Dimensions Crossing: Look Both Ways When Crossing Dimensions

Chapter 1

Tuesday, August 15

Danny slowly dropped to his feet in the parking lot of Park Bank, giving a careful look around as he let gravity win. He ran a hand through his white hair, taking a deep breath, before taking the steps to the front door.

Tucker and Maddie both had suggested the local bank, and he had already been here with his mother to sign for the account they were setting up for his ghostly persona, but it felt imposing to be there on his own. The plan had originally been that Fenton went with Maddie and Phantom came with Tucker but Tucker had called a moment ago, letting him know something had come up at city hall and he couldn't make it. "Flake," Danny cursed under his breath at his best friend.

Danny pushed the doors opened and was greeted by a line of teller counters, the two behind the counters calling out in a friendly manner. He stepped up to the closest one, looking down at a blonde haired woman sitting at the handicap station, and offered a polite smile at her wide gaze. "Hi, I'm here to sign some paperwork."

"Danny Phantom, right?" the teller at the next station asked, getting him to look over and see a younger brunette he recognized from when he was here with his mother. He gave her a nod as she locked a drawer below the counter. "I'm Carol. I helped Mrs. Fenton and her son the other day, though I thought they said Mayor Foley was coming with you."

"He called right before I got here," Danny threw off as he watched her walk behind the older lady and to a half door that separated the lobby from their space. "Something happened at city hall, said he'd be here tomorrow."

"Come in here and we'll get your signature," the woman said, walking into the middle office she had used the other day. She shook the mouse as he followed her inside, the two taking seats on opposite sides of the table. "We won't be able to get you a debit card until you get Mayor Foley in here, sorry."

"No, it's fine," Danny said politely as he sat with his hands in his lap.

Carol typed away at something on the screen he couldn't see before reaching for the mouse. "I don't know if they told you, but when Mrs. Fenton was in here to start making this account, we had a little bit of a problem," she admitted. "No one in the bank had made an account for someone in your situation before."

"Most ghosts don't get the opportunity to make money," Danny offered, remembering she had called in her manager only for the two to have to call for advice from higher up. He was just thankful Tucker had already okayed everything with the bank's CEO before they had even started talking in person, knowing without that they would've had more of a headache.

Carol turned to give the printer behind her a glance before letting out a sound of disappointment. "Right, that printer bit the dust yesterday," she mumbled to herself. She turned back to the computer screen and hit a few buttons before pushing herself to her feet. "I'll be right back with those papers," she offered as she walked around the desk to leave the room.

Danny looked down at his lap, hoping there wasn't anything more they would need of him, only for his eyes to land on the corner of what looked like a children's book. He gave a look out the door just behind him, seeing the lady talking with her co-worker as she stood beside an older printer, before using his foot to slide the book closer to himself. His eyes grew wide as he took in a green and black back cover, the image below the synopsis catching his attention and giving him a panic. It was a picture of him, in mid-morph, before Sam had made his logo. He picked it up and flipped it over to the front to see himself fighting a ghost he didn't recognize dressed in Shakespearian clothes. Opening the cover, he was startled to see himself staring at the camera and Mr. Lancer, with his arms crossed, talking to him. A lose piece of paper caught his attention, hanging out of the back of the book only to be alerted by footsteps coming back in his direction.

Danny shoved the book into his pocket as Carol stepped back into the room, forcing his eyes and breathing back to normal.

"Sorry about that," Carol said with a forced laugh. "That printer out there is from the last century and shows it some days."

"It's okay," Danny said, mirroring the forced laugh.

Carol sat down the papers before him, showing him first the paper that had all four of their names on it. She pulled a pen from her side of the desk and sat it beside the paper before pointing in the spot with his ghostly name printed under it. "We'll start with a signature here," she said.

Danny picked up the pen and signed his name, glad he had figured out a signature years ago for his Phantom self that looked unique enough.

"You've had some practice at that, huh?" Carol asked, shifting through the papers to the second to the last. "And here too, please."

Danny signed on the line as he admitted, "Well, when you're getting chased around town, you get good real quick at autographing things." A real laugh escaped him as he sat down the pen and looked up at the banker. "Weirdest thing I've been asked to sign was a diaper."

"Hopefully not used," Carol said, smiling at him. She collected the papers and straightened them against the table. "I'll be right back, just gotta go copy those pages for you."

Danny sat back in the chair, glad he was almost done. His smile dropped as he reached into his pocket and found the book once more. He separated it from the loose sheet of paper and pulled it out, unfolding it to see a handwritten list titled Powers and Ideas. His eyes fell to the right side where the creator had drawn him flying with his feet turned into a tail. Right below it was a skeleton of what he would look like in that pose with two lines pointing at his legs and a question mark. Most of the page was written in black ink, excluding a green highlighter that had been used to give his ghost half a blush and a red pen that wrote, "Dan placed medallion inside to be inseparable." He started going down the list of what the creator had written, reading off software fusion/data form, dream invasion, and Ghostly Wail before he registered once again the banker was on her way back into the office. He folded the paper back and shoved it back in his pocket before smiling as she walked back through the door with a blue folder in her hand.

"Here you go," Carol said, holding out the folder for him. "That's everything until Mayor Foley gets here."

Danny rose to his feet, a part of him thinking he was stealing the book but reminding himself no one outside of a list of people should even know what was in that book or the paper. He took the folder and offered, "Thanks. So I just come back after Tucker signs?"

"Yeah, come back and we'll get another signature and you can create the pin number you want for the card," Carol informed. "We create them here in the bank so you won't have to wait any longer than that for it."

"Thank you," Danny said, swapping what hand held the folder so he could hold out his hand.

Carol took it and politely gave it a shake as she smiled back. "Glad to be your neighborhood bank, Danny."
