Alola, everyone! We're back to transition ourselves into the Ula'ula Arc of this story! I really went as all-out as I could've in the last chapter, so I'm looking forward to seeing how you'll all react to this next one.

So let's get right into it! Welcome back to "The Challenge of a Lifetime"!

POKÉMON SUN & MOON

THE CHALLENGE OF A LIFETIME

"Wow, Erika!" Pyrrha exclaimed with sparkling eyes, "Primarina looks so pretty!" she pointed out excitedly as the Soloist Pokémon was being introduced to her teammates in the conservation area of Aether Paradise.

"Pree…" she yipped sheepishly in embarrassment, blushing a little. Lycanroc, Fomantis, Drifblim, Magby and Sandygast were astonished by her evolved appearance. The former of the group was especially taken aback. She looked so beautiful in his eyes.

"Blimmm?" Drifblim teased, nudging the Wolf Pokémon with one of his arms as a curious look was in his eyes.

"R-Rahk!" Lycanroc stuttered back angrily in claim, shoving him off while gnashing his teeth together. The Blimp Pokémon giggled cheekily to his comrade's embarrassment, while Primarina looked on in confusion.

"Looks like your team's really coming together," Paige commented with crossed arms.

"Yeah!" Pyrrha agreed, "No doubt Ula'ula better watch out when you roll on in!" she mentioned cheekily.

"I hope so…" Erika admitted in response, "We didn't win the tournament, but we sure came close…" she recalled, knowing that the final battle between her and her brother had gone down to a clash between Z-Moves.

"By the way, where's your Oricorio?" Paige asked curiously, catching the Ketchum girl's attention.

"Oh, I left her with Professor Kukui so I could get Sandygast here trained up," she told her in response, crouching down to the Sand Heap Pokémon's eye level, "I'd say it was way worth it in the end!" she added with a giggle.

"Gasuu!" he agreed as he nodded. Meanwhile, Fomantis looked around at her five teammates. Whether or not they had evolved, they were significantly larger than she was. Even Magby was taller than her.

"Bee?" the Live Coal Pokémon uttered upon noticing the glare he was receiving from Fomantis.

"Mahn tee…" she grumbled in frustration as she waddled away with envy in her eyes. Elsewhere in the sanctuary, Calvin held onto the incubator holding his new Pokémon egg as he took a deep breath through his nose.

"Huh…" he exhaled contently.

"Man, that was one heck of a battle today, cuz!" Hau exclaimed, catching his attention as he looked to see his cousin approach alongside Trent.

"Thanks, Hau," he replied in gratitude, "I can still hardly believe it…" he confessed sheepishly.

"Well, take your time to take it in," Trent insisted, "Not every day you win a tournament like back on Melemele," he pointed out with a grin.

"Oh, yeah…" Calvin recalled, having almost completely forgotten about the battles he had gone through on Melemele in order to get his amulet for the island challenge, "Can't believe how long it's really been…" he noted as he glanced upwards.

"Well, we should get ourselves some grub before we head out tomorrow!" Hau insisted, putting his arms around his rivals' shoulders to pull them in close as they yelped, "Come on!" he beckoned, skipping off.

"Huh…" Trent sighed out, "Well, I'll see you in the cafeteria I guess…" he muttered as he trotted after Hau.

"I'll be there soon!" Calvin promised with a smile.

"It seems like you're enjoying you're evening, Calvin," a familiar voice chimed in, catching his attention as he turned around to see Lusamine walking up to him.

"Oh, Miss Lusamine," he said in surprise.

"That egg was actually found in our own sanctuary," the Aether Foundation president told him upon approaching, "I wasn't sure whether or not to leave it in our care," she continued, "so I was happy to have it be the prize for the best trainer who won the competition," she explained.

"Well, I'm glad we won it," Calvin replied, "Although, it would've been in good hands with Erika, too," he pointed out. To his surprise, he saw a rather disappointed expression on Lusamine's face.

"Hmm…" she hummed out, "I wouldn't be so sure about that," she admitted while folding her arms over her chest.

"Huh?" Calvin uttered in confusion.

"Anyways," the Aether Foundation president began, changing the subject, "I believe there'll be a ship ready for you and your friends to head off to Ula'ula Island sometime tomorrow," she told him, "If we meet again, I hope that your egg has become a strong Pokémon for you and your team," she implored.

"Oh, th-thank you…" the Ketchum boy stammered in response, "I promise that this little one'll be really strong!" he declared firmly. Giggling, Lusamine waved goodbye before walking off. Moments later, she was heading down the hallway until a certain figure ran up behind her.

"Madam President!" Faba exclaimed, causing her to stop as she looked back to see him there, "We've made an astonishing discovery!" he told her with an excited look in his eyes. His superior blinked in surprise before pulling off a grin. Later, the two of them were within one of the laboratories in the deeper part of the artificial island. They stood alongside a few of the scientists, looking at one of the blinking monitors.

"An Ultra Wormhole… is opening here?!" she inquired after listening to the explanation from her subordinates.

"Yes," one of the scientists answered, "We've yet to pinpoint the exact location, but we'll be sure to find it shortly," he assured to her.

"And once we do, we'll capture whatever beast comes out with this," Faba declared as he held up the Beast Ball in his right hand. All of a sudden, an alarm blared loudly as red lights flashed upon the screen.

"Where is it now?!" Lusamine exclaimed with a desperate look in her eyes.

"The signal's the strongest it's been…" the other scientist noted as he looked at the readings upon the monitor, "It's… inside the conservation area!" he noted out of shock.

"What?!" Faba yelped in disbelief, getting a closer look. The four of them looked to see the security footage of the conversation area, with one view showing them a bright light distorting the space above some of the trees as a crack opened. Slowly, Lusamine's expression turned into a grin.

'I'll finally be able to meet one…' she realized, trembling with excitement, 'A beautiful Ultra Beast…' she noted inwardly.

OPENING

Insert "Everlasting Shine" by TOMORROW X TOGETHER

The sun rises over the Alolan ocean as we see various Pokémon swimming about, all around Aether Paradise in the background.

We see Calvin standing over a cliff together with all of his current six Pokémon: Torracat, Gumshoos, Trumbeak, Araquanid, Marowak, and Steenee, all smiling at the rising sun.

Cut to a beach, where standing there is Erika, also having six of her Pokémon out.

