Season 2 Episode 24: Pups Save The Big Bone! Introducing Rex!
April 9th, 2030
"I got it!" Ella shouted as she played soccer with the other pups.
"No, I got it!" Tuck argued as he stole the ball from his sister and tossed it into the air.
Skye yipped as she jumped up high, doing a backflip and headbutting the soccer ball into the goal. Zuma tried to catch it, but missed. "GOAL!" Zuma cheered for his sister.
Meanwhile, Ben was currently working on a new pup pack and vehicle for a commission. This was from the Princess of Barkingburg herself! She wanted to purchase a pup pack with a pincer claw, selfie stick, and vacuum cleaner for her pup. The vehicle's design was meant to be a roadster that could convert itself into a jet.
And elsewhere, a paleontologist, his wife, and their canine companion were getting ready for an excursion to the town of Adventure Bay. "You sure you want to do this, Tommy?" Their pet asked.
He was a Bernese Mountain Dog named Rex, and had been injured in a car accident that caused him to lose mobility in his back legs. "I'm sure. I've heard so much about Adventure Bay and the team there that my curiosity can't wait. Besides, a pup like you could use some friends to hang out with." Rex's owner Tommy replied.
"But what if they make fun of me?" Rex whimpered.
Tommy's wife, Katherine (affectionately referred to as 'Kat' by her husband and their pet), bent down and scratched Rex underneath the chin. "It's okay, Rex. If this team of dogs are as heroic and noble as Carter and Ethan say they are, then they'll accept you no matter what." Kat reassured Rex.
The Bernese smiled as he thought of finally getting to have some pup friends. All the dogs in Angel Grove made fun of Rex for his condition. The family got in their car and started to drive off, heading into the desert for Adventure Bay. Within that desert, Captain Horatio Turbot and his cousin Francois were working on excavating the last bone for the dinosaur skeleton that was on display at the Adventure Bay Museum. With a few carefully positioned hammer strikes, some of the rocks covering the cliff face crumbled away and exposed the dinosaur fossil that they had been searching for. "Look, Francois! It's the femur for the fossilized dinosaur skeleton we found!" Captain Turbot exclaimed excitedly.
"Zat is fantastique! That means we can speed things up… perhaps with this!" His French cousin remarked, picking a sledgehammer up.
"I'm not so sure that's a good idea, cousin of mine…" Captain Turbot murmured worriedly.
"Pfft, as if! We will get ze job done much faster if we use this sledgehammer!" Francois scoffed before swinging the hammer down on the pile of rocks.
The ground beneath the two archaeological explorers began to crack and give way, with Horatio having to pull his brother to safety as a large amount of the cliff collapsed and fell off in a rockslide, covering the road below in debris and making it impassable. The bone was now significantly more uncovered… but the two Turbots were now stranded on a small rocky ledge.
"The bad news is we're totally trapped on this cliff, with no way up or down!" Captain Turbot remarked.
"WHAT IS ZE GOOD NEWS THEN!?" His brother shouted angrily.
"Look, Francois! The rumbling rockslide revealed the dino bone!" Horatio pointed out.
His brother smiled smugly. "If we can dig out ze rest of ze bone, ze dinosaur skeleton is complete! I told you it would be faster!" Francois smirked, forgetting for a moment that they could easily fall off the narrow stone cropping they were currently situated on.
Captain Turbot pulled out his phone to call Ryder, but Francois accidentally dropped it, and it fell to the ground, shattering. "OH NO!" Horatio yelled out.
Lucky for them, help was on the way. Tommy, Kat, and Rex stopped at the pile of rocks, and debated whether to go around it or call for help.
"Miss Kat! Mister Tommy! Look! Those two men are stuck up on that rocky ledge!" Rex gasped, pointing at the window.
His owners turned their heads and their eyes widened as they saw the Turbots stranded up there. "I'll call 911. Rex, Kat, you go out there and check on them, make sure that they're okay." Tommy told his wife and dog.
"Got it!" Kat answered before opening the car door and helping Rex out of the back seat.
Ben was putting the finishing touches on this pup pack with Rocky's help when he got a call on the pup pad. What intrigued him about this call was the fact that the caller wasn't contacting their personal hotline. Rather, they were calling 911. Mayor Goodway had set things up so that any 911 calls close to Adventure Bay would be redirected to the Paw Patrol. Answering the call, Ben saw a worried looking older man on the other end of the line. "Hello, this is Ben Allen of the Paw Patrol speaking. What's your emergency?" Ben smoothly asked, Rocky getting in view of the camera.
