Anti-Mage 29 - I'd like to say there is a bigger reason for Yusei to have two marks. As well, does Crow really need a mark? He's kind of the Joey of 5D's, and Joey didn't need magic to overpower mind control and beat Yami Marik. (technically)
Chapter 11 – Machine Emperors Scramble!
It's a bright, sunny day. In Neo Domino City, construction work goes on near the ocean on a monolithic freeway. This already completed road connects from the mainland all the way to the island that is Satellite, and separates to reach several other parts of the city.
Passing by them in his little D-Wheel is Crow Hogan, the Bullet of the Signers. He stops before someone at the construction site, locking eyes with them. "Oi! I got you!"
He turns around to pull something out, a box big enough for both hands.
"Oh, thanks! You're quicker than I thought you'd be!" says the worker as he takes the item.
"No problem." Crow remounts his machine before driving off. The words 'Crow Delivery Service' are painted on a banner on his machine.
He makes his way back to his home. Coming to a traffic stop he slows down to wait. He hears some noise as well.
"What makes you think it's okay to charge me this much?!" shouts a man as he holds what he's looking at.
"We're allowed to charge as much as we have to," says the female shopkeep.
"I didn't see you charge that other person the same amount! I was listening!" he shouts angrily. "What, is it cuz I'm from Satellite?!"
Sighing, Crow drives off once it turns blue. He reaches the lone house he rents out, parking and dismounting to enter. Inside the garage, Yusei and Jack are hard at work; the former is on a laptop checking data while the latter is revving the engine of a not yet assembled D-Wheel. "Oh! Made it back just in time."
"Good timing, Crow," Yusei says as he checks the output. It reads 80%.
"80 percent huh? Alright, good! Punch it straight into the red zone!"
"Please! This is nothing for Jack Atlas!" He pushes the engine further.
Of course, on his end, he's going so fast the engine is putting a sound bubble. That's why he can't hear the warning going off the computer. So, Yusei says, "Jack, decelerate!"
"What?! Decelery?! What the hell even is that?!"
Crow tries to correct him. "Jack, you idiot! He said-"
BOOM!
The engine explodes, a detonation so loud the entire area hears. Black smoke farts out of the garage as well. As the smoke clears, the young adults push aside the debris that has fallen onto them. Yusei looks down at the broken engine.
"What the hell happened?!"
"What do you think happened, blondie!? You got too carried away and overdid it!" Crow shouts.
"DID YOU OR DID YOU NOT SAY PUSH IT INTO THE RED?!"
"Hou? I didn't know the King was the type of person who would meekly follow orders when told to. If you hear something that loud and weird midstream, you obviously gotta fucking decelerate!" A crowd gathers by the upper windows the smoke left earlier.
"YOU TRYNA START A FIGHT?!"
"I'LL END IT TOO-"
"OF COURSE, IT'S YOU, MORONS!" Up by the steps stands an old woman, with a face that screams 'done with this'.
"Geh-It's Granny Zola."
"Of course, it's that annoying wench," Jack grumbles.
Zola adjusts her half-spectacle glasses. "You better watch it, Jack! This annoying wench can just kick you out if you're gonna cause problems!"
"WAIT! This was just an accident! Our new engine-"
"I DIDN'T COME FOR EXCUSES! If you're gonna be a man then own up to your faults!"
As Crow and Jack sulk, Yusei comes up calmly. "We're sorry, Zola. We tried a test and it ended badly."
Seeing the crab-haired genius, Zola immediately does a one-eighty in tone before saying, "Oh, it's okay, Yusei dear! Failures are the quickest route to success, after all!" She descends the steps as she talks, before approaching him. "It's fine. I gotta be your landlord every now and then."
"Uh… yes." Jack and Crow gripe at how she just folds under Yusei when she treats them like tall brats.
Outside, a vehicle parks just in front of the door. Out from it, Ushio and Mikage step out. Coming up the steps, Zola gasps. "S-Security? My apologies! I didn't think it was that bad!"
"That bad?" Mikage asks her.
Ushio laughs. "Another failure, huh? No, this is unrelated business."
Seeing Security, the crowd scatters. Ushio and Mikage step downstairs.
Now alone, the Chief of Special Investigations and her assistant stand with the heroes of Satellite. She speaks, "It looks like you three have been busy as usual."
"We have to be. There are only six months until the World Riding Duel Grand Prix," Jack tells her, staring at a poster of it on the wall.
