Season 3 Episode 4: ADVENTURE CITY CALLS! PAW PATROL MOVIE PART ONE

May 1st, 2030

"Ryder, Ben, it's awful! Some fellow was passing over the bridge and he swerved, now his big rig is precariously hanging over the edge!" Francois Turbot told the two human leaders of the Paw Patrol.

"Got it, Francois. We're on our way!" Ben promised.

Ryder opened up his pup pad and summoned all of the members of the Paw Patrol. "Urgent situations like these call for urgent protocols! PAW Patrol, no time for a mission briefing and animatic! TO YOUR VEHICLES! We have a big truck hanging off the edge of the bridge!" Ryder announced over their communications.

"Wait, all of us!?" Wild exclaimed, noting how Ryder didn't use the word pups.

"That's right! ALL of us! Get to the Elevator now!" Ben shouted.

The pups ran to the Lookout tower and the lift rapidly raised up, the mechanical arms quickly dressing the group in their gear.

Taking the slide to their rides, the entire group rode out into the bay. "Zuma, go on the water. We're going to need you to save the man if he and his truck fall in. Keep the waterway secure. Skye, continue to monitor the situation from the air! Wild, control traffic and shut down the bridge. Chase, we're counting on you for this. Use your winch to retrieve the driver and get him to safety!" Ryder commanded.

"Everyone else, form a perimeter! Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, Tuck, Ella, Wild! Keep the civilians at a safe distance!" Ben ordered.

Along with the glider, they had added a winch to Chase's backpack that could serve as a grappling hook when needed. "WINCH!" Chase shouted out, launching the grapple and tying it around the bridge's upper section before lowering himself to the trapped truck driver.

"Sir, don't be alarmed. I'm coming down!" Chase reassured the man.

"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, the rescue team is here!" The truck driver breathed in relief, but gasped when he saw Chase pop up at the window. "A dog?" The truck driver cried out in shock.

"Actually, sir, I'm a puppy." Chase remarked.

"A BABY DOG!? THAT'S EVEN WORSE!" The truck driver shrieked.

"You're in shock, so I'm not gonna take that personally. Now let's get you outta here." Chase told him calmly, though he was beginning to become a bit irked by the truck driver's indignance.

"No way! I'm waiting right here for a real rescue. I'm not putting my fate in the paws of a pup!" The truck driver shouted nervously.

Something about that remark made Chase upset. "Sir, I can assure you that I do just as good of a job at keeping the peace as a human police officer! I put my life on the line nearly every day to help others. Now stop being stubborn and come on!" Chase growled.

Something about the conviction in Chase's words moved the truck driver. "Okay… I've changed my mind. I'll go with you." The truck driver nervously said as he grabbed onto Chase, shutting his eyes tight.

The German Shepherd activated his net and ensnared the truck driver in it, before his grappling hook began to retract and bring them to safety. The truck driver breathed a sigh of relief as he felt the ground beneath his body, opening his eyes up to see he was on solid ground. "GREAT WORK, PAW PATROL!" Mayor Goodway exclaimed.

The two humans turned to their pups and grinned. "Another perfect rescue, everyone." Ben announced.

Back at the Lookout control room, Ace, Ben, Katie, and Ryder were enjoying some iced water and having a battle royale of the Yugioh Trading Card Game while the pups were playing with each other. "Okay, I summon Rescue-ACE Turbulence!" Marshall yelled. Ben's phone buzzed and he looked at it to see a text.

It was from an Adventure City phone number. "Lbrty hre. Had 2 boro sum 1's phone. U got 2 see." The text read. Attached to the message was a Youtube livestream. Ben opened it up on the control room monitor, and a news livestream from Adventure City popped onto the screen, showing Mayor Humdinger standing at a podium.

"I want to start off by thanking each and every one of you for choosing me to be your new mayor. You could only vote for one name, and I for one am honored to have been chosen by the populace of this city." Mayor Humdinger graciously said. "YOU WERE THE ONLY NAME ON THE BALLOT!" A woman shouted at the top hat wearing man.

A burst of wind nearly made Henry's top hat blow away, and he looked rather startled by this ideation. "Wait, what!? Are you telling me that there was no one else running for mayor!? That's preposterous, I spoke to Joshua about the election last night and wished him well! Plus, weren't there several other people who had thrown their hat into the ring and tried to become mayor!?" Mayor Humdinger cried out in surprise.

"Yeah, but they all dropped out! I wonder why, huh? Maybe you did something to them!" A female Dachshund yelled out.

"Liberty!?" Ben gasped.

Mayor Humdinger became angry at this. "Now listen here, whoever said that! I may have a nephew who has done heinous things, and my sister might be a cheating racer, but I don't cheat when it comes to elections, you hear me!? I would NEVER force someone out of the race, or have someone force people into dropping out!" Mayor Humdinger yelled at the dachshund.

