Season 4 Episode 7: Sea Patrol Saves A Sunken Sloop! Ahoy, Paw Patrol Black!
June 20th, 2030
Ryder woke up with a startle. Looking outside at the Beach Lookout window, he was surprised to see the pirate ship of Sid Swashbuckle and Arrby anchored at the docks. That meant the previous night's events were no dream. And he certainly felt tired as well. They had gotten only about six to seven hours of sleep, it was seven thirty in the morning and everyone had gotten back to the beach lookout at twelve thirty in the morning. Yawning as he got to his feet and stretched out, he saw Ben in a cuddle pile with all eight pups and let out a soft giggle before walking past. Then he noticed a notification on his pup pad that the beach lookout's elevator was on the basement floor, meaning someone had taken it there. Quickly, Ryder took the stairs down to the basement, and heard Sid and Arrby talking to each other. "Captain Boss Mister Sid sir, you're not going to steal from them, right?! I mean, they let us sleep in their tower, even after we tried to take the Clam of Puplantis!" Arrby's voice pointed out.
"Arrby, my faithful first mate, don't fret, don't worry! I'm not going to steal anything, I'm putting everything back where it was on the shelf after I get done looking at it! I'm simply… browsing!" Sid's voice protested.
Ryder tiptoed the rest of the way down the stairwell and saw Sid examining the shelf's contents. "You sure you aren't going to take anything, Sid?" Arrby nervously asked.
"I have you to help me keep my word. I promised you last night that I was done stealing. It's gonna be hard, but with your help, and with the Paw Patrol's help if they want to lend it, I think I can overcome my kleptomania. I got confused with my needs being my wants. No more! The only things I need, need, need are food, some drinkable water, my beloved ship the Galleon… and you, Arrby!" Sid answered.
Ryder felt a sense of pride in the knowledge that Sid truly wanted to change his thieving ways. Deciding to step out, the spiky haired teenager stepped into their field of vision and cleared his throat before speaking, and extending an olive branch of companionship. "You wouldn't happen to need, need, need some friends, right?" Ryder offered, reaching his hand out and presenting it for a potential handshake.
In response, the pirate threw his head back and let out a burst of merry laughter. "Har har har har! Ben, I would be delighted to accept your offer of friendship." Sid solemnly said, smiling as he shook hands with Ryder.
The leader of the Paw Patrol chuckled as they exchanged the handshake. "It's Ryder, not Ben." Ryder reminded the buccaneer.
Sid blushed as he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "Sorry about that, Ryder! I mix up names, and my social skills are a bit lacking. Not much talking with other people happens on the seven seas. Other than Arrby, I only really talked to shopkeepers and attempted to sell the items that I had found from the sea to potential customers." Sid admitted.
Ryder nodded his head. "We can help you out with that, too. See anything that catches your eye?" Ryder asked.
The sailor nodded as he pointed to a Rubik's Cube that was on the shelf. "Indeed, that cube strikes my fancy! I saw some children fiddling around with it when I was at a bazaar once. I never did manage to get my hands on one, though I searched for a seller for many years with Arrby." Sid mused.
"Then you can have it. Since you really want to change, I think I can give it to you. I have a few other ones scattered around the Lookout anyways." Ryder replied.
Sid's eyes lit up with delight as he gingerly took the toy into his hands. "You really mean it?! ARRRRRR! Many thanks, my friend!" Sid happily cried out, pocketing the toy and giving Ryder a hug.
Arrby let out a howl of delight as well. All of a sudden, Sid's stomach growled, causing Arrby to laugh. "Captain Boss Mister Sid Sir, it sounds like you're getting hungry!" Arrby said. "Arr, you're right, first mate! Ryder, are you getting famished as well?" Sid inquired.
Ryder nodded his head in agreement. "I'm starting to get hungry myself, and the pups might want to have something to eat too. Why don't we head upstairs and get some breakfast?" Ryder suggested.
"Fantastic, my friend! Tell you what. As thanks for letting me and Arrby stay in your Lookout, we'll cook you and your buddy Ben some breakfast! Not to brag or anything, but I make a pretty mean omelet!" Sid remarked.
Ryder, Sid, and Arrby then went up the stairs, and the pirate got to work on the stove, whipping up breakfast for the whole group. The pups all enjoyed the meal, and even Ben was impressed by the culinary creation. "I would never have taken you for a cook, Sid." Ben chuckled as he stabbed another piece of his meal with his fork and ate it.