"It's a tournament sponsored by Kaiba Corporation and Neo Domino City to help christen the Neo Daedalus Bridge and the connection between the city and Satellite," Crow adds, speaking out with a bit of pride despite what he saw before.
"Since it's a three-on-three tournament, we need to produce the best engines for all three of our vehicles," Yusei concludes with a nod. "So we can't exactly take it easy."
"You know, if you three called for sponsors it wouldn't be that hard. I'm sure lots of people would be behind you all," Ushio tells them, looking down at one of the destroyed parts.
Jack scuffs at that. "There's no point in winning unless we do it with our own efforts. We have to decide and determine our future for ourselves."
Mikage sighs before smiling. "That's just like you guys. But anyway, I should get on topic; do you know about Ghost?"
All three of them turn to her. "As you know, the WRGP is a tournament luring in people from all over the world to join. The newly implemented features added throughout the city and Speed World 2 are necessary. Since the preliminaries aren't for six months, some people have decided to show up early to test the grounds if you will."
"So? Sounds to me like a minor issue if people are eliminating the competition," Crow tells her.
"The problem," Ushio continues as he shows them photos revealing the crash sites, "is the scale. A normal Riding Duel wouldn't cause the amount of damage we find connected to the mysterious racer Ghost."
"Which means Ghost is using unscrupulous methods to erase other racers," Jack finishes.
"That's exactly what it means, Atlas-sama." Ushio flinches at that. She's in a far higher position than him and she still calls him that.
"Oh, no. I see where this is going. You came here asking for our help, didn't you?" Crow says as he steps forward.
After a thought, Yusei says, "Well… I don't really mind-"
"No, Yusei! We're way too busy! You gotta build the engines and do repairs, and Jack and I have to pay for the parts and the rent! We ain't got time to be heroes right now! Amscray!"
With that, he pushes Mikage and Ushio out the door before closing it behind them.
"Crow, don't you think that was a bit harsh?" asks Yusei while clutching a screwdriver.
"Yusei, part of a healthy relationship is learning how to say no to friends," Crow tells him before he proceeds to clean up Jack's mess. "Besides, the Dark Signers are gone. Your role is over. It's time you went back to being people. Jack, help pick up this mess you made!"
"YOU DON'T TELL JACK-"
Yusei sighs before tuning them out. Honestly, his mind is on that part Crow said. 'It's true; six months have gone by since the Dark Signers have been defeated. Goodwin kept his promise to finish what he started with the Daedalus Bridge even in death. But…'
He checks his arms, the two marks that together made the Body present. 'These are still here. Did the Crimson Dragon leave them on us until we pass on? Or do we still have a purpose?'
Meanwhile, with Mikage and Ushio, the former asks, "Do you think they were ready and willing to help us?"
"No, he's right though," Ushio says in realization. "They've done enough for this city and the world fighting the Dark Signers. We've gotta do our part as well…"
Later that night, Ushio goes to work. Wearing his Security uniform, he and the Duel Chasers go in pursuit of the criminal Ghost.
While out on the road, his monitor catches wind of a riding duelist up ahead. According to the data, it's an unregistered vehicle. "Yup, it's him…"
Speeding up, Ushio force activates Speed World 2, starting their contest. "Riding Duel Acceleration!"
Later…
Out on the job that night, Crow is returning back to home base atop one of the higher roads of the bridge. As he rides, his eyes catch sight of a hospital van down on one of the lower roads. He stops for a moment to check up, and gasps.
"Ushio?!" Yes. Ushio is being carted away.
After following the vehicle, Crow contains the others. They arrive just in time to see Ushio being taken into the ER.
"Ushio! What happened?!" asks Yusei as he comes closer to him.
The older man groans. He manages to say, "Yusei… don't use Synchros against Ghost…"
"Synchro?" The doctors then take him away.
With him being treated, Yusei, Jack, and Crow go to Mikage waiting on the side. The former King asks, "Mikage, what happened?!"
She clenches her fingers. "Ushio… he wanted to do it. He didn't want to burden you guys with something you didn't need to get involved with."
"So he was bait?" asks Yusei with concern.
A nod is all he gets before Mikage leaves.
Back at their home, the boys gripe over the situation. Crow is the most troubled. "This is all my fault… I said all of that, and Ushio got hurt…"
"Crow, that's enough," says Yusei while looking at him. "Ushio knew the risk of his plan. This was a decision he made on his own. There's no point in focusing on it; what's done is done."
