Before I start. I have seen the Fionna and Cake trailer and I have to say this. Neither my Marshall nor his genderswapped version nor their worlds will be the focus of my fic of that show. It'll be an entirely new oc who will get their own copious amounts of trauma and suffering.
Anyways, I thought I'd make a sibling bonding chapter since I didn't make one of these in a while.
Enjoy.

Flashback.
"*Sigh* I'm bored. Do you have any games here." Said Marceline grumpily as she flew onto Marshall's couch. "Man, I always forget how comfy your couch is."
"I made it this way in case I wanted to rest after waking up." Replied Marshall with an awkward smile as he floated in the air next to Marceline.
Marceline went silent, knowing what her brother was resting from. After a few seconds, she broke the silence with a smile.
"Well, I have a role playing game tucked somewhere in my house." Said Marceline with a smile, changing the subject. "Let's play that."
Marshall smiled before nodding. It was en exiting prospect to play a game with Marceline after so many centuries. He opened a portal to Marceline's house and his sister headed through the portal before returning a minute later with a map, a dice pouch and a book.
Marshall created a table using his magic and the two placed the three items on it before playing on the couch.
"First, we need to make our characters. I'll make a..." Said Marceline cheerfully as she looked around the room for inspiration before her eyes landed on her twin. "A witch with a...big white beard that she stole. We can check stats later; what do you wanna make?"
"Oh. I will make a..." Marshall pondered with a smile, knowing that his sister made a witch for him. "Werewolf...uhh, who was raised by vampires and does vampire stuff?"
"Sweet." Replied Marceline cheerfully causing her brother to giggle before he created two dolls that resemble each of their characters. "Now we need backstories. My witch is, uhh, exiled from magic land forrrrr stealing her husband's magic beard or something."
Marshall snorted, as he held back some laughter at Marceline's character before turning to his own character.
"Uhh, he was aban- I mean his parents were... uhh- can we skip this part?" Asked Marshall awkwardly he didn't want to make the story hit any...sore spots.
"Sure." Replied Marceline with a smile as she opened the book and the dice pouch. "Now to get used to the game, let's fight a dragon. That's standard rpg stuff."
Marshall nodded before creating a large dragon doll towering above his and Marceline's characters with a snap of his fingers.
"I...uhh, cast fire ball on the dragon." Said Marceline before she threw the dice getting a 20. "I think this means i win. Your turn."
Marshall nodded before rolling a one, causing the boy's shoulders to fall dejectedly.
"Sorry." He said dejectedly. It was no big deal, but Marshall still felt like he messed up their first game together in centuries.
"Hey. Cheer up." Said Marceline cheering up her brother. "I don't even know how to play this game."
"But-"
"I just wanted to play something with you. It doesn't have to be perfect, we just have to be together."
Marshall smiled slowly before he and Marceline played together once again. Only this time, they actually read the rule book.

