(Normal P.O.V)

September 27, 1931

It was a normal day like any other in the Inkwell Isles. After the defeat of the Devil at the hands of brothers Cuphead and Mugman, there was a peace unlike anything the Isles had seen.

However, unknown to all, the peace will soon be shattered. For an old foe long defeated is slowly rising back into power, biding his time for his long awaited vengeance.

And he has discovered the means to gain full control of all of Inkwell Isles… and many other worlds beyond them…

Deep within the dark depths of Inkwell Hell, the Devil was seated upon his throne, his left horn adorning a golden cuff, encrusted with blood red gemstones. It has taken all of his best spells to fix his horn back into place since his humiliating defeat at the hands of the young cups, but it will take a long time for the crack to fade, so he had to make do with covering it up.

On one hand, the cuff does seem to make him look even more regal. Perhaps he should wear it from now on even when he's rid of the infuriating reminder of how he had lost his horn in the first place.

Ever since his defeat at the hands of those porcelain brats, no one had set foot inside his beautiful casino. No bets were placed. No deals were made. But most of all… no souls were collected.

The casino used to be filled to the brim with patrons and suckers, lured in with gambling to try their luck. There was no end to the laughter, bright lights and the constant chattering between one another. But after his defeat, the casino became emptier, and emptier, until no one bothered to show up.

He was ruined.

And he had those Cup boys to blame for that.

He needed a plan, one that would exact his revenge on the Cups and one that would bring the Isle of Inkwell under his control, reeking havoc and spreading fear to those who opposed him.

But what? What could he possibly plan that would achieve such a grand goal?

He had no scam to conduct, nor any resources to use against the boys since everyone on the Isle no longer feared him.

But one day, all of that changed…

It was late at night in the casino, and the Devil paced impatiently in his throne room, waiting to hear from a group of imp scouts if they discovered anything from their search.

"And I made it very clear that if they come back empty-handed again, I will burn them alive…" He growled, clutching his fists tighter and tighter.

Just then, the doors of the throne room opened and a few imps came in.

"Well?! What have you got to report!?" He snapped, as he sat back on his throne.

"Boss! We found them! We found them!" The imps announced.

That surprised the Devil. They retrieved the items?!

The imps showed him a brown sack, which he snatched from them and opened it up. A wicked smile came on his face. He reached in and pulled out four objects. One of them was a large book with a leather cover, stitches were woven on the side of the cover. While the color faded, the title was clear as day.

Cuphead: Don't Deal with the Devil.

The other three items were gemstones. One was golden yellow, the other was crystal blue and the third one was a rose pink.

"At last, these are mine!" The Devil cackled. "With these gems stones, I will be unstopped! Now, let's take a look at our chosen ones, shall we?" He snapped his fingers and his looking glass appeared before him.

Touching it lightly with his pitchfork, the glass rippled until it began to form an image. The image revealed to him a young woman with blonde hair tied in a ponytail sitting on her desk typing on her computer and chatting as well. She seemed to be talking with other people, planning out details for a trip.

As the Devil continued to study the girl, suddenly, the yellow gem began to glow brightly. This pleased him very much.

"My my, I sense a powerful spirit with this one, powerful like the phoenix." He pondered. "She would do wonders for me, especially since she knows how to take charge."

The girl then pulled out her phone and called someone by the name of Liam, asking him if he and another person would like to join her for a trip.

"Huh, some city called New York? Interesting, seems like she's going on a trip. And she's bringing guests too? They might be useful, or not."

Then, he heard the girl talk.

"Yeah, it'll be Kate, Nat, and I, but with Kate's parents, they'll feel better knowing a man would be with us. Let's see...Oh you can make it? Awesome! I'll let them know. Love you, Lee. Bye."

She hung up her phone and giggled with delight.

Just then, the door to the throne room opened and the Devil's lackey, King Dice, stepped in.

"Hey Boss, how's it-"

But before he could finish, he stopped when he spotted the young woman. He saw the girl in the looking glass, and a terrible nasty grin came upon his face. He had never seen anyone like her before. Sure there are some humans in Inkwell, but nothing compared to her.

"Oh my. Now, who's the lovely lady?" He asked his employer.

"Someone who will help me achieve total control over Inkwell." the Devil responded. "She's bringing along the other two and a boyfriend."

"Boyfriend huh? Well, I hate to break his little heart but I think she's my kinda gal if you're perfectly fine…" Dice trailed off.

"Perhaps we can work out an arrangement." The Devil responded.

Dice nodded, feeling quite pleased with his answer. Then, the looking glass changed the image to reveal another young woman, this one with short dark hair who was finishing up a chat and giggling with delight.

"Oh man, I'm so excited! A trip to New York is awesome! And just in time for summer!"

Then, he noticed that the pink gem stone began to suddenly glow while the yellow gemstone's glow faded.

"Huh she's full of life, definitely a magical type." The Devil mused. "She does have a good heart but seems to me like the power comes through her mind. She'll be very useful."

"Wow, sure is something." Dice replied. "Think he'd like her?"

"But of course! She'll need to see someone who can strengthen her abilities both mind and body." His employer chirped

After seeing enough of the raven-haired girl, the image then changed to a third young woman. This one had short dark brown hair and bright blue eyes. A terrible grin came upon the Devil's face, as he gazed at the woman, the pink gemstone's light faded but the blue one began to glow.

"Can't believe I'm going to New York on my own! It's not exactly like traveling to a different world like Kingdom Hearts, but still an adventure! I can't wait to meet Lexie and Natty in person!" The blue-eyed girl smiled with delight.

She then sighed, looking down in sadness.

"Just wish I could go to other worlds where things are a lot more exciting. The real world is just filled with so much hurt and disappointment…"

She then looked at a drawing of a small, furry dragon-like creature with flowery wings on her dresser desk wistfully and before sitting down on her bed to grab a book to read.

"Oh, she's perfect for me, such beauty, such creativity and desire for adventure." The Devil grinned with a lustful look in his eye. "And since she wants to have the pain removed from her, perhaps I could make that possible for her…"

The image then faded and the gemstone stopped glowing, while the Devil continued to smirk deviously.

"And now…it's time for phase one of my plan to start."

He then took each of the three gemstones and placed them directly on the cover of the book the imps found, caressing it along with the blue gem.

"I'm sure my darling Katie would be happy to read a good book such as this."

Opening up a portal, the Devil took the book and threw it in, where it ended up in a mysterious bookshop. One that the Devil knew was the blue gemstone bearer's favorite.

"You ladies want a trip? I'll give you one you'll never forget." He then began to cackle, loud enough for everyone to hear.

Little did the three young women know…they were in for one "Hell" of a time.
