"Speaking"
"Thinking"
"You want me to do what now?" Skylor asked
"You heard me right. I want you to teach me how to fight." replied Alex
It was Thursday, the day after Alex had his talk with Krux about elemental powers. It was just after his shift at the noodle house and he had just asked Skylor to teach him how to fight.
"Why do you want me to teach you? You don't plan on going all vigilante and start fighting crime during the night do you?" she asked.
"No!" Alex answered, trying to reassure her he wasn't intending to actively pick a fight or fight crime. "It's just that as an elemental master I might have to fight due to my powers and that when it happens I can actually defend myself in case my powers don't work."
He was sorta lying to her. He did intend to fight crime/villains ,but he probably would have to fight eventually due to him being an elemental master.
Skylor looked at him skeptically, probably not believing him.
"Alright I'll teach you. Meet me here in front of the noodle house on Sunday at noon. It is the only day the noodle house isn't open." she answered.
Alex inwardly cheered at the fact that she would teach him how to fight, but then a question popped into his head.
"Why isn't the noodle house open on sundays? I would have thought the restaurant would be open everyday." Alex asked
She sighed at that. "Well it was ,but then my father tried to conquer Ninjago. As you can probably guess, the majority of the workers quit so I have to work everyday .Unlike Zane though I am not a machine and need a break so the restaurant is closed on Sundays to give me the previously stated break. Does that answer your question?"
Alex nodded his head.
"Good." With that she started walking away ,but then suddenly stopped.
"Before I forgot to mention the restaurant also won't be open Saturday so you have the day off." She said, looking at me.
"Why?" Alex asked in confusion. "Are you renovating the restaurant and it's closed for that day?"
"No it's not getting renovated. The mayor of the city is throwing a big festival on Saturday to properly celebrate the win over my father. All the elemental masters were invited to be part of a parade that is planned. I would prefer not to be part of it ,but if I don't it might look like I sympathize with my father and that wouldn't look good if I did that." she answered with obvious annoyance. "Regardless, enjoy the day off you. Maybe you will enjoy the parade."
"I'll try to." Alex answered, hiding his annoyance at not being able to make money that day. He was already struggling with money and now he was making even less than before.
(till Saturday evening)
The celebrations were underway. Music was being blasted through the city for everybody to hear. There were carnival games for people to enjoy though most people just ended up losing their money and getting no prize. Everywhere Alex walked there seemed to be a food vendor or a little shop that sold fun little trinkets. Most had pieces of costumes that resembled the ninja in some way. A couple shops had pieces that resembled the other elemental masters. Alex wanted to buy some of the items ,but again he still didn't have enough money for any of the things.
Alex walked to the side of the road in order to get a good view of the actual parade. It was supposed to start any minute now. At that moment, a lot of cheers started coming when a parade float went around the corner.
Alex thought the floats were really cool when he finally saw them get to him. Each individual elemental master had their own little float that represented their element. Most of the elemental masters were demonstrating their element in some form in order to awe the crowd. He eventually saw Skylor's float. It was shaped in the form of an orange crystal, obviously to represent amber. She mostly just waved at people not really wanting to demonstrate her powers. Then the cheers somehow managed to get even louder than they were before.
It was the ninja's float. Unlike the other elemental masters, since they were a team they got a bigger float than the others ,but they only had one float. They were all smiling and waving at the people with one of them doing spinjitzu occasionally or they might use their powers here and there. When the Ninja's float passed by, Cole managed to somehow spot Alex in the crowd and yelled, "Hey Number one fan!", while waving at Alex specifically and doing a rock blast for him.
Alex had never felt so embarrassed in his life to be called out like that. His face was beet red after that embarrassment.
"So how do you know Cole well enough to be called out like that?"
"Huh what are the odds?" Thought Alex. "That Nya would just happen to be next to me in the crowd."
"I work at Chen's noodle house." Alex responded. "He came in to eat and the first thing I said was that he was my favorite ninja. As you can obviously tell he made sure to remind me that he remembers what I said."
She smiled at that. "Not surprising that he would make fun of you for it considering the first thing you did was fanboy. Though I have to ask, what about him makes him your favorite? Normally, the favorites are Lloyd because he is the green ninja or my brother , Kai, because he is considered the cute one." She asked
"Honestly I don't know why." Alex responded. " He just somehow is my favorite. Anyway, since you asked a question, do you mind if I ask one?"
"I can't promise that I can answer ,but sure ask anyway." she answered.
"Why aren't you up there on the float with them?" Alex asked.
"Because I am not an elemental master. I am Samurai X. I can't be up there even though I helped a lot during the battle." She responded with annoyance clear in her voice at the fact that others weren't acknowledged for helping in the battle.
Alex knew he was about to head into dangerous territory and change the series already ,but he honestly thinks that more good would come from Nya knowing that she is the elemental master of water early then her finding out later.
"But didn't you tell me Kai was your brother just a second ago." Alex asked with fake confusion.
"Yeah ,but what does that have to do with anything?" she asked.
"Humor for a second ,but you do know that most elements are passed biologically ,right?"
"Yes of course I know that! I live with the Ninja, how could I not know that!" she answered with anger. She was clearly starting to get fed up with the conversation and that Alex was possibly undermining her intelligence.
