captain. Her eyes widened but she didn't say anything as they returned to their original conversation.

"You sound like Hermione."

"I'm serious, Harry, don't do it."

'The Mirror... of Esrid? I swear I've read about it somewhere... but I can't remember what it was used for. Is that the mirror they're talking about?' Jade thought to herself as Harry looked defiantly at Ron. 'Looks like Potter's not gonna let Weasley tell him what to do.' She smirked as Potter left the room.

Jade followed him. Later that night the two of them found their way to the room with the mirror sitting in the middle. As soon as they walked into the room, Harry ran to the mirror. Where his mother and father smiled at him. At least that's who she assumed he'd seen. Harry sank down to sit on the floor in front of the mirror.

"Harry, may I see what it'll show me?" Jade asked with curiosity in her voice.

"Oh, uh... yeah, sorry." He said standing and moving away slightly.

She would have moved to Harry's previous spot, but a voice in the room stopped her in her tracks.

"So... back again, Harry? This time joined by Miss Green?"

Jade was terrified by the unexpected voice. She glanced at Harry, who looked just as terrified as her. They hesitantly looked behind themselves. Sitting on one of the desks by the wall was Albus Dumbledore. They must have walked past him to get to the mirror. They hadn't noticed him.

'How is that possible?' Jade frowned. 'I'm fairly certain he wasn't even here... I've always paid attention to my surroundings... how could I not have noticed him?'

She practically whined to herself as Harry spoke, "I-I didn't see you, sir."

"Strange how short-sighted being invisible can make you," said Dumbledore, and Harry seemed relieved to see him smiling.

But Jade was suspicious of him because of his tone. She studied Dumbledore, wondering why he was so calm. He seemed to be hiding something, but she couldn't put her finger on it. She swallowed and shifted her feet, feeling uncomfortable in his presence.

"So," said Dumbledore, slipping off the desk to sit on the floor with Harry and Jade following suit, "Miss Green what are you doing here?"

Jade breathed in and out to get a grip on her fear that wouldn't go away.

"I heard Harry and Ron earlier talking about the mirror and I was curious what it was exactly..." she partially explained.

"You, like hundreds before you, have discovered the delights of the Mirror of Erised."

"We didn't know what it was called, sir," Harry said.

Jade gave him a speak-for-yourself look but said nothing.

"But I expect you've realized what it does?" Dumbledore asked.

"I wasn't able to find out," Jade answered with a shrug as if she didn't care but was actually quite upset about it.

"It... well... it shows me, my family..." Harry said.

"And it showed your friend Ron as Head Boy."

"How did you know?" Harry asked as he glanced at Jade.

Jade frowned at him and stubbornly refused to answer him.

"I don't need a cloak to become invisible," said Dumbledore sternly. "Now, can you think about what the Mirror of Erised shows us all?"

Harry shook his head. Jade knew the answer but stayed silent since she still didn't trust the man.

"Let me explain. The happiest man on earth could use the Mirror of Erised like a normal mirror. He would look into it and see himself exactly as he is. Does that help?"

Harry thought about what he'd said then responded slowly, "It shows us what we want... whatever we want..."

Jade scoffed and rolled her eyes as she thought. 'Is Hermione the only intelligent Gryffindor? The answer is easy... It shows you your heart's deepest desire.'

"Yes and no," said Dumbledore quietly.

"It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest desire in our hearts. You, who have never known your family, see them standing around you. Ronald Weasley, who has always been overshadowed by his brothers, finds himself standing alone, the most talented of them all. However, this mirror will not provide knowledge or truth. Many have wasted away before it, entranced by what they have seen. They have also been driven mad, not knowing if what it shows is real or even possible." He paused for a moment.

"The mirror will be moved to its next home tomorrow. I ask you not to look for it again. If you ever run across it, you will now be prepared. It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live. Remember that. Now, why don't you put that admirable cloak back on and go to bed?" Harry stood up but Jade remained seated.

"Miss Green?" Dumbledor wondered why she hadn't left with Harry.

"Sorry headmaster, but I have to ask something of you, regarding the end-of-year celebration." She began.

~With Ron, Harry, And Hermione~ in the Gryffindor common room

"Stay there!" Hermione said, before sprinting up the stairs to the girls' dorms.

This was after Harry read Dumbledore's chocolate frog card after remembering Nicolas Flamel's name. Harry and Ron briefly exchanged mystified looks before she ran back, an enormous old book in her arms.

"I never thought to look here!" she whispered excitedly. "I got this out of the library just before Christmas for light reading."

"Light?" said Ron, but Hermione told him to be quiet until she looked something up, and started flicking frantically through the pages, muttering to herself. Finally, she found what she wanted.

"I knew it! I knew it!"

"Are we allowed to speak yet?" Ron grumbled.

Hermione ignored him.

"Nicolas Flamel," she whispered dramatically, "is the only known maker of the Philosopher's Stone!"

This didn't have quite the effect she'd expected.

"What?" asked Harry and Ron.

