Across the ocean, the voices of sailors were heard nearby, full of spirit and will, the crew of a galleon sang loud and clear.
"We're outward bound for Vallipo Bay, way, ay, roll n' go!"
The imposing ship roamed the waters at full sail, made of ebony wood with blood red ornaments standing out all over it's hull, the beakhead had a statue of a woman in black dress armed with an axe in one hand and a raven sitting at the fingers in the other.
"Get crackin', m' lads, 'tis a hell o' a way! Timme rollickin' randy dandy o!"
The flag was red, with the symbol of a skull with sharp fangs between two crossed scimitars in white, the skull's eyes notably furious.
"Heave a pawl, oh, heave away, way, ay, roll n' go!"
The crew worked with concentration but energetically participated in the singing, and their captain led the song with a smile, his hands steady on the black marble steering wheel set with rubies and emeralds.
"The anchor's on board and the cable's all stored, time rollickin' randy dandy o!"
The captain heard the crew repeat the same verse in ending intonation, raising a sharp-clawed hand high in celebration as they finished. "Great, lads and lasses!" He laughed, hearing the excited shouts of the sailors.
The captain was a young man, with short red hair swept to the right and undercut on the left, a face with green eyes and skin in a light red with scales in strong tones highlighted by his considerably uncovered body such as the shoulders, forearms and cheeks. He had fin-like ears, its eyes had a small protective layer that gave a slight yellowish tone, with gills on its neck and spiny fins on its forearms and heels in redder tones.
He was lightly dressed, wearing a mere red button-up shirt with the top two unbuttoned, short white pants with a brown belt carrying a pair of scimitars and two black leather pouches, white bands on each arm and a gold ring on each ring and middle finger with silver earrings.
Beside him, a little further back, was another larger figure, the boatswain. A man also young, with sage green hair done in dreadlocks tied in a half bun, having his darker roots visible, sharp and reptilians golden eyes watched the sea and he had dark skin with some sections with green scales exposed through his body like in the neck, arms, part of the torso and more that was covered by the clothes.
The green-haired young man comically wore a large white captain's coat with black details and shoulder pads, having a black shirt underneath with a open neck leaving part of his chest exposed, allowing a partial view of a pair of tattooed wings, white pants with a black belt with a gold buckle and high black boots also with gold buckles. A massive sword was on his back in a holster, a chain attached to the hilt. He had a gold chain earring in his left ear and a hoop in his right, with silver rings on both ring fingers.
And lastly, a figure sat on the stern edge, his gaze turned to the sea on the horizon. He was a young man with blue spiky hair to the right with undercut on both sides, electric blue eyes and bluish skin with scales. Like the captain, he had all the traits of a triton, although some were hidden by his clothing.
He wore an old-fashioned white shirt underneath a long antique red coat with clear noble ornaments on the back and chest in black, navy blue pants, black boots, and a necklace with a trident pendant around his neck. His only piece out of place with his other clothes was a red headband tied around his head, and the guandao he had by his side didn't match his nobler look either.
Looking at the crew, the vast majority consisted of tritons just like the captain and the blue triton sitting at the stern. But a few dark elves and a naga or two like the boatswain stood out among the mass of tritons.
The blue one turned his gaze, rising to his feet and picking up his guandao as he joined the captain and boatswain. "Scarlet, remind me again, how many days have passed since we left the Themyscira's bay?"
"Four days." The captain recalled, glancing briefly at the boatswain. "And by the way. Still sore from fighting that amazon, Sage?"
The now-named Sage touched his left shoulder uncomfortably at the question, memories of the fight resurfacing in his mind. "Don't remind me, it hurts just to think of it. I know amazons are strong, but that Nikos in particular… You had to try flirting with one of the Huntresses of Artemis? And one who's an amazon on top of that?" The naga questioned the blue triton, who raised his hands in defense.
"I had no idea, okay?"
"Oh, sure." Scarlet rolled his eyes. "The Amazon carrying a boar carcass on her back and dressed like a huntress with the waning moon tattooed on her arm is definitely not a Huntress of Artemis."
"Who would have thought that the runaway prince of the triton kingdom would be this dense." The boatswain chuckled, causing the said prince to huff in frustration.
"You can't deny it's funny, Neptune." The captain agreed, leaving the blue-haired young man even more downcast.
