Walking through a meadow Moriyama was watching Masato, trying to find a way to bring up the incident in the forest he had already held back for two days but he knew he had to find a way to bring it up. Speeding up to match Masato he would tap him on the shoulder resulting in his partner to turn and look at him, Quickly writing in his notepad he would present it to Masato.
"I think it's time we talk about what happened in the forest." Masato read and continued walking, clearly tired from how his voice lazed.
"If we talk about it will you stop annoying me about it." Moriyama was trying very hard to not outright berate Masato, he almost killed a child! And that child didn't even know better about what the demon actually was. "We'll talk about this when we reach the village." Masato spoke tiredly. Moriyama wanted to flat out force him to talk right now, but he decided to push it to the side till they reach an inn or some kind of resting place. They had already spent a long time on the road and he was already using his all to not just fall asleep on the ground.
Keiichi Village
The morning was about to arrive. The sky a beautiful mixture of red, orange, and purple. Moriyama looked at the sunrise trying to avoid thinking about the talk he was going to have with Masato. He wasn't very confrontational, and definitely towards the ones he loved the most. "I hope Yuichiro-kun, and Muichiro-kun are doing alright." He thought, but like a fly the events of the forest would rear it's ugly head. The crimson colored snow, the lifeless eyes of the poor girl, the way the boy screamed like he lost everything, the way they truthfully stated that the demon was their god. It made him sick, and the thought of Masato attempting to kill an innocent child was like salt on an infected wound. It made him sick to his core.
"Hurry up... I already rented the room." Masato said while yawning. Moriyama would be knocked out his thoughts as he would hastily follow Masato as they went down the hallway, Moriyama could've swore the hallway was getting longer and his feet where being weighed down, it felt like twenty pound weights where being added to his leg's with each step down the hallway. The idea of arguing with his only friend horrified him. What if Masato starts hating him? What if he causes Masato to attack him? There were almost endless outcomes. Somehow, they had made it to their room, entering it was way nicer than the one they had stayed at in Minami. Masato walked over to the closet, taking out a futon and laying it flat before sitting on it.
Moriyama would copy Masato, taking out the futon, and sitting on it. Both partners looked at each other, both didn't want to have this conversation, but Moriyama knew he had to. Masato just didn't want to hear this and just wanted to sleep. Moriyama seeing Masato not making any action would begin to write before showing Masato. "Tell me, why would you attack that child?"
"I already told you. He sided with the enemy." Moriyama could hear the apathy in Masato's voice. The fact he could say that about a misled child was appalling.
"He had no clue that was a demon! He couldn't have known better!"
"I'll put it simply. That boy could've been found by a kizuki or Muzan himself, they could then use him as a spy in the corp. Putting everyone at risk, and that boy knew I was going to kill that demon and he jumped in front of me. Not my fault he has a death wish." Moriyama slowly could understand why exactly he did it, but he had no right to kill another innocent human.
"Even if so, what gives you the right to kill another human?" Masato felt similarly, but that individual was a threat not just to slayers but also for all of humanity; there was no way he was going to let him threaten the entirety of humanity.
"...Even so he threatened the world, and could've caused the extinction of humanity. It's just being rational... One person or all of humanity... I'm tired of this conversation. I'm going to sleep." Masato then laid down on his side facing away from Moriyama.
Moriyama again could understand, but he believed there was a better way. He did agree that he was tired of the conversation, but he still wanted to continue it. Internally deciding to let it rest for now he would turn over slowly, falling asleep, hoping his friend could come to his senses and that this wouldn't hurt their relationship.
Both partners would leave the inn walking around the village as they didn't recognize either one's existence. They both decided to just get through with this day so they both can just hopefully leave this behind. Both continued walking towards the sound of rushing water.
A black and white striped blur rushed through the battlefield the ground dark from mud. Five demons stood, all of which being identical except the second most to the left, who was significantly larger and bulkier, all having three cat-like pupils, black sclera, bright yellow irises, long black hair, and lime green claws.
"Stop running, and just let me devour you!" One of the demons yelled its voice raspy and gurgled as the individual cut off one of the demon's heads as he stopped slowly sliding before stopping, his gaiter's and sandals covered in mud. Obanai was exhausted. He watched as the demon he had just cut the head off of fade as the demon behind the rest swelled up as bubbles appeared across its body. Splitting in half as both sides regenerated, he had a theory that if he cut off the main demon's head the rest would disappear, but he couldn't get anywhere close enough.
Still trying to find out a way to kill the demon. He felt the wind pickup as he turned, seeing four air claws cut through one of the demons as it got split into four separate parts. Wind Breathing Second Form: Claws-Purifying Wind.