She and her Pokémon: Brionne, Lycanroc, Oricorio, Fomantis, Drifblim, and Magby, are also smiling towards the rising sun.

Camera next cuts to a rocky shore, showing Hau, and he too is joined by his six Pokémon: Dartrix, Pikachu, Noibat, Tauros, Eevee and Crabrawler, as they enjoy the sunrise.

Finally, we cut to a side view of Akala Island, before the screen was divided three ways, each show close-ups of Hau, Calvin and Erika's determined faces, colored green, red and blue respectively. The story's logo appears.

Ash and Mirajane share a sweet kiss as they watch their youngest kids and nephew training together on the Melemele Beach, along with the Kanto Champion's Pikachu, Lycanroc and Erika's Sandygast. The Ground/Ghost type is nervously peeking from behind the adults' legs to see the fierce training session below.

Calvin and Erika share glances with each other, reflecting on how far they've both come since they started the Island Challenge. They smile at each other before being brought into a hug by Hau.

Meanwhile, Lillie is walking on a dirt road. In her arms is her duffel bag, with Nebby poking its head out from it. She gives it a soft smile before clutching the duffel bag strap tightly with worry in her eyes.

Unknown to her, she's being closely watched by Gladion, who is seated on the back of Null with his Golbat and Zorua also watching on.

The scene cuts to the Lusamine, joined by Wicke, Faba, Professor Burnet, and several Aether Foundation employees outside of the former's mansion on Aether Paradise. Lusamine looks at a framed picture in her office before she sees a blue light shine overhead. It turns out to be an Ultra Wormhole, which makes her grin ominously.

Cuts to Team Skull, with Plumeria standing in front of them alongside her Crobat, Mareanie, and Salandit, with the latter of the trio crawling onto her trainer's shoulder. They both smirk deviously, while a certain pair of figures loom in the background within the shadows.

The Ketchum twins and their cousin take ready stances, each with a Poké Ball in hand before they toss them towards the camera, opening to release bursts of light.

Paige issues a command to her Medicham, with the Fighting/Psychic type dashing forward, coating her fist in blue energy and cocking it back before trying to punch Calvin's Steenee, who parries the attack with a Double Slap.

Trent's Greninja forms a Water Shuriken in his hands, and flings it at Gladion's Null, who slices it in half with Crush Claw before retaliating with X-Scissor, which is blocked by Erika's Lycanroc as he retaliates with Counter.

Hau's Eevee uses Swift, firing several stars at Pyrrha's Quilava, who responds by using Flame Wheel, with the fire acting as a shield to protect him from the energy stars.

Calvin, Erika, and Hau each perform a Z-Move with their respective starters, who are surrounded by glowing lights: Torracat's is red, Brionne is blue, and Dartrix is green. They unleash an Inferno Overdrive, a Hydro Vortex, and a Bloom Doom respectively.

The three starters charge at each other, their bodies leaving behind streaks of energy based on their colors, before they collide in the center of the battlefield.

Everyone covers their faces to block the smoke, before looking to see the center of the battlefield in shock. Standing amidst the smoke and fiery backdrop are three larger creatures. The others can't yet make out their features since they were silhouetted, but one looks like a muscular, bipedal tiger, One looks like mermaid-like seal with long hair, and the third appears to be a hooded avian.

We cut to Calvin, Erika and Hau looking out onto the ocean horizon from Aether Paradise, each standing alongside their Pokémon as the song winds down.

END OPENING

Leggo, Nihilego!

"Ah…" Erika sighed out, patting her stomach while walking down the hall, "Man, it feels good to have food in here…" she confessed with a hearty smile.

"After today, I could've eaten anything…" Paige remarked, laughing alongside her female rivals.

"So we're all heading to Ula'ula next, huh?" Trent guessed, folding his arms behind his head.

"I thought Paige and Pyrrha still had to battle Olivia though…" Hau said, curiously rubbing the back of his head in confusion.

"I guess they're gonna wait until they think they're better prepared," Calvin inferred in response, still holding his new egg in his hands, "Besides, it'll be fun to travel together!" he mentioned with a wide grin.

"You got that right, cuz!" Hau agreed, wrapping his right arm around his male cousin's shoulders.

"What's Ula'ula Island like anyway?" Erika wondered aloud.

"It'zzz a pretty big place, zzt!" Rotom buzzed as it floated out in front of her, pulling up a topographical map of the island upon its screen, "There are lotzzz of placezzz on the island, including the two tallest mountainzzz in Alola," it mentioned, "Mount Hokulani and Mount Lanakila!" it told them, showing off several images.

"Cool…!" Pyrrha squeaked excitedly.

"Looks like we'd be hitting up Maile City first…" Paige pointed out, "I hear they got great eats there," she added to her rivals.

"But more importantly, we gotta prep ourselves for the trials!" Erika declared firmly, "That's why we're on the island challenge after all!" she noted as she pumped her right fist.

"Oh, Erika…" Pyrrha sighed with a giggle.

"It's almost unbelievable how excited about these things you are now," Paige mentioned, causing the Ketchum girl to blink in surprise before sheepishly blushing as she rubbed the back of her head.

"Well, we better turn in for the day…" Hau decided with a long yawn.

"You guys go ahead," Calvin insisted to their surprise, "I was gonna head up to the conservation again just to walk around a little with this guy," he told them, looking down at his incubated egg.

"Dude, you don't have to keep walking around with it…" Trent pointed out.

"Oh, let him be…" Paige grumbled, elbowing the dark green-haired boy as he yelped. He glared at her while rubbing his hurting arm.

"Guess we'll see you later, cuz!" Hau called out in farewell, waving his right hand, "Good night!" he exclaimed.

"Night, guys!" the Ketchum boy responded, walking off towards the lift. His twin sister looked on at him with a smile. She was happy. Even though she lost, she found it in herself to be glad that her brother had come out on top in the tournament. A few moments later, he arrived at the conservation area. He took a deep breath and exhaled a content sigh.

