(Linka and Rei are at the Obsidian Feildlands camp)
Rei: This is our base camp. It's where we start and finish our surveys. Now remember what you've got to do. You've been tasked with catching three species of Pokémon: Bidoof, Starly, and Shinx!
Linka: That shouldn't be too hard.
Rei: I'm curious to see if the professor's stories about you are really true. (Laventon walks up to them)
Laventon: Ah, well, you see... Captain Cyllene got hold of me after you left... She impressed upon me that I bear full responsibility for whatever happens to "our sudden guest."
Rei: She doesn't let up. How exactly are you supposed to help out here, Professor?
Laventon: To be honest, my dear boy, I don't intend to lift a finger! Linka's talents are the real deal. She'll pass with flying colors—you'll see! (Linka smiles.)
Rei: So, in other words, I'm still the one bearing the responsibility here? Not my ideal state of affairs.
(Linka chuckles)
Rei: Let's just get started. You'll be more than equal to this, Linka!
(Linka and Rei walk up the path of the slope)
Linka: (Amazed.) Wow! It's beautiful!
Rei: This is Aspiration Hill.
(Linka took a look at Obsidian Fieldlands it was a landscaped filled with plains, mountains, rivers, and forests.)
Linka: The woods back in my world is nothing compared to this! We have a national park at my state, but this this is the first time I've seen something like one.
(They then see a tan rodent with buckteeth, red nose, and tufts on its chin and tail.
Rei: Look—a Bidoof! We're finding the Pokémon you need already! You may be some sort of prodigy, but just in case, here's what Captain Cyllene taught me... Bidoof is a mellow Pokémon, which means it doesn't tend to run away when you approach. Aim carefully, let your Poké Ball fly, and you ought to be all right.
Linka: O.K. (She walk up to Bidoof) Hey buddy, you want to be my friend?
Bidoof: Uhh...sure.
Linka: (Pulls out empty pokeball) Alrightie then, go pokeball! (Throws ball at Bidoof, capturing the pokemon.) I did it!
Rei: One Bidoof—caught! Now, on we march!
(They then find a grey bird with a darker grey on its head and wings, a lighter grey body, and a white head)
Rei: Now, Starly here—it's the type to run at the drop of a hat. (They see a patch of tall grass) But not to worry! Crouch down in the grass, and it won't spot you. That's how you can get close!
Linka: Should be no problem. (Walks and crouches into the tall grass) *Whispers* I'm like a tiger in a jungle. Rawl! (Pulls out empty pokeball) O.K. just be quiet and...(Stands up)
(But when she stands up...)
Starly: (Sees Linka) *Gasp!* A HUMAN! (flies away)
Linka: Dang it.
Rei: That's a shame... The Starly got away from you, eh? They're quite skittish. It's hard to catch one once it's spotted you. (Another Starly walks by) Look, another Starly! You'll need to crouch so it doesn't notice you. Crouching makes it harder for wild Pokémon to notice you, even out in the open!
Linka:(walks back into the tall grass but remains crouching this time) O.K. Second try (aims)
Starly: *yarn* I'm bored.
Linka: Quietly and...toss! (Throws pokeball at Satrly capturing the bird.) Yes!
Rei: And that's Starly caught, too! I admit, I'm impressed so far.
Linka: Two down, one to go!
(They walk down the hill some.)
Rei: I forgot to share another smidgen of wisdom...How to throw your partner's Poké Ball!
Linka: My partner's Pokeball?
Rei: To quote Captain Cyllene's wise teachings... once you've got a Pokémon ready, try aiming for certain rocks—or trees like this one. Your Pokémon will hunt for Berries and things, and it'll bring back whatever it finds!
Linka: Let me try. Quilli go! (Sends out Quilli) Bash that tree over there.
(Quilli bashes the tree causing berries to drop. Then goes back to her pokeball)
Linka: (gathers berries) Wow! Thanks!
Rei: Now it's time for your partners to shine. We've reached your final hurdle: catching a Shinx.
(They walk down the some more)
Rei: There it is. Shinx.
(They see a blue lynx with round ears with four pointed stars on each, yellow eyes, a black rear end, and a long tail with a four-pointed star on the end.)
Rei: Shinx has an aggressive disposition... Did you know that already?
Linka: It has what?
Rei: Don't worry about it! Just focus on the Pokémon around you—you'll figure it out quick enough. Once aggressive Pokémon get wound up, they'll knock away any balls you throw.