"So what?! We're just supposed to sit on our thumbs!?" Crow receives an answer in the form of his helmet being thrown at him.
"Who the hell said that?!" Jack demands as he adjusts his gloves tightening his riding suit.
"Our friend got hurt; this is personal now," Yusei tells him, also getting ready.
Glad that his friends are all in, Crow gets ready to mount his bike. Within minutes, the Signer group takes off.
…
There's a shining light on the horizon. Morning is upon Japan. And Yusei is driving while still pursuing Ghost. That is when a D-Wheel arrives at his rear. Checking the lack of vehicle registration, Yusei realizes who it is.
"So you've finally arrived, Ghost!" Yusei says before activating Speed World 2.
Duel Mode – Autopilot Standby
Both players activate duel mode as the Riding Duel begins. The road they're traveling on adjusts as well, activating in response to their duel modes. Flashing lights tell other drivers that a Riding Duel is starting, and they drive to a lower road harmlessly. Barriers form around the duelists as their path is set.
"Riding Duel Acceleration!"
Yusei Fudo: 4000
Ghost: 4000
…
As the duel begins, Jack and Crow receive a notification on their monitors. The two converge onto Yusei on a separate road, just in time to see something interesting.
"By destroying Wise Core, I can special summon from my deck: Kikoutei Wisel Infinity, Wisel Top, Wisel Attack, Wisel Guard, and Wisel Carrier!" Five machine monsters appear in Ghost's field. It's a white sphere with a glowing green core, a strange head shaped like a snake, a hand with a blade poking out, a more armored piece
"Did you just summon a bunch of monsters off one effect?"
"Don't be surprised just yet. Combine, Wisel!" The parts fly forth; Top twists to become a head with a red-eye, Guard unfurls to become an armored arm, Attack pulls out to become an arm with a blade attached, and Carrier unfolds to be leg jets. Carrier attaches to the bottom of Infinity as legs, Guard becomes the right arm, Attack the left, and Top is the head, creating a humanoid robot.
Machine Emperor Wisel Infinity: 2500/2000 (1)
Yusei looks back at the machine, muttering, "What's this giant robot? A Fusion, or did he release them to make a new monster?"
"Have you finished your turn?" asks Ghost tauntingly.
Scuffing, Yusei takes two cards and sets them. The rising sun shines across the world, gleaming off Wisel as it points itself to Yusei.
Ghost draws, before saying, "Attack, Wisel Infinity!"
The robot aims its blade at Max Warrior before shooting forward. Yusei activates his trap, creating a barrier that blocks the attack. For four seconds. And then, Max Warrior is cleaved.
Yusei: 3250
Yusei shouts in pain as he feels a shockwave. It's just like with the Dark Signers. "And, Shock Reborn allows me to revive a monster weaker than the damage I took."
Rising to the field is One-Shot Booster. Seeing it, Ghost sets a card and ends his turn. Yusei then draws, ready to take his knowledge to the test.
"I'll activate Angel Baton." Using his Speed Spell, he draws two and discards one. With it, he summons Debris Dragon, using its power to revive the monster he discarded, Gauntlet Warrior. "With my level four Debris Dragon, I'll tune it with Gauntlet Warrior and One-Shot Booster!"
His three monsters form a line of light. "Clustering wishes shall come together to form a new star. Become the path the light shines upon; Synchro Summon!" From the light of Synchro arrives his ace. "Take flight, Stardust Dragon!"
Though he's summoned his ace, Ghost looks not too worried. In fact, he smirks. "Next, I activate Meteor Wave!" Glitter sparkles around the dragon as it flies, its power rising due to the trap card.
Stardust: 2800
"Attack Wisel Infinity! Shooting Sonic!" Stardust takes aim and charges.
"Wisel Guard's effect! It shall redirect any attack upon it!" The shield arm raises in response as Stardust fires, the beam piercing through and destroying it.
While surprised it only lost a limb, Yusei continues with, "Meteor Wave gives Stardust piercing!"
Ghost: 2400
Looking up at the monster, Yusei starts to understand how this works. At first, he assumed it to be a different monster Ghost summoned. Instead, they have remained five separate monsters; the combining aspect is a Solid Vision visual trick.
Finding he can't do much else, he sets a card and ends his turn.
At that, Ghost checks his monitor. It shows him information on Yusei. "So… he wasn't just some random duelist. It's the Signer that defeated Goodwin, Yusei Fudo…" Ghost trains his eyes on the duelist. "I'll be going against his orders, but if he loses at this point, he was wrong about him."