"Sorry, to interfere but we have a test to finish." Obanai saw as the dust cleared as two individuals both holding swords, The second one rushed forward as he beheaded the sliced demon continuing as wind channeled into his blade, jumping and moving his body to cutting off the demon's head. Wind Breathing Sixth Form Modified: Horizontal Black Wind Mountain Mist.
Obanai seizing the opportunity would rush forward as water channeled around his blade as he breathed deeply Water Breathing Third Form: Flowing Dance.
Dancing around the demon he would decapitate the leftmost demon, continuing on to the main demon as he would attempt to cut off it's head, but was quickly pushed back as a large demon swiped it's arm causing Obanai to fly to the side falling and rolling in the mud. The main demon, seeing it's chance, would summon two new demons, and would run with all it's might. "No good, there's no way I can get there in time." Masato turned to look at Moriyama who was dealing with both demons, and the stranger who was trying to keep up with the massive demon.
Deciding to help the others instead, he would rush toward Obanai, breathing deeply he would slide under the demon, feeling the cold mud hit his back as he would slash from under the demon causing it to rise into the air, Wind Breathing Fourth Form: Rising Dust Storm.
Obanai, seeing the demon vulnerable in the air, would concentrate his breathing, as rushing water manifested from around his blade as he jumped forward Water Breathing First Form: Water Surface Slash. Swiftly decapitating the demon, Obanai would land behind the now headless creature as he would wait for Masato to get up.
"Where did the demon go." Obanai said, instantly turning and leaving to pursue the demon once Masato gave a general direction.
"Didn't even ask if I was alright... I never thought I'd find someone worse than Satow." Masato hearing the sound of metal slicing through flesh would realize Moriyama still hadn't defeated the two demons, Sprinting towards the leftmost demon he would concentrate on his breathing, Wind Breathing Seventh Form: Gale, Sudden Gusts. Leaping into the air he would use the momentum to swing his blade sending a large gust of wind towards the attacking demon, flinging it a few dozen feet back. Landing on the ground he would position himself in between the demon and Moriyama, allowing his partner to fight the right-clone.
Hearing the sound of teeth cracking, Masato would focus on the demon who was seething with rage. "Why don't you just act like good cattle and be devoured!" It yelled its voice raspy as it rushed forward, aiming to blind Masato with a diagonal claw strike. Maneuvering around the attack he would swing his blade vertically, severing the demon's left arm, before quickly turning, focusing his breath and concentrating the wind into the edge of his blade, quickly slicing downward generating a singular claw-like attack, cutting the demon's right arm clean off. "Wind Breathing Second Form: Claws-Purifying Wind!"
Turning his blade to the side, Masato would attempt to finish it off by doing a horizontal slash towards the demon's neck, but before he could the demon would begin to liquify leaving behind a pool of blood.
"Come on... That was going to be so cool." Masato thought as he noticed the same thing happening to Moriyama's opponent. Running over he would quickly snap his fingers getting Moriyama's attention. "Let's go help that snake guy, the demon went this way." Moriyama would nod, sprinting off in the direction Masato was heading.
Obanai would quickly dodge under a giant claw attack, as trees behind him fell being cut cleanly in half. In front of him was the clone demon, however, it was mutilated. With five giant arms all having foot long claws on each hand, luckily the demon was just flailing attacks acting like a cornered animal, Obanai found it pitiful, Water Breathing Second Form: Water Wheel. Front flipping over a claw attack Obanai would cut off one of the demon's arms, watching the demon's attacks become even more erratic as trees would begin to fall around.
Obanai would watch with irritation as the severed arm slowly regrew. Needing to end this quickly he would rush forward, trying to weave around the demon's attacks barely dodging the attacks as he would get attacked from all around. Feeling small cuts across his body he would concentrate his breathing channeling water around his blade. Water Breathing Ninth Form: Splashing Water Flow, Turbulent. Jumping around he would barely have his feet on the ground, dodging the erratic attacks, jumping through the erratic attacks leaving their range, swinging the blade horizontally he would behead the demon. Landing on the right side of the demon. He would watch as it slowly turned to ash cursing him the whole time. Hearing movement in the forest he would prepare for possibly another demon. Only to see Masato and Moriyama rushing through the brush.
"Oh, you've already handled the demon, sorry we interrupted your mission we just thought it would be better for us to work together."
"It's no problem at all." Obanai would then turn trying to leave but Masato would attempt to stop him.
