Season 2 Episode 9: Marshall And Ben, Home Alone! Doing A Rescue On Their Own!
February 10th, 2030
Marshall had made a rapid recovery from his icy dip, the next day he was back to his chipper and clumsy self. Ben wondered why the pup had done something that was so reckless… What if he hadn't been able to undo Everest's seat buckle? Whatever the reason, Everest and Marshall were a lot closer now. He and the husky talked on a daily basis after that life-threatening experience. Ben supposed it was only natural, as the two of them already had feelings for one another, and nearly freezing in the ocean had only strengthened those feelings.
Today, however, was a day that was unique. The production of the Air Patroller was going along nicely due to Ace helping with the construction, and Ace wanted to help train the pups for their aerial deployments. It had been agreed upon that the aerial based pup packs would include parachutes in case of emergency, and so Ace had offered to take Ryder and the others parachuting. Currently the pups were practicing by bouncing on the trampoline, as the snow had melted and the weather had warmed up to about forty degrees (a lot warmer than it had been).
"Chase in outer space!" The German Shepherd giggled as he bounced off of the trampoline into the air and landed on the ground.
"Woohoo! My turn!" Zuma squealed happily as he leapt onto the trampoline, bouncing up and down to great heights.
"That was the bounciest bounce yet, I think!" The chocolate lab chuckled, before getting off of the springboard.
Tuck and Ella did a few springs and had fun with it, excited for their first time parachuting. Skye giggled as she hopped onto the bouncy sheet, doing a few flips and twirls with each of her jumps. "Who's next?" Skye asked as she got off of the trampoline for the next practitioner.
"Go ahead, Marshall!" Rubble suggested.
Marshall shook his head no. "Uh, you first, Rubble!" Marshall quickly said.
"If you say so!" Rubble replied with a grin on his face, letting out several howls of joy as he walked up to the trampoline and flopped onto it, jumping sky high. "IIt's Rubble, flying on the double!" The bulldog roared as he tumbled through the air. Glancing over to Marshall, with intent eyes, Rubble nodded his head as he walked towards the dalmatian. "Come on, take a bounce Marshall!" Rubble insisted.
Marshall gulped and looked at Ben nervously. "I know you can do it, buddy!" Ben encouraged.
"Okay… just not too high." Marshall sighed as he trotted up to the trampoline and made small bounces. "How was that?" Marshall asked.
"HIGHER!" The rest of the pups exclaimed. They continued to push Marshall to jump higher until Marshall jumped so high that he got caught in a tree.
"That's enough flying for one day! I'll just hang around up here!" Marshall joked, trying to mask his fear of heights.
Then Marshall fell out of the tree, landing in the grass. "You just need to work on your landing! That's the most important part of parachuting." Chase advised his brother.
"Thanks…" Marshall sputtered.
Ben smiled as he gave Marshall a treat. "You were really brave, Marshall." Ben complimented his pup.
Ace and Ryder came out of the Lookout lobby, with Ace in her gear. "Hey pups! Hi Skye!" Ace greeted the canines as the cockapoo leapt into her arms and gave her some licks.
"Hi, pups. Ready for some parachute practice?" Ryder asked as Ace set Skye down.
"We've got our gear and we're ready to fly!" Skye yipped.
"Except, well, me…" Marshall admitted.
"Aww, Marshall, what's wrong?" Ace asked sweetly, bending down and scratching the spotted dog under the chin.
"Um, I don't like flying. Especially when flying means falling." Marshall answered.
"That's okay! You can stay with Ben." Ace comforted him.
"Wait, Ben isn't coming with you guys? Why doesn't he need to learn how to parachute?" Marshall wondered.
Ben grinned as he pulled his wallet out and rummaged through it before presenting Marshall with a skydiving license. "Remember when I went on vacation two years ago with my good friend Danny? Well, we went on down to Angel Grove for a charity festival, where they partake in all sorts of extreme sports and such! The event lasted several days, and they were giving a skydiving course. Danny and I managed to get ourselves USPA C level licenses while at that event! It was also how he earned the title of 'Daring Danny X'." Ben explained.
"COOL!" Marshall gasped.
