Friendly Fire
Sarah Wynn-Jones adored her husband. Along with the two dogs they adopted, Bodie and Doyle they had a life she could never have imagined. Malcolm was the man she should have married as a younger woman, when she had first worked with him as an analyst on the Grid. But her scheming brother, Tessa and fate had conspired against that. She sighed heavily as she rinsed Malcolm's favourite Red Dwarf mug in the sink. She had a feeling it was going to be one of those days. Sighing she grabbed her handbag and jacket, knowing that dwelling on the past was not going to do anyone any good as she headed out to the bookshop.

"The report on that potential threat in Peckham is in your in box." Ruth stated as Ros and Harry returned to the Grid. Harry nodded at her before disappearing into his office. It was already mid morning and most of the team were out on enquires. It had been a relatively quiet start to the year with Ruth wondering if it really was the calm before the storm. She looked over the Grid to where Calum was carrying a tray of mugs out of the kitchenette. Catherine and Tariq seemed totally absorbed in whatever they were doing. Sighing she decided not to think the lull was about to end any time soon. It was better to enjoy the peace while it was there. Returning back to her work she tried not to let her latent ability to overthink every situation get to her. Hours later the phone on her desk sprang to life.
"Yes?" She looked over to the office to where she could see Harry watching her. "Ok." She headed into the office with the phone still clutched to her hand. Closing the door behind her she pulled the blind.
"Harry?"
"Sit down, Ruth. Please."
"Harry? You're scaring me."
Harry looked at the desk for a moment before meeting her eyes.
"Sarah called. Its Malcolm."
"Its his day off isn't it? Oh his mother? Is she?"
"He's been shot, Ruth. Malcolm has been shot."