'I'm still trying to process everything…' he admitted inwardly while looking down at his new Pokémon egg, 'All those battles we went through…' he recalled, thinking back to how Marowak had bested Plumeria's Crobat, how Araquanid defeated Milo's Oranguru, how Gumshoos overcame Hau's Raichu, and finally… how his newly-evolved Incineroar turned out to be stronger than Erika's Primarina. Even Trumbeak and Steenee had parts to play in the tournament, whether or not they were small. 'I hope Mom and Dad got to see us,' Calvin confessed to himself, 'They'd be really happy that we got this far already…' he noted through his thoughts. All of a sudden, he heard an odd sound nearby, causing him to perk up in confusion. He looked over to notice a glow not too far from him near the end of the conservation area. Blinking in confusion, he curiously trotted over to see what was going on. And then his eyes widened in disbelief as he gasped. Before him was a portal, which had glowing lines extending out from it in all directions like a spider web.

"Is that… the Ultra Wormhole?" he guessed as his eyes shook.

"We need to hurry!" Lusamine exclaimed as she, Faba and the scientists were hurriedly running down the halls to the lift, "If the Wormhole closes, who knows if it'll ever come again!" she mentioned desperately.

"Wait, there's already someone up there!" one of the scientists pointed while looking at security footage upon his tablet.

"What?!" Faba yelled angrily in surprise, snatching the device out of his subordinate's hands, "Who in the world could possibly be—?!" He stopped upon seeing that it was Calvin in the conservation area. "Oh…" he grumbled out, "It's that boy…" he muttered, handing the tablet over to Lusamine for her to see.

"Calvin…" she uttered in surprise. Back up in the conservation area, the Ketchum boy stared at the rift before him. He nervously took a step back, not knowing what to expect. And then something started to emerge from the wormhole. It was a creature that resembled a jellyfish. The bell of its head was semi-translucent and encircled with several white, star-shaped markings. The wavy rim of the bell flared outward and was bright blue. Its tentacles appeared gelatinous and gave it a vaguely humanoid shape. Several tentacles were meshed together, forming the appearance of cape or long hair, while four shorter tentacles resembled shorter hair and arms. Two long tentacles make up the legs of the human shape it had.

Calvin was amazed. Of all the Pokémon and other mysterious creatures he had seen throughout his lifetime, this was by far the most unique. Rather… the most extraterrestrial.

"A…Are you an Ultra Beast?" he stuttered out as a guess. The jellyfish-like creature floated around him, sounding like it was humming. It seemed to be focused on the egg in his hands.

"Neeeee…" it hissed out quietly as it slowly drew towards the Ketchum boy. For such a unique being, it seemed to behave in a very childlike manner. In fact…

'It… kinda looks like… Lillie…' he noted inwardly. The creature reached its front right tentacle out to touch the incubator in his hands. Reflexively, he pulled away.

"Don't touch that…!" he insisted, holding the egg close to his chest.

"Neeegohh…" the jellyfish-like creature growled out. It suddenly thrusted out its tentacles to strike Calvin in the chest, knocking him onto the floor in a yelp as the incubator went flying out of his hands. The creature then caught the incubator in its tentacles, holding it close.

"Ah, hey!" the Ketchum boy yelped in shock, "Give that back!" he shouted in demand. The creature just flew off, leaving him to stand back up, "Hey!" he yelled, running after it.

'What the heck does it want with the egg?!' he wondered inwardly, quickly pulling out one of the Poké Balls from his belt.

"Trumbeak, come on out!" he exclaimed, flinging it up into the air after enlarging it with the press of its center button. It popped open, with its light spilling out in midair and dissipating to reveal the Bugle Beak Pokémon.

"Truhh!" he squawked.

"Trumbeak, go after that thing!" Calvin called out, "It's got the egg!" he pointed out frantically. Blinking in surprise, the Bugle Beak Pokémon took notice of the jellyfish-like creature with the incubator in its grasp.

"Truh beek!" he chirped, nodding to his trainer before flying off after the fleeing creature. Meanwhile, Lusamine, Faba and the scientists had arrived via the lift.

"One UB's already out from the wormhole," one of the scientists told his colleagues.

"Catching it will be simple once we locate it," Faba assured confidently.

"Neeee…" a voice hissed out, catching their attentions as they looked over to see the jellyfish-like creature coming towards them.

"There it is!" Lusamine exclaimed with delight in her eyes.

"The parasitic Nihilego…" the other scientist noted, "It's even more incredible to see in real life…" he added, shaking out of shock. The branch chief readied the Beast Ball in his hand, enlarging it with a press of its center button.

"Now all that's left is capture it and-!"

"Hey!" Calvin's voice yelled, interjecting him as he and the others blinked in surprise. They took notice of Trumbeak soaring after the Ultra Beast, with the Ketchum boy running in behind it. "Give that back!" he demanded of it.

Lusamine blinked in surprise as she noticed the incubator in the Nihilego's grasp. It whipped around while still holding the incubator in its left tentacles, aiming its right ones towards the Bugle Beak Pokémon. A dark pink light formed on the tips of the tentacles before it fired off a beam of pale pink energy with bright white light surrounding it. Trumbeak had no time to get out of the way, being struck in a burst of smoke.

"TRUMBEAK!" Calvin screamed, seeing the Bugle Beak Pokémon fall out from the smoke as he was heading towards the water below. Moving quickly, the Ketchum boy jumped over to land atop the railing, leaping out to catch his teammate before splashing into the water with him.

"That was a Power Gem…!" one of the scientists gasped out.

"So it's intuitive enough to attack with type effectiveness…" Faba concluded, rubbing his beard curiously.

"Faba, hand me the Beast Ball," Lusamine suddenly insisted, getting his attention.

"M-Madam?" he stuttered in surprise.

"See to it that Calvin and his Trumbeak are okay," she advised of her subordinates, taking out an Ultra Ball and enlarging it in her right hand with a press of its center button, "I'll be the one to handle this," she stated firmly.

"But ma'am, what if—?!"

"Did I stutter?" the Aether Foundation president question threateningly towards the scientist who interjected her, causing both him and his fellow researcher to shudder with fright.

"Very well then…" Faba said with a sigh, gifting Lusamine with the Beast Ball to her left hand, "We'll be back to assist you shortly," he assured before heading off, while the scientists scurried after him.

"Huh…" Lusamine exhaled, reeling her right arm back before flinging her Ultra Ball forward in an instant. It popped open, and its light spilled onto the floor before coming into form and dissipating to reveal a Clefable.

"Kleh!" she squeaked in greeting, taking on a serious expression.

"Neeee…" Nihilego hissed as it came to a stop, floating just yards away from its new opponent.

"I'd suggest you put that egg down if you're wanting to battle properly…" Lusamine advised. The Ultra Beast didn't seem to be willing to comply. "Very well then…" the Aether Foundation president said, swinging her right hand out, "Cosmic Power!" she shouted.