"I like it more when Sun is around." Neptune muttered, leaning on his guandao planted on the wooden deck. "At least he don't keep the jokes for too long."
"I'm sorry, but I wouldn't pass up an opportunity to mock someone of the Vasilias' royal bloodline." Scarlet apologized, though he sounded lighter than before. "I have nothing against you. But your ancestors exiled mine from the oceans over two thousand years ago, you know?"
Vasilias lowered his head. "I am really sorry about that…"
"Don't be. You apologized before, and I accepted." The redhead replied, looking back for a moment. "My disdain is with your family, not you. I wouldn't have taken you on my ship if that were the case."
"But they would probably think you're crazy for helping the heir to the throne of Chryvatos who ran away from home and has been missing for three years." Sage commented in a playful tone, making both tritons roll their eyes.
"They can send as many as they want, I'm not going back to the palace." Neptune steadied. "I will not sit on a throne built on top of corpses and lies."
"I wouldn't shed a tear if Chryvatos became one of the empires that fell throughout Remnant's history." The captain declared. "I call it karma."
"On that we agree." The blue-haired young man nodded, returning to the stern edge. "Anyway. How long until we reach Toramura?"
"We should arrive tomorrow at dusk if the weather doesn't change suddendly, we'll resupply there and pick up the reward for the stolen shipment we recovered yesterday."
"Are you sure that shipment was coming from Toramura?" Sage questioned doubtfully.
"It was coming from the same route, and it definitely wasn't privateers." Scarlet answered with certainty. And he couldn't resist a laugh. "I still find it amusing that those idiots were complaining that we stole the shipment they stole."
"No honor among thieves, hmm?" Neptune joked, making the redhead laugh again.
"To each their code, Neptune. I have mine, and my crew follows. And in my code? It's stolen, I'll steal. It's not stolen, well, I'll certainly consider stealing."
"Eh, it's still better than living in a place where civilians are jailed for disagreeing with the nobles." The Vasilias relented, starting to walk down the stairs to the main deck. The triton was greeted briefly by a dark elf manning the mainmast along with other triton, the prince waving back as he made his way to the ship's nets.
The blue-haired royalty leaned on the edge, watching the sea with a bored expression. It had been a few months since he had joined the crew of The Omen. Three, four months to be exact? He didn't counted, it was hard to tell. It was a difficult start, but the Vasilias was getting used to his new surroundings.
The crew being primarily tritons, it was obvious that most did not like the heir to the throne bathed in innocent blood, but they had learned to appreciate the young royalty over time. Captain David was a big reason for that, of course, as was Boatswain Ayana. Neptune couldn't thank them enough for that, they were the ones who got him out of that filthy cave he was living in after fleeing a village where bounty hunters had found him.
The triton heard footsteps approaching, turning his head to the side and seeing another triton with a skin tone more like seaweed, with long hair tied in green braids that lightened at the ends with a black bandana on her head tied in a bun, black eyes and dressed in a white button-down shirt, a black vest and black pants with brown boots. A pair of silver earrings were in her ears, and a string of pearls was around her neck. "Ilyn."
"Neptune." Ilyn greeted him, smiling. "You look downhearted."
"Bored to tell you the truth." He corrected, sighing. "You know, listening to pirate stories is fun. But sailing can be pretty boring."
"Why do you think there's so much sea shanties? During the day it's almost always work. Music is the way to make sailing tolerable." The green-haired young woman pointed, leaving the young noble with a sweatdrop.
"Yeah, I noticed." Neptune said, slightly disappointed. "Reality doesn't always match expectations anyway. But it's still better than being hunted-"
"Captain David!" The raised voice of the watchman from the topmost lookout caught the attention of the crew, looking up to where the watchman, a triton, was pointing skyward. "Comet!"
"Comet? Lower sails!" Scarlet took his hands off the wheel as he started to walk down to the main deck with Sage, the crew on the masts following the order and clearing the sails out of the way. Now the crew of The Omen had a better view of the sky, most of them gathering on the main deck.
Neptune squinted his eyes, blocking out the annoyance of the sun to improve his vision. A small bright spark revealed itself in the blue sky, and it grew, descending to the ground. "That's fast. Too fast."