"What can I say? Arrby and I lived off of the sea for many many years, we didn't eat much land food. You have to learn how to make the fish meals interesting, cuz if you don't do something different with the fish, they start to all get kind of the same." Sid replied.
Chase tilted his head as he looked at the devilish duo. "What are you going to do now that you're in Adventure Bay, Sid?" Chase questioned.
Sid shrugged his shoulders in response. "Arr, I'm not quite sure myself. Might talk to the mayor, see if I can't find some form of employment. I don't want me and Arrby to live off of your generosity alone. I want to earn an income, contribute." Sid thoughtfully said.
After finishing up their meal, Arrby and Sid walked out to the beach with Ryder, Chase, Marshall, Skye, Rubble, Zuma, Rocky, and Everest. Chase got in his lifeguard chair and took over beach watch duty as the other pups started to play a game of volleyball. Meanwhile, Tracker, Ben, Sid, and Ryder noticed Mayor Goodway and Farmer Yumi were on the beach already… and they were wearing diving gear? Gasket and Dwayne were laying on lounge chairs underneath a shady umbrella as well. "Hey Farmer Yumi! Hey Mayor Goodway! What are you doing?" Ryder greeted the two women, before asking the question that was on his and Ben's minds.
"Oh! Hi Ryder! We're going to go scuba diving in the reef! Al is having Alexander Porter help with the farm chores. He's unclogging our storm drain." Farmer Yumi explained.
"Hello, you two! Oh, and who's your costumed friend? He looks like a pirate! And he's got an adorable little dachshund too!" Mayor Goodway commented.
"AHOY! My name is Sid Swashbuckle! Explorer of the ocean depths, and retriever of sunken objects and treasures! Pleased to make your acquaintance!" Sid courteously announced, taking a bow and tipping his hat off to Mayor Goodway and Farmer Yumi.
The mayor let out an amused laugh. "Oh my, your friend is quite chivalrous for a pirate! …He's not going to steal from Adventure Bay, is he?" Genevieve said.
Sid shook his head no. "Absolutely not, no way, madames! I'm on the straight and narrow, and my first mate Arrby here is going to help me stay on that path! Say, I couldn't help but notice your diving gear. Are you planning to take a trip into the bay's depths?" Sid wondered. Mayor Goodway nodded her head.
"As a matter of fact, yes! We were even going to check out the legend of the old sunken sloop that belonged to Jack Scallywag!" Farmer Yumi answered.
A glint in Sid's eyes appeared when they mentioned a legendary old sloop. "Sloop? ¿Que es eso? What are you talking about?" Tracker murmured in confusion, unfamiliar with the term.
"Oh! Tracker isn't versed in sailing lingo. You see, Tracker, a sloop is a sailboat that has a single mast and usually only a single headsail and mainsail." Arrby clarified for his potcake pal.
"Ohh, I get it! ¡Entiendo ahora! But be careful, señoras, por favor… Jack Scallywag is one of the most dangerous pirates to have ever lived! My great grandpappy told me about his firstpaw encounters with that pirate. One tale he told me was that Jack Scallywag bound a guardian to one of his sunken ships to make sure that no one would ever be able to take his treasure, and the guardian wants nothing more to be free!" Tracker told them.
"Quite the intriguing tale your grandpappy told you, pup!" Sid remarked.
"Oh my, that is a scary story." Farmer Yumi gasped.
"Though Jack Scallywag is real, I think your great grandpa may have blown a few things out of proportion." Genevieve skeptically scoffed.
"Still, I'm not so sure we should be going down there by ourselves. If only there was someone who could accompany us… but Ryder and Ben are busy keeping watch over the Beach Lookout and the six pups are on standby. I'd ask Zuma, but he's now the leader of the Sea Patrol with Chase…" Farmer Yumi anxiously thought out loud.
The former pirate's arm shot up into the air and he waved it around, a grin on his face. "Arrby and I could accompany you, ladies!" Sid suddenly suggested.
The mayor arched an eyebrow. "You and your pup? Accompany us? Have the two of you even gone scuba diving before?" Goodway quizzed.
The buccaneer bobbed his head up and down several times in confirmation. "Dozens, maybe even a hundred times! Arrby and I have retrieved many sunken sloops and other forgotten treasures from the bottom of the oceans. I trained him myself, and my parents were experts in diving. They were marine biologists and archaeologists. We even have our own diving gear on my ship! Plus, if that supposed guardian of the shipwreck comes around and tries to get us, I can defend you." Sid spoke.