Ben turned to Ryder and Ace, picking up Marshall and giving him a belly rub as he talked to his fellow teenagers. "Don't sweat it, you two. Me and Marshall will take good care of the Lookout while you're gone. We also can run some errands too!" Ben reassured them.
"That's awesome! I've been meaning to go get some groceries and stock up on pup treats and amenities. Thanks for reminding me! I'll text you a list of supplies that we need." Ryder remembered, smiling as he thanked Ben for offering to visit the store.
Marshall was ecstatic at this news. "FIELD TRIP!" Marshall shouted in delight.
Ryder, Ace, Tuck, Ella, Alex, Chase, Skye, Zuma, Rocky, and Rubble climbed into their vehicles as they got ready to leave. "Bye everyone! We'll handle things here while you're gone!" Ben called out, bidding the group farewell as they went to go and practice their parachuting.
Smiling as he picked Marshall up and put the pup's firefighting helmet on, he placed his favorite pup in the basket of his motorcycle. His pup pad buzzed, and Ben saw that Ryder had texted a list of the items they needed to buy from the store. "Let's go and get those items. And if you behave well, Marshall, we could get something extra special for you! Like a toy, or a treat!" Ben promised the fire fighting canine as they began to drive out into town.
Marshall let out a howl of joy as the wind rippled through his fur, with Ben feeling extremely happy about this whole thing. He felt unstoppable, and today was going to be a great, fantastic day! "Okay, what are we getting… toothpaste, toilet paper, fruits, vegetables, pup treats, pizzas, a specific perfume brand that I don't have any idea how to pronounce for Ace…" Ben murmured as Marshall sat in the shopping cart, smiling as he helped Ben find where certain items were.
"There's the pizza brand you like, Ben!" Marshall told him.
Ben swerved his head to the side and yup, there it was. Home Run pizza, cheese, regular crust. Picking three boxes up and placing them in the cart, Ben smiled as he booped Marshall on the nose. "Well, aren't you mister helpful today, Marshall! I would have missed that for sure had you not pointed that out." Ben chuckled.
Marshall puffed up his chest with pride as he helped find the fresh produce, the pup treat brand that he and the other Paw Patrol members loved, and even managed to sniff out the perfume type that Katie wanted. "Whew, this one smells strong! But it's an exact match. I can tell!" Marshall gagged as he pointed a paw at a bottle labeled "Eau De Airette".
"Super sniffer too. Okay, all that's left is the toothpaste." Ben noted, having left that amenity for last as it was close to the entrance and checkout aisle sections of the store.
As Ben pushed Marshall and the shopping cart through the toothpaste section, Marshall gasped and his eyes widened. "Ben, look! It's the Whoosh's toothpaste! Can we get it, can we get it? Pleeeeeease?" Marshall pleaded.
"Marshall, you can't brush your teeth with this. This stuff could probably kill you." Ben pointed out.
"I know… I just wanna support the Whoosh." Marshall sighed.
Ben picked up a tube of the dental care product and looked at it, weighing his options. "…I do need new toothpaste… all right, ya little rascal, you've convinced me." Ben giggled as he placed it in the shopping cart.
Once they got out of the store and back to the motorcycle, Ben realized they had a problem. "There's too many groceries for me to fit with you in there, Marshall!" Ben gasped.
"Oh no! What are we gonna do?" Marshall wondered, a little alarmed.
"Sounds like you two could use an extra paw… or in this case, an extra basket! Meow!" A familiar voice cried out.
Ben and Marshall turned their heads to see Wild ride up behind them on his motorcycle. "WILD!" The puppy and human duo cheered.
"Hey Ben! Hey Marshall! Good to see you two! I just got done gassing up my motorcycle at the store's gas station. Want me to help you with those groceries?" Wild offered, a sly grin spreading across his muzzle as he gestured to his large grocery basket that was in front of his motorcycle.
"We'd really appreciate it!" Ben gratefully answered, placing his purchases in the kitten's bike basket before the two drove off to the Lookout.
"Where are the others?" Wild asked Marshall while Ben unloaded the groceries in the Lookout tower's lobby.
"They went parachuting! I stayed behind… I'm kind of afraid of heights." Marshall admitted.