Sage edged closer to the edge, focusing on the spark intently. The Ayana's eyes widened after a quick analysis. "And it's coming our way."
"Shit…" The captain muttered in frustration, turning to his crew quickly. "Sailors! Hoist the sails, now! Whoever knows wind magic, make the wind favor us! Tritons! Stir the water, now!"
Immediately, the crew began to move. Pirates went to the masts, raising the sails as fast as possible while two dark elves started to be covered by a light green aura in front of the main mast, a wave of wind starting to emerge.
The crew's various tritons took to the edges, hanging from the ledges, nets or even the outside of the ship while using their free hands towards the ocean. A blue glow emanated from their hands, and the water began to move unnaturally.
Sage ran to the helm, going to steer the ship out of the comet's path while Scarlet helped manipulate the water flow. The brightness in the sky grew more and more, as well as the sound of the flames that covered it.
Neptune, also on the edge of The Omen helping, saw the ship move out of the way seconds before the comet hit the water. However, the force was massive, easily affecting the flow of the waters and creating massive waves that began to push the ship.
Everyone held onto something as well as they could, but many fell into the sea, including Scarlet, who sank a few meters into the water. The triton was bewildered for a moment, shaking his head in an attempt to recover.
Looking around, he saw several of his crew nearby, some unconscious. A momentary despair rose in his chest, until he saw Ilyn hold one of the unconscious ones, nodding to him.
Turning his head to the side, he saw Neptune do the same, as did every other available triton. The captain smiled, but from the corner, the David noticed a glow sinking towards the deep abyss. The redhead looked at it in curiosity, starting to swim towards it.
Thanks to his nature, he was fast, his eyes gleaming in the darkness that engulfed the farther down he went. The light sparkled, losing its strength more and more, and the triton could finally see where it came from.
At the bottom of the sea, sinking, was a young woman. With black hair with a white bangs, dark skin and dressed in a simple white tunic. However, the most striking thing was not that, but the black feathered wings on her back and the cracked and black halo on her head.
Back on the surface, the crew climbed back onto the galleon, anyone who could carry those who had collapsed in the chaos throwed them back into the ship, and Ilyn threw a nagi back into the vessel, stepping in with her as she watched Sage descend to the deck giving orders. "Go down there and see if we have any damage to the hull, if so, close it! Drain as much water as you can and leave the sails down until we are sure of the state of the entire crew!"
Ilyn glanced back to see Neptune rise as he threw another unconscious crewman into The Omen. Ayana immediately noticed the two and walked over to them. "Have you seen Scar?"
"He was with us in the water, but he was awake, not falling." Vasilias replied, looking around doubtfully.
Ilyn scrambled to her feet, heading for the edge as her eyes roamed the ocean, looking for any sign of the galleon captain. It didn't take long for her to see something emerge from the water, squinting her eyes to look better. "There!"
The boatswain went to her side with the Vasilias, noticing the silhouette of Scarlet swimming as he carried something. The David himself noticed the trio, shouting at them. "I think I found what fell!"
The green-haired young man went to help the redhead, and the crew watched their captain climb up not carrying something, but someone. Many gasped or widened their eyes when they saw the person Scarlet had found.
A dark elf blinked several times in disbelief. "A… A angel."
"A fallen angel." Neptune declared, equally surprised. "The wings and halo don't lie. This girl is a fallen."
"Have you ever seen a fallen angel?" One triton questioned, leaving the other beside him with a sweatdrop.
"Have you ever seen an angel?"
"... No." The triton admitted, shrugging. "There are stories of fallen angels. But they are rarer than sightings of angels outside the Ether."
"As if any Remnant race could go to the Ether without having to die first."
"Okay, okay, make room." Sage declared, stepping into the path. "Is she breathing?"
Scarlet checked the angel's pulse, sighing in relief as he felt it… and surprised by it, but that was another matter. "She's alive. I think without water in her lungs, I can hear her breathing."
"You'd better leave her in your cabin." Neptune suggested, receiving a nod from the captain, who took her in his arms. At this the boatswain looked at the crew seriously.
"Back to your posts! We're still going to Toramura!"
The sailors huffed but did as ordered, leaving the Ayana beside Neptune and Ilyn. The green triton put a hand on her chin in doubt, looking at the captain's cabin where Scarlet entered. "A fallen..."
