"Hello, Kinsey."

Her racing heart began to feel like it was practically pounding against her chest at the sound of the voice that was all too familiar to her now, as she began to frantically look around her immediate vicinity.

"...What do you want?" She finally uttered, her voice now trembling more than she had intended to allow.

The voice on the other end just chuckled as she started to make her way around the apartment to see if either Seth or Cori had managed to make it back without her knowing.

"...playing dumb's not gonna cut it, Kinsey." The voice continued as she checked Cori's room….to no avail. "..You're Samantha Macher-Loomis's little girlfriend…"

Heavy emphasis was put on Sam's last name. "...which means I think you and I both know damn well what I want, in fact, from the sounds of it, I'm willing to bet you know it all too well by now…..don't you?"

"Well, then I think you should know that you picked the wrong girl." Kinsey's voice only trembled more as she tried to sound more confident, exiting Cori's room as she noticed that Asami was now looking toward the close near the front door and whining.

The voice chuckled again, considerably more menacingly. "Was that a threat, Kinsey?"

"No…" She continued to look nervously toward the closet door, quickly deciding to hurry to the kitchen for a knife, instead. "...it's just that I'm not as well versed in horror as my girlfriend is, meaning you've gotten yourself into a rather short game here."

"I'm old school, baby." The voice on the other end chuckled proudly. "I don't have time for menial trivia questions that you and I both know you'll just end up frantically scouring the internet for the answers to while you try to keep me on the line, I mean, where's the fun in that?!"

Kinsey quickly looked back over to Asami, who was now growling at whatever it was she was hearing….or seeing.

"...I much prefer the old Cat and Mouse!" The voice hissed, just as someone in the Ghostface robe and mask sprung out from the cabinet under the kitchen sink that was near where Kinsey had gotten her knife from.

The attacker grabbed Kinsey, once they had gotten up on their feet, catching her off guard, as they grabbed and stabbed her in the shoulder while she screamed out and fought to get them off of her.

They managed to wrestle her down to the floor, as she grabbed at her injured shoulder, but just as they raised their own knife to try to stab her, she finally managed to kick them off her and crawl away while Asami rushed at them to attack, which knocked them to the ground.

Meanwhile, Kinsey had managed to grab the knife that she had dropped in the attack and struggle up to her feet to start running toward the living room.

The attacker tried to get back up to chase her, but Asami aggressively persisted, snarling and biting at the attacker until they stabbed her.

Kinsey, who had shut herself in hers' and Sam's room to call the police, hoping that Asami would eventually scare the attacker off, felt her heart sink when she heard the sound Asami's pained yelp through the closed door.

"No…" Her trembling voice was now on the verge of sobs as she dropped the phone and let herself sink down to the floor, back against the door, her face streaming with tears that had finally fought their way through as she tried to hold them back.

When she finally opened the door, she immediately noticed that the attacker was gone and that the window that led to the fire escape was opened.

The next thing she noticed was that Asami was lying not far from there, as if she had still tried to chase the person, but still breathing.

"Oh, thank god." She whimpered, rushing over there to try to comfort her and check her injury. "I know..I know, baby." She smiled slightly as Asami was trying to lick the hand that Kinsey was using to cover her wound, only getting up to grab a blanket from the couch that she could use to keep pressure on it.

It wasn't long from then that Sam had finally arrived home, inadvertently startling Kinsey with the sound of her keys from the other side of the door and then practically bursting in when it was unlocked.

"Sam, oh my god!" She sobbed when she realized it was her, almost immediately rushing over to her.

"Kins, what the hell is going on? What's with all the police ou- "

"It's the killer, he- " She panicked through her. "H- he- I- I- he called, an- and I thought it was gonna be you, and then.." She clung onto Sam, who was now holding her and letting her sniffle into her shoulder and rattle off, barely coherently, about how the killer had attacked her and Asami

"Okay, okay.." Sam gently tried to reassure her. "It's okay, he's gone now….he's gone, I didn't see anyone when I came up….it's- " She sighed, briefly looking over Kinsey's shoulder at the open window. "...it's gonna be okay. I'm here now."

Kinsey nodded as she continued to sniffle into her shoulder.

"Jesus, you're bleeding!" Sam blurted out, observing the injured shoulder when Kinsey finally pulled away from her a little. "Come on, we'll go get that looked at."

She reached down to Asami, who had managed to limp over to the both of them when she saw Sam. "You too."

"It's like deja vu, all over again." Kinsey sighed, as a paramedic was attending to her shoulder wound at the back of an ambulance.

"Yep…." Sam, who was sitting right beside her, sighed. "...deja vu." She then looked up and smiled a little at another paramedic, who was carrying Asami over to them.

Her wound was bandaged, and looking considerably better, and her tail was wagging a mile a minute.

"Didn't know there were paramedics for dogs." Sam joked as he placed her carefully down by the girls.

"Well, not the best equipped one." He joked back. "You should still take her to get checked out by an actual vet, as soon as you can."

Sam nodded. "That'll be our next stop."

He gave another, more sympathetic smile as he gave Asami one last head scratch before he left.

"Time to invest in a sidecar?" Kinsey chuckled, giving Asami some more pets.

Sam chuckled back at that and looked at her watch. "Seth should be getting off work right about now, I'll just have him drive us in his truck."

Kinsey nodded, reaching her hand out to Sam, who lovingly gripped it back.

Almost as if on cue, their moment was interrupted by Cori, who came running up when she noticed the commotion, followed shortly by Seth.

"Jesus, who died?" Seth blurted out.

Cori turned and smacked him over the head for it. "Do you ever think before you spew any of the shit that comes out of your mouth.

"Oww!" He cried. "Take it easy, it was just a joke." He started to rub his head, as if Cori had actually hit him that hard. "Seriously though, what happened?"

Sam shot him a defensive glare, which Kinsey caught and placed a hand over her shoulder.

Sam glanced over at her gesture and dialed it down just a notch, though shot him another look that was just as intimidating.

"Kinsey was attacked, so was Asami when she tried to protect her.

Seth's demeanor shifted completely, as soon as he saw Kinsey's shoulder.

"Wh- are you okay?! Did they catch him? Who- "

"It was someone in the fucking ghostface costume, dumbass. We don't know who!"

"Hey, I'm just concerned, alright? I didn't know!"

Kinsey had to hold Sam back from lunging forward at him.

"Alright, enough!" She sighed. "I'm fine, Seth. Really."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes." Kinsey sighed again. "Whoever it was only got my shoulder, and it wasn't even that deep."

"For now…." Sam added.

Kinsey looked at her and sighed, before looking back at Seth.

"Look, we just need a ride to the nearest animal hospital so that Asami can get looked at a little better. Can you do that?"

"Of course I will." He reassured, gently. "I'll go bring the truck around."

"Thanks." Sam called after him.

He put a hand up to indicate that he'd heard her.

"You know, I have my car too." Cori offered when he was out of sight. "I'd be happy to take you guys too."

Sam half smiled. "...and I appreciate that. Really, I do. But with all due respect, I'd much prefer it if you could just make sure your brother keeps my girlfriend's name off of his goddamned podcast."

"Already on it." Cori assured her , taking her phone out.

"Seriously." Sam reiterated.

"Seriously, I am on it." Cori reassured.

Sam nodded. "Thank you...I just…" She trailed off with another sigh.

Kinsey put her hand back up on Sam's shoulder and began gently stroking it again. "She knows…..she knows."

Sam nodded again, smiling a little more when Kinsey nuzzled up a little closer to her and rested her head on her shoulder.