"It's true! Sid can scare off even the most dangerous sea animals, he's fought a great white shark and won!" Arrby earnestly revealed.
Mayor Goodway stepped backwards, clearly surprised by this. "Well then, in that case, I have no objections to you coming along with us! Grab your diving gear and let's get under the sea!" Genevieve exclaimed.
Sid gave Ben and Ryder a grin before running to his ship with Arrby. The two returned with their diving gear on, and the pirate gave the two women a salute. "Let's go! Water is perfect for a diving excursion." Sid insisted, before walking into the sea, with Arrby following close behind.
As they dove into the sea's depths, they admired the sea life that swam by them. Then, they saw the sunken sloop. "ARRR! It's the sloop! Come on, girls, let's go check it out!" Sid insisted.
As they swam up to the ship, Arrby gasped as he saw an eye in the window, and then an agonized wail came from the ship. Mayor Goodway and Farmer Yumi screamed in terror as they swam backwards. "Uhhh, Captain Boss Mister Sid Sir? What do we do?" Arrby asked nervously.
Sid's arm went to the sword he carried on his belt, prepared to unsheathe it at a moment's notice. "Arrby, stay close to me. We're investigating that noise." Sid commanded.
"But Captain Boss Mister Sid, what if it's an angry sea monster?" Arrby protested.
"I've been interacting with sea creatures since I was three years old, Arrby. I know their language. That doesn't sound angry… that sounds like a creature in dire need of help." Sid told him. Arrby and Sid swam closer to the ship, and an eye popped up in one of the windows. Another moan was heard, and Arrby realized that Sid was right. That sounded like something in pain, someone lonely! Sid recognized the eye. "Yarrgh, I think that might be a sea slug trapped inside that sloop!" Sid remarked.
"Stuck!? Oh no! We gotta help it!" Arrby exclaimed.
"Right you are, first mate! And I know just who to call!" Sid chuckled. Pulling out his waterproof phone, he called Ryder.
Ben, Ryder, and the pups were playing volleyball when the call came through. "Sid? Arrby? What's going on?" Ryder asked.
"Arr, Ryder, we've discovered the sunken sloop! But there's a sea slug that's trapped inside of it! It sounds like it might be in pain, it certainly needs help! Will you lend us some assistance?" Sid told him.
"Sure thing, Sid! No job is too big, no pup is too small!" Ryder exclaimed, and began to head to the Beach Lookout before radioing the others.
"Come on, pups, to the Beach Tower! We have a rescue to do!" Ben cried out.
"Ryder and Ben need us!" The eight canines yelped excitedly as they followed their owner in a single file line to the elevator.
As they stopped their volleyball game, Marshall accidentally kicked the volleyball and it crashed into the other seven pups, and even hit Ben in the leg, causing the human to topple over with the other pups. Ben chuckled as he rolled over and looked at the dalmatian, this was his first bout of clumsiness in a while. The dalmatian had an apologetic look on his face, but Ben smiled and nodded his head, gesturing with his hands to tell Marshall it was okay. "Um… I guess I got a strike! Maybe I should take up pup bowling!" Marshall chuckled.
This earned a burst of laughter from all the other pups. The pups all leapt off of Ben and helped him get to his feet before the elevator started to ascend, and the pups were dressed in their Sea Patrol gear before they entered the control room and lined up for Ryder. "Sea Patrol ready for action, Captain Ryder, sir!" Zuma and Chase both declared.
"Thanks for putting a pause on your volleyball game, everyone! Sid and Arrby were scuba diving with Mayor Goodway and Farmer Yumi when they heard some sort of strange noise coming from the shipwreck's remains at the bottom of the bay. Our pirate pals went to go investigate those strange sounds, and they found that the slug is trapped in the sunken sloop! They need our help to save it." Ryder explained.
"¡Dios mío! That sounds like the legend I was telling you all about earlier, where Jack Scallywag bound a guardian to his sunken ship to protect it! Maybe that sea slug is the guardian!" Tracker thoughtfully said.
Ben stroked his chin as he took that idea into consideration. "It's certainly possible, but guardian or not, that sea slug needs our help. We need to get it out of there, it could starve if it doesn't get out of that shipwreck. And once the slug is freed, we can retrieve the treasure and bring the sloop to the surface!" Ben mused.
