Episode 28: Pups Save Ryder! Chase and Ben, Leaders Of The Rescue Force!
December 31st, 2029
Ben yawned as he woke up from his sleep. Looking at his clock, he saw it was about ten in the morning. Then he realized something. HE HAD FORGOTTEN TO FIX RYDER'S PUP PAD! His friend had dropped the device the previous day after Marshall accidentally tripped into him when playing tag with the group. Ben had promised to fix the device, even though it was mostly intact.
The human had done a diagnostic check and determined that only the GPS component was damaged, needing a replacement. He had promised Ryder that he would have it repaired by the end of the next day. But in his procrastination, he had forgotten that today was when Ryder had scheduled his nature hike!
He took some deep breaths, calming himself down. There was no way Ryder would need to navigate his way back home. He knew his way around the woods and rocks of Jake's mountain and the surrounding area like the back of his hand. Ryder would be absolutely fine. And if he needed help, he could call them. The cell towers in the area would give them a triangulation signal to lock down their leader's location if necessary.
Shaking his head, he started on another one of the projects he and Ryder had been meaning to do: the upgrades to the pup packs. They were going to upgrade the packs and give them new gear and tools. Chase would receive night vision goggles, Marshall would get an X-Ray scanner and EMT gear, and other upgrades. There were also plans to upgrade the pupmobiles with alternate modes, though this could be done later.
Ben would work on this project of his for about a half hour in the lobby of the Lookout before Ryder called. "PAW Patrol, to the lookout!" Ryder's voice exclaimed. Instantly, Ben was worried. What sort of situation had arose during his nature hike?
Ben leapt to his feet and ran into the elevator as the entrance opened and Marshall ran in. He was going to be first! Then he turned around. "Oh no! I dropped my biscuit! Mr. Porter gave that to me!" Marshall yelped, running back and crashing into the other pups. Then the dalmatian walked back and snatched up his biscuit, scarfing it down. "Got it!" Marshall muttered between bites.
Everyone laughed as the glass elevator rose up, stopping at the halfway point to outfit everyone in their gear. Ben smiled as the Green Ranger suit encased him. The protective armor modeled after one of Angel Grove's heroes was reassuring and comforting. Once the glass elevator reached the top of the lookout, the glass doors slid open and everyone lined up. "PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Chase exclaimed.
However… there was no Ryder. The Lookout monitor displayed a wagging tail, which was concerning. "Ryder?" Ben asked nervously.
"Ummmm…. Where's Wyder?" Zuma asked.
Thankfully, a hand appeared and pushed the wagging tail out of the way, before Ryder's face came into view. "Thanks for coming so quickly, Pups. Today, I need you to rescue… well, me! " Ryder exclaimed, blushing a little.
Ben immediately stood at attention, straightening up. "Rescue you!? " Chase gasped.
"Yup, and Garbie. We're at-" Ryder started to say, before the pup pad was sent flying and tumbling to the ground.
Ben's blood turned to ice as the camera spun around several times before it hit the ground, a cracking and shattering noise being heard before the signal cut off. "RYDER!" Ben screamed in horror.
Quickly running up to the control panel, he started inputting commands. Due to the faulty GPS that he had forgotten to replace, they had no location for Ryder! The eighteen year old sank to his knees and started having a mental breakdown. His worst nightmare had been realized. "How do we save Ryder… without Ryder ?" Rubble whined.
"Ben?! Beeeennnn!" Zuma shouted, nudging Ryder's best friend.
Ben started to mumble incoherently. Chase watched in horror as Ben broke down in front of him, his hands trembling and the human's words unable to be understood. This had affected Ben really badly. Chase saw that he had to take charge. "We can do it! We're the PAW Patrol! No job is too big, no pup is too small. First, we need to find him. But we can't just scatter around Adventure Bay and hope to run into him! We need a plan. Rocky, rewind the footage so we can see where the pup pad fell." Chase exclaimed, giving Rocky instructions.
Rocky ran up to the control panel and fiddled with it, before pulling up the image of the road that the pup pad had captured. "This road looks familiar, but that doesn't mean much." Chase mused.
"We've been down all of the roads in Adventure Bay hundreds of times. They all look familiar! We need to know about Ryder's route. Ben, can you tell us anything about the path that Ryder takes on his nature hike?" Rocky pointed out, before asking Ben about Ryder's route.
Ben remained inconsolable. He kept himself slumped over the control panel, and Rocky poked him with his tool arm to no avail. "Cover your ears, pups! I'm gonna have to get loud!" Chase suggested. The pups put their paws over their ears as Chase barked out his megaphone. "BEN! SNAP OUT OF IT!" Chase yelled into his megaphone.
Ben instantly shot up, looking at Chase through his helmet visor. "Chase, he's gone…" Ben sadly said.
Chase snarled at the mere notion of that idea. "RYDER IS NOT GONE! I KNOW IT IN MY PUPPY HEART! ONLY THE PUP PAD DROPPED, NOT RYDER! BUT HE WILLBE GONE IF YOU DON'T GET OFF YOUR SORRY HINDQUARTERS AND HELP US FIND HIM!" Chase howled, his megaphone blasting Ben's ears.
