Chapter Seven
First Time Patrol
A couple of days passed and since everyone had returned to their normal routines after Kemeko's birthday, Leonardo decided that it was the time for Kemeko to join him on topside patrol.
He decided to give it a bit more time before he spoke to Kemeko the truth about her parents and origins, and he wanted to give his adopted daughter a taste of patrolling the city rather than just running topside with him or the rest of the family when they weren't looking for trouble.
He knew how excited Pandora had been on her first time topside, so much so she was like a child at Christmas, too hyper to go to sleep as she was so excited about her first day topside.
The blue masked turtle approached Kemeko's room where he heard voices within, and he recognised them as his daughter and Pandora.
"I'm so excited you're joining us at last Kemeko!" Pandora squealed from inside the room "I'm so ready to kick some bad guy's asses with you!"
"Me too Pandora." He heard his adopted daughter say, "After all the stories you, Sonia and the twins told me, I too have been so eager!"
"Sweet!" Pandora cheered.
Leonardo could see the door was slightly ajar and he walked over to see the two girls standing before Kemeko's full length mirror and admiring her appearance.
Kemeko was wearing tight black leggings and black shoes, she also wore a blue dress with purple hemming and split at the sides almost like a large loin cloth like Monalisa, the sleeves went down to just above her elbows and she also wore black fingerless gloves.
Strapped around her waist was her mother's tanto and on her back was her bladed boomerang.
Leonardo sighed as he looked at her and part of him felt proud, but the other part, rather sad, as he saw so much of Karai in her.
Lifting his paw to the door, he knocked, and the two girls stopped talking and turned to it.
"Come in!" Kemeko called and Leonardo walked in.
"Hey girls!" he said then he looked at Pandora who was all decked out in her black trousers with orange and red stripes with combat boots, her blood red tank top and black leather biker waist coat and metal claws on her fingers as well as Mr Swinger wrapped around her body.
"Been helping Kemeko look like a Shadow Warrior Geisha?" he asked.
"Sure have Uncle Leo!" Pandora winked and clicked her tongue "She and I are gonna have a fun time taking down baddies tonight!"
"Glad to hear it." Leonardo said but then he looked serious "But no showing off or getting carried away alright?" he said.
Pandora's excitement and cockiness soon faded, and she looked seriously back at her uncle.
"Have no fear Uncle." She said, "You know how protective I am of my cousin, Honoured sister!"
She patted Kemeko's shoulder as she spoke, and she remembered the two incidents she had shown how protective she was.
There was the time when she was thirteen and Vulstrun, the golden dragon and evil counterpart of her Uncle Tyroth had attacked and threatened to kill her cousins if she didn't fight him.
The other incident was when she and Kemeko had broken into the Foot Headquarters to rescue their family, she was fourteen and Kemeko was eleven and both had no experience fighting the Ninja and the Venomous Five.
Both times, Pandora had shown that as well as being reckless and impulsive, she was a strong and protective cousin, honoured sister to Kemeko and Leonardo knew he could count on his niece.
"I know kiddo." He said, "And I'm grateful for that, and your goal tonight is to make sure Kemeko is safe."
"Scouts honour Uncle Leo!" Pandora said fervently.
"Go and find your parents and the others, I'll join you shortly, okay?" Leonardo said and Pandora nodded and left the bedroom.
As the hybrid left, Leonardo turned to Kemeko and looked into the mirror with her.
"So, my Lotus." He said, "Your first night on topside patrol."
Kemeko smiled yet said nothing.
"Are you nervous?" Leonardo asked.
"A little." Kemeko replied "But I feel more prepared than I thought I would be."
"Really?" Leonardo asked picking up a comb and gently brushing Kemeko's silky black hair.
"Yes." Kemeko replied "When I followed Pandora into the Foot Headquarters to save you, I saw first-hand the dangers you face, and even though I did little to fight, I was prepared to know what I would one day come up close with as a ninja when my time came."
Leonardo smiled again proudly at Kemeko "You truly are wise beyond your years Lotus." He smiled as he continued to comb her hair and then he picked up a blue lotus flower hair pin which he placed in her hair delicately.
He took one last look at Kemeko in the mirror, and he felt a bittersweet feeling, seeing that she was no longer the small helpless child in his arms that he held close and vowed to protect after Karai's death.
He now saw a young teenager, not a girl, yet not a woman, but almost a mirror image of Karai, raised to be a Ninja, a Shadow Warrior and ready to fight evil, a sidekick and partner to him in battle.
"So, you ready now?" he asked putting down the comb and holding her shoulders, giving them a slight squeeze.
Kemeko took a deep breath then looked at her father through the mirror.
"Yes, I'm ready now!" she said.
Leonardo smiled proudly.
"Then let's go and meet the others." He spoke and Kemeko agreed.
When the turtle and Asian girl arrived in the main lair, Pandora was hopping about from one foot to the other in excitement whilst Raphael was trying to keep her calm.
Monalisa was talking to Donatello making sure he had all the equipment as well as medical supplies in his bag and Michelangelo was testing his nun-chucks.
