Season 4 Episode 4: Sea Patrol Saves the Pier!
June 14th, 2030
It had been two days since the second merpup encounter. It had been quiet ever since then, surprisingly. Chase was surprised at how tranquil and peaceful it was today. Had the activity in their small town really died down that much one week after Adventure Bay Beach Day? Making his rounds and walking around the beach and docks, he decided to go and check in with the other Paw Patrol members for just a minute or two. Then he'd get back to being on lifeguard duty. "Wow, I can't believe it. It's a really quiet day at the beach today…" Chase mused, talking to Rocky and Marshall about the peacefulness they had been experiencing.
"It sure is. Everyone's getting ready for the Adventure Beach Art Show. I'm just trying to think cool. It's so hot out that my brain is trying to think of winter! The heart wave from the jungle might have leaked a little in here. The heat's so strong that Tracker and Everest can't bear to be outside for more than a couple of minutes!" Rocky remarked.
"Is that… a snowman on the beach?" Chase asked, studying Rocky's painting.
The mixed breed pup chuckled sheepishly. "Like I said! My brain's thinking cool thoughts. Good thing I'm not in werepuppy form right now, or that heat would beat me up!" Rocky abashedly said.
Marshall was blasting his own canvas with his water cannons, which had been filled with paint. "Heh, this is gonna be a masterpiece!" The dalmatian giggled. Rocky was pretty much finished with his own painting, so he walked over with Chase to check out their spotted brother's work. It was the kind of art that a monkey or other animal might make and have sold for thousands by a person: just random blobs and splotches of paint. "I call it 'Marshall Goes Sploosh', what do you think?" Marshall asked his surrogate siblings.
Rocky gulped as he looked at the array of random color splashes on the canvas. Ben would have the perfect words for this situation, praising Marshall and giving him a playful head noogie. However, Ben was still in Adventure City. Rocky racked his brain desperately for a compliment before settling on something simple. "Well, it's certainly colorful!" Rocky quickly said.
"Chase, are you going to make anything for the art show?" Marshall inquired.
The German Shepherd shook his head no. "Nah, I'm on lifeguard duty. And besides, I'm not much of an artist." Chase answered. "Hey, look out!" Someone yelled. Chase spotted a flyaway frisbee hurling towards two kids, and dashed towards it, leaping up and plucking it out of the air with his jaw before making an indentation of his body in the sand as he landed.
"Looks like you are an artist, Chase!" Marshall joked.
"I call it… 'Chase Goes Splat'! Yeah!" Chase snickered, going along with the joke. All three of the boy pups laughed together before Chase resumed his lifeguard duties.
"I have a feeling this is gonna be our most memorable art show yet!" Mayor Goodway announced excitedly as she stood on the pier with Chickaletta, Gasket, and Dwayne.
The Great Dane had a rainbow painting he had made himself, with tons of hearts in the sky. "I love to paint! My paws get all messy and it feels really cool! Too bad I can't do it on my motorcycle." Dwayne exclaimed as he added more to his artwork.
"Dwayne, we can't ride our motorbikes on the pier, they could seriously bust up the wood and make the pier unstable. Mayor Momway and I have told you this at least a dozen times today." Gasket reminded her brother.
The gray husky had made a picture of herself racing Julius and Julia on their bikes for the art show. "Aunt Genevieve, Aunt Genevieve! Look what we made!" Julius and Julia Goodway called out as they ran up to their aunt.
The mayor chuckled as she looked at their handiwork. "Oh, isn't this adorable! Ah, this must be a finger painting of a star. Oh, and this is one of a beautiful jewel!" Mayor Goodway complemented the work of her niece and nephew.
The children of her brother Gustavo laughed at her comments. "No, Auntie! We made snowflakes with green and blue backgrounds!" Julius explained.
Mayor Goodway embarrassedly let out a chortle and rubbed the back of her head. "Of course. Ha, silly me! Oh, I hope they don't melt in this heat!" She teased her family.
"Well, I made a picture of a pig out of dried beans, corn, and glue!" Alexander Porter proudly proclaimed. At the mention of the word 'corn', Chickaletta squawked and pecked at Alex's pig portrait, gobbling down some of the beans and corn on his canvas. He looked back at his picture and smiled. "Hey, now it looks like a car!" Alexander pointed out.
"Ooh, it does! Our widdle Chick-elangelo is so talented!" Dwayne gushed, snuggling the mayor's chicken.