"Fayyyy~!" the Fairy Pokémon sang as a blue, starry light shrouded her entire body, followed by a reddish aura flowing up it. Nihilego raised its right appendages and fired off streams of poisonous purple liquid from them, striking its target in a burst of white smoke. Clefable slid back out from it safely though, maintaining a confident look in her eyes.

'Venoshock, hm?' Lusamine noted inwardly as she crossed her arms over her chest, 'As Faba said, it's very perceptive…' she concluded through her thoughts, 'But then again, that's why I had Clefable use Cosmic Power in the first place,' she told herself.

"Psychic!" she commanded to her partner.

"Kleh!" she responded, making her eyes flash a light purple. The same luminosity shrouded Nihilego as it found itself struggling against its foe's telekinetic hold.

"Well done, Clefable," Lusamine complimented, "Now retrieve the egg as well," she instructed of the Fairy Pokémon.

"Fay bell!" she replied with a nod, telekinetically trying to pull the incubator out of the Ultra Beast's grasp. However, its grip was firm, much to the Fairy Pokémon's surprise as she gritted her teeth. All of a sudden, Nihilego managed to fire off another stream of purple liquid from the tip of its front right tentacle, striking her opponent as her psychic hold was lost.

"Mmm…" Lusamine growled, narrowing her eyes.

'And obviously, it's strong…' she noted to herself, putting her left hand onto her chin, 'But if it's like a Pokémon in the ways it uses its moves,' she continued through her thoughts, 'then it'll have a weakness in type,' she concluded as she grinned.

"Ergh…" Calvin groaned as he sat down on the floor. His clothes were dripping wet as he held his fainted Trumbeak in his arms. Faba and the scientists were gathered around him.

"Here, I'll help him out," one the scientists assured, taking the Bugle Beak Pokémon into his arms.

"Thank you…" the Ketchum boy said in gratitude.

"Hmm…" Faba growled impatiently, "We should be going over to help our esteemed president right away in capturing that Nihilego!" he stated firmly to the others.

"Nihilego?" Calvin repeated in confusion.

"Branch Chief, I don't think you'd wanna get yourself caught up in whatever she's-"

"SHUT UP!" Faba roared, interjecting his subordinate, "I know how capable the president is…" he pointed out, "but I'd rather be safe than sorry," he confessed, "especially with an Ultra Beast that she's facing!" he added emphatically.

"So it is an Ultra Beast…" Calvin realized, balling his hands into fists before standing up, "You've gotta let me go back and help Miss Lusamine!" he pleaded to the Aether Foundation members, causing them to all blink in surprise.

"Hey, hold on…" the scientist tending to Trumbeak responded, holding his hands up in a placating manner, "Your little buddy here couldn't even handle a hit from that Ultra Beast…" he pointed out in concern.

"He was just caught off guard," the Ketchum boy claimed as a reply, "And he's not my only Pokémon…" he mentioned, pulling out a Poké Ball and enlarging it with a press of its center button. Back where the battle was occurring, Clefable breathed heavily as Nihilego still floated out in front of her. Lusamine stared on in wonder.

'Thanks to Metronome, I've unveiled that it's weak to Water and Steel-type moves as well…' she noted inwardly, 'Even so, we haven't been able to fight at full power because it has that egg…' she added through her thoughts, 'Should I bring her out to retrieve it since it's her unborn child?' she wondered. All of a sudden, the Ultra Beast started to fly away.

"Kleh, kle fay!" the Fairy Pokémon cried out to her trainer, getting her attention as she was snapped away from her thoughts.

"Oh, shoot!" she yelped, grimacing to see that the Nihilego appeared to be planning to escape by going through the glass ceiling. But all of a sudden, a familiar Incineroar leapt up and grabbed it, yanking it back down towards the ground in a flurry of dirt and dust. "Ah!" Lusamine gasped in surprise before jogging over alongside her Clefable. As the dust cleared, it revealed the Heel Pokémon pinning the Ultra Beast against the grass. Calvin ran over and put his hands onto the railing.

"Nice job, Incineroar!" he called out in a complimentary tone to his partner, "Now get the egg, quick!" he insisted.

"Rawr!" she responded, reaching for the incubator… only to suddenly get blasted away by a pale pink beam striking her square in the chest, sending her flying until she landed upon the white pathway upon her back.

"Incineroar!" her trainer screamed, hurriedly rushing over to her.

"Sehh… raaahhh…" she groaned out as she sat up, growling angrily as she rubbed her head. She and Calvin looked to see Nihilego floated towards them, still having the incubator in its grasp.

'We gotta figure out a way to get the egg without getting too rough…' the Ketchum boy realized, clenching his fists tightly.

"Calvin!" Lusamine's voice cried out, catching his attention as he turned to see her jogging over with her Clefable, "Have your Incineroar grab the egg on my move!" she instructed to him as he blinked in surprise, "Clefable, Psychic!" she commanded.

"Kleh!" the Fairy Pokémon exclaimed, making her eyes shine a light purple as the same luminosity surrounded Nihilego, keeping it in place as it trembled. Calvin gasped upon realizing that it was the very opening he and Incineroar needed.

"Go, Incineroar!" he called out, pointing towards the Ultra Beast.

"ROWWWRRR!" the Heel Pokémon bellowed, lunging upwards. As she approached Nihilego, she grabbed the incubator and pulled on it with all her might. Unfortunately, her pull was so strong… that it actually broke the incubator open!

"Ah!" Calvin gasped in fright, seeing the egg start to plummet towards the ground. It seemed like no one would be able to get to it in time… at least until a figure sped in and caught it. That figure turned out to be Paige's Combusken.

"Kenn!" she chirped, cradling the egg in her arms as Calvin sighed in relief. Meanwhile, Lusamine looked back and blinked in surprise to see Paige there alongside Erika, Hau, Pyrrha, Trent, Wicke, and Rotom.

"What the heck is that thing?" the Ketchum girl wondered as she stared up at Nihilego. Her Pokédex attempted to pull up an image of the Ultra Beast upon its screen… only for a trio of question marks to appear instead.

"I've got no data, zzt!" it buzzed out of disbelief.

"So that's an Ultra Beast…" Trent realized with shaking eyes.

