Halloween Special - Chapter 1: The Nightmare begins
Legosi awoke with a gasp. He slowly stood up, "Uhg, what happened?"
The wolf put his hand on his head, "And why does my head hurt?"
He looked around and discovered he was in a small decaying room.
"Where am I? Jack, JACK ARE YOU THERE?" he called out, but no answer.
Legosi reached into his pocket to grab his phone, however he couldn't find it anywhere on him.
"Shit, what now?" the wolf wondered.
He scanned the room, however even with his night vision he found it difficult to see. Legosi slowly walked around the room and managed to find the door.
Legosi exited the room and found himself in a long hallway that looked like it was falling apart,
"Hello, is anyone here?" he asked.
The large canine received no answer. He began walking down the hall, the sound of the creaking floor was his only companion.
CREAK CREAK CREAK
The wolf put his fingers together as his ears folded backwards. He was starting to get worried about what had happened to him and soon found himself thinking about his friends. He started wondering where they were and if they knew what was going on.
The wolf continued down the hallway when he suddenly heard a sound coming from behind. Legosi looked behind him and saw nothing, however he still heard the sound getting louder.
Whether it was out of fear or just instinct, Legosi ran into the closest room he could find. He looked around and noticed that he had entered what looked to be a dining hall in ruin.
"What is going on here? Is it a set that the club made?" Legosi wondered.
The wolf moved through the room and saw something under one of the seats. He took a closer look and realized it was his missing phone. The wolf picked it up and saw that he had a message from Jack.
Jack: Legosi are you there? Whatever is going on, it's not funny. I don't know if this is a prank or something, but I'm getting really freaked out. If you and the guys did this in order to scare me, then you succeeded. Just please get me out of here.
"A prank, why would he think I would pull such a horrible prank? I'm just as confused about this as he is," the wolf thought to himself.
He looked at the time stamp and it showed that the message was only ten minutes old. He tried calling his mate, however, he wasn't getting any kind of signal.
Suddenly Legosi started to hear that strange sound again. He identified the sound as footsteps. However, they didn't belong to anyone he knew.
The wolf got back up and headed back to the room's entrance. He looked through the door's window and saw nothing. Legosi slowly opened the door and walked back into the hallway. He looked around and saw a white figure standing at the other end.
"Hello, um...can you help me? I don't know where I am and I don't remember how I got here," Legosi said nervously.
The figure said nothing and instead started moving towards the large canine.
"Uh…I'm not trying to cause any trouble. I just want to find out where I am," he said as he started moving back.
The figure kept creeping closer to the now frightened Legosi. It started to reach its hands out to him, causing the wolf's fur to stand.
Legosi kept moving back until he hit a dead end, "S-Stay back, I don't want to hurt you."
The figure kept coming even closer until it was right on top of him.
"Aaaahhhh!" Legosi yelled as he closed his eyes and put his hands up.
In that moment, the wolf hit his phone's camera button causing the flash to go off. The spirit yelled and moved back at the sudden flash.
Legosi opened his eyes and saw that whatever was just scaring him seemed to flinch after his camera went off. Seeing this, he took another picture, this time the camera caused the white figure to disappear entirely.
"What the hell was that thing?" asked the wolf, his head covered in sweat and his heart racing.
Legosi, having calmed down, remembered the message from Jack.
"Oh shit, Jack!" He shouted as he tried to give his mate another call, but with no success.
Legosi turned on his phone's flashlight and decided to begin his search. He knew he needed to find Jack and anyone else that might have been there with them as fast as possible.
Jack woke up with a musty smell invading his nose, "What… what is tha- Achooooo!"
A bolt of pain shot through his head and he felt his muzzle scrape against something.
"Oh gosh, what hit me?" Jack asked as he rubbed his head and slowly opened his eyes.
As he recovered his senses, he realized that he had been lying on the dusty floor. When he looked around, he found himself in a dark room with the only light coming from a hole in the ceiling.
"Why's it so dark in here?" Jack thought out aloud.
Jack turned around to look for his mate, but couldn't make much out in the dark.
"Legosi? Legosi where are you?" Jack called out softly. "LEGOSI! Come on, this isn't funny!"
There was no answer.
"What the heck, I can't smell anyone because it's so filthy in here and I can't really see either. This is getting a little weird," Jack thought to himself.
Jack slowly moved forward in an attempt to locate a wall, almost tripping over a broken, decrepit chair.
"Woaaah, ouch!" Jack yelped as he crashed into the wall. "Well at least I found a side of the room. Let's see if I can find the door!"
Jack moved around the room and finally located the door, pulling it open.
SQUEAAAAAAAAK
"Ahhh!" Jack exclaimed in fright, holding his hand over his now rapidly thumping heart. "Geez, that door was creepy, well it looks like this is a corridor… and I think I can make out some doors further down."
Jack slowly started moving down the corridor and began calling out Legosi's name softly.
"Hey Legosi, you there?"
A slow thumping noise accompanied by a creak could be heard somewhere behind him, almost if someone was following him.
"Ha-ha okey guys, very funny. You got me," Jack said as he turned around, only to find that there was nothing behind him, "This isn't funny anymore! Come on out already."
Suddenly a moment of inspiration came over him.
"Oh duh, you dumb dog! Just call them. Their phones will ring and then they'll have to show themselves." he thought as he let out a laugh.
Jack reached into his pocket where he always kept his phone and pulled it out. The signal was very weak however. In fact, it looked like it was switching between one bar and no signal. The battery life didn't look very good either.