"Wait, we have a favor to ask... We're trying to find some demons, but it's quite difficult for us to find them. Could we follow you around on missions till we finish our quota." Obanai wasn't a fan of the idea to say the least. He didn't want a two possible liabilities with him, and they could be spies.
"No, thanks I prefer to be alone." Obanai would state before rushing off hopefully leaving them. Hearing the sound of twigs behind him he would turn to see the two following him. Getting irritated he would stop moving and face them.
"I already told you I don't want you two following me." Obanai would say to them venom in his voice. As he would watch Masato closely, prepared to act depending on how he responded.
Masato would look carefully at Obanai, noticing how tense he was. Putting on a warm smile he would begin to try and negotiate with Obanai. "Look, we won't be in your hair for to long. Besides if we join you we could learn how to be better demon slayers, and can help you during missions." Obanai would look at Masato with skepticism still not trusting these two, but he did bring up a good point. "For all I know they could be spies... But if he is being truthful then he does bring up a good point."
Masato would watch the smile still on his face as Obanai makes a decision. "...Who is your cultivator?" Obanai would say relaxing slightly, still keeping his guard up as he would note Moriyama's arrival.
"Yasuhiro Koji." Masato said as Obanai would be intrigued. It wasn't too uncommon for former hashira to train future slayers, but that was assuming the hashira could make it to old age in the first place.
Masato would wait as Obanai called, wrote, and gave something to his crow. Watching it fly off as he heard Obanai begin to speak.
"I sent my crow to confirm what you just said. Till then I can't trust you, so if you want to follow along I need to see your swords." Masato would hesitate, even if he was in Obanai's situation he would probably do the same thing. He didn't want to give up the one thing that ensures he could at least retaliate in a worst case scenario.
Moriyama, looking at Masato's hesitance would go first, pulling his sword out of his obi, before handing it to Obanai who would take the sword, and would wait for Masato to give up his. Masato, looking at Moriyama who would nod towards him, would reluctantly give him his sword. Obanai would keep his guard up in case one of them had a hidden weapon. "You'll be leading, I'll stay in the back. Just head in this direction there's a nearby town."
Every alarm bell in Masato's mind was going off, first giving up his weapon then while vulnerable he had to lead this guy to a village. It was practically gambling with his life. Unsurprisingly Moriyama would begin to sprint in the direction Obanai had given him much to Masato's dismay. Looking at Obanai who still was on guard he would relent and would sprint off with Moriyama. Hearing Obanai behind him.
Yanagiya
After what felt like an eternity of traveling we had finally arrived at the town, 'snake creep' was talking about. "Wait... I don't even know his name." I really wanted to punch myself for not even asking this weirdo's name and rank. For all I know he could be some random person who was posing as a slayer.
Turning back I'd see our 'guide' cross the river that almost encircled the town. "Hey... I don't think I got your name." I said as the stranger kept walking. "It doesn't really matter since we're not going to see each other much." It took everything not to flat out attack snake creep, but I somehow found the strength to tolerate his smug attitude.
"Alright snake creep-san." I'd say smugly. Judging by snake creep's eyes he didn't find it amusing.
"Don't call me "snake creep."
"Ok, then what do you want me to call you?"
"You're to address me as 'Slayer-sa-"
"Yeah no I'm not calling you that snake creep-san." Snake creep was pissed judging by his expression, not wanting to hear his complaining I'd keep walking ignoring his remarks towards me and my family.
Walking over to Moriyama who was simply watching us with a disappointed look towards me. "I just asked for his name." I'd say as I walked past him, hearing him audibly sigh as he would continue walking behind me.
Walking through the quaint town I would ask some towns folk if there was a nearby inn. After confirmation and getting the location we would walk to the destination. Upon arriving I would try to rent a room for two, but would feel Moriyama tap me on the shoulder.
"What." I'd say as he would scribble something down before showing me.
"There's three of us. You can at least try to be nice." Leaning past Moriyama to look at snake creep I'd ask him if he wanted to be in the same room as us.
"No. Even if you were telling the truth I still don't want to be around you two. Especially you." He'd say while pointing at me for the last bit.
"See, snake creep-dono, doesn't want to be with us peasants." I'd say to Moriyama who wasn't very amused. Surprisingly, snake creep didn't respond to my taunts. Probably because he knew I didn't care what he would respond with.
Receiving our room number I'd split with snake creep before climbing a flight of stairs followed by Moriyama as we would make our way to our room. Almost like it was a ritual I'd take the futon out of the closet, lay it on the ground, and get in it. Hearing Moriyama's shuffling to setup his. Rolling over and beginning to drift to sleep. Feeling my mind go elsewhere.