"Miss Lusamine, you should get back!" Hau insisted to the Aether Foundation president, getting her attention, "That thing… it isn't right!" he pointed out worriedly. A look of irritation crossed her face for a moment before she looked back at Nihilego.

"You poor creature…" she uttered out, seeing it shudder a little. It appeared to be looking at the pieces of the incubator below before it turned its focus onto Calvin.

"Huh?" he uttered in surprise, seeing it suddenly zoomed down towards him, causing him to develop a panicked look upon his face.

'Why's it coming after me now?!' he wondered inwardly, crossing his arms over his face to brace himself. However…

"Aqua Jet!" his twin sister's voice yelled. Without warning, her Primarina slammed into the Ultra Beast while immersed in a torrent of water, sending it flying back. It corrected its balance though, still floating overhead.

"Pree mah!" the Soloist Pokémon yipped angrily at her new foe.

"You're not touching my brother!" Erika shouted in declaration.

"Erika…" Calvin uttered out, shocked at how his twin sister had come to his defense. But he smiled. "Incineroar, you still good to go?" he asked of the Heel Pokémon, getting her attention.

"Rawr!" she responded, flashing her trainer a thumbs up.

"Let's give this thing the what-for!" Trent insisted while pulling out a Great Ball from his belt.

"Couldn't have said it any better myself…" Paige remarked as she readied a Poké Ball she had.

"Let's do this, everybody!" Hau cried out while reeling his arm back, having his own spherical container in his right hand. All three of them tossed their respective Poké Balls up, letting them pop as their lights spilled out in midair. The one from Trent's formed in midair, dissipating to reveal a Skarmory. Paige's formed into Mudbray, while Hau's was revealed to be his Raichu.

"Skaaaaahhhh!" the Armor Bird Pokémon screeched loudly.

"Whoa, a Skarmory!" Erika yelped as she blinked rapidly, "I didn't know you had one of those, Trent…" she admitted.

"Let's just say I've been getting myself ready over the past few months…" he remarked in response. Meanwhile, Rotom pulled up an image of the Armor Bird Pokémon upon its screen.

"Skarmory, the Armor Bird Pokémon," it began, "His metal body is sturdy, but it does rust rather easily. So on rainy days, this Pokémon prefers to stay put in his nest. His body is draped in steel armor. It looks heavy, but he can fly at speeds of up to one hundred and eighty-five miles an hour!" it explained thoroughly.

"Skaaaahhh!" Skarmory screeched again while glaring at Nihilego. The other Pokémon the Ultra Beast was being pitted against also glared at it.

"Neeeee…" it hissed out.

"Madam President, are you alright?" Wicke asked as she approached her superior.

"Yes I'm fine, Wicke," she replied, "I take it that you're the one who called these children to come here?" she guessed, causing the assistant to nod with shame in her eyes.

"I was concerned for your safety…" she admitted, lowering her head a little.

"Huh…" the Aether Foundation president sighed, "It's fine," she assured, "At least this way, we'll able to better capture the Nihilego," she pointed out.

"All right, let's stop this thing!" Hau cried out in declaration.

"Yeah," Trent agreed, "Skarmory, Steel Wing!" he commanded with a swing of his right arm. Making his wings shine in a silvery-white light, the Armor Bird Pokémon dove down towards the Ultra Beast. He swiped at it a few times, but it stubbornly evaded him as it floated back.

"Hold it in place with Psychic!" Hau quickly instructed.

"Ryy!" his Raichu responded, making his eyes flash a light purple. The same luminosity outlined Nihilego's body at the moment, psychically holding it in place as it struggled to fight against it.

"Nice thinking, Hau," Trent complimented, making the ponytailed boy chuckle, "Now Steel Wing!" he ordered to his teammate. Skarmory kept his wings glowing in a silvery white light as he struck the Ultra Beast with his left one, sending it flying back.

"Mudbray, High Horsepower!" Paige commanded as she pumped out her right fist.

"Brrraaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy!" the Donkey Pokémon neighed, cloaking his body in an orange aura while standing on his hind legs for a moment. He then galloped forward, whipping around and slamming both of his hind legs into Nihilego, causing it to crash fiercely into the nearby railing.

"Whoa!" Erika yelped in shock, blinking rapidly. As the dust settled though, it revealed the Ultra Beast floating back up into the air. It wiggled its body in a childlike manner, swaying as if it didn't have a care in the world.

"Did it even feel that?" Trent wondered aloud as he blinked rapidly.

"Pretty sure it's just bluffing…" Paige confidently said.

"Yeah, I think so, too…" Erika agreed as she nodded. From afar, Lusamine looked on curiously.

'So it seems to be weakened by Water, Psychic, Steel… and Ground-type attacks…' she listed in remembrance through her thoughts, 'In short, it must a Rock-and-Poison-type,' she concluded inwardly, 'Though I do still have to wonder…' she continued, 'did it open the Ultra Wormhole… or did something else?' she asked herself.

"Primarina, Sparkling Aria!" Erika commanded, swinging her left arm out.

"Pree!" the Soloist Pokémon yipped, standing up on her tail fins. The pearls tying her hair together came undone. "Maaaaahhhh~!" she sang beautifully, causing an orb of shining blue water to form just above her mouth. It then popped apart into several shining streaks that all converged and struck Nihilego fiercely.

"Tsss…!" it hissed in agony as it flew out from the resulting smoke afterwards. It aimed its tentacles forward and shot off streams of poisonous purple liquid towards its foes. Two of them struck Raichu and Mudbray as they let out yelps of agony, while a third was about to hit Primarina. She braced herself for the attack's impact as she shut her eyes, but it never came. She looked ahead to see that Skarmory had flown out in front of her, taking the attack as steam wafted off from his body. But he didn't seem bothered.

"That wazzz a Venoshock, zzt!" Rotom buzzed in exclamation.

"And since Skarmory's part Steel-type, he doesn't have to worry about taking attacks like that," Erika realized as Trent trotted up beside her, "Thanks," she said in gratitude.

"No problem," the dark green-haired boy replied with a nod, "But we need to figure out a way to take this thing down quickly…" he pointed out in concern, glancing back to see that Raichu and Mudbray were grimacing in pain from taking the attack.

"Yeah, it's scary how strong it is…" Paige chimed in while helping the Donkey Pokémon back onto his feet.

"I've got some Potions if you guys need them!" Pyrrha called out as she hurried over.

