The Book of Destiny Part 2

In the dream world, Carol remained together with her father. They walked around.

"Tell me what is wrong my dear?" he asked.

"I performed a dark spell. I've hated dark magic for years,"

"Then why did you do it?"

"Because I had to. I had to save Raylan and a dragon from Soren, Claudia and the mages who tried to kidnap me. It was the only option I had. But I never ever want to do that again. I can't believe I nearly accepted the offer of that…dark version of me,"

"You are not her," Harrow consoled.

"I am so overwhelmed with everything. I have so much responsibility. And I don't even know how to tell Ez and Willow about…you know,"

"They will look to you. Just like they always have,"

Before Carol could say a respond, they felt something moving underneath them. They realised they were standing on a ship.

"Ahoy there lassie!" saluted Captain Villads swinging from a rope.

"Captain?" breathed Carol.

"You know this guy?" asked Harrow.

"He gave us a lift in his ship,"

"And this be your father here," said the captain. "Your majesty," he bowed.

"It's nice to meet you, captain," Harrow awkwardly saluted.

"Feel the wind in your hair!" he cheered, steering the wheel, and making them nearly fall off their feet. They sailed across the water, Berto flying high above them.

Willow finally stopped running through the forest. She came to a river. She held her face over the water and she cried, sobbing loudly. Just then, she felt a large shadow towering over her. She looked up and saw it was the red dragon that had saved her and her family. With tear-stricken eyes, she looked up at it. The dragon's eyes were kind and gentle. "Hello," she said in a low voice.

Are you all right? The dragon lowered her head down, purring.

Willow hugged her face, crying. The dragon purred comforting her.

Just then Ezran appeared at the scene, grief-stricken too. He fell to his knees and seeing the dragon's pitiful eyes plastered on him as well, rushed over to hug her too. They grieved for their dear daddy.

It'll be okay. The dragon said, comforting them both.

"It won't be okay," said Ezran, sobbing. He looked at Willow. "We didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. First, we lose Mum. And now Dad. I can't be king, Willow. I'm not ready,"

"You'll have me. And Carol. And Bait and Felix,"

"But I need more time. I can't do this," said Ezran.

"I'm glad I didn't see it," said Willow. "I wish Carol had told us,"

"She was only trying to protect us from the pain. It's what we've done for her too," said Ezran, reminding her of how they hadn't yet told her about Caldor. "If Gren and Corvus are free, does that mean Caldor's free too?"

"I hope so. I think we can still trust him. Maybe he can help us. I hope Carol will be okay. I can't bear to lose her too,"

"Me neither," Ezran scooted over and hugged her tightly. "But she's going to be all right. She has to be,"

Let me give you a ride. The female dragon offered crouching down on his front and hind legs. Perhaps that would make you both feel better.

"Thanks," said Ezran. "Maybe a flight is what we need,"

"That would be nice," agreed Willow. "Then let's go back to Carol. I just hope she'll be okay,"

They mounted the dragon and with a gentle flap of her wings, the red-winged reptile flapped its wings and carried them high into the air.

Carol remained feverish as ever in her sleep. Corvus and Raylan finished the concoction with the herbs over a small fire. As Raylan held her head up, Corvus gently poured it down her throat.

"I hope this works," prayed Raylan.

Corvus looked outwards, trying to search for any sign of Gren or the two children. "They should have been back by now,"

"I'm sure they're safe,"

"You don't know for sure. The mages are still out there," Corvus pulled out his hook. "I'm going to look for them. Take care of her," he said the last bit a little menacingly.

"I won't let anything happen to her," Raylan promised. The tracker dashed off into the forest to track them down.

Caldor with Skyros had managed to find the trail to the rest of the mages through the forest. He became to a cliff top; he looked across a valley of trees through a telescope and saw all his brothers except Castor. His heart sank slightly seeing Delmar so bruised like that. Nevertheless, he knew that he and the others had to bring to justice. He needed a way to try and find trap them. But how?