…
Her eyes fluttered open, instantly catching the light of a candle on a plate on a side dresser. The fallen grunted, her eyes starting to adjust to the cabin lighting. Looking better, she noticed that she was sitting in an armchair in the center of the cabin.
"You woke up." Bright white eyes meet green eyes, seeing the captain of The Omen sitting in his jewel-encrusted chair with his back to an oval window with red curtains drawn back, showing the night sky and sea. Scarlet had his feet on the table, which held a statuette of Morrigan, presumably a bag of gold, and a picture facing him, among other things.
The fallen looked at her surroundings, scanning the cabin. In addition to the rear window, there was another one on the left, much wider and with wooden bars in front of a large table with a few things like a telescope, an exact miniature of the galleon, a wine red tricorn hat and a lamp. Next to the armchair was a terrestrial globe, and a decorated red rug was under her feet.
Paying closer attention to the dresser next to her, there was an open bronze cage, and looking to see who it belonged to, she saw a pink-breasted cockatoo on top of the armchair, watching her. And looking back slightly, she could see two bookshelves side by side filled with books. Near the double doors that served as the entrance to the cabin was a coat rack with a scarlet captain's coat hanging on it, and the bed was close by on the other side of the door.
The fallen heard the cockatoo's wings flap, flying toward the captain's table as Scarlet lifted his feet from it, lifting one of his seed-filled hands and offering it to the bird. "Who are you?"
"Scarlet David. Scar if you prefer to keep it casual, or Captain David if you prefer formality." The redhead introduced himself, rising from his chair. "Before you ask, it wasn't me who changed your clothes into dry ones. It was Ilyn, a member of my crew."
The fallen angel looked down at herself, seeing that she wore a simple white long-sleeved shirt with makeshift slits in the back for her wings and short gray pants. "What do you mean?"
"You don't remember?" David asked the angel, who continued with a confused expression. "You fell out of the sky like a comet, almost sinking my ship in the process."
"I fell?"
"In both senses, yes."
"Hmm?" The brunette hadn't realized it, but her gaze fell on her wings, finally noticing their black color. "Ah!" She jumped to her feet, startling both Scarlet and the cockatoo, who flew onto his owner's shoulder.
The galleon captain watched the angel touch her wings in disbelief, then lift a hand to her halo, running a finger carefully through it and feeling the cracks. "Are you fine?"
"Do I look fine?!" The brunette retorted back, her voice cracking for a moment. "Black wings and broken halo! You know very well what that means! I am a fallen angel!"
"I'm kind of lost here, ma'am." Scarlet declared, crossing his arms. The angel looked at the triton, who pointed at her. "You're a fallen angel... Who doesn't remember that you fell?"
"I…!" She would answer him, raising a finger in protest, but no words came out of her mouth. "I… I don't remember. I don't remember what happened to make me fall."
"You don't remember?"
"No…" The angel placed her hands on her head, clenching her teeths as she tried to force the memories back. "I remember being called by Ciel… And something happened, I can't remember what exactly."
"Ciel? Who is Ciel?"
"One of the angelic leaders of the Ether, and the angel I served."
"Are there angelic leaders on Ether?" Scarlet was in shock for a brief moment. "Hmm, I should have guessed that there is some sort of order in the Ether that serves the gods there."
"I remember a voice. Distorted and deep, saying something incomprehensible and…" The brunette placed a hand on her head, grunting in pain. "Ugh. That doesn't make sense."
"I think you should rest." David suggested, receiving a look from the fallen. "It will help you sort out your thoughts and memories, Miss…"
The angel sighed. "You can call me Bianca."
"Bianca, hmm? The whites in your eyes?" The captain questioned in an attempt to ease the tension, and was relieved to see her smile and wave.
"Without a last name, we angels don't have that between us."
"It makes sense." The redhead started toward the door, briefly petting the cockatoo's head. "I'll let the crew know you're awake, calm down their nerves. I'll be back later."
"You trust me like that to leave me alone in your cabin?"
"And what are you going to do? Steal my treasure chest? I doubt it would be of any use to you." Bianca glanced at the table, partially seeing a chest behind the chair.
"I'm thankful."