"Miss President, shouldn't you help them?" Wicke asked of Lusamine, who remained deep in her thoughts.

"Although I do wish to capture the Nihilego…" she began quietly, catching the assistant by surprise as she blinked, "doing so won't get us to our true goal of entering the Ultra Space," she admitted in frustration, folding her arms underneath her chest. She then aimed her Ultra Ball out towards her Clefable. "Thank you for your help, Clefable," she said in gratitude, returning her to the spherical container in a beam of red light.

"Let's hit it together, Erika!" Calvin yelled to his twin sister, getting her attention.

"Yeah!" she agreed, "Primarina, Aqua Jet!" she ordered.

"Incineroar, Darkest Lariat!" her brother commanded. The Soloist Pokémon engulfed herself within another torrent of water, rocketing out towards Nihilego. Meanwhile, Incineroar had both of her hands enflame with dark red fire, spinning to its target. The Ultra Beast shot out towards them with its head at the ready. They all collided fiercely as sparks flew about upon their impact. After but a few moments, the two of them blew their jellyfish-like foe back. It then started to fly off, heading towards the end of the conservation area.

"Hey, where's it going now?" Erika wondered aloud.

"Come on!" Calvin yelled, running off quickly. His twin sister quickly followed along with Incineroar and Primarina. The Ultra Beast was heading towards the Ultra Wormhole it had come out of. It narrowly found itself evading the stream of fire shot its way from the Heel Pokémon's flaming belt, floating down towards the floor. It seemed to notice both her and Primarina in front of it, with Calvin and Erika standing behind them.

"Is it… trying to leave?" the latter of the two Ketchum twins guessed. Her brother merely growled, clenching his fists still. Nihilego had tried to take his egg, not to mention that it hurt Trumbeak.

"Neeeee…" the Ultra Beast hissed out softly, floating slowly back towards the rift behind it.

"Sehh rawrr!" Incineroar roared angrily.

"No, wait," her trainer instructed, much to her surprise as she glanced back at him. He had noticed that the rift had gotten incredibly smaller since Nihilego had come out of it. If the Ultra Wormhole were to disappear, the Ultra Beast would have no way back home.

"Neee…" it hissed one last time, disappearing into the rift before it vanished itself in a small flash of light.

"It's… gone?" Erika uttered out, completely confused.

"Preemahh…" Primarina yipped in surprise.

"Serrrr…" Incineroar growled out of frustration, putting her hands onto her hips. Meanwhile, the others ventured over.

"Where'd it go?" Trent immediately asked.

"I believe it went back through the Ultra Wormhole," Lusamine answered, getting his attention along with those of the other trial-goers, "In which case, I can only assume that it didn't have much time left before the wormhole disappeared completely," she explained.

"Yes, it appeared to be unstable…" Wicke noted with a nod.

"Um…" Pyrrha chimed in, catching their attentions as they glanced over to see her raise her left hand, "what's an Ultra Wormhole?" she asked, tilting her head to the side.

"And was that thing even a Pokémon?" Paige wondered aloud while folding her arms behind her head.

"It used moves like one…" Trent pointed out.

"Hey, one at a time, you guys…" Calvin insisted, concerned that the Aether Foundation members would suddenly be bombarded with questions.

"I think we know a couple things about what that was," Erika chimed in.

"I can add some explanationzzz!" Rotom assured as it floated over. After a few minutes, everything had been explained to everyone.

"So that portal was called the Ultra Wormhole… which leads to where the Ultra Beasts are?" Pyrrha guessed upon digesting the information, getting a nod from Erika in response.

"And that thing we fought was an Ultra Beast…" Trent realized, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Indeed," Lusamine chimed in as she stepped forward.

"Miss Lusamine?" Erika uttered out.

"More specifically, that Ultra Beast is known as Nihilego, the first recorded in our research," she told the trial-goers.

"Nihilego…" Calvin repeated. The aura it gave off felt very sinister and… possessive.

"What'd it want with Cal's egg?" Hau asked, putting his hands onto his hips.

"I can't say for sure…" the Aether Foundation president admitted, "but I assume it must've understood how precious it was to Calvin and decided to take it for itself," she inferred cleverly.

"Yeah, speaking of which…" the Ketchum boy began, only to be interjected as Combusken walked over to hand him the egg, "Wow, thank you!" he exclaimed with gratitude.

"Kenn!" the Young Fowl Pokémon squawked in response with a happy nod.

"It's a shame that we couldn't find a way to quell Nihilego completely," Lusamine noted sadly, "Perhaps we could've been able to understand it more…" she added, much to Erika's surprise as she blinked.

"Wait…" she said, getting the attention of the Aether Foundation president, "are you researching the Ultra Beasts, too?" she inquired curiously. Lusamine giggled.

"But of course, Erika!" she responded, "I told you, my goal is to be like a mother to all poor and helpless Pokémon," she mentioned.

"So that means those Ultra Beasts are Pokémon…" Trent concluded.

"That's correct, Trent," the Aether Foundation president replied with a nod, "Our next goal will be to conserve the Ultra Beasts and give them a fine place to live on Aether Paradise," she explained.

"Sounds like a pretty lofty goal…" Pyrrha admitted in concern, "Especially with things like that Nihilego…" she added.

"Sometimes you have to take risks, Pyrrha," Lusamine pointed out, "And you don't need to worry about me," she assured additionally, "I'm much stronger than I look for a woman my age," she noted.

"What does age have to do with anything?" Erika wondered curiously in a whisper to Pyrrha.

"I don't think it really matters…" her friend responded quietly.

"Huh…" Hau sighed with relief, "Well, I'm glad that's all over…" he admitted, rubbing the back of his head.

"Yeah…" Calvin agreed, holding his egg close, "Thanks for coming, you guys," he said in gratitude, bowing to his fellow trial-goers.

"Don't mention it, dude," Paige responded with a chuckle.

"Madam President!" Faba's voice cried out, catching their attentions as they saw the branch chief jog over with the two scientists behind him, "We saw that the readings of the Ultra Wormhole have vanished," he pointed out as he approached and came to a stop, "I take it you've already captured the Nihilego?" he guessed confidently.

"It escaped through the wormhole," the Aether Foundation president replied.

"WHHHAAAAAAAAAAATTTTT?!" Faba exclaimed in disbelief with widened eyes.