The red dragon carried Willow and Ezran over the valley. It was so beautiful from up above. Willow felt a little scared but Ezran held onto her gently. Their dragon friend would not drop them, nor would she harm them. She would keep them safe.

"It's so beautiful from up here," said Willow. She felt the feeling of being in the air healing her heart.

"Sometimes I can almost feel Dad is here beside us," said Ezran, looking out into the distance. "He always used to say that when we die our spirits are set free, to roam free like birds," he saw some birds.

Willow was silent for a second. "I hope you're right. And that one day we'll be roaming free with him,"

The dragon purred sympathetically, for them, comforting them over their loss.

"You know we need to give you a name," said Ezran.

I'd love that. Said the dragon. I lost my parents as a hatchling and I don't think I got given a name.

"She said she lost her parents,"

"That's so sad," said Willow, patting her hide, making her purr affectionally like a cat. "How about Pyrrah?"

I'd love that. Pyrrah loved her new name.

"It's perfect," said Ezran. "Thank you for saving us Pyrrah,"

Thank you both for freeing me. I've never met any kind of human like you and your sister before. Please tell me where is the rest of your party.

"They're…okay," said Ezran, a little uncertainly. He feared for Carol. So did Willow. If they lost her, it would be like losing their mother all over again. This time they would be old enough to truly know the feeling of losing a mother, the same way she did.

Corvus panted as he ran through the forest, searching breathlessly for Gren and the kids. Just then he heard leaves shuffling. "Come out. Whoever you are,"

"It's just me," Gren stepped out into the clearing.

"Phew," Corvus breathed out easily. "I thought you were one of the mages. Wait where are the kids?"

Gren sighed, hanging his head down. "I lost them,"

"What do you mean you lost them?"

"They were too fast for me. And I couldn't catch up with them. And then I saw the red dragon, the one that appeared in Caldor's vision of his…"

"W...w…wait. A dragon?"

"Yeah. That's what I just said. But we can't know for sure,"

"Come on. We've got to find the children before they get themselves into trouble. The mages are still out there. I just hope Caldor has found them,"

Claudia paced around the town furiously. She had been thrown out of the hospital after going berserk and trying to find something to fix Soren in his paralysed condition but nothing. Her pondering lead to some desert streets away from the individuals who were fixing up roofs, dusting patios and rebuilding the main tower.

"Can I help you?" said a voice.

She jumped. "Who's there?"

"It's just me," Castor appeared from the shadows.

"You!" Claudia exploded. "What do you want?"

"To help you,"

"You said that but you lied to me,"

"Technically I didn't. I just hid the truth from you. I did want that Moonshadow elf. But I also wanted your friend. I was afraid you wouldn't listen to reason. I had every intention of telling you the truth,"

"Why do you want Caroline?"

"Because she is dangerous,"

Claudia scoffed. "Yeah right,"

"Let me tell you something," Castor leaned against the side. "Did you know that your friend nearly died once?"

Claudia said simply, "No," whilst still keeping her glower fixed on Castor.

"Well, you see she had run away from the safety of her kingdom and nearly died out in the bitter cold, but a star unicorn descended from the heavens and healed her with its horn,"

"So, what reason do you have to capture her?"

As King Harrow searched for his daughter, Castor hid in the shadows of the trees following the king. Moments passed and from his hiding spot, he saw the king embracing his daughter as he found her and then when he carried her away back home, he saw the unicorn in the distance flying into the heavens.

"I saw the two together one day when the king was out looking for her. And then when the king found her, I watched the creature fly away,"

"That's a great story but a wrong answer," Claudia crossed her arms.

"Star magic is the most mysterious of all magic you see. And because the star creature passed it into her, it could possibly make her a danger. Not just to herself. But everyone. No human has even been diseased with magic like that and it could very well kill her,"

"But how could it kill her when it saved her from dying?"

"Because she's a human. And magic only works effectively on creatures born with a primal source,"

"Then why won't you just explain to her?"