"You're welcome." With that, he left, leaving the angel alone in the cabin. The brunette sighed, throwing herself back into the chair as her wings closed around her, hiding her.
She again brought a hand to her head, feeling unrelenting pains once more. Her free hand tightened on the chair's armrest, and her halo glowed for a moment before dimming again.
The fall snarled, until she felt the pain slowly fade away. A smile crept onto her face, sinking back into the chair in relief as she closed her eyes. "Finally… No voices."
…
Adam remained inert as a kunai passed inches away from the side of his head, slamming into the wall behind him. In front of him, he watched two figures fighting skillfully, a certain nekomata and an animorph were in the arena.
A young woman with long black hair, glittering golden cat eyes, and fair skin stood to one side of the arena. She had feline ears on her head, and a tail stuck out from her waist, forking in half. She wore a short black kimono with long, wide sleeves, having a white obi as a belt and purple nightshades stylized through the garment with white edges. Thigh-high black stockings were on her legs, and purple sandals on her feet. Some accessories were notable for her attire, such as a pouch attached to each leg, armbands, and fingerless gloves. The brunette carried a black-bladed katana.
On the other side, there was another young woman with long brown hair tied in a ponytail that resembled a chameleon's tail, gray eyes with a slight bluish touch and tanned skin with visible darker marks scattered over the exposed parts of her body.
She wore a black shirt under a gray haori with a white nightshade emblem on the left breast, brown pants with matching boots. The brown-haired girl had fingerless gloves, the belt of her pants contained pouches coupled with others on her legs, and a pair of wakizashis were in her hands.
The nekomata squinted her eyes, being surrounded by a brief green glow and creating two exact copies of herself. The copies and the original crossed quickly and repeatedly, making the opponent snarl. She charged forward, swinging her wakizashis at one, but it revealed itself as a duplicate, dissipating in smoke.
From behind, she received a kick on her ankle, making her fall to her knees on the ground as her opponent's katana came towards her. The girl raised one of her blades, blocking the blow. Her opponent grunted, about to pull away, but the she used the other wakizashi to catch her opponent's weapon, throwing the sword away.
The brunette jumped back as her opponent rose, swinging her pair of dual swords in a threat. "What now, Blake?" She asked with a teasing smile, one that said Blake returned.
The nekomata opened the bag on her leg, pulling three kunais, she threw two against the animorph, who accurately reflected using her wakizashis. One of the kunai again passed inches close to Adam, and on this one he huffed, glaring at the two. She laughed nervously when she felt his stare, but… "Ah!"
She narrowly dodged the kunai Blake was holding, narrowly missing Blake's shoulder. "Eyes on the battle, Ilia." The nekomata advised, disappearing from the animorph's field of vision with a flash. The girl became alert, looking around in search of her target, until she heard what sounded like footsteps behind her.
She spun around, being immediately met with a kick to the face. The blow was quickly combined with a knee hit on the stomach, and Blake soon grabbed her arm, throwing her to the ground with her weapons falling. Before the animorph could even get up, the nekomata jumped on her while taking the form of a giant cat, snarling in her face.
The brown-haired girl sighed, slamming her hand on the arena floor in a gesture of surrender. The cat immediately leapt off, morphing back to her humanoid form as she went to grab her katana. "It's kind of unfair for you to use teleport when I have bad hearing, you know?"
"Isn't your hearing worse in your chameleon form?" The brunette questioned back, leaving the animorph with a sweatdrop.
"Yes. But you naturally have keen hearing in both forms, I don't." She countered as Adam entered the arena. "The only thing I keep in human form is my camouflage ability."
"You should use some magical conduit to compensate for your animorphs' lack of natural magic." The Taurus declared to the girl as he handed her wakizashis. "Perhaps a conductor that could be your ideal weapon. You're not doing so well with the wakizashi."
"I have to agree. Swords don't suit you very well." Blake said, joining the two.
Ilia huffed, nodding her head in understanding. "And what could I use? I've tried poles, maces, spears."
"You'll find your weapon, don't worry." The Taurus assured, turning his gaze to the nekomata. "And you seem to have learned how to teleport properly."
"It's not as tiring to use over short distances." The brunette commented, shrugging. "The hard part is balancing the magic cost. I usually use illusions, but more powerful spells are problematic…"
"It's a problem we can solve over the course of training. But…" The redhead smiled at the two, crossing his arms. "You two are progressing well."
