Happily Ever After
Pairing: Rory/Finn
Summary: It's been seven months since Rory and Finn got married and even though they didn't think that they could be any happier, today tops that day.
Rory POV
I never thought that I'd be happier than the day that Finn and I had gotten married. But I had been wrong. The happiest day of my life had been today.
The day that Finn and I had gotten engaged, I'd found out that I was pregnant. I didn't tell him that day because I didn't want people to think that we were getting married because of the pregnancy. We decided on a short engagement, despite what my grandmothers wanted. It had been beautiful. We'd ended up having a small ceremony on the beach near the family compound in Australia. It was just our families and a few close friends. During dinner (the closest the we'd had to a reception) we'd told everyone that I was pregnant. Of course there were questions about if that was why we'd pushed for a quick wedding and we'd told them no. We knew that they probably were satisfied with that answer, but they'd accepted.
Finn and I had spent the six weeks traveling. A combination honeymoon/babymoon. We knew that even though part of our jobs, is traveling…but this would probably be the last time that we'd be able to travel just for us.
When we arrived back home, we were surprised to see Mom, Finnegan and Alicia waiting for us in our living room. Mom and Alicia looked like they were absolutely giddy. "What's up?" I asked. They both smiled at me, each grabbing a hand and pulling me up the stairs. They led me to the bedroom that was right across the hall from mine and Finn's.
"Close your eyes." Mom said.
I closed my eyes and placed my hand over my eyes. I heard the door open and they gently led me forward. "You can open them." Alicia said.
When I opened my eyes I couldn't believe it. They'd set up a nursery while we'd been gone. It was completely beautiful. "Now we know that you don't know what you're having yet, but we wanted to do something for you guys." Mom said. "It's not much but it'll at least get you guys started."
I stood there and looked at the room. There were murals on every wall. It was painted to look like an undersea adventure. There were ocean critters painted all over the place. "It's beautiful." I said. I continued to look around the room and saw a beautiful white crib sitting in front of the window. I walked over to it and ran my fingers over it. "This is stunning."
"Grandma found it in her basement while you were gone. It was mine and then eventually yours until we moved to Stars Hollow." Mom said. "Do you like it hun?" She asked me.
I felt a few tears running down my face. "This room is…its everything that I've been envisioning since I found out. How did you know?" I asked.
"Apparently you talk in your sleep." Mom said.
Over the next few months, everyone did what they could to help us prepare for the baby. When I was about seven months pregnant, Mom, Alicia, Annabeth and Stephanie surprised me with a baby shower. In all honesty I hadn't even expected one. I mean it wasn't a secret that we could afford anything that we needed for the baby but it was nice that they'd wanted to do this. By the end of the day, I'd been exhausted.
And then finally the day came. Today to be exact. I was two days overdue. I was woken up at five thirty in the morning by the need of having to go to the bathroom. However, things quickly sent me into a slight panic. I started having contractions immediately. I woke Finn up and told him that we needed to go to the hospital. While we were getting ready we called our parents letting them know what was going on.
After arriving at the hospital, they quickly got me into a room and got me hooked up to monitors. A few minutes later, a nurse came in and told me that she needed to check me to see how dilated I was. She said that I was at four centimeters so we were in for a long day.
As the day progressed, our families and a few friends were in and out. I knew that everyone was camping out in the waiting room. Everyone wanted to be here for when our baby decided to make an appearance.
Early in the evening, my doctor along with the nurse came in to check me again and they told me that we were finally nearing the finish line. I couldn't have been more thrilled. They started setting everything up for the delivery. I looked over at Finn and he looked like he wanted to pass out. I told him to go grab our moms, knowing that they'd want to be in here for this. It was the first grandchild on both sides. A few minutes later, the three of them arrived back just in time for the doctor to get everyone situated for the delivery.
A few contractions and pushes later and I heard the most precious sound in the whole world. My baby's cry. The doctor quickly announced that it was a beautiful healthy little girl. Of course Finn and I knew that we were having a girl but we'd decided to keep it a surprise until we'd had her. We wanted everyone to know at the same time. Once the nurse had gotten her cleaned up she handed her to me. I laid there with her in my arms and I didn't think that I could another person more than I loved her in that moment.
A few hours later, we'd gathered everyone together so that they could meet her and we could make a few announcements. The main one being her name. "Okay so we're sure that you all are mad because we didn't tell you that we were having a girl but you'll all get over it." Finn told them.
"We didn't tell you because we knew that everyone would want to know her name and we'd decided that we weren't telling anyone her name until she was born." I added. "So, we would like you all to meet Miss Lorelai Stephanie Morgan also known as Lorelai the fourth." I told them, handing my daughter to Finn.
I looked up at Mom first, who had the biggest smile on her face. Then to Grandpa who looked like he wanted to cry, knowing that I had chosen to continue the Lorelai name. The last person that I looked at was Steph. She looked like she wanted to cry. "Your naming her after me?" Steph asked.
Finn and I both nodded. "Finn and I did a lot of talking when we found out that we were having a girl. Then we realized that even though it isn't common anymore, we wanted to make sure that if anything ever happened to either of either of us that she had someone that would take care of her just like we would. Several people came to mind, but there was only one name that stayed in my mind. Yours. You've been there for Finn and I through everything…the good and the bad. It only make sense that we name you and Colin as Stephanie's godparents." I told her.
She quickly crossed the room and through herself into my arms and started crying. "I promise you…I will always look out for her." Steph said.
"I know." I said.
The rest of the day had been filled with love, laughter and tears. Everyone had been so happy for us and I couldn't be more happier. I never thought that I would have been this happy back when I was at Yale and I had been with Logan. But in a way I owed Logan my thanks. Had I not taken that leap and started a casual relationship with him, I never would have met Finn, fallen in love, gotten married, and I definitely wouldn't have my beautiful little girl.
A/N: And that's a wrap. It amazes me sometimes how some stories will just flow. Hope you liked it. It was never intended to be long. Enjoy.