Linka: Then how am I supposed to catch it?
Rei: But not to worry! I'll teach you the trick to catching them. You draw them into battle!
Linka: Battle?
Rei: Once it's caught up in the heat of battle, you can throw a Poké Ball to try and catch it! You've got a few Pokémon of your own to use now, don't you?
Linka: Of course.
Rei: Take one of their Poké Balls and throw it at a wild Pokémon you want to battle!
Linka: I'm going with Quilli.
Rei: Use what you learned in your battle with Volo! Get out there, and make your last catch!
Linka: Got it.
(Linka walks up to Shinx and the pokemon sees her.)
Shinx: You! This is my home! Go away!
Linka: Sorry to do this to you! (Sends out Quilli) Go Quilli!
Shinx: So you want a fight huh? Fine then.
Linka: Quilli use Quick Attack!
(Quilli charges at Shinx with speed, but the attack misses. Shinx uses Quick Attack too, but it hits.)
Quilli: Ow. That hurts. *felt a sneeze coming.* Ah-Ahoo! (Sneeses fire)
Linka: What just happened?
Rei: Your pokemon just learned a new move! If I'm not mistaken, that move was Ember!
Linka: Cool! Let's give it a go! Quilli use Ember!
(Quilli shoots small balls of fire at Shinx)
Shinx: Yow! Why you- (Feels fire coursing through its body)
Rei: Whoa! You've got that Shinx burned! Status Conditions, like burns make the pokemon even easier to catch!
Linka: Nice!
(Shinx hits Quilli with another Quick Attack but takes damage from the burn.)
Linka: I think that should do it. (Pulls out an empty pokeball.) Pokeball go! (Tosses pokeball at Shinix and captures the pokemon)
Rei: (Speechless for a moment.) Wait—did you really...? You really did! You did it! That's three species of Pokémon—caught! You really are some kind of prodigy!
Linka: Oh! Yeah! Who's the man? I'm the man!
Rei: You must've given Professor Laventon the shock of his life. First you fall from the sky, then you go and catch all of our escaped Pokémon, one after another! I honestly didn't believe the professor's story until I saw you in action for myself. And here you are with three Pokémon caught! You've completed your trial!
(Linka and Rei head back to the camp.)
Laventon: Oho! I said you'd pass the trial with flying colors, and it seems you went and did just that! (Pulls out a camera) Congratulations, Linka! You've taken your first step toward seeking out every Pokémon! This calls for a commemorative photograph.
(Linka smiles as her photo is taken)
Rei: I've got to admit, it's true—you've got real talent for this!
Laventon: Now then, we'd best report to Captain Cyllene. Time to head back to Jubilife Village, eh?
(The group head back to the village.)
Rei: Eventually, you should be able to have Pokémon you've caught go live in the village pastures. The most Pokémon a person can have with them while out exploring is six, apparently... Not that we have anyone who can manage that!
Linka: Neato, Though I would try to use Bucky, Wings, and Star.
Laventon: Come now, you two—let's not dillydally! Captain Cyllene awaits our report at headquarters.
Rei: I can't wait to see the captain's reaction.
Linka: Me too.
(Linka and Rei enters the building, Rei remains in the hall while Linka walks into Cyllene's office.)
Cyllene: It seems we won't have to leave you to die, after all. Congratulations. You've passed your trial. You can hold onto that satchel. I must admit you've impressed me.
Linka: To be honest, it was kinda fun!
Cyllene: I set a high hurdle to judge whether a stranger like yourself could be worthy, but you cleared it. (Hands Linka a navy-blue uniform with sandals, scarf, and a headdress.) This is yours— the official uniform of the Survey Corps. Get changed in the room you used last night. Then you're to report at once to the third floor.
Linka: Wow! Awesome!
Cyllene: Present yourself in uniform to our commander. This is your first official order from your captain!
Linka: *Salutes* Yes ma'am!
(As Linka walks out of the Galaxy Corps, she wonders about her brothers)
Linka: *in her thoughts* Don't worry guys, I'll find you.
(Linka enters her house walks to the mirror)
Linka: Alright! Time to make Arceus proud! (She starts taking off her orange shirt, Demin skirt and red shoes and starts putting on her new uniform.)
Here's the Pokemon caught.
Quilli - Cyndaquill, Bucky - Bidoof, Wings - Starly, Star - Shinx.
The next chapter will just be Linka looking around the village, after that this is where things start to get fun!