He took a deep breath and adjusted his tie. "Now, where was I? Oh yes. You know, they call this place Adventure City, but what's so adventure-y about it? The truth is, it's boring. Libraries? Boring! Museums? ALSO BORING! And those ugly dog parks? DEFINITELY BORING! But don't worry, I'm gonna put the adventure back in Adventure City! When I'm done with this place, you won't even recognize it. That's all I have to say for today, folks. Excuse me, but I have to make a call." Mayor Humdinger spoke, before going behind the stage.

The livestream then ended. "HUMDINGER!? Mayor of Adventure City? That's awful!" Rubble exclaimed.

Suddenly, they had another call come in. "PAW Patrol. What's your emergency?" Ryder asked as he answered the line.

"What? You answer your own calls? Oh, my goodness, I didn't even think I was gonna… Oh, I can't believe I'm looking at THE PAW Patrol! I am such a big fan! This is off the leash!" Liberty cheered.

"Is there something we can help you with?" Ryder asked.

"Yes, yes, yes! My name is Liberty and I'm calling from Adventure City. Something terrible has happened. Humdinger was just elected mayor. This guy's a disaster! He's going to destroy the whole city. Please, we need your help. Come quickly!" Liberty exclaimed before hanging up.

Another call came in, and everyone in the room was shocked to see that it was from Humdinger himself. "Humdinger!? What are you calling here for!? Don't you have a city to run!?" Katie asked.

"I know, but I'm calling because I believe I need your help. That little Dachshund girl has been tailing me for a while, and I know that one of you put her up to that. But I understand why. I can assure you, however, that I did not fix the election or try to fix it." Mayor Humdinger declared.

"So you want our help for what?" Ben scoffed.

"Adventure City's well equipped for a crisis, but I think they could use a little extra. I want you to figure out how I was the only person on the ballots. I think someone might have it out for me… I'm going to raise my bodyguards' salaries." Humdinger said before the phone call ended.

"Adventure City's in trouble. Come on, pups, pack your things. No city is too big, no pup is too small!" Ryder declared.

Chase however was walking away. "Chase?" Tuck wondered.

"What's wrong?" Ella asked.

"I'm not going." Chase answered.

"What?! But we have to! They need us!" Wild protested.

"I'm never going back to Adventure City!" Chase shouted at them, before taking the elevator out of the Lookout.

"Chase, wait!" Ryder cried out.

"What's got his leash in a knot!?" Zuma wondered worriedly.

"Oh no… Adventure City? This isn't good…" Skye whimpered, knowing the trauma that Chase had with the city.

Rubble turned to Skye with a curious look on his face. "Chase has been to Adventure City? Why didn't he tell us?" Rocky wondered.

Marshall had a dark expression on his face. "Because what happened to him there wasn't good." Marshall grimly said.

Rubble gasped. "Oh no! What happened to him?" Rubble asked.

"Chase has… a lot of tough memories from that place. He was abandoned there as a pup. The city was so big… and he was so small. On your own at that age, simply surviving to the next day is a battle. He was so young, and he had to become a warrior in his own way to keep going." Ryder told the other pups.

"I had enough trouble living on my own in Adventure Bay when Barb abandoned me." Skye whimpered.

"Yeah! And Skye used to have an owner! So it was at least ten times worse." Marshall added.

"Wait, why didn't our big brother tell us about this? Tuck and Ella, I can understand why they haven't learned about this. They've only been here for four months at this point. But Chase never said a thing about this to me, Zuma, or Rubble!" Rocky realized.

Ryder shook his head no. "He only told Marshall and Skye about this when it was just the three of them. I found Chase on the streets of the city, saved him from being hit by a car, and I took him back to the Adventure City tower where my uncle lived. Then we brought him to the vet. They found out that Chase had a nasty infection, and he was severely malnourished. The veterinarians told me that it was unlikely that Chase would manage to live more than three days." Ryder began.

Tears started to flow down his face as he recounted the emotional story of him nearly losing Chase. Remembering that experience made him break down even after all those years had passed. "I spent all three of those days making sure that Chase was the happiest pup in the world. I wanted to give Chase hope, a reason to keep fighting. I saw that Chase was the b-bravest dog ever. And I fought along with Chase. I didn't leave Chase's side for anything. I ate my meals with Chase, I slept cuddling the poor pup, and I barely even used the bathroom. I was so dedicated to taking care of Chase, and I did my best to make him feel comfortable in case… in case he didn't make it." Ryder continued.

"No pup or young boy should have to go through that. They should never have to sit by their loved one's bedside… Watching each breath they take, praying it won't be their last. To hold the paw of your pup, trying to memorize what it feels like so you won't forget. Chase being too scared to close his eyes, even when he's exhausted to the point of nearly passing out, because he's afraid that he will never open them ever again…" Ryder sniffled, tears flowing from his eyes.

Ben started to cry as well. It reminded him of what had happened to his own parents. They had grown very ill, and had died in front of him. He had been powerless to help them, and could only watch as they grew weaker and weaker with every passing hour before they finally died.