Splinter was standing nearby waiting for Leonardo and Kemeko to arrive and as soon as he saw them, he smiled.
"My son, my granddaughter." He said, "Now all the family are going together on patrol, and I shall be alone in the lair."
Kemeko gave a guilty smile and bowed to her grandfather.
"I'm sorry I had to grow up fast grandfather." She spoke.
Splinter chuckled and stroked her cheek.
"There is nothing to apologise for my child." He said, "Since the day you were born, I have always believed that you too would follow in the footsteps of your family, I have been very honoured to teach you and Pandora the skills I have taught your father, Uncles and Aunt and now you are about to take on the world with those learnt skills."
"And for that I thank you!" Kemeko said with a bow and Splinter bowed back.
"Can we go already?" Pandora muttered under her breath to which Raphael prodded her with the hilt of his sai.
"Patience Kid!" he hissed though internally he was asking himself 'Seriously man? You can see the kid gets it from you!'
He also caught Michelangelo's cheeky glint in his eye as he had witnessed that and flashed him a look of 'Don't even think about it!'
After five minutes, the group said their goodbyes to Splinter who wished them all luck and prayed they would stay safe and gave his best of luck and prayers to Kemeko, this being her first time patrolling.
"Hamato Yoshi." He prayed "Tan Shen, Ancient One, please watch over my children and granddaughters." He then whispered "Karai, Chaplin, I'm sure you are very proud of your daughter, and how she has taken her first step as a Ninja in training, and she will learn the truth about you soon enough."
He opened his eyes then decided to go and make some tea before watching his soaps, taking advantage of the peace and quiet before his children returned.
Meanwhile topside, the Hamato Clan gathered on one of the rooftops to discuss what ground they would cover.
Leonardo looked at everyone and decided that He, Raphael, Pandora and Kemeko cover the Northeast whilst Monalisa, Michelangelo and Donatello cover the Southwest.
"I got a few tip offs from Casey about certain areas where there is Purple Dragon Activity." Leonardo explained "But we still need to keep on the alert for any Foot Soldiers, or the Venomous Five."
"We understand Leonardo." Monalisa said with a nod and the others agreed.
"What if we do run into the Foot or the V5?" Pandora asked and Kemeko looked slightly nervous.
"If that is the case, Pandora." Raphael said firmly, "You listen to me or Uncle Leo and do as you're told, and one of those orders is to keep Kemeko safe!"
"Yes dad!" Pandora replied, "I promised Uncle Leonardo back at the lair."
Leonardo nodded at Raphael confirming Pandora's words.
Monalisa walked up to Raphael and gave him a hug and a kiss and did the same to Pandora, even though the teenager was a little embarrassed she still appreciated the affection given they were about to embark on a dangerous mission.
"Stay safe both of you." Monalisa said "All of you."
"We will!" Raphael promised, kissing his mate then turning to Leonardo.
"Okay guys! Let's move!"
And before long, the mutants leapt off in their respected directions to begin patrol.
As Pandora and Kemeko followed their fathers, Pandora whooped and cheered as they leapt across rooftops.
"Whoo man! This is awesome!" the hybrid cheered "I've been dreaming of the day you and I would leap the rooftops together on patrol and not just running for fun!"
"It is rather exciting!" Kemeko agreed as she looked at her cousin who gave a cocky smirk.
"When we see some action, you ready to get stuck in?" she asked "Sidekick?"
Kemeko frowned playfully.
"Oh, I'm ready!" she laughed "Just don't get cocky!"
"You heard her Geisha!" Raphael called over his shoulder at his daughter who put out her tongue making Kemeko chuckle.
As the two turtles and their daughters leapt across the buildings, they were unaware they were being watched by a pair of poisonous green eyes from a few buildings away.
A loud hissing was heard as well as an evil chuckle.
"Well, what have we here? The second daughter is joining the turtles on their patrols hmm?"
Stepping out from the shadows, the black scaled deadly Black Mamba of the Venomous Five watched the foursome jump the gaps then she hit a communicator on her ear.
"Komodo! Come in! I have a visual!"
"A Visual on what Mamba?" Komodo Dragon's growling voice was heard via her earpiece.
"Two of the turtles, Leonardo and Raphael, the spawn Pandora and believe it or not, the daughter of Karai!"
"Kemeko!?" Komodo Dragon cried on the other side "Impossible!"
"I tell no lie boss!" Black Mamba insisted "I am looking right at her! And she's a spitting image of her mother!"
"You mean to tell me that Kemeko is in the field!?" Komodo Dragon demanded "Well, the Shredder will love to hear this!"
"What should I do Komodo?" Black Mamba asked.
"Do nothing for now!" Komodo Dragon ordered "Just follow them! And don't let them out of your sight!"
"Very well!" Black Mamba agreed and she started to follow the two turtles and their daughters, taking great care to keep hidden and out of detection in case their ninja skills and hearing picked her up.
So Kemeko has taken part on her first patrol topside, lets hope the best for her!
Yet Black Mamba has spotted Leonardo and Raphael with Pandora and Kemeko and is following them.
What will happen next? Well, we'll just have to wait and see!