Ghost then draws, adding the card to his hand and placing another onto the field. Wisel Guard 3 appears, being a stronger version of the card Yusei broke earlier. It attaches to Wisel's right.
"This is…" Yusei glances back at Ghost. Wisel Infinity is a lot stronger than he expected. Even if a monster gets destroyed, he can replace it with a better one. And each part supplements the middle that connects them all.
"It's no use, Yusei! Wisel is repairable!"
"Ghost! Answer me this! You're already this good a duelist, so why are you assaulting the D-Wheelers?!"
"D-Wheeler? I'm not after you duelists. My true goal has been removing that which is unnecessary to humanity, damaging even!"
"Unnecessary?"
"Correct. It's those things you call Synchro Monsters. Those white cards represent human evolution, which is unneeded for the path humanity has to follow. As one of the users, you shall suffer too at the hands of the Synchro Killer's power!"
Wait. "Synchro Killer?"
"Wisel Infinity's effect, activate!" The center machine fires lime ropes of energy at Stardust Dragon. They entangle its neck, arms, legs, and even the tail.
"Stardust!"
"By targeting one Synchro Monster, that monster is absorbed by Wisel Infinity!" The machine completely absorbs the dragon within. "And, Wisel's attack power increases by that monster's attack!"
Wisel: 5000
Yusei then realizes what Ushio meant; these things are anti-Synchro monsters.
While watching Jack and Crow are also perplexed. A monster that can take their best monsters that easily? Why have they never heard of it before?
"Wisel Infinity, attack Yusei directly!" Wisel's eye flashes before it flies forward. Luckily, Scrap-Iron Scarecrow blocks the blade. After it resets, Ghost simply sets a card before ending his turn.
Yusei draws for his turn, thinking of a possible means of saving Stardust. Looking at his hand, he sets a card and summons Vehicular. This two-wheel bike machine rides behind Yusei guarding him. Sadly, that's it.
With his turn over, Ghost draws and flips over his trap. "Wise A3! I swap Wisel Attack with Wisel Attack 3!"
Wisel Infinity's arm swaps out with a new one, this time with a larger, sharper, spikier blade.
Wisel Infinity: 5300
"Wisel, attack Vehicular!" The machine flies in to strike Yusei.
Finding it weird that he's actually attacking despite him knowing he has Scrap-Iron Scarecrow, Yusei uses his trap to block. But, he was expecting it.
"Trap card open; Battle Return!" Ghost's trap causes Wisel's attack power to drop to 2650. It then flies again for Vehicular, slashing it to pieces. After all, traps can't activate the turn they are set. Even more, Wisel Attack 3 gives piercing.
Yusei: 800
"When Vehicular is destroyed, I can special summon Unicular in its place!" says Yusei as a new monster appears on a single wheel, replacing the bi-wheel monster.
"Finally, I play Trap Recycle!" Using its effect, he pulls up the trap card Battle Return after ditching another card and adds it to his hand. "But, this trap cannot be set this turn."
While watching, Crow scuffs seeing Yusei is in trouble. Jack has another reaction. "Yusei! Quit messing around! I will not put up with such a pathetic duel!"
Having heard him, Yusei draws for his turn. But, it's nothing that can help. "I activate Speed World 2's effect; by removing 7 of my counters, I can draw again."
He stares at his deck, hoping for a miracle. In his mind, he closes his eyes, causing his marks to activate. 'Jack, Aki, Lua, Luca, I'm borrowing your powers.'
Jack looks down at his mark glowing. "This is…" He then smirks, allowing his powers to lend over to Yusei. Over back at the house, the others do so as well, allowing the Signer to form the mark of the dragon on his back.
'According to Ancient Fairy Dragon, my two marks form to make a single new mark; the Body of the Dragon. With it, I have direct access to the Crimson Dragon's power.'
The top card of his deck glows before he draws it. "I summon the Draconis Messiah – Savior Dragon!"
Savior Dragon makes its first reappearance in six months, flying in the skies above Yusei. "Next, I activate Synchro Material! This trap allows me to use monsters on either side of the field to Synchro Summon! Even if they were equipped as magic cards!"
With that, the effect of the trap spreads to Stardust inside of Wisel, much to Ghost's horror. It causes the dragon to break free. "I'll tune my level 8 Stardust Dragon and my level 1 Unicular with my level 1 Tuner Savior Dragon!"