"Pardonnez-moi! Great artiste coming through!" Francois yelled out as he dragged a covered sculpture across the pier.
"Francois, what on Earth is that?" The mayor asked the French sailor.
"What else? It is the first work of art created entirely from... jellyfish jam!" Francois Turbot replied.
An hour later, and it was nearly time for the art show to begin. "Only a few minutes until the show starts. Final touches, everyone!" Mayor Goodway shouted out for the contestants to hear.
"My masterpiece needs no touches. It is already incroyable." Francois scoffed.
Several seagulls began to fly towards the covered statue that Francois had prepared for the art show. "And it looks like these seagulls are pretty excited about it." Farmer Yumi commented.
"Then, I must give the people and the birdies what they want. Behold, the most beautiful jellyfish jam sculpture ever created of… ME!" Francois declared, removing the sheet that was covering his work to reveal that it was a purple gelatinous sculpture modeled in his own image.
"...Interesting. Different!" Alexander Porter mused.
All of a sudden, the fishes started to jump out of the ocean and bounce off of the jellyfish jam statue. "See? Even the fishies love my fantastique sculpture!" Francois boasted.
They then heard the barking of Wally the walrus, Horatio Turbot's beloved animal companion. He quickly jumped into the ocean, and his barks sounded like they were trying to warn them about something. Dolphins, seagulls, birds, they were all swarming around Francois's creation. The noise of scuttling reached Mr. Porter's ears. "Does anyone else hear that noise?" Alexander's grandfather commented.
Dwayne lifted his ear and nodded his head in confirmation, walking over to the edge of the pier. "Yeah, it sounds like it's coming from underneath Francois's statue…!" Dwayne thought out loud.
Gasket followed her brother to the edge of the pier with Mayor Goodway, and saw that there were several crabs chomping and cutting into the jellyfish jam covered support beam of the pier. "Oh no! The statue must have started melting from the heat, and it's attracted the crabs, who are eating the support beam!" Gasket realized in horror.
"Everyone off the pier, NOW! It's not safe!" Mayor Goodway shouted.
Several of the civilians managed to heed her call in time, but Mayor Goodway, Alexander, his grandpa, Francois, Farmer Yumi, and Farmer Al didn't manage to get off of the pier in time, and started to slip as the pier began sinking into the sea. "MAYOR MOMWAY!" Dwayne shouted in fear.
"We'd better call Ryder." Gasket sighed.
"Finished yet? The art show's almost about to start!" Rocky asked his dalmatian sibling.
Marshall gasped as he saw the pier begin to collapse. "Nope, definitely not about to start! We'd better get to the Sea Lookout!" Marshall yelped.
Chase was having Captain Turbot get a closer look of the situation with his binoculars. "What do you see, Cap'n Turbot?" Chase inquired worriedly.
"That's one precariously pitched pier! I always told Francois not to play with his food, but apparently he didn't listen!" Captain Turbot nervously said.
Chase quickly contacted Ryder, who was cleaning the windows of the Sea Patroller. "Ryder, the pier's broken, and people might fall into the water!" Chase told his owner.
"I know. Gasket explained the situation already; Fracnois's jellyfish jam sculpture started to melt, and the sea creatures couldn't help but eat the jam covered support beam. We're on it! No pier is too big, no pup is too small! Sea Patrol, to the beach tower!" Ryder declared.
Zuma, Rubble, and Skye stopped their sand castle building and ran over to the tower, regrouping with Marshall, Chase, and Rocky. The group went into the beach tower's elevator, and as it rose, the mechanical arms extended and dressed them in their Sea Patrol attire before the doors slid open and they lined up with Tracker and Everest. "Sea Patrol ready for action, Captain Ryder, sir!" Zuma and Chase both cried out.
"Thanks for hurrying, pups. One of the pier's support posts broke, and now the whole pier could fall into the water. We need to get everyone safely ashore, then fix it. For this mission, I need the following pups. Zuma, you'll be near the pier in your boat, ready to deploy a buoy to catch anyone if they fall. Chase, I need you to use your winch like a rope to help everybody safely off the pier. Tracker, your cables will be able to pull people to safety as well. Rubble, I need you to use your underwater construction rig to put in a new post; I have one loaded on the Sea Patroller. Mayor Goodway anticipated that one of the posts might need replacing this summer. Finally, Rocky will use his underwater welder to attach the post to the pier." Ryder instructed.