Wind nodded his head in understanding. "I can see why you might not like heights. I used to be afraid of them too." Wild answered.
"You did? What helped you get over being afraid of them?" Marshall wondered.
"Climbing up higher and higher, every day, helped me overcome my fear! Course, it might not necessarily work for you, since you're not a cat and you can't climb… but I'm sure you'll find another way to beat this fear! But uh, it doesn't exactly work for physical fears… like mice." Wild explained.
"Really? Thanks, Wild! I'll take that advice!" Marshall thanked Wild, appreciating the tips that the cat had given.
The bronze kitten gasped as he remembered something. "OH NO! I was supposed to get cat food for me and my mom at the store! Sorry Ben! Sorry Marshall! I gotta go get that and bring it to her! She's been under the weather recently so she can't get food herself, I've had to bring it to her. See you later! This cat's gotta run!" Wild yelped, before darting out of the Lookout tower lobby.
Marshall started to play Pup Pup Boogie as Ben finished putting away the groceries. They were interrupted, however, by Katie calling them. "Ryder?! It's Katie." The veterinarian girl said as her face popped onto the monitor. Marshall, who had just finished doing a tailspin, ended up crashing into a pile of tennis balls and the pups' food bowls. "Oh! Hi Marshall!" Katie greeted.
"Hi Katie!" Marshall replied, Chase's star patterned blue bowl on his head.
Ben came into view of the monitor. "What am I, chopped liver?" Ben scoffed.
Katie put a hand to her mouth as she let out a laugh. "Good to see you too Ben. Is Ryder around? I have an emergency." Katie said, giving Ben a hello as well.
"Ryder took the pups out to practice their pup-ichute skills. I'm looking after the Lookout with Ben." Marshall told her.
"Oh… okay, when will they be back?" Katie inquired.
"Not for a while, but come on Katie. You act like Marshall and I can't handle a job on our own." Ben huffed, crossing his arms.
"Well, all right. Some kittens got out of their carrier, and are running all over Adventure Bay! I can't find them alone! I need you to help me track them down and get them back in their carrier where they belong." Katie announced.
"No job is too big, no pup is too small! Even if he's the only pup here!" Marshall responded.
"PAW Patrol, to the lookout!" Marshall then yelled after cutting the call, grabbing the pup packs and hats and pushing them into the elevator. "Hey, I'm the first pup on the elevator this time! …Though I'm also the last pup on the elevator too. Oh well!" Marshall giggled. The pile of helmets tumbled over onto Marshall, and Ben got on the elevator, laughing with Marshall as the glass lift ascended to the halfway point, dressing Marshall in his fire pup gear before it reached the top.
"PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ryder, sir!" Marshall gruffly said, imitating Chase.
"Thanks for hurrying up, Marshall. Katie has an emergency only the PAW Patrol can handle. I need, uh, Marshall to bring your ladder and all the PAW Patrol tools to help, just in case. Ben, you'll come with me too, and lend an extra hand when needed." Marshall then said, standing in front of the Lookout control panel and giving his best Ryder impersonation.
"PAW Patrol, roll to the rescue!" Ben declared as he jumped down the fire pole and slid into the garage while Marshall took the slide with the pup packs and hats to his fire truck. The two of them rode out of the Lookout's parking lot and onto the road, heading out to help Katie.
"Good thinking, bringing the other pup packs with you, Marshall. You're really stepping up today." Ben complimented the dalmatian as they parked in front of Katie's salon.
"Thanks for coming, Marshall and Ben! One of the cats ran out to the beach!" Katie revealed.
"Then that's where we're going!" Ben confidently shouted as he and Marshall drove to the sandy area of Adventure Bay.
"Easy… easy…" Marshall whispered as he approached the kitten, which was playing with a starfish.
Leaping after him, the cat jumped out of Marshall's reach, before getting stuck in a log that was teetering back and forth. Katie and Ben tried to coax the cat out, but it was too obsessed with chasing after the starfish. "Maybe if I tilt-" Ben started to suggest.