"...Paw Patrol? I called 911. Is this some sort of late April Fools prank? Did someone hijack my phone?" The older man suspiciously said.
Ben sighed as he realized the caller was unfamiliar with Adventure Bay and the Paw Patrol. "No, this is not a prank or a hacking. All 911 calls within the Adventure Bay area and the outskirts of it are redirected to us so that we can help people who have emergencies. What are you calling for?" Ben replied.
The man studied Ben and Rocky before making an observation. "...You're eighteen. And that pup is what, six years old? You're the group in charge of emergency services around here?" He asked in surprise.
Ben nodded his head as Ryder came in. "Yes, Ben is eighteen, and I'm seventeen, almost eighteen. What are you calling for?" Ryder inquired.
The older man shook his head. "So you're telling me that the Paw Patrol that Carter was singing the praises of is nothing more than two teenagers and their puppies?! Seriously?!" The caller scoffed.
"Hey, don't doubt my owners just because they're kind of young in human years!" Rocky protested.
"Yeah, and we do a DAMN GOOD JOB serving the people of Adventure Bay. No person has died in a crisis in Adventure Bay since we formed this group, and we have a stellar record. The crime rate in our city has gone down to almost zero. Now what is your emergency?" Ben growled in frustration.
The older man looked a little taken aback, before getting back on track. "We were driving on the desert highway to Adventure Bay when we were stopped by a rockslide. There are two men that are stuck on a small stone ledge, and there's also a massive dinosaur bone. I think that they were excavating the bone and somehow caused the rockslide, getting them stranded up there. They need rescuing." The older man said.
Ben nodded his head in understanding. "That must be the Turbots. They told us they were going to do some digging and try to complete the dinosaur skeleton for our museum. We'll be there soon. Until then, keep the two calm." Ben replied before ending the call.
Something about that older guy looked familiar, but Ben couldn't quite place his finger on it. That didn't matter right now, though. The Turbots were in need of assistance!
"PAW Patrol, to the Lookout!" Ben announced, summoning Ryder and the others.
When they got up from the elevator, they all lined up in front of Ben. "PAW Patrol, ready for action, Ben, sir!" Chase reported.
"Thanks for racing over, pups. We've got trouble today. Cap'n Turbot and Francois were in the middle of an archeological dig when they uncovered something, but accidentally caused a rockslide!" Ben explained.
The animatic showed the Turbots excited about the massive bone protruding out of the stone cliff face, then getting nervous as they were stuck up high. "That's the biggest puppy snack bone I've ever seen!" Rubble squealed.
"Rubble, that's not a snack bone! That's a dinosaur bone!" Rocky giggled, amused by Rubble's small mindedness.
"A dinosaur? Cool! Are there any still around?" Zuma asked.
"Nope! They're all extinct, Zuma. That means they're not around anymore!" Skye answered.
"When I'm ex-stink, Ryder just gives me a bath!" Rubble joked.
As the pups laughed, Ben smiled as he was reminded of the fact that they were still pretty much children. "This bone is the last one that is missing from the Adventure Bay Museum's t-rex skeleton! In addition, the highway has become blocked due to the rockslide. We're going to need to divide and conquer for this mission. Since there are some bystanders nearby, we'll need some members to come with us and keep them calm. Tuck, Ella, the two of you are on bystander duty." Ben continued, giving assignments to the Golden Retriever Twins.
Ryder stepped forward, having formulated a plan. "Rocky, I'll need you to use your recycling truck's pallet loaders to remove the debris from the road. Rubble, I need you and your crane to help get that bone down safely. Marshall, I need you and your ladder to get Cap'n Turbot and Francois to safety." Ryder instructed.
"We're on it!" Tuck and Ella chorused.
"I'm fired up for a ruff ruff rescue!" The dalmatian howled.
"Green means go!" The mixed breed exclaimed.
"Rubble on the double!" The bulldog roared.
"PAW Patrol, roll to the rescue!" Ben declared as he and Ryder took the fire pole to the garage while the other pups went down the slide to get to their vehicles.
Ben and Ryder rode out of the garage on their motorcycle and ATV, while the pups followed in their pupmobiles. With the Rescue Racer upgrade, their vehicles not only had the ability to shift into race car mode, but their base speeds had been increased by a significant amount as well. With these enhanced speeds, they were able to hightail it to the desert area where they had received the call.
Tuck and Ella rode around the rocks that were on the road and got to the other side, where they dismounted their bikes and ran to the man, woman, and their dog on the ground. "Don't worry, everyone!" Ella reassured the three of them.
"Ryder, Ben, and the others will save the Turbots." Tuck promised.
