Rory POV
Ever since I'd met with Francine and found out that I wasn't only their heiress to one family fortune but both, I'd been incredibly busy. Fortunately, Grandpa was still handling things at Gilmore Insurance so I didn't have to worry about that yet. Dad had helped with things over at Hayden Law so that was starting to settle down. After I'd met with Straub's attorney, he'd given the details of everything that Straub had left me. In addition to the family fortune and the law firm, he'd also left me several properties that he'd owned. Finn and I had decided to gather everyone and tell them what was going on before Francine and Emily sent out the announcement or threw a party. We were glad they did. The party had been huge. They had decided to do a joint party where both families could make their announcement. After the announcement had been made, Logan, Mitchum and Shira had approached us. Logan had offered me his congratulations. However the conversation with the Huntzberger elders had shocked me. "Rory dear, it's so go to see you." Shira said in her society voice that I knew so well.
"Is it Shira?" I asked.
She looked shocked. "Is something the matter?" She asked.
"You once told me that I wasn't good enough for your family. But now, I'm guessing after the announcement that you've realized just how much money that I truly have." I said. I knew that I was goading her but I couldn't help it.
"Well, I mean we knew that your mother was a Gilmore but nobody ever knew who your father was." Shira said.
"Logan did. He's met my father. Finn does. He's spent time with my father. In fact, Finn's entire family has met my entire family…Gilmores and Hayden's. I never kept it a secret who my father was, you just didn't want to take the time to get to know me. You thought that I was beneath you." I said.
"That…that isn't true." She stuttered.
"But isn't it?" I asked. She huffed and then turned around and stormed out of the party dragging Mitchum behind her.
"That was great." Logan and Finn said at the same time.
It had been a few weeks since the party and Finn and I were taking a trip. We both needed some time to relax so Finnegan and Alicia had agreed to let us use their house in Martha's Vineyard. When we arrived at the house, Finn and I had opened everything up to let it air out, knowing that Finnegan and Alicia hadn't been there in months. Once we'd done that, I made some coffee and decided to sit out back on the lounge while I had a cup of coffee. It was peaceful here.
After we'd been there for a couple of days, Finn decided that we needed to go out for a nice dinner since we'd been eating take-out since we'd been there. I was wearing a black cocktail dress. The restaurant had been really nice. Fancy but not too fancy. Definitely wasn't as fancy as some of the places that Logan had taken me when we were together. Maybe that was why Finn and I were so good together. We'd liked to go for fancy meals but we were also just as happy to sit at home on the couch in sweats eating Chinese food straight out of the container. Not to mention that he fit in perfectly in Stars Hollow.
After dinner, Finn and I decided to take a walk on the beach. After about ten minutes of walking, he stopped turning to look at me. "You okay?" I asked him.
He nodded. "Look I know that we haven't been together long…officially, but Rory I can't imagine my life without you. I've been thinking about it for a while and I realized…you fit in everywhere…you fit in perfectly in society, with my friends and family…Everything you do you manage to succeed at it." He said reaching into his pocket. "I never thought that I'd find the one girl that would make my like perfect, but you do. I love the fact that you're the first face that I see in the morning and the last one that I see before I go to sleep. It makes me happy that you get along with my Mom and my sister, cause let's face it, that isn't always easy." Finn said. I guess he realized that he was rambling cause he slowed down. "What I'm trying to say is…I don't want to move forward in this life without you by my side. Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden III, would you do me the honor of being my wife and making me the luckiest guy in the world?"
By the time he was finished, I could feel the tears running down my face. My love for Finn had completely snuck up on me. I'd never even seen it coming. But here we were almost a year after everything had happened and he was proposing to me. "Yes." I whispered almost too low for him to hear but I knew that he had. He had the biggest grin on his face. He wrapped me in his arms and kissed me passionately. When he pulled back, he pulled the ring out of the box and slipped it on my finger. "It's beautiful Finn." I said.
"I'm glad you like it. Let's go back to the house. I have one more surprise for you." He said, leading me back down the beach towards the house.
When we walked into the house through the back door, I was surprised. Everyone was here. Both of our families. Lane and Zach, Paris, Colin, Robert, Logan and Stephanie. I couldn't believe it. We stood there as everyone looked at us. "We're getting married." I blurted out.
Everyone shouted their congratulations. I couldn't believe that Finn had been able to pull all of this off without me knowing. It was kind of surreal. But I was the happiest that I think I'd ever been. And on top of it I had my own surprise.