"Exactly! So for this mission I'll need the following pups… Zuma, I need you to take your submarine down to the sloop and see if you can find any way inside. You'll also use your submarine's grabbers to possibly break pieces of the ship off. Rocky and Rubble, your welding torch, tool arms, and construction gear will help us break apart the sloop and create an exit for that sea slug. Marshall, you'll be checking the sea slug's injuries with your medical scanner. Chase, your winch will help us tow the shipwreck to the surface." Ryder instructed.
"Everest, Tracker, and Skye, the three of you will stay here at the beach and go on lifeguard duty." Ben announced.
"Let's dive in!" Zuma cheered.
"Chase is on this ocean case!" The German Shepherd howled.
"Green means go!" Rocky shouted enthusiastically.
"Rubble on the aqua double!" Rubble exclaimed.
"I'm fired up for a deep, deep rescue!" Marshall yipped.
"Got it, Ryder!" Skye answered.
"We'll take care of the beach goers while you help Sid and Arrby with the sea slug!" Everest assured them.
"¡No te preocupes por eso!" Tracker added.
The potcake, cockapoo, and husky all ran out of the Sea Lookout as Ryder prepared to launch the ship from the tower. "All right! Sea Patrol, sail to the rescue!" Ryder yelled out as the Sea Patroller deployed.
The group sailed out to the ocean, and got near the point where the sunken sloop was reported to be. Ryder had Chase, Zuma, Rubble, and Rocky deploy with their vehicles, while Marshall only was in his scuba gear. Zuma, Rubble, and Rocky dove beneath the water as Ryder and Ben went into the Sub Patroller. As they approached the sunken sloop, Sid and Arrby waved them hello before contacting them over their radio communications. "Arrr! You made it, Paw Patrol! Thank you so much! This sea slug here seems mighty upset!" Sid told them.
"Marshall, think you can try to assess the sea slug's condition with your medical scanner?" Ben asked.
The dalmatian nodded his head in response. "Sure thing Ben!" Marshall answered, before exiting the Sub Patroller and swimming up to the sunken sloop. Activating his medical scanner, he scanned the massive sea slug and tried to determine what kind of physical health it was in. "It seems to be okay, just super old and it's somewhat malnourished." Marshall commented. Sid peered at the scanner and then gasped.
"No way. That sea slug is over sixty years old! They usually don't last past thirty! This one has lived twice as long as the usual ones…" Sid exclaimed.
Ben scratched his chin at this revelation. And yet Tracker's great grandfather had encountered Jack Scallywag in person… Exchanging a glance with Ryder, the two teenage boys silently agreed that they would have to ask Tracker about his great gramps and more about his stories another time. "Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, start tearing openings in the shipwreck. Be careful not to hurt the sea slug." Ryder ordered.
The three pups nodded and got to work stripping boards from the shipwreck to create a way for the sea slug to escape. "The treasure will get-!" Arrby sadly said. Sid hugged his dachshund tightly to comfort him.
"Arrgh, you're right. The treasure might be damaged. But I think both of us can agree that helping that sea slug and saving its life is more important than keeping the treasure as intact as possible." Sid solemnly replied. The sea slug wormed its way out of the ship after Rubble, Rocky, and Zuma created a large enough hole for it to go through. Turning around and giving them a smile, the sea slug blinked and let out a croak before swimming away. It was getting late. "Let's retrieve that sunken sloop, and tomorrow we can go through the remnants of what's left inside." The pirate suggested.
Marshall returned to the Sub Patroller as Chase used his winch from the surface and hooked it to the mast of the ship, with Sid and Arrby going to their own ship and turning it into a submarine to help lift the shipwreck. It took the combined efforts of Chase's police waterboat, Zuma's submarine, Rocky's salvage sub, Rubble's construction submersible, and the Sub Patroller to lift the sloop and bring it back to the surface.
At the Beach Lookout, Ryder made an announcement. "Arrby, for showing great ocean knowledge, courage and willingness to help, as well as sacrificing part of the treasure to save that sea slug, I'm naming you a member of the Paw Patrol." Ryder announced. Everyone howled and applauded Sid and Arrby as Ryder wrapped a black pup tag with a skull and crossbones and a golden exterior around Arrby's neck. "Say ahoy to Paw Patrol Black!" Ryder yelled happily.
Yesterday, I turned 22! It was kind of a crappy birthday, but all of the presents I got from my friends on Discord made it better. I have met so many wonderful people thanks to the show PAW Patrol!
If any of you want to make me a birthday present, then I would be very happy to receive it! Any form of fanart for Rescue Force would count.
Stay tuned too, because Sea Patrol is beginning to wrap up!
