The Forgotten Chieftain's Wife Chapter 31
Lyanna can truthfully say it was all a waiting game as she lost track of the hours waiting for word on whether are not the soldiers of Stormwind have returned from battle with the Horde at the Black Morass along with Lothar and Khadgar facing Medivh alone in Karazhan.
Right after the army and Lothar's group departs from Stormwind, Lyanna is reunited with her beloved sister-in-law Lady Taria and her children. Many tears were exchanged all around and meeting her niece and nephew once more really hit hard for her. The two children had grown so much in her time away. Adariall and Varian are intrigued by Go'el, the differences in their skin tone and facial features especially the ears. Varian really got a kick out of those and tickling them to make Go'el giggle.
The wolf mounts are settled in a large courtyard at the stables separate from the horses in order to accommodate their large size. The servants there are justifiably wary of the canines but were reassured by Lyanna that as long as they are well fed, watered, and left alone to rest after their run then they would be alright.
A majority of the time is spent in Lyanna's old quarters. It's exactly the way Lyanna had left it when she'd gone out riding that day. It brings tears to Lyanna's eyes when she's told Llane had forbidden anyone from messing with her belongings other than when the palace servants were tidying up the place. To make up for lost time Lady Taria, Adariall, and Varian assist Lyanna and Draka in arranging her Frostwolf belongings around the chambers to make her feel more at ease and at home again. Also, as another way to assist the two in taking their minds off more troubling things.
Draka's presence does make the kids slightly fearful. Lady Taria breaks the ice by asking questions about Orc culture and way of life after it's confirmed that Draka speaks their language. Disposition brightened when she realizes someone here isn't afraid of her Draka eagerly answers whatever questions are thrown her way and then makes her own inquires in kind.
Lyanna preoccupies herself with supervising Adariall and Varian interacting with Go'el.
Slowly the uncomfortable essence in the atmosphere fades.
Suddenly an alarm is sounded at the front gates.
Darting to the balcony all of them crowd around to find out what's going on.
About half a mile outside the main gates a portal is forming. Lyanna's heart holts in terror as she thinks this is Gul'dan's way of launching an attack on a vulnerable Stormwind. But just as quick as the fear came it vanished. The energy routing the portal to this location isn't emerald green from the wretched Fel. No, it is a fresh and clean blue that is identified as Azeroth's magic.
Medivh…he's returned to his old self, free of the Fel. This is his doing, redirecting the portals trajectory to Stormwind. Profound gratitude is felt toward Medivh for this gesture.
There is no time to waste.
Guards are stationed with Varian, Adariall, and Go'el to protect them while Lady Taria, Draka, and Lyanna rush to the front gates where people are gathering in preparation.
No sooner do they arrive on the wall that figures emerge, spilling from the portal.
Humans not Orcs.
The prisoners at the Horde.
Things just get better and better.
From inside the portal emerge so many prisoners that are kept captive against their will. They make a break for safety and security of Stormwind.
But this good fortune is not to last.
Not all of them will have the good fortune to make it through.
This barely lasts a few minutes and then the unthinkable happens. Out of nowhere the blue light that outlined the center of the portal was sputtering and flickering erratically. The image at the confrontation with the Horde in the Black Morass is rapidly fading from top to bottom.
This means only one thing. Medivh is dead. He's the only one that could keep the portal open and without him there's nothing powering it.
Anguish fills Lyanna's heart as she doesn't spot the two people she'd been hoping to see. Llane and Garona still hadn't made it out. They only have mere seconds remaining to flee or else they'd be lost.
Then, at the very last second, a miracle.
Llane and Garona jump through. By all appearances Garona had dragged Llane to the other side from the back.
Garona has kept her promise.
Karos, Varos, and the other soldiers didn't make it, having covered the retreat. Their brave sacrifice would not be in vain as it has brought back the King.
Llane and Garona are met by the three of them. As Lady Taria embraces her husband Draka and Lyanna greet Garona.
Hugging Garona, Lyanna said "Thank you."
"I told you I'd bring him back to you," said Garona.
Llane is taken to his children so they can see with their own eyes he is in one piece.
It's here Llane is introduced to his nephew.
Llane is in awe of the boy and insists on holding him as soon as he is out of armor and in a change of clothes.
"Has anymore of the Frostwolves made it here," asked Llane, tugging Go'el's swaddling more securely around him.
Sadly, Lyanna said "No…it appears to be only Draka, Go'el, and myself. We're the only ones left."
Soberly, taking Lyanna's hand in his, Llane said "I'm so sorry."
So much had been regained for Lyanna in the last few days while, at the same time, somethings equal as much are stolen away from her. The grief is almost too much to bear once it fully hits her.