"Hey, kid," one of the scientists said, getting Calvin's attention as he looked to see his Trumbeak in the man's arms, "This guy's all good now," he assured, handing him over.

"Thanks!" the Ketchum boy exclaimed in reply, taking the Bugle Beak Pokémon into his left arm while holding the egg in his right, "You okay, Trumbeak?" he asked of his teammate.

"Trummm…" he squawked with shame in his tone. Being defeated was one thing. But by just a single move? That hurt his spirit.

"Trumbeak…" his trainer uttered worriedly.

"Oh, I should get you a new incubator for the egg!" Wicke realized before hurrying off.

"Sorry that I almost let it get hurt, Miss Lusamine…" Calvin apologized, catching the attention of the Aether Foundation president.

"Don't worry about it, Calvin," she reassured to him, "Just be glad it's safe," she advised, putting a hand onto his shoulder, "Now I wouldn't want to keep any of you from your bedrest before your journey tomorrow," she pointed out to the trial-goers, "So why don't get some sleep now?" she requested in a motherly fashion.

"Sure thing!" Erika responded with a nod, "Let's get out of her hair, guys!" she insisted before jogging off.

"Wait for us, Eri!" Hau called out, hurrying after her with Trent and Paige to follow.

"Good night, Miss Lusamine," Calvin said in farewell with a bow, heading off after his fellow trial-goers with Pyrrha. All six of them returned their Pokémon to their respective Poké Balls before they departed downwards via the lift. Once they left… the Aether Foundation president's expression shifted into a frown.

"The Nihilego wasn't responsible for the Ultra Wormhole that opened up," she told her subordinates, "It was likely just a coincidence that the wormhole opened here of all places," she added, putting her left hand onto her hip.

"B-But even so…" Faba stammered out, "To just abandon the opportunity to capture an Ultra Beast is profoundly—!"

"Profoundly what, Faba?" Lusamine questioned, shooting the branch chief the stink eye as he grimaced, "Huh…" she sighed out, "It seems I'll have to find that Cosmog once again…" she realized, "Fortunately, I think I know where she'll be…" she added with a grin.

There was a knock at the door of the Ketchum vacation home the next morning.

"Coming!" Leslie's voice yelled from inside, twisting the knob to pull open the door. Once she looked to see who was there, she smiled with a laugh.

"What's up, Leslie?" Korra Sato greeted, standing alongside Asami and Rikido upon the front porch.

"Korra!" Ash called out in greeting upon noticing who was there, "Come on in!" he insisted with a wave. The Sato family entered the household, with the Sugar Rush Quirk user immediately picking up a certain scent wafting about the air.

"You guys haven't had breakfast yet, huh?" he guessed with an arched eyebrow.

"Just about to," Leslie replied, looking back to see her mother getting plates together in the kitchen, "You're welcome to eat with us!" she pointed out.

"Terrific!" the Avatar chimed in, patting at her stomach, "'Cause I'm starved for something!" she confessed heartily.

"You just didn't eat because you wanted Mirajane's cooking…" her wife noted with crossed arms and a blank look on her face.

"C-Come on, Asami…" Korra pleaded with a stutter, chuckling sheepishly as she rubbed the back of her head. Moments later, the two families were gathered at the kitchen table, where an array of breakfast food had been laid out. Pancakes, sausage, fruit and muffins were strewn about, along with butter and syrup.

"Thanks for the food!" Leslie and Rikido exclaimed, going ahead to each take three pancakes onto their plates.

"So you've been checking in on everyone who went on the mission?" Mirajane inquired to Korra and Asami.

"Yeah," the latter responded with a nod, "Korra thought it'd be best to make sure no one was feeling… well… scarred from the experience," she told the two sitting across from her and her wife.

"Looks like Les took things well though," the Avatar pointed out as she bit down on a piece of sausage.

"Well, it was kinda scary being trapped in that prison… and meeting real dragons…" she listed off in remembrance while having a mouthful of syrup-covered pancake pieces in her mouth, "But yeah, it worked out in the end!" she noted happily.

"Leslie, don't talk with your mouth full please…" her mother insisted, much to her embarrassment as she turned away with a blush across her cheeks.

"So now that the stone's in our possession," Ash began while having a sleeping Pikachu on his lap, changing the subject slightly, "what's the next move?" he wondered aloud.

"Good question…" Korra replied as she swallowed her sausage, "I've heard that Ben's thinking about going on a frontal assault against Kronos…" she mentioned, "but he's worried that with a guys like Acnologia, Eon, and Salem on the prowl, it won't be easy," she pointed out.

"We can hear that…" Mirajane reluctantly agreed.

"Mira, it's okay," Ash assured, placing his hand onto hers to calm her nerves, "A frontal attack to try and get the other three stones might not be the easiest solution," he pointed out to his friends, "After all, we didn't even know Salem had the Reality Stone all this time when we fought against her forces in Atlas," he added in remembrance.

"Guess you're right…" Korra concurred, "We already made big strides in taking down a lot of Kronos' operations in a couple worlds, especially that one where we nabbed that Muzan guy," she mentioned.

"You know, maybe we should talk about something aside from all this Omni Force work," Mirajane suggested to the others.

"Uh, well… we got other increase on stocks for Future Industries," Asami pointed out.

"That's great!" Ash exclaimed in a complimentary tone. As they continued to talk, both Rikido and Leslie were still chewing on their pancakes.

"So your little brother and sister were in a tournament yesterday?" the former inquired after hearing a story from the latter.

"Mm-hmm," she inquired, swallowing the food in her mouth, "Calvin ended up winning against Erika in the finals and got himself a Pokémon Egg as a grand prize," she told him.

"Wow, that's awesome!" he complimented, "You must be really proud of him," he pointed out.

"I'm proud of both of them," Leslie corrected, "Those two used to be so stubborn back in the day…" she recalled, glancing up at the ceiling in thought, "So it's really great to see how far they've come…" she noted with a giggle.

"And it's a good thing we remembered to record the whole thing…" Mirajane chimed in.

"Yeah, it'll be great to see the highlights!" her eldest daughter exclaimed, "I really like it when the announcers get super into the battles!" she mentioned with a cheeky giggle, "So how're things going on your end, Riki?" she asked the Sugar Rush Quirk user sitting across from her, "Hero work going okay?" she guessed.

"Yeah, it's a bit different with how our world works today…" he admitted in response as he swallowed his own food that he'd been chewing on, "but we're doing just fine!" he assured. He then blinked as he remembered something. "Hey, did you hear the news yet?" he inquired to her. She blinked.