"Alright, but are you aware that the previous elemental masters of fire and water were married."
At that Nya stopped dead in her tracks. She had a clear look of shock on her face as she started putting the pieces together. "You don't mean that…" she said, leading off.
"Yes Nya, since your brother has fire that means you should have water. Nya, you are the elemental master of water" Alex responded.
Nya stood there for a second and then she promptly fainted falling to the ground.
"Huh, they weren't kidding in the show about her not being ready for the news." Alex thought.
He picked her up and carried her bridal style. They were luckily next to the park. So Alex carried her to a bench and sat her down on it. He then sat next to her waiting for her to wake up since he wasn't just going to leave her passed out by herself. That was just asking for something bad to happen.
Eventually, someone arrives that Alex recognizes and knows that he wouldn't be happy.
Kai
Kai saw Alex and then saw Nya passed out next to him.
"What have you done to my sister!?" Kai yelled at Alex.
Alex knew that Kai was hot headed and would jump to conclusions probably ,but this was a little bit ridiculous.
"I haven't done anything to her." Alex responded.
"Then why is she knocked out next to you?" Kai asked, aka demanded to know.
"She passed out while we were talking ,so I carried her to a bench and waited for her to either wake up or one of you guys to find her." Alex answered
At this Kai visibly started to calm down. Also at that moment Cole showed up and seeing them walked over.
" What happened here?" Cole asked.
"Nya passed out and Mr. Hot headed over here started making accusations." Alex responded.
"So nothing surprising at all." Cole answered making fun of Kai
"What else was I supposed to think when I saw my sister unconscious over here?" Kai rebutted
"That she was okay and might have passed out. Like any normal person would have thought." Alex responded.
Kai was about to argue back when Nya started to wake up.
She looked at Kai and said "I had the weirdest dream that someone told me I was the elemental master of water and asked why I wasn't in the parade."
"Wasn't a dream Nya that actually happened." Alex responded
Nya then promptly fainted again.
"First time sorta made sense ,but the second time c'mon really." Alex thought in exasperation.
"What does she mean when she says she is the elemental master of water?" Kai asked Alex.
"Exactly that. She should be the elemental master of water." Alex answered.
Cole chose to speak this time. "But how is that possible? Master Wu hasn't told us or Nya that she is the elemental master of water."
"Well that's the million dollar question isn't it ,but she has to be the elemental master of water." Alex looked at Kai then. " Your parents were the elemental master of fire and water. You inherited the fire element while your sister inherited water."
"How do you know this when we had no idea?" Kai asked in confusion.
"I work at the museum and I recently got a history book about the elemental masters. In it there was a huge family tree with the elemental masters and who was who. It showed that the previous elemental masters of fire and water were married." Alex answered. The part about the family tree was actually true. There was a page dedicated to showing the family tree of the elemental masters.
"Are you 100% sure about this?" Kai asked.
"Well unless your parents cheated on each other ,which I doubt, then yes I am 100% sure about this." Alex answered.
"That still doesn't make sense why our sensei didn't tell us." said Kai in even more confusion.
"Well that's kind of your problem. Maybe you should ask him? If that is all then I'm gonna head back to my apartment." Alex answered, turning away from them since he assumed they had things covered now.
"Before you leave I just want to say thanks." Kai said. " and I'm sorry for having jumped to conclusions about you having done something to her."
"It's fine." Alex answered and with that he started walking away.
On his way back he saw Skylor who was arguing with a vendor.
"What do you mean I can't buy this? I have the money for it." Skylor asked with a fed up voice.
" Sorry, but I won't sell to someone like you." responded the vendor who then turned away from her.
Alex walked up to her. "Hey what was that about?"
Skylor started walking with Alex scrambling to catch up with her.
"Oh it was nothing, just some dick of a vendor who refused to sell to me since I'm Chen's daughter." Skylor answered with anger.
"Please tell me that this isn't a common occurrence." Alex asked.
"I wish I could say it wasn't ,but sadly it is. Not surprising since my father probably murdered some of these people's relatives and since they can't take it out on my father they instead decide that I am a good target for their anger." She answered with anger mixed with some sadness. " I just wished that people would see me for me and not for who my father is."
"I'm sorry that they can't see that either." Alex answered with sympathy. He placed his hand on her shoulder in comfort.
"Thanks ,but you have nothing to be sorry about. You are one of the few who don't blame me for what my father did and I appreciate it." Skylor thanked him.
"No problem! It's what any decent person would do."
"Well it seems to me there are very few decent people in the world then." she responded.
"You know if you give me the money I could probably go back and buy you whatever you wanted from the vendor." Alex suggested to her.
"Nah, knowing what a jerk he is. I don't want to buy from him anymore." She answered.
"Why don't we hang out and just play some of the carnival games?"
" I don't have any money to play the games." Alex answered.
"That's fine. I'll just pay for the games for you." Skylor said.
"Are you sure about this?" Alex asked "This won't just come out of my paycheck will it?"
Skylor laughed at that. "Now that's a thought isn't it. If you don't win the game then I take it out of your paycheck."
"I'm serious about this!" Alex said with a partially annoyed face
"I know you are ,but that's why it's fun to tease you about it." Skylor said with a smile.
"Fine, I'll hang out with you." Alex answered and with that they walked off to enjoy the rest of the festival together.