"Chase is on this oceanic case!" The German Shepherd roared.
"¡En el océano! Let's set sail!" Tracker cheered.
"Rubble on the aqua double!" The bulldog howled enthusiastically.
"My scuba gear keeps me nice and dry, so green means go!" Rocky chimed in.
"All right! Sea Patrol, sail to the rescue!" Ryder exclaimed, and the Sea Patroller set sail, heading towards the damaged pier.
Ryder, Chase, Tracker, Rocky, Rubble, and Zuma all deployed from the Sea Patroller, with Chase, Tracker, and Ryder riding across the sea surface before switching their vehicles into land mode and getting on the pier. "Everyone stay calm! We'll have you back on the beach in two shakes of a puppy's tail!" Chase shouted into his megaphone, reassuring the stranded people on the pier.
Ryder took out Chase's winch and attached it to one of the pier's cleats. Tracker barked out his cables and also shot them at the cleat, creating three secure lines for the people to climb to safety with.
As Julius and Julia climbed the rope, Ryder took their canvases and tossed them to Chase, who caught them with his pup pack's net. "Oh, you've saved us again, Ryder! But alas, I can't seem to find Chickaletta anywhere." Genevieve chuckled nervously.
"Uh, Mayor Momway?" Dwayne giggled, pointing to her head with his paw, nose and eyes.
The mayor then realized that Chickaletta had perched on her head when everything had gone down. "Well, good thing you didn't go far, Chickaletta!" The mayor sighed in relief.
Farmer Al, Farmer Yumi, Gasket, Dwayne, Mayor Goodway, and her niece and nephew all climbed the cables and winch to get to safety. "¡Eso es casi todos! That's almost everyone!" Tracker yelled happily.
"Francois is the only one left on the pier!" Chase announced.
Ryder slid down the pier and went over to the French sailor. "Come on, Francois, time to go! It's dangerous here!" Ryder told Horatio's cousin.
"And abandon my creation? I could never!" Francois protested, hugging the jellyfish sculpture of himself. "I know it's hard, but your safety is more important than a sculpture!" Ryder argued.
"Would you ask da Vinci to abandon the Mona Lisa, huh? I think not, monsieur!" Francois shot back.
The pier started to creak and groan again, signifying to Ryder that they were out of time to get Francois off of the pier. Zuma was ready to go with a buoy if need be, and Ryder knew that he would have to go with the flow for now. "We're almost out of time! Fine, have it your way. Please put on this life jacket and hang on tight! We'll have to fix the pier with you on it." Ryder ordered, handing the artist a life jacket in his size.
Ryder had foreseen Francois possibly being too stubborn to ditch his artwork, so he had brought the life jacket just in case. "Merci, Ryder!" Francois gratefully said.
"Rubble, Rocky, we've got a pier to repair!" Ryder commanded his pups.
Diving beneath the surface, the two submarines discovered that there was practically nothing left of the pier post. "Ryder, we see the broken post! The crabs cut it into pieces!" Rocky radioed.
"Replace it right away then! Rubble, use your front-loader to clear the debris." Ryder instructed.
Rubble took away the jellyfish covered post pieces as the Sea Patroller deployed the replacement post. The construction pup then grabbed the new wooden pole with his crane. Robo-Dog lowered the hook and lifted the damaged pier up so that Rubble and Rocky could put the post in. Rocky then clamped a metal holder around the bottom of the post and welded the metal to the stone support bottom.
A whale suddenly came out of the ocean and tried to lick the jam sculpture. "I had a feeling this was what the fish were after! They didn't want to destroy the pier, they were after your jellyfish jam!" Ryder exclaimed. The sculpture then fell into the ocean, and Francois tried to dive in after it. "BUOY!" Zuma howled, and caught the sailor with the floatation device.
The sea animals started to devour the sculpture, and Franocis sighed sadly as he saw his masterpiece gobbled down by the aquatic life. "Alas, your beauty is equaled by only one thing… your yummy taste! Au revoir, monsieur!" Francois mournfully moaned as he saw his art bitten into pieces.
The art show was moved to the walkway outside of the Beach Lookout. "The pier is sturdy, Francois is safe, and now the art show can go on!" Ryder reported to Mayor Goodway.
"Oh, Ryder, you're remarkable! Thank you, Sea Patrol, for everything!" The mayor thanked them.
"Whenever you're in trouble, just yelp for help!" Ryder chuckled.