The duo smiled. "Having the Bull King incarnation training us helps a lot." The animorph pointed in an amused tone, making the said one roll his eyes.
"Except it's not the Bull King training you, it's Adam Taurus." He said. "Anyway…" His gaze fell on Blake, who immediately sighed in dismay. "Oh, you know I can't do anything about it."
"Hmm?" Ilia stared doubtfully at the nekomata, who snarled in irritation.
"Another suitor with an appointment for today." Belladonna explained. "It's going to be another one I'm going to deny, of course, but it's still annoying to have to spend an entire date with him."
"Believe me, your parents hate this as much as you do. But the way things are going across the provinces, Ghira-san believes a meeting will be announced soon." Adam narrowed his eyes. "The local nobles are already irritated by the bandit attacks across the province and the lack of supplies coming in, if the Belladonnas start ignoring them..."
"They could try a coup." Ilia finished, receiving a nod from Taurus. "Wouldn't be the first time. The Animorph Province was born after taking the Baihus off the throne, after all."
"And to think that all this started because Chryvatos started to disrupt exports across the oceans since the heir to the throne disappeared…" The nekomata muttered in dismay. "Fine, I will."
"If it's any consolation, I met the suitor earlier today. He didn't seem happy about it either, it was probably forced by his parents. Maybe you two can end the date on friendly terms instead of the yelling that usually goes with most."
"I hope so…" The brunette sighed, starting to walk out of the arena towards the bamboo sliding doors that led out of the room.
At this both Ilia and Adam fell behind, and the animorph immediately put her hands to her face, growling in annoyance. "Ugh. How I wanted to punch those nobles in the face…"
"They would probably want you hanged for that." The redhead commented. "But I understand, it's annoying, these encounters are getting in the way of the training…"
"Yeah, training."
The Taurus smiled, staring at the young girl. "Ah, yes, your frustration has a different reason. The girl sheltered by the Daimyo of the Nekomata Province was bewitched by the beauty of the young heiress, but her love cannot be revealed as she is a mere guard."
Immediately the animorph skin changed color, turning pink while the spots on her body turned red, her hair and eyes also turning pink. "Is the Monkey King influencing you?"
"A little bit, yes." Adam admitted, laughing at his student's condition. "Relax, I highly doubt any heir can charm your princess."
"Oh, shut your mouth."
The Taurus placed a hand on her shoulder, taking a step forward towards the exit. "Come on, let's have some tea. It usually calms your mind."
"I hope so, or else I'm going to punch something…"
Yo, readers! Welcome to another chapter of GM! What do you think of it?
One more chapter full of information, and here we meet the crew of The Omen, the galleon commanded by this AU version of Scarlet! In addition to the versions of Neptune and Sage (who has a different hairstyle here), as well as Ilyn, a unique character for this AU. And I think some had considered the possibility for Neptune in this AU, but now is confirmed, he is the heir of Chryvatos, the kingdom of the triton! And there is a certain bad atmosphere in relation to Scarlet, right. And Sage is a naga, the serpent people of Hinduism. I thought it appropriate.
We also had Pyrrha being mentioned, and to no one's surprise, she's an amazon! And a Huntress of Artemis too. Themyscira was also mentioned, and try to guess who is the queen there? Hehehe... By the way, Bianca, meet my OC. Her first appearance in any of my stories. And a fallen angel... I wonder what happened? Ah, Ciel quoted too.
(For Ao3 and Fanfiction readers: I like Ciel a lot, and sometimes she is very proeminent in my stories. This is the case here.)
And at the end we get a brief look at the Belladonna Household, seeing that Adam is training both Ilia and Blake. TO MAKE THINGS CLEAR: No, Blake and Adam have not and will not have a romantic relationship and you can completely ignore the canon between these two here. And yes, Ilia x Blake will happen.
BUT! More importantly, the situation in Hoken Ryochi is getting tense, and how will Ghira handle it? Especially with the high chances of the other Daimyos announcing a meeting... This you will see in... I don't know exactly, I can't guarantee that it will be in the next chapter. We'll see!
I hope you enjoyed it, for now I'm going, tchau tchau! (Bye bye in portuguese)
