Across the city at the Hikawa Shrine, the shrine priestess sat at the great fire looking for answers for her questions. The fire in front of her danced violently to her prayers confusing the priestess.
Rei sagged where she sat, confused. The great fire had never given her such a hard time before. She couldn't understand why this was happening. Crazy things had been happening around the city as of late, and more recently, people had started disappearing from the bus that passed by near the shrine. It was causing a lot of local rumors and Rei wanted to find out who was behind these disappearances. The press had been alerted and several unsavory people had come by the temple asking intrusive questions.
Rei's grandfather told her that the scandal would pass as they knew that they had nothing to do with the disappearances. He said that the should focus on amulets of protection towards people and keeping with their traditions.
Rei was not one to stand for slander against the shrine and her anger rose in indignation at those who spoke ill of them. She had tried looking for answers in the great fire as to who was responsible for all the chaos surrounding the temple, but she kept getting a mix of visions along with the fire going out of control. She didn't understand. Why would an ancient war from the past have anything to do with their predicament?
Unbeknownst to Rei through the trees a figure stood watching her in the darkness. A cold and cruel, but almost possessive sneer passed across their face. With a wave of their hand, the fire before Rei flared up once again and as the priestess went to shield her eyes from the burst, the figure faded out of existence.
Across Azabu-Juban, Luna was having her own version of damage control to deal with. Over the past few months, since she had awoken and was able to awaken Sailor Moon, Luna had been in contact with HQ. She wasn't sure who the voices were behind the screen that she normally reported to, but she knew that they were allies. They were the ones who helped her get on the right track after she had come to in her sleeping capsule.
"What do you mean she's encased in crystal?!" Was the robotic voice coming through the screen. The speaker was obviously speaking in a more screeching tone, as the transmission was very shrill.
Luna flinched at the response to her news. There was so much to report to HQ with everything that had been uncovered in the past week. "There's more…" Luna stated almost apologetically.
"What more could there be?!" Snapped the voice from the screen.
"It seems that Sailor Mercury, Sailor Jupiter and even Sailor Moon's memories have been unlocked." Was the reply.
"Meaning…?"
"We have identified the Moon Princess and everyone including Usagi knows that she is her."
A pregnant pause ensued followed by a long sigh. "She wasn't supposed to find out yet. How did she handle it?"
If Luna had had eyebrows they would have been raised well above her head. Confronting HQ with information that she should have been privy too would have to wait for another time. Now, they both needed to exchange the information that they had before more misunderstandings occurred.
"She was still adjusting to the memories, but overall, I would say that she handled it really well. The other Scouts are besides themselves with joy at finding her and they seem very dedicated to protecting her." Luna replied. "I should also mention that Shingo had said that Usagi had remembered the Silver Crystal."
"The Silver Crystal huh?" Was the enigmatic response.
"Would you happen to know it's whereabouts? She seemed to be very distressed about not knowing it's location and humanity would be in danger if it fell into the Negaverse's hands." Luna beseeched.
"No. Unfortunately, we don't know where it is either."
"Should locating the Silver Crystal be added to our list of priorities?" Luna asked.
"Let's start to research for it. We shall do the same. It is our error for not having started looking for it earlier. But do it discreetly. If the Negaverse hasn't started looking for it, or had forgotten about it, let's not give them a reason to start looking, now shall we?"
"Agreed. I'll start on my end and see if I can get Sailor Mercury on board with coming up with a way to look for it." Luna replied.
"Copy that. It looks like things are happening much faster there than we anticipated. We'll be making our way there soon. Keep her safe and once we're in the area we'll contact you again."
Luna blinked in surprise and if she hadn't been as stressed as she was, she probably wouldn't have asked such a question, but seeing as the situation was what it was, she simply asked, "Who are you?"
A laugh on the other side twinkled through the screen as the fizzled screen started to change and a darkened silhouette could be seen. It was of a human figure, smaller than what Luna had thought it would have been. Piercing through the black and while opaqueness of the screen, a bright flash of orange blinked through the screen.
"We'll be there soon Luna. You've done a great job. We'll see you when we're there!" Came the response.
"Roger that. Over and out." Was Luna's reply.
Luna sat at the base for a long while after she updated HQ on everything that had transpired. She needed time to think and reflect herself. Usagi was the Moon Princess. It shamed her greatly to think back at how she had initially approached Usagi.
She had known that the Sailor Scouts were well seasoned warriors, but in the past, the Moon Princess was not a warrior. Hell, she barely knew how to wield the Silver Crystal, much less protect herself in combat.
If she had known that Usagi was the Moon Princess she knew she would have approached her very differently. She wouldn't have acted with such disdain at the young girl. She would have tried to put her best foot forward with whom she had remembered to be a very well loved princess. But at the end of the day, Luna still needed that wake up call.
Even if she had treated the princess differently, would she have treated Sailor Mercury or Jupiter in a different fashion? Of course, the two other scouts seemed to let their instincts take over during battles and their powers came out more naturally. Looking back, it would make sense that Usagi had no natural instinct for fighting, because she didn't have any background in it at all. The Princess of the Moon was exactly that. She was a princess. She was taught to be graceful, courteous and was treated with love and respect from all on the Moon. She was vivacious and full of life. She was Queen Selenity's pride and joy. There no was no love like the love between the mother and daughter. The universe saw how deep the bond between them was at the death of the princess. The queen was no longer herself. There was no hope, no life. Luna remembered, as the queen sent her to sleep with… there was someone else there with her. But as the queen sent them to sleep, Luna's eyes were closing drowsily, she saw Queen Selenity hurl an object with all her might into the vastness of space and slowly fade away into nothingness.
Shaking her head coming back to the present, Luna knew she could trust Ami with her diagnosis of Usagi, but how to move forward?! One doesn't simply tell the Moon Princess to fight against the Negaverse, but one also does not tell Usagi not to fight— and where on literal Earth was the Silver Crystal? She pondered hard on her last memories from the distant past.
She remembered Queen Selenity not being able to destroy the great evil as her heart was too broken from the loss of her daughter. What Luna did remember was the queen sealing the great evil within her own crystal and then throwing into the abyss of space. It would make sense for the crystal to have been flung to Earth seeing as the Negaverse was back on this planet.
The crystal had to be hidden somewhere on Earth. There was no other place for it to be. But how to go about finding an ancient jewel like that? Who's hands could it be in now? What if it was hidden in some ancient lost city?
There were too many questions that Luna didn't have the answer to. She needed to sit down with the scouts and maybe together they could come up with a game plan. Being able to talk to Usagi's parent's also might actually help. Maybe through their life experience, they would have heard about something like the Silver Crystal.
Stretching from her seat, she made her way out of the secret base that was located deep underneath the Crown Arcade. She passed a young man entering the arcade and even though she was deep in thought there was no mistaking the energy aura around him. She stopped abruptly in her tracks to study the young man as he went to sit at the counter inside the arcade.
Luna knew from past experiences that she couldn't just assume that the person who had that aura of energy was automatically an enemy. She had thought the same thing of both Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter and they turned out to be very important allies. She jumped up into a tree just outside of the arcade. Even though she had been wrong in the past, something told her there was something different about this particular young man, and she wasn't going to let a lead get away. She changed her plans from going back to the Tsukino residence to waiting to see if following the young stranger would give her any answers to his identity. She settled into her branch and waited.