Instantly, Ben felt ashamed of himself. "You're right, Chase. I assumed the worst. Put your megaphone away. I know that Ryder's nature hike takes him through this scenic trail, by the roads, and up to Jake's Mountain before either Jake or Everest gives him a ride back to the Lookout. He's done this thousands of times, ever since he was seven. It's always the same route." Ben answered.
"Then we know exactly who to call!" Rocky exclaimed, pressing a button on the control panel.
Everest's icon popped on screen before the husky was shown. "Hey guys! What's up?" Everest asked happily.
"Ryder is missing. He was on a nature hike when he called us, saying he needed us to rescue Garbie and himself. We need you to help us find him. We know he's nearby one of the mountain roads. We're going to spread out and search for him along the mountainside paths. We may or may not bump into each other." Ben reported.
"Got it, Ben! Off the trail, Everest won't fail!" Everest roared before ending the call.
Ben stood up and looked at the rest of his pups. "Let's go save Ryder!" Alex yipped.
"Come on, team. Ryder is counting on us! Saving one's life means saving the future! We won't neglect any peril! OUR BLAZING SAVIOR SPIRITS WILL LIGHT THE WAY! RESCUE FORCE, MOBILIZE!" Ben spoke, before taking the fire pole to the garage so he could get on his motorcycle, while the pups took the slide to their vehicles.

Ben tore out of the garage, leading the pups through the road to the mountains. As he rode side by side with Chase, he looked over at the German Shepherd and smiled. "You did an amazing job, Chase. I'm glad Ryder picked you to be the pups leader." Ben gratefully said as they drove down the path to Jake's Mountain.
As they searched the back areas of the woods and the mountain roads, Ben began to wonder where Ryder was. Suddenly, they got a call from Everest. "I smell him, you guys! I'm heading in his direction!" Everest told them.
Ben activated his motorcycle's built in pup pad and used it to get a lock on Everest's location. "Got it, Everest! Chase and I are already en route. I'll contact the other pups!" Ben replied. The rest of the group's pup tags lit up as Ben radioed them. "Rocky, Zuma, Marshall, Skye, Alex, Rubble. Everest has Ryder's scent. Rendezvous with Chase and I!" Ben commanded.
"Got it!" The other canines chorused as they started to head in the direction of Everest.
Soon enough, they came upon Ryder and Garbie. The goat and their friend were on a rocky cliff face, which appeared to be unstable. Everest approached them from above, while Ben, Chase, and everyone else got close from below. Rubble used his rig to clear away the rocks that had fallen onto the road. Skye zoomed in with her goggles. "That cliff section looks pretty unstable… flying my harness to them might make the vibrations from the helicopter cause the cliff face to collapse!" Skye exclaimed worriedly.
"My grappling hook can reach Ryder, but Garbie can't climb it!" Everest mentioned.
Chase woofed as he had an idea. "Marshall, you can use your ladder to save Garbie! Everest, shoot your grappling hook for Ryder to climb on!" Chase ordered.
"I'm fired up!" Marshall shouted as he drove his engine up to the cliff face and extended his ladder.
It raised up… but it was just a little short of being able to reach Garbie. "Oh no! Garbie can't reach the ladder!" Ryder cried out as Everest's grappling hook shot down to him.
Ben put his motorcycle into park and hopped off of it. "It just needs a little bit of a lift! " Ben shouted. Grunting as he grabbed the back of Marshall's fire truck, and with the strength enhancements of his rescue armor, he began to lift it up. "Rrrrrrrrrrghhhh!" Ben groaned as he raised the fire truck above his head.
"Garbie, now!" Marshall yipped. The goat leapt down onto the ladder and climbed down.
Ben's knees started to tremble as he lowered the fire engine back onto the ground. Panting at the exertion, he glanced back up to see Ryder at the top of the cliff, safe and secure in Everest's snowcat. "You all did it! You're such good pups!" Ryder cheered.
"Meet you at the Lookout!" Everest told them.
As they regrouped at the tower, they all snacked on some watermelon that Mr. Porter had delivered. "Thanks for the help, everyone. I wasn't sure that I was going to make it!" Ryder chuckled nervously.
"I thought you were freakin gone , man! But Chase helped snap me out of that funk. I couldn't have done it without Chase. He guided us in our time of need. I'm proud to say that he's a great leader." Ben praised, picking up the German Shepherd and giving him a great big hug.
Meanwhile, in Outer Space…
A meteor plummeted through the vast expanse of the void. Thousands of years ago, it had been created with a purpose. And soon enough, it would fulfill that purpose. Created by a group of ancient sorcerers with an advanced civilization of technology far beyond that of earth, this meteor channeled a power like no other. It had been sent to Earth to grant that power to a group of creatures and make them into a mighty force that had never seen before…
Several advanced scientists were alerted to the crash site being predicted in Adventure Bay. "Hey Tommy, what's up?" One man asked as he was given a phone call from an old friend.
"Hey Ethan. SPD has identified the crash location of the Mighty Meteor that they've been tracking. It's supposed to crash around Adventure Bay in three days. We need you to go and study the meteor." Tommy told him. "Got it, Dr. Oliver. I'll be there!" Ethan promised.