The woman smiled. "Thank you, but we're fine. Just worried for those two, that's all."
She said. Rex whimpered as he hid behind his owner's legs, a little anxious. Ella got a little bit nervous too and hid behind Tuck. The male Golden Retriever chuckled as his sister ran behind him. "Still a bit shy about meeting other dogs, sis?" Tuck teased his sibling.
"Y-yeah…" Ella admitted.
"Well, he looks like he's a little shy too. Come on, sis." Tuck encouraged, nudging his sister.
Ella whined as she took in a shaky breath before walking up to the dog who had wheels on his two back legs. "H-hi… I'm Ella." She greeted him.
The Bernese mountain dog blinked and lifted up his head, his quivering calming down. "H-hey… My name is Rex." He introduced himself.
Ella glanced at the dinosaur bone and then back at him. "R-Rex? As in like the t-rex dinosaur?" Ella asked.
A little bit at a loss for words, Rex nodded his head in confirmation. Ella let out a small laugh. "Rex… I like it. That's a cute name." Ella responded.
Rex blushed in response. "You really think so?" Rex gasped. Ella blushed as she nodded her head.
Rubble finished clearing the rocks that were blocking the road, allowing Marshall to come in with his fire truck and use his ladder to help them down. However, the ladder was too short! "Oh no! He can't reach them!" Rex cried out in fear. He didn't know the Turbots, but he didn't want to see them hurt.
"Well, looks like your rescue force just failed. If I still was allowed to use my-" The older man scoffed.
"Tommy! Don't be like that!" His wife scolded.
"Sorry… I'm just worried." Tommy apologized.
"You had faith in me, Tommy. Have faith in these guys." Rex told his owner.
Softening his expression at Rex's plea, Tommy nodded his head. Ben smirked as he grabbed his pup pad. "Don't count this as a failure against us just yet. We don't give up when the first plan goes awry, we keep on trying! Saving one's life is saving the future!" Ben shouted.
"Skye! It's time for reinforcements. We need you and your copter's harness to get the Turbots down." Ryder contacted the cockapoo over the communications.
"This pup's gotta fly!" Skye yipped, and within fifteen minutes, her copter soared overhead, and secured Francois in the helicopter's harness before setting him back down on the ground safely.
"You're next, Horatio!" Francois called out to his cousin.
"I'm going to stay up here until the bone's dug out!" Captain Turbot exclaimed.
"That's a negative, Captain. That bone has been in the mountain for thousands of years. If we remove it before getting you to safety, then you could easily get hurt during the process of extracting the bone from the cliff face." Ben argued.
"He's right! I'm a paleontologist myself, and I can confirm from personal experience what your friend is saying, Captain. Removing the bone before rescuing you runs the risk of you getting injured or causing a massive rockslide." Tommy agreed.
"Oh, all right. I'll hop in the harness." Captain Turbot sighed as he secured the strap around his waist, letting Skye take him back to the ground.
After Horatio was flown to the ground, Rubble started to use his crane and Skye had Ben in her harness with a pickaxe as they unearthed the rest of the bone. Riding back to Adventure Bay, the group met outside City Hall as the bone was put into place of the T-Rex skeleton. "Hey, I'm sorry about what I said. I just… Well, the idea of a team of dogs that can pilot vehicles is pretty far out there to me. And I've seen some really strange things in my life. I don't think I've introduced myself, actually. My name is Doctor Tommy Oliver, I'm a paleontologist, and this wonderful woman is Kat, my wife." Tommy apologized for what he said previously.
"No problem, sir. I understand that the concept of canines that can drive vehicles is still mind boggling to a majority of people." Ben chuckled, not too upset with the initial skepticism he had received from Tommy.
"I actually came to see what your whole group was about, as well as spend some time here with Kat and Rex. Say, are the rest of your dogs as nice as those Golden Retrievers?" Tommy replied.
Ben's head bobbed up and down in recognition. "Of course! Me and Ryder make sure to instill kindness and compassion in each and every member of the Paw Patrol. I noticed Rex's wheels…" Ben commented.
Tommy's face turned into a sad expression. "Yeah, we got Rex after he got hit by a car. He lost all movement in his back legs, so they gave him wheels to get around. The dogs in Angel Grove weren't very nice to him though. We were hoping that Rex could make some friends… Do you mind letting your pups hang out with him? He could use some canine companions." Tommy answered.
"Of course! Trust me, you won't regret this. Rex will love it here." Ben promised.
Rex smiled and his tail started to wag as he heard this. "So I'm going to get more friends? You guys are the nicest pups I've ever met!" Rex happily said. Ella gave him an affectionate nuzzle.