His three monsters merge together. "The shine of clustering stars will illuminate a new miracle! Become the path the light shines upon; Synchro Summon!" He leaps up to merge with his new monster. "Arrive in Light, Savior Star Dragon!"
His strongest monster appears on the field, flying through the air.
SSD: 3800/3000 (10)
Wisel: 2800
"Even if you've stolen Stardust back, it won't matter! You only have one monster to attack with, and Wisel Guard 3 cannot be destroyed by battle once per turn!" Ghost tells Yusei.
"Then I'll go around it; Savior Star can negate Wisel Guard 3's effect!" The dragon's eyes shine, representing the right arm's power draining.
"Go ahead and negate it; Wisel Infinity may be destroyed, but I'll survive!"
Smirking, Yusei says, "Wrong. You see, Wisel is five monsters acting as one; without Guard protecting the rest, I can attack any part, including the weakest part you left in attack mode!"
"Damn it. He noticed…"
With that, Savior Star flies in aiming for the head. "Shooting Blaster Sonic!" The dragon destroys the head, causing the rest of the machine to explode. Ghost takes the full 3100 points of damage before he goes off course.
By breaking through the protection and landing in the forest below.
Shocked, the others stop before driving to an opening to rescue him.
Down in the forest, a mysterious person appears approaching Ghost. This gray-haired adult with a sword and cloak over his head picks up the duel pad that holds the cards along with the rest of the deck. He then looks up at the dragon still in the air.
"Yusei Fudo… you're gonna pay for getting in our way." He then walks off.
Long after he's gone, Yusei, Jack, and Crow reach Ghost still on his D-Wheel. The former places a hand on the duelist hoping to get a response. Instead, he sees his body sparking and the arm falls off.
"What?!" The trio then gets a closer look, revealing the man is actually a robot.
Later…
Back at the home of Yusei, Jack, and Crow, the trio and the rest of the Signers are in the basement with Mikage and Ushio. Here, the older Security member explains this mechanism.
"Riding Roid?" asks Crow for reaffirmation.
"It's something we've been developing, a practice robot for Riding Duels. It went missing a few weeks ago… to think it was Ghost all along." Ushio shrugs before crossing his arms. "Too bad the memory chip got destroyed."
"There was nothing on it anyway," says Yusei before chucking the chip at Ushio. As he catches it and stares, Yusei continues with, "I suppose whoever was behind the incident configured the robot to delete all data in the event of its defeat."
"Wait… did you remove evidence?!"
"Calm down," Crow tells him. "Yusei's skills are a lot more effective than anyone else."
"That's not the poi-whatever…" Ultimately, he gives up on it.
Lua looks at the design specs left next to the machine's parts. "I wanted to see how that robot was like in person!"
"Lua, people got hurt because of it!" his sister reminds him.
Crow then gets to the meat of the topic. "So, here's my thing; who would steal a robot and rig it to attack duelists for using Synchro monsters?"
"I don't know," Yusei states with worry. "But whoever it is, we can't let them do this again. We'll unveil this villain and take him down."
As everyone nods, one thought sits within Yusei. 'The damage that robot made was real… is this a problem on the same level as the Dark Signers?'
…
Over in a bright, cosmic room, three people sit. One is the man from before who collected the Wisel cards. Another is a child with red hair, a metal plating around his eye opposite the first person's. The last is an old, bigger man with a metal mask over his mouth. Both are dressed similarly to the first guy.
"You wanna tell us what you were thinking with that, Placido? All that talk and your toy broke," says the little one mockingly.
"It was a test, Luciano. If it ended that quick, it would be no fun," he replies, denying how he truly felt.
"As if! You're shaking in your boots after losing to Yusei Fudo!" Obviously, Placido is angry about that.
"Enough!" speaks the big guy, his voice deep enough to put an end to the bickering. "Placido, your card was sent first, so until ours arrive, you'll have to push for the ending we seek. However, we need Yusei Fudo alive for the time being, so hold off on your revenge."
"Jose, don't tell me what to-"
"These are his orders!" Jose reminds Placido of their plan, causing the latter to be pacified. "We'll pick up on the Ghost project later. For now, we have duties as the three Emperors of Yliaster."
Lightz: I hope you enjoyed that little chapter. Unfortunately, I may/probably/definitely/will be updating less frequently. At least for the next update. After that, I should be back on course. Should I tell you why? If you're also a gamer, you probably know why.