"What news?" she asked as she sipped on her milk. The Sugar Rush Quirk user got up from his seat and walked over to her. He leaned in and whispered into her right ear. After a moment, her eyes widened. She actually spat up her milk onto her plate and coughed. "WHAT?!" she yelped loudly out of shock, causing Pikachu to be startled awake as his eyes jolted open, "RAYA AND RAE GOT ENGAGED?!" she echoed on in question. Both of her parents blinked in surprise upon overhearing, turning to Korra and Asami.

"Oh yeah, that was the other good news we were gonna tell you…" the Avatar noted with a chuckle, while her wife let out a deep sigh.

"Can't believe they had the nerve not to tell me themselves…" Leslie grumbled while finishing her milk.

"You were away when they announced it…" Rikido pointed out as a retort.

"Hmmm…" the white-haired girl hummed dejectedly.

"Pikahh...?" Pikachu squeaked in confusion, rubbing his tired eyes from being so abruptly awoken.

"Well, I guess I know what we're planning for next!" Mirajane decided as she clapped her hands together. Everyone at the table laughed, excited for what would lie ahead in the future.

Back on Aether Paradise around noon, the docked ferry was letting its passengers board at the artificial island's dockyard. Calvin, Erika and Hau were getting ready to embark the vessel, having packed their things prior. The former of the trio had his egg in a brand new incubator, holding it closely in his arms.

"Where are Pyrrha and the others?" the ponytailed boy wondered curiously as he glanced around.

"Well, Pyrrha and Paige still need to head back to Akala to beat Olivia…" Erika pointed out in response with her hands at her hips.

"And Trent mentioned that he wanted to get a head start on the Ula'ula trials," Wicke's voice chimed in, catching their attentions as they looked to see her approach, "so he took off on an earlier ferry," she told them.

"Oh, Miss Wicke!" Calvin exclaimed, "Thanks again for the new incubator," he said in gratitude, bowing to her.

"Oh, it's no problem at all," she assured with a wave of her hand.

"Are you here to send us off?" Erika guessed as Rotom floated beside her.

"Mm-hmm," the Aether Foundation assistant replied with a nod, "The president is sorry she couldn't come by herself…" she noted to them as she reached back to grab something, "but after last night's incident, she's been eager to conduct more research and prepare the island to house Ultra Beasts," she explained.

"Hmm…" Calvin hummed in thought, wondering if that was such a good idea.

"Anyways, here you are!" Wicke exclaimed, handing the trio of trial-goers a set of white paper bags. Hau opened his and gasped. Inside was a large malasada.

"Whoa! Big Malasadas!" he yelled gleefully with sparkling eyes.

"As usual, your stomach really has an appetite for things like this…" Erika pointed out as a drop of sweat rolled down her head.

"Thanks again, Miss Wicke," Calvin said in gratitude. As he and the others boarded the ship, they turned back to see more of the Aether Foundation employees, Milo and Selene included, waving goodbye to them. They waved back, heading towards the seating area afterwards.

"Man, what a time we had there…" Hau breathed at as he found a trio of empty seats for he and his cousins to sit down in, "We had that amazing tournament, got to see an Ultra Wormhole and an Ultra Beast, and met tons of fun people!" he listed off happily.

"And now we get to go back on our island challenge again," Erika added, "I wonder what Ula'ula's like…" she said curiously.

"Well, we'll all be ready for it," her brother assured confidently with a smile.

"So in the meantime, let's chow down!" their ponytailed cousin insisted, pulling out his malasada and taking a big bite, "So good~!" he muffled out with delight.

"Oh, Hau…" Erika sighed with a smile. Calvin went ahead and started eating his doughy treat, contently enjoying it. His twin sister decided that she didn't want to be left out after a moment, opening her bag to grab hers. But at that moment, she noticed a strand of her hair falling in front of her face. She grabbed at it and stared for a moment, looking back at her pigtailed hair, which had grown a little.

'Should I get it cut next time?' she asked herself curiously. She decided not to press the issue onto herself too much though, going ahead and eating her malasada contently. As the trio of trial-goers gorged on their food, the ship left the port, sailing off towards its destination. Elsewhere on Aether Paradise, Lusamine was sitting at her desk within her mansion while on the phone.

"I'm sure she'll be at the Aether House at some point…" she noted to whomever was on the other end of the line, "But of course, you may scour about the island to find her if necessary," she mentioned.

"Heh!" the person she was talking to laughed, "If it means getting to beat down some upstart trial-goer brats, then I'm all for it," he declared over the line, "You've got yourself a deal, Madam Prez," he assured.

"Wonderful, Guzma," Lusamine replied, ending the call with the press of the icon on her phone. She grinned.

'I'll have you and Cosmog back here soon… Lillie…' she inwardly declared.

Opens with a messy-haired Erika rising up groggily from her bed. She lets out a long, deep yawn and rubs her eyes before getting up. After heading over to the bathroom, she looks in the mirror to see her unkempt appearance. While once she wouldn't care about such things, this new look suddenly horrifies her. She quickly grabs a hairbrush and starts getting her hair straightened out.

Brionne wanders into the bathroom to see her trainer struggling to undo the locks in her hair, lowering her head in defeat. The Pop Star Pokémon calls over her teammates, catching Erika's attention as she glances back to see her Pokémon wander in curiously. She smiles softly at them as they offer their help to her.

We cut to Brionne using her colorful water balloons to wet her trainer's hair, followed by Fomantis carefully cutting away any misaligned locks. As the hair is cut, Sandygast below to collect the pieces in order to prevent there from being a mess. After that, Lycanroc helps comb Erika's hair as it flows down, followed by Drifblim using Gust with the help of Magby's heat to dry her hair.

As all this happens, Erika reflects on her journey, remembering her change from a stubborn and whiny girl into an admirable island challenger. She looks back in the mirror and smiles, quickly tying her hair up into a pair of braided pigtails. She puts on her hat and grabs her bag, smiling as she's excited to start the day, with her team following her out of the room.

A while passes before she meets up with her twin brother and their rivals. Pyrrha smiles upon seeing Erika, while Trent blushes a little and looks away cutely. Erika cracks a toothy grin, wondering where the day will take her and her many friends…

The song ends with the six trial-goers venturing off into the distance…