Choking back a sob, Ryder resumed his story. "At that point, Chase was barely verbose. But still, I can recall hearing the pup's cries for me whenever my eleven year old self had to leave him for less than two minutes. Every day, Chase grew weaker and weaker as the infection overcame his body. On the third and final evening…" Ryder trailed off. Ben pulled a photograph out from a hidden compartment of the control room panel, and showed it to the group.

The photo was of Chase and Ryder hugging each other, the pup looking so frail and fragile, clinging onto Ryder tightly as if the boy was the only thing keeping him from slipping into an insurmountable dark abyss. "The doctors said Chase would pass in his sleep that night. I wanted to give him the happiest evening of his existence before he went to the great fields in the sky. But when the sun shone on that morning, Chase was still with us. And I was so, SO happy. After everything that Chase had been through, it was a miracle. Against insurmountable odds… one boy managed to keep Chase alive." Ryder finished.

All of the Paw Patrol were sniffling and shedding tears. "That's so beautiful!" Rubble sobbed.

"I know. But you can't blame Chase for being afraid of the city for that. He nearly lost his life there multiple times." Ryder solemnly said.

Wild, Tuck, Ella, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, Skye, and Marshall all nodded their heads.

"He's going to need you all to support him when we go to Adventure City. We're his family. If anyone can help him beat those personal demons, it's us." Ben told them.

"We'll stick by him no matter what!" Marshall promised.

Ben, Wild, and the pups all got on the elevator to go and support Chase and help him realize that they needed to go to Adventure City. Ryder ran out to Chase, who was sitting down at the old acacia tree that he and Ryder had played at many times throughout the years. "Chase, come on! Let's talk about this!" Ryder pleaded.

"I don't want to go back to Adventure City. You know why." Chase growled.

"I know it was tough, but that was years ago." Ryder reminded the German Shepherd.

"I'm afraid that if I go back, everyone will see that I'm still that scared little pup, and not the canine that I've grown into, the hero that they expect me to be…" Chase sighed.

"It'll be nothing like when you were little. I promise. And it won't be just because of me. There's so much that's different in your life now! These people need not just help from you and me. They need the PAW Patrol!" Ryder declared, vowing to make sure that things were different.

"Exactly, Ryder!" Ben's voice cried out as he and the rest of the Paw Patrol ran up to Chase.

"There's so much that's different in your life than when you were back in Adventure City, Chase!" Rocky exclaimed.

"That's right! You have a family now!" Tuck announced.

"People who care about you!" Ella added.

"A fantastic feline friend who will lend a paw and give you a shoulder to lean on!" Wild shouted.

"You've grown into an awesome dude, Chase!" Zuma chimed in.

"You've got brothers and sisters who will support you no matter what!" Marshall roared.

"And a girlfriend who will give you strength." Skye continued, smiling as she licked Chase affectionately.

"And food, and a warm place to stay!" Rubble piped up.

"Don't forget about the fact that you've got the two greatest dads in the world: me and Ryder!" Ben chuckled, giving Chase some head pats.

Chase let out a howl of happiness, comforted by the fact that he was going to have the ones he loved at his side throughout this ordeal. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Chase barked.

The Paw Patrol started to get all of their things ready and headed to the basement, where the PAW Patroller was parked. As he looked at their van, Chase started to get nervous and fidgety. They'd be in the van for hours, and the longer it took to get there, the more anxious he would get. Ben noticed Chase's discomfort and bent down to the pup's level, giving him some calming strokes. "Don't worry, Chase. You won't have to worry about the trip and getting worried while we drive there. We aren't going there via the Paw Patroller." Ben reassured the police pup.

"We're not!? Then how are we going to get there?" Rocky mused.

Ben smirked as he opened up his pup pad and put it up to his ear, calling someone. "Hey Jack? This is Ben. Mind giving us a groundbridge to the Adventure City Lookout? You've got the coordinates for our tower in Adventure Bay already recorded." Ben spoke into his phone. Moments later, a swirling green vortex opened up in front of Ryder, Ben, and the rest of the Paw Patrol. "Come on, let's go! No need to take the Patroller when we can simply warp there!" Ben chuckled, walking into the portal and vanishing. Ryder chuckled and motioned for the rest of the group to follow.

"Real portals… wow!" Tuck marveled.

"I never thought I'd get to go through one!" Rocky squealed excitedly. The mixed breed and golden retriever were the first to run through the portal. "Come on!" Rocky's voice insisted, coming from the other side of the swirling vortex.

"All right, Paw Patrol! Let's roll!" Chase exclaimed, and ran into the warp. The rest of the group would follow after him, walking into the portal and would be blinded momentarily…

The incident involving Chase getting sick is shown in Rescue Force Off Duty chapters 1-6. I recommend getting it a read: it's a perfect balance of angst and fluff, in my opinion. Lots of sadness and happiness at the same time.