That evening while Draka and Garona are sleeping near the fire Lyanna and Go'el are still awake. Lyanna had been unable to sleep and Go'el had awakened during the night for his feed. When he is finished Lyanna's burps him and stares into her child's eyes as Go'el coos at her. Staring into Go'el's eyes, his adorable little faced, she can see so much of Durotan in him already. Lyanna stifles sobs, pressing him to her chest amidst the swaddling, laying her lead over his as she kisses his head, glancing at the Frostwolf banner glistening from the fire.
From all around her, Lyanna can hear the voices of those lost calling to her. Garad, Geyah, and Durotan. Their voices mix in memories that mingle together. Durotan's is the most profound of the bunch. His voice and touch surround her from all sides.
"Whatever happens."
Carrying a heavy heart in her chest Lyanna walks out onto the balcony, staring into her suns face.
"I don't know if this is the right kind of place. This should've happened on Frostfire Ridge with all of the Frostwolf Clan around you. I don't even know all the tales. There wasn't enough time. But you will know about the Frostwolves, your people, and the father who loved you. You will know who he is so you will know who you are. You are Go'el, son of Durotan, son of Garad. An unbroken line of Chieftain's," said Lyanna, lifting Go'el above her head under the stary evening sky. "Look up, Little One. See the stars, the moon, and the whole sky. Behold, the only thing that is greater than you."
Draka, Lyanna, and Go'el are all that is left of the once great Frostwolf Clan, reduced to such a diminished state.
The assumption that more Frostwolves could've possibly survived the purge is dismissed as idle nonsense because of Lyanna and Draka's own admittance that they'd barely managed to escape from pursuers with their lives.
Oh, how wrong they would be.
Authors Note:
Heads up everyone there's someone on fanfiction you need to seriously watch out for. Early a couple of days ago after I woke up I was checking my email and I saw I had a new guest review on my A Dog's Purpose Is Strange Magic 2 sequel. I took a look at it and got a very big shock. Some random person I've never spoken to before on here or anywhere else in my life was basically threatening me. Intimidating and practically ordering me to write a threatening letter to someone on their behalf, telling to stay off of for life or else they and everyone else close to them would be killed, disgustingly telling them to kill themselves. And at the bottom of the message this crazy person wasn't done. Warning me that if I don't send the letter then they would kill me and for confirmation to email them to make absolutely sure I complied with their demands. Of course I did nothing of the sort. Instead of doing what they wanted I reported them to the website, sent copies of this deplorable guest review message to police officer cousins of mine so they could have it on file, and I went to a nearby police station and reported it.
When I spoke to the police officers and they checked everything on the message they saw, that while the address and names of business were accurate the people and their names were not. They agree it was more than likely a scam because of the email address on the bottom in order to perhaps get access to personal information or potentially hack my computer. Despite that I'm still very happy they took it seriously as I showed and told them everything. All the same I'm still very happy that I brought this to the attention of law enforcement. Even though the entire thing might be fake I'm still very happy to have brought this to the attention of those who can do something about it if it was legit in some way. This may have been a scam, but it's obvious these people are beyond irresponsible if they try to goad people into sending death threats to random strangers just to get access to info.
Be that as it may if this does unfortunately happen to you do not send any messages to the email addresses they put down and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring the message to the authorities immediately whether it is legit or not.
Because it's a guest review it might not be visible for a couple of days as it loads if it is sent to you. But when it does you should definitely pressing the report abuse button and send it to the email that leads to the support staff that is available.
Just a heads up to those of you who aren't aware of this yet, Email alerts for this website are now only active if Email opts is enabled in account settings.
I hope you all like this one! I certainly did while writing it for your vast enjoyment! ;D
For those of you just starting out with my stuff there are other works on my profile that may catch your interest. I highly recommend you take a look as soon as the opportunity presents itself to you. Who knows, you may be pleasantly surprised by what you discover.
Stay safe everyone. Especially with all of these crazy natural disasters occurring a lot lately due to global warming and climate change everywhere for sure. I swear it's like they're getting worse and worse all the time and it's like officials are simply just ignoring it or pretending it doesn't exist entirely just to go on with their daily lives. Especially those in multi-million dollar companies that rely on certain elements of our planet that we rely on to naturally keep us safe instead of adapting and finding new safer ways to keep in business. There are so many options out there where they can adapt, but they just refuse to see it because all they care about is money. Climate change is altering so much faster than anyone can really keep track of.
So, in light of all this, it is important to live life to the fullest as much as anyone can.
I know I am. ;) See you guys next time.