The Present.
Marceline, who was wearing a sleeveless red turtle neck sweater and black pants, groaned as she opened her eyes to a familiar ruined city.
"What? How-" asked Marceline before she heard a familiar voice calling for her.
"Marcy!...Marcy!" It was Marshall, but her brother was nowhere in sight.
"Marshall? Where are you?" Asked Marceline in confusion. "Where am I?"
"You're inside some kind of crystal of memories." Said Marshall with clear frustration. "Magic man thought it'd be fun to put you in there and put the key inside one of the memories. I'm scared to break something with my magic and ruin your brain, so we have to find that key."
Marceline frowned, silently cursing magic man. "Did he say which memory?"
"He said it's in the memory that looks back at you?" Replied Marshall in confusion. "We'll just have to figure it out."
Marceline nodded before trekking forwards through her memories until she realized she didn't know where to go. She looked around until she saw herself. Her toddler self. She decided to approach her younger self before noticing a familiar figure next to her.
"Simon!" Marceline's eyes lit up as she dashed towards Simon before noticing that Simon didn't even notice her existence. "Simon?"
Marceline tried poke Simon's shoulder to get his attention before her hand went right through him.
"What?" Asked Marceline in surprise. "Marsh! What's going on?"
"I think it's a projection of a memory, Marcy." Replied Marshall dejectedly. "You can't interact with it."
"Oh." Said Marceline as her shoulders dropped. "It's just been so long since I..."
Marshall paused. "Marcy, I can bring him back, but..."
"I know and the answer is still no. I'm not doing that to him." Replied Marceline dejectedly. "At least not without his permission. Let's just go to the next memory."
Marshall nodded before Marceline traversed her memories until she found a door to another memory among the ruined buildings. It was a memory of Marcy and Marshall playing card wars.
"Ow! My wrist!" Exclaimed a memory of Marshall in pain. "How can a card game hurt this bad?!"
Memory Marceline giggled at her brother's pain causing the real Marceline to snort.
"Oh, hey. It's that time you used that floop strat in card wars." Remarked Marshall tiredly causing Marceline to giggle. "Stop laughing. My wrist hurt a lot after that game."
"Sorry, sorry." Replied Marceline between giggles before entering the next memory through another door.
This memory was of her and Marshall visiting their dad. A memory that made Marceline frown.
"Ugh, I can't believe you!" Exclaimed Memory Marceline angrily. "Can't you just NOT be you for two seconds?!"
"Was it the guy I turned into a turkey?" Asked Hunson in confusion.
"NO!" Snapped Marceline angrily. "And I give up! Marshall, make a portal home."
Memory Marshall wanted to say something before sighing and opening the portal with a dejected look on his face.
"We should...skip this one." Said the real Marshall awkwardly.
"Yeah. You're right." Said Marceline with a nod, ignoring the memory behind her and heading towards a door in her father's castle.
The next memory was an early one. One from before all the chaos. One that made Marceline's shoulders drop in shock.
"I spot with my little eyes something...blue." Said Elise, the mother of Marshall and Marceline, cheerfully.
"Is it me?" Asked memory Marceline pointing at her own blue clothes.
"Nope." Replied Elise shaking her head cheerfully.
"Is it the walls?" Asked memory Marshall tilting his head.
"Those only look blue because of the shadows." Replied Elise softly with a smile.
"Dang." Said memory Marshall at his defeat.
Marceline chuckled. "You were so tiny and cute back then." She said admiring the memory.
"Hey, baby Marcy deserves a lot of love too." Replied Marshall cheerfully.
"It feels narcissistic to say that when... y'know?" Said Marceline with a smile. "We're twins?"
"I take nothing back." Declared Marshall proudly.
Marceline giggled at her brother's response before sighing. "Let's go." She said tiredly as she approached the door of their old house.
Marceline took a deep breath before opening the door seeing what the memory inside was before quickly slamming the door shut.
"No. Not than one." Said Marceline in a panic.
Marshall, who was watching from outside, also knew what was behind that door. He himself didn't want to see it. But knowing their luck, this was the key.
"...Marcy-"
"No! You know what's behind that door." Said Marceline angrily causing Marshall to go silent. "I'm not going."
"Marcy, you can't stay stuck in there forever. You have friends and I need you." Said Marshall trying to egg Marceline on.
"Hey, you're not the one who has to see it!" Snapped Marceline angrily.
"I'm the one WHO DID IT!" Replied Marshall angrily.
The two Abadeers went silent. Behind the door was the very memory of Elise turning into a monster and Marshall leaving Marceline and neither of them wanted to see that memory.
"Just leave me alone!" Said Marceline as tears formed around her eyes before she curled into a ball in front of the door. "I wish there wasn't magic or vampires or whatever and we just had normal lives. With mom not a horrifying monster and a dad that doesn't wanna eat the souls of innocent every two seconds."
Marshall paused, struggling to find the words to say before remembering what Marceline herself once said to him. "It doesn't have to be perfect, we just have to be together. That's what you said, right?"
"Don't use my words against me." Snapped Marceline. "That was about a stupid game."
"And it was right. Marcy...I'm not leaving you this time. Not again." He said calmly. "Even if you stay here forever. You know I can."
Marceline went silent as Marshall did the same. All Marceline could hear and see was the scene of her mother playing with her and her brother. After what seemed like hours, Marceline finally spoke.
"Marshall." Marceline called out. "You still there?"
"Yeah." Replied Marshall immediately.
Marceline paused before cursing under her breath. "I'm opening the door." She said tiredly. "Are you gonna be there?"
"I already said it. I'm not leaving you." He said calmly.
Marceline took a deep breath before standing up and slowly opening the door. Both Abadeers watched as their mother turned into a horrifying monster. Their mother's eyes pierced through the two's souls like knives before finally, the crystal holding in Marceline broke.

Marceline woke up and opened her eyes to see her brother checking on her.
"You okay?" Asked Marshall tiredly.
"Yeah." Replied Marceline tiredly. "Sorry for yelling."
"It's fine. I'm just glad you're back." Replied Marshall with a smile.
Marceline got off the floor and looked around her living room to find Magic Man frozen in time. Seeing him made her frown.
"We can deal with him later." Said Marshall calmly. "Let's just relax right now."
Marceline sighed. "Yeah. I guess I'll kill him if I get my hands on him now."
The two went silent as they layed on the floor of Marceline's home until Marshall broke the silence.
"Wanna play card wars?" Asked Marshall with a smile.
"Only if you promise not to lose on purpose to cheer me up."
"Only if you promise not to break my wrist again."
"Only if you..."
The two never did play that game as they continued to make sillier and sillier promises for the other to keep. They went on like this for hours.