He typed in Legosi's number and tried to call him, but nothing happened.
"Argh for crying out loud!" Jack exclaimed. "There goes that plan. Guess I'll just text him."
Legosi are you there? Whatever is going on, it's not funny. I don't know if this is a prank or something but I'm getting really freaked out. If you and the guys did this in order to scare me, then you succeeded. Just please get me out of here.
"There, that should let them know I'm not in the mood for this joke anymore," Jack spoke aloud, trying to calm his nerves again. "Oh great, the text doesn't even look like it's sending."
"This is not good, I feel like I'm going to have a mental breakdown," Jack fretted while looking at the phone, trying to send the message on the intermittent signal. "I'm even talking to myself."
Suddenly, Jack saw something moving out the corner of his eye. He looked in the direction but could not see anything due to the night blindness from looking at the phone's screen. Fumbling with his phone, he turned the screen in the direction of the movement in the hopes that he would be able to see anything.
CREAAAAAAAK!
This time the noise came from right where Jack was looking but nothing was there except for a hovering shadowy blob.
"Ahhhhh!" Jack shouted in panic.
He sprinted away using his phone's light as a makeshift torch. The corridor he was in was old and the wooden walls looked like they were slowly disintegrating. He couldn't take in any more details as he was too scared to notice anything else.
He ran down corridors and weaved in and out of rooms trying to evade his pursuer. He skidded into the final room. It was a food storage from the looks of it. It even had a pantry that was falling apart and smelled of rot.
"NO EXIT!" Jack frantically thought, "I'm done for!"
He turned around to face his attacker and saw the shadowy blob moving closer and reaching out for him.
"What do you want? Please don't hurt me," Jack sobbed as he backed away as far as he could.
His hand hit one of the shelves, causing him to drop his phone in fright.
Suddenly there was a bright light and the sound of a camera shutter. The shadowy blob then howled in pain as it started to flail wildly.
Jack, realizing what just happened, reached down to grab his phone. He quickly pointed it in the direction of the doorway and took a photo. The howl then faded away and the monster vanished in an instant.
"What the heck was that?" Jack asked himself. "Why did taking a picture of it make it go away?"
Just then, the labrador heard a loud scream. He recognized the shout as his mate's and stood up. He looked at his phone and saw that his message had finally gone through, but there was no response.
"If Legosi's in trouble, then it has to be another one of those… things!" Jack reasoned. "I have to help him."
Jack ran out the room and tried to make his way towards where he had heard the shout coming from. After a few minutes of running, he saw some light coming from one of the rooms down the corridor.
"Legosi?!" he called out, praying that he'd reach his mate in time.
Legosi heard the voice and immediately realized it was Jack's. Heart filled with both relief and panic, Legosi ran as fast he could, hoping that he wasn't too late.
The two ran towards one as they continued to answer each other's calls. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity of running through various corridors and hallways. The two canines found each other at either end of what appeared to be a foyer in complete disarray. Eyes filled with tears, they met at the center and wrapped each other in a desperate embrace.
Jack held onto Legosi as tight as he could and buried his face into his lover's chest.
The golden retriever looked up, "Oh Legosi, I'm so glad to see you! What the hell is going on, where are we?"
The wolf said nothing as he stared into his mate's eyes with relief. He guided Jack's muzzle up to his and gave the labrador a kiss. After a few seconds of passion, Legosi pulled back to speak.
"I don't know Jack. I just woke up a few minutes ago. I honestly can't remember anything about how we got here and I have a really bad headache. Sorry I can't be more helpful," he said sadly.
"It's ok Legosi, really," Jack reassured, "I guess this means you aren't the one doing this."
"No I'm not," the wolf assured Jack.
Legosi looked back at his mate and placed his hands on Jack's shoulders, "Listen Jack, we have to get out of here. We are not alone. When I went looking for you I was attacked by something and I think it might still be around."
"He was attacked too?" the labrador thought to himself.
"What were you attacked by?" he asked.
"I don't really know what it was. It was completely white and it didn't look like any animal I know of," Legosi answered.
"At least it wasn't the same thing that attacked me. But…does that mean there's more than one? Or was it the same creature that just made itself look different?" Jack pondered.
"I'm not sure how or why, but the thing that attacked me was really bothered by my phone's camera. I took a second picture of it hoping to scare it off, but instead it just disappeared entirely," Legosi explained.
"The same thing happened to me," Jack responded.
"What do you mean?" asked the wolf, his right ear flickering.
"I was also attacked by something, but rather than a white figure, it was some kind of black shadowy blob. When I was running away from it, I dropped my phone and the camera went off. Whatever attacked me wasn't scared of it like yours was however, instead it acted like the camera hurt it," Jack explained.
"Hurt it?" Legosi asked with a confused look.
"Yea, it flailed in pain when the camera went off. After that I took another picture and just like in your case, that shadow thing just vanished."
Legosi let his lover go and crossed his arms. "Well…that can't be a coincidence can it?"
The wolf said before he shook his head, "Anyway we need to-"
"Aaaahhhh!"
The two canines looked in the direction of the scream in surprise, holding each other as tight as they could.
"What was that?" Jack barked.
"It sounded like Kai!" Legosi responded.
The wolf let his lover go and began running towards his friend's cry.
"Hey, wait for me!" the smaller canine called out as he ran after his mate.
The two ran deeper into the darkness. They didn't know what was going on but one thing was for sure, if they had any hope of escaping, they needed to figure out what was going on and just how many of their friends got swept up in it.