"Oh, honestly, don't you two read? Look! Read that there." She pushed the book towards them, and Harry and Ron read:

Alchemy is the ancient study of making the Philosopher's Stone, a legendary substance with astonishing powers. The stone transforms any metal into pure gold. It also produces the Elixir of Life, which makes the drinker immortal. There have been many reports of the Philosopher's Stone over the centuries. However, the only stone currently in existence belongs to Mr. Nicolas Flamel, the noted alchemist, and opera lover. However, very few realize the only way to find the stone is to have explicit permission from Mr. Flamel himself or use his original wand which answers to no one but its chosen master. {INSERT PICTURE OF WAND} Mr. Flamel, who celebrated his six hundred and sixty-fifth birthday last year, enjoys a quiet life in Devon with his wife, Perenelle (six hundred and fifty-eight).

"See?" said Hermione, when Harry and Ron finished. "The dog must guard Flamel's Philosopher's Stone! I bet he asked Dumbledore to keep it safe for him because they're friends and he knew someone was after it. That's why he wanted the Stone moved out of Gringotts!"

"A stone that makes gold and stops you from dying!" said Harry.

"No wonder Snape's after it! Anyone would want it," said Ron.

Hermione bit her lip trying not to tell them it wasn't Snape after it, but Quirrell.

"How are we going to get the stone to protect it, from Snape?" Asked Harry.

"What do you mean?" asked Ron.

"Well it says it can only be found by consulting Flamel for permission or finding his original wand," explained Harry.

"Oh, buggers," yelled Ron in exasperation.

"Well, why don't we ask Green to come with us then?" Hermione thought after remembering seeing Jade's wand that looked identical to the wand shown in the book.

"Why the hell would we turn to a Slytherin for help?" yelled Ron, with Harry nodding in agreement.

"Because I doubt we'd be able to find where Mr. Flamel lives, and even if we could, I doubt he'd readily give us permission as we have no actual proof. Remember when we were paired up in Flitwick's class months ago to levitate a feather?" she asked.

At their nods, she continued.

"Well, this is her wand!" She pointed to the picture excitedly.

"You sure?" asked Harry.

Hermione nodded.

"I've never seen her wand before," Ron grumbled.

The next morning in Defence Against the Dark Arts, while copying different ways of treating werewolf bites, Harry and Ron discussed what they'd do with a Philosopher's Stone if they had one. It wasn't until Ron said he'd buy his own Quidditch team that Harry remembered Snape and the coming match.

"If I don't play, all the Slytherins will think I'm too scared to face Snape. I'll show them... it'll really wipe the smiles off their faces if we win."

"Just as long as we're not wiping you off the pitch," joked Hermione.

~With Jade~ at the Quidditch tournament.

Jade decided to stay around Draco and Daphne this time. Using her binoculars she saw Ron and Hermione sitting next to Neville again.

"Hey, want to go to the Gryffindor side with me?" Draco asked with an amused smirk.

Normally she might have asked him why, but she was pretty bored so she just nodded and followed him to sit near Hermione and Ron.

"I've never seen Snape look so mean," Jade heard Ron tell Hermione. "Look, they're off. Ouch!"

Draco poked Ron in the back of the head.

"Oh, sorry, Weasley, didn't see you there." Draco grinned broadly as Crabbe and Goyle sat behind him and Jade.

'So he's just pestering Weasley? I can get on board with that.' She thought as she smirked at the redhead.

"Wonder how long Potter's going to stay on his broom this time? Does anyone want a bet? What about you, Weasley?" Ron didn't answer; Snape had just awarded Hufflepuff a penalty because George Weasley had hit a Bludger at him.

Jade smirked at Draco.

'I'd watch gambling with me Draco... Wouldn't want to lose would you?' She whispered as she chuckled.

He smiled at her.

'That's why I didn't bet with you.' He whispered back as he smirked.

"You know how I think they choose people for the Gryffindor team?" Jade asked just loud enough that Ron could hear her from his seat, as Snape awarded Hufflepuff another penalty for no reason at all.

"Hmm, it's gotta be people they feel sorry for. See, there's Potter, who's got no parents, then there's the Weasleys, who've got no money... you should be on the team, Longbottom, you've got no brains." Draco said with a smirk answering Jade but looking at Neville who became bright red and turned in his seat to face him.

"I'm worth twelve of you, Malfoy," he stammered.

Jade's eyes grew wide before she laughed at him.

"Oh, that's rich! Where'd you hear that one Longbottom?" She said but there was no amusement in her eyes when she looked at him.

Her eyes looked colder than ice. Neville felt a chill go through him. He stepped back, avoiding her gaze. He'd never been brave but he'd never felt as scared as he did at that moment, and he ran without another word.

"Woah! How did you do that?" Crabbe asked.

"I knew he was a coward but I've never seen him run and cower that quickly," Goyal said in awe of her.

She smirked. "I can't help it. I'm protective of my friends, especially the ones I consider family." She answered simply.

Draco smirked at her.

"I'm warning you, Malfoy... Green... one more word–" Ron warned him having had enough of him and Jade messing with them.

"Ron!" said Hermione suddenly. "Harry!"

"What? Where?" Jade and Draco looked at where the two Gryffindors were now looking.

Harry dived, drawing gasps and cheers from the crowd. Hermione stood up, with crossed fingers, as Harry streaked toward the ground like a bullet.

"You're in luck, Weasley. Potter's obviously spotted some money on the ground!" said Draco.