"I GOT THIS!" Marshall blurted out, running back to his fire truck and returning with Rubble's shovel and helmet on. "Watch this! I'll use Rubble's shovel! Marshall on the double! ARF!" The dalmatian barked, the yellow digging implement emerging from the pup pack and tilting the end of the log so the kitten had nowhere to slide but out of the tree log.
"Great! Three more to go!" Katie cheered as she placed the first of the four young cats inside the carrier.
It didn't take long for them to find the second feline on one of the lounge chairs that were set up around the beach. After Marshall chased the cat around and attempted to lead it into the cat carrier, the cat jumped over the carrier and Marshall got his head in the carrier. Katie found the cat chasing a butterfly and crawled after it, with Marshall going back to his fire truck. "I got this! Marshall is on the case! NET!" Marshall cried out as he returned, launching Chase's net from his police pup pack.
The net ended up getting both Katie and the kitten underneath it, but Katie didn't mind. They then saw the third kitten on a surfboard, drifting out to sea.
"She's drifting out into the ocean!" Ben yelped, getting ready to undress.
"Ben, don't take off your clothes! Don't worry, I'll handle this! Time to get wet!" Marshall promised, running into the ocean with Zuma's helmet and propeller pup pack. Ben was impressed as Marshall used the propellers to get the surfboard back to shore.
"Marshall, you're doing amazing! We have just one kitten left!" Ben roared in excitement, proud of Marshall for everything.
Little did he know that the pup wasn't done yet… As they stopped in front of the lemonade stand, Marshall squeaked in horror. "The cat's up on the bridge!" Marshall howled as he drove his truck after it. The cat climbed up one of the ropes, and it was too high up for Marshall's ladder to reach. Marshall gulped as he looked down at the two pup packs he had remaining. Rocky's claw and screwdriver certainly wouldn't help here… he had one option left. Grimacing as he put the goggles around his head and the newly fixed jetpack on his back, Marshall groaned as he stood there with Skye's gear on. "I hope this flies better than it fits…" Marshall moaned.
Ben scratched his head. "Marshall, are you sure you want to do this?" Ben asked.
Marshall looked at him and nodded. "I've got to! I'm the only pup who can help right now. Besides, I have to conquer my fear of heights at some point, right?" Marshall responded.
Ben fell silent for a second before smiling. "Yeah, you're right. And just like always, I have the utmost amount of faith in you, Marshall! I know you can do this." Ben reassured, giving his favorite pup words of comfort and hope.
"ARF ARF! WINGS! This pup's gotta fly!" Marshall growled, running forward and jumping into the air as the jetpack activated, causing him to soar into the sky. Managing to adjust himself and his flight trajectory, Marshall flew up to the top of the bridge and hugged the pole, letting the cat jump on his head. After flying around, he started to lose control and started yelling, which drew the attention of the Paw Patrol members back at the lookout.
"IS THAT MARSHALL!?" Tuck and Ella gasped.
"WEARING MY PUP PACK!?" Skye exclaimed.
Tossing the kitten to Katie, Marshall then crashed into the rest of the pups. Ben rode up on his motorcycle, looking a little embarrassed, but also extremely, EXTREMELY proud of Marshall. "Marshall, what have you been doing!? Why are you wearing my pup pack and my pilot cap?" Skye giggled.
Marshall blushed as he tore off the goggles, pup pack, and pup pack. "Um… I was helping save some kittens!" Marshall quickly answered.
"Really? Are you sure you weren't wearing my helmet for any other reason?" Skye teased.
"I'm absolutely positive. Though I think he could have skipped the cap." Ben chuckled as he came up and helped Marshall remove the pup pack.
"You did a rescue all by yourself, with the rest of the team's pup packs! That's something I certainly wouldn't have been able to do. You did a great job, Marshy." Skye happily said, giving Marshall a sisterly kiss.
"Marshall, I'm so proud of you. You're an amazing brother." Chase grinned, hugging his brother in a puppy fashion.
"Doing everyone's jobs has worn me out! I think I'm gonna take a nap!" Marshall yawned, glancing to the Lookout. Everyone laughed alongside him, relishing the moment. In that moment, Marshall felt the most proud that he had ever felt. Like he had earned the respect of his team. Today was a moment that he would treasure with the rest of his family, for the rest of his life.