"Because her elf friend has made her think that we are bad people. That we are the sole enemies of not just Xadia but humanity as well. You know how deceptive Moonshadow elves are like my treacherous moon mage brother,"

"And why should I believe anything you say?"

"You don't. I don't deserve the benefit of the doubt," Castor tossed a small sack to Claudia who caught it abruptly. "For your brother. Inside lies the remains of a recently dead creature, use it on your brother and he will walk again,"

"No. I will not endanger my brother like this," Claudia tossed it back to her.

"You are a dark mage are you not? You know this is what you need to ensure he can walk again,"

"I still don't trust you,"

"You shouldn't," he tossed it to the floor in front of her. "But unless you plan on having your brother suffer with no walking for the rest of his life, this is your only chance. And take this," he tossed her an amethyst-embedded amulet. "Rub it and I will come to you in your time of greatest need,"

He disappeared into the shadows. Claudia tried to catch up to him but he had vanished without a trace. She picked up the sack again and looked inside. What he said was true. She looked at the amulet and saw her reflection on the purple surface. Should she use this to help Soren?

Carol was fidgeting in her sleep. Raylan rubbed a cloth over her head. "You'll get through this,"

Zym purred, worrying for her. So did Felix. Felix looked out, longing for Willow and Ezran. He hoped they were okay out there. He lay down near his person's head and curled up. Zym lay down next to him and unfolded a wing over him like a blanket.

Thank you. Purred the fox, thanking him.

You've been taking care of me so let me take care of you.

On the dragon, Willow was lying backwards against Ezran. He was beginning to doze off too. "We should probably head back to Carol now," he sniffed, wiping his nose.

Willow couldn't hear him. She was asleep. Just then she saw something shocking. She screamed. She slipped. She fell.

"Willow!" Ezran screamed, watching her plummet hundreds of feet below.

Hang on! Roared Pyrrah. Ezran could do nothing but cling on tight as the red dragon dived down to catch a falling Willow. They dived down towards the river. Only 500 feet away. Then 250. Then 100. Then 50. Pyrrah caught Willow in her paws but was too late to open her wings, grabbed Ezran off her pack, hugged the children close to her, enclosed her wings around them and splash!

Carol and Harrow struggled to hang on tight to the ship.

"Just focus on the wind!" shouted Captain Villads. "Imagine it as your wings!"

His words inspired Carol. She stood up. "Carol! What are you doing?" cried out her father. She stood up, stood tall on the deck, holding her arms out imagining she was the sail of a ship or a giant bird. She could feel the wind in her air, flowing under her arms as if they were winds. "This is just like flying!"

Suddenly there was a loud thud. The boat had crushed against some very large rocks. Harrow was flung off the boat over the rial.

"Dad!" Carol cried. She dived into the dark water, trying to swim towards him but the currents were carrying him far away. Harrow struggled to cling onto a barrel but he was slipping off. "Just hold on Dad! I'm coming!" she cried. She couldn't lose him. Not again. "Almost there! Almost there!"

Suddenly a giant wave towered over them both and before Carol could react, the wave swallowed her and her father under the dark surface. She looked away. He was sinking, his eyes closed. She tried to swim down to save him but as she did, the oxygen pulled away from her lungs. Her eyes closed tight and she felt herself being pulled into the darkness.

Carol started hyperventilating. Zym and Felix woke up. OH no. Zym felt pain from her. He couldn't bear it.

Felix saw that Raylan was asleep, having dozed. Wake up Raylan. He purred. He licked. But the elf wouldn't lick. He realised there was only one way to wake him up. He bit his arm.

"Ow!" Raylan screamed, clutching her arm. "What's the big idea?!" he screamed at the fox who shrivelled back but when he saw the state Caroline was in, he realised why he was woken up. "Carol? Carol!" he tried to calm her down the body of the sick girl kept vibrating as she breathed uncontrollably. "Carol!"
